- One year ago, Nintendo unveiled its riskiest gamble yet to revitalize its console business. The Switch, a handheld tablet-console hybrid, could have been another gimmicky device, at a time when a big hardware flop would have translated to a unmitigated disaster. Instead, after nine months on the market, the Switch has been a huge success story, and Nintendo is once again at the forefront of the gaming conversation. Here’s how the company pulled it off.

Nintendo has been created greate games too. Zeldas, Marios, Fire emblems, Metroids, Pokemons, Kirbys, Splatoons and much more. Especially games what nintendo is created by this year. Super mario odyssey, the legend of zelda breath of the wild, Mario kart 8, Splatoon 2 and mario + rabbits kingdom battle. It has been sad to look how poorly nintendo has gone down, down and down after wii u was released. Even nintendo was created greate games by wii u, like super mario 3d world, the legend of zelda wind waker hd, super smash bros for wii u, bayonetta 2 and much more but wii u:s sales figures do not rise. It good that nintendo has been created now a great console and great games for it. Sony create greate games too but nintendo has earned this glory whit its greate console and greate games. Nintendo has been earned a lot of popularity but im sure for it thats Sony get it too soon ;). Man. What a seremon XD. (And sorry for my bad english, im Finnish XD)

I bought the switch after a friend at work wouldn't stop talking about how awesome it is. Took the plunge and GLAD I did it's FANTASTIC. It sounds kinda weak on paper but TOTALLY surprised me in the clever design and instant play and put down ability. BRAVO NINTENDO

People talk about the Switch only being successful because of Zelda and Mario and nostalgia (obviously while two games that have sold in the millions are ARMS and Splatoon 2 and hopefully Xenoblade 2 bc the game is fire), but don't really understand it's greatness as a console in itself. These are the innovative things it does:
1. First handheld that can support 2-4 player local multiplayer (one system)
2. An HD dedicated handheld that supports a pro controller
3. Most convenient system ever made with it's speed and versatility
4. You can bring your home console anywhere as long as there's a dock - bring it to a friend's house and play on the TV (effortlessly) or have multiple docks in a home for all your TVs
5. You have the option to never stop playing home console games regardless of where you are
6. The joycons are wii remotes on steroids (gyroscopes, HD rumble, 1:1 motion controls)
7. Don't need your hands connected to play
8. You can play triple As on the toilet
It's not an upgraded Wii U. They could've made a handheld without detachable controllers without the same convenience or versatility. It's not a low-setting laptop gaming device - It has several exclusives already and it's the best place to play indie games. It's the best place for local multiplayer. Competitive games are made better because you can practice anywhere. Think of how easy it'll be to host tournaments. Docks with projectors maybe soon (there's a company making them).
This system is INNOVATIVE, c'mon people.
And now it runs the complete collection of Bioshock and also Borderlands which is so impressive. Imagine what's coming next. Switch is the best portable ever to date.

I agree! Nintendo has been killing it with the Switch. The home console game experience that can be brought with you on the go is a simple yet important concept that appeals to gamers like me who grew up in gaming but have become busy over the years with adulting. With home console gaming not really changing much over the years (controller, console, game, more graphics, repeat) it's refreshing to see Nintendo tap into something new for home console gaming that portable handheld game systems (and smartphones for that matter) can only dream of.

I remember wanting the Wii U because I thought the gamepad could be used anywhere. Imagine my disapointment when I took 5 steps outside my house and the connection cut off. I'm really exited for the Switch though, as it's been getting great games and has those cool joy-cons.

Switch is the portable dream console. It also looks attractive, yet so simple. The Switch looks so futuristic while docked, especially in red and blue color controllers.

futuristic? i think the dock is far too clunky especially since most of it is hollowed out plastic. only thing that's important is the two pronged charger and the back case slot

The host continually mentions limited supply, but every place I went this past week had plenty of them. I purchased mine at GaneStop. Initially they only had the grey version, but two days later got a shipment of the blue / oranges. I wonder if this 'limited supply' narrative is artificial or incorrect.
It´s a bit of both.
In Japan, it´s selling out all the time, so at the very least there it´s supply is the bottleneck.
In the US and Europe, it´s a lot more dependant on where you look, some shops sell out, some don´t, and some have a fairly steady stream of restocks.
It also seems that Nintendo has increased the amount of units available for christmas season, so that might mitigate the supply issues as well

If anyone would ask me to choose between my ps4 and my switch I'd take the switch over the ps4 anyday same counts for my brother. The switch has the local multiplayer what most people miss about systems like ps4 and xbox.. Nintendo will always run the local mulitplayer and coop business. But now they made the ultimate hybrid for single and multiplayer for home and on the way.. I think nintendo found a real gap in the gaming market and filled it with the switch and nobody is around to compete with them.. This is an total win.

Bad choice man tbh. PS4 has both quantity and quality games while switch just has quality games. This is just my opinion, but it’s not worth it to buy the Switch for Zelda or Mario. Yes, there are other good or decent games out there. But IMO, Switch isn’t worth it, at lease for now.

Nintendo dominated 2017 in the biggest way ever and it's their greatest comeback/redemption. Quality over quantity! The marketing/advertising of the Nintendo Switch and all the games is so much better. It feels much like how Nintendo marketed/advertised their other systems like NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Game Boy Advance, etc back in the day. But, we still have 2018 and more coming from Nintendo, their developers, and from 3rd parties for the Nintendo Switch. From new Nintendo Directs (The rumored one in January), E3 2018, etc. The Nintendo Switch being a "Home Console Hybrid" is what everyone needs to buy. Playing home console level games from the TV (Traditionally) and on-the-go in Handheld Mode is perfect. Especially if/when you want to local and online multiplayer games. We all need to let other developers know that we want to see their new games come to the Switch.

I’m 14 so I haven’t experienced a Nintendo golden age. And since all of my friends play on Xbox or ps4, Nintendo was seen as a joke, made bad games or was for little kids ever since the wii. But I’m pretty happy to pick up a switch and be apart of the beginning of a new golden age. I hope my friends see the benefits of the switch and change their mind about Nintendo and possibly get one. Btw, having a 3ds at my age means your “ a little kid” and your “ weird”. smh

Thus Crash Bandicoot were one of the biggest exclusives Sony had in store this year. Also, if you wanna take third parties into account, Crash Bandicoot was still one of the biggest for PS4 as it sold 2.5 million copies as of september, which is pretty good.

I have an Xbox One X but I am hoping to get a Switch soon. The ability to play AAA titles in any room of the house or on the go is a very big plus. In an household with a family, I don't always have access to the main TV so even with the slight downgrade in graphics over its Xbox One counterpart, getting the game for the Switch means I might actually get to play it and finish it PLUS Nintendo knows how to make fun games. For anyone to deny this fact, they are just lying to themselves. Can't wait to see more from the Switch.

Nintendo switch is basically the culmination of everything about gaming since the inception of computer gaming.
1) console quality graphics
2) portable
3) actually has first part and third party games people care about
i know right a switch and a PC are the perfect combo for intensive first party games or PC exclusives play on PC and for all of that "zelda, pokemon, mario and much more goodness" play on the switch and if you wanna splash the cash a little get a PS to (but i'd recommend staying away from Xbox the lineup seems kinda weak if you ask me"

I worry because where does it go moving forward? With the power of PS4 pro and Xbox1X the ports of current games are going to slug very quickly. The first party games have all been released, so it's going to be awhile before another Zelda and Mario. Is this console just going to be 16 Bit style games? With the great sales of system in first 9 months I'd like to see developers make games solely for the switch, but the cost of game development in this day and age might cause a problem.

Nintendo does not make the most powerful system, heck, it was losing to Sega before the company dropped the ball. But they have always had some of the best first party games on the market. (See: Breath of the Wild, Odyssey, Mario 64, etc.) And despite not being technically as powerful, they still have the capability to make beautiful looking games by “cheating” the hardware a bit. And for people who think that their systems are too inferior, Sonic Colors on the Wii proves that most third party developers didn’t even try. If it were just an average console like the XBox or PS4, the Switch would have been laughable, but the portability changes everything, it allows you to play your Marios, Zeldas, and Xenoblades on the go. And that is awesome.

They did a great job with the switch.Finaly leaving that cursed seal of quality, and give people the games they want, for the nintendo fans and hardcore gamers. Its a nice console for two worlds, also because its absolutly the best handheld out there.Not a ps4 or xbox one, but able to get any close on the move. For that, you should buy it

I'm planning on buying a switch specifically for one game that is coming out but I don't have the other consoles it can be played on. I also believe it might be the most portable option which is also why I'm interested in buying it. But I probably will end greatly liking the console and buying more games for it.
If they could just give backwards compatibility with Wii and Game cube games. This will officially be the greatest device ever made.

It’s a fantastic console. Its concept really hit me when I was traveling and was staying at a hotel. I had my Switch with me and I literally had the full experience of what I had at home in the palm of my hands in a random hotel room. I didn’t have to plug anything in or set up anything, I just had to turn it on and start playing. That’s when I really realized the Switch was very special.
Look... Maybe in America it’s a problem to get a switch but not everywhere. I live in Europe and I can just visit my local gaming shop and get it right away.

Bryant P You can get it through MyNintendo. A rewards club anyone can sign up and register. But you first need to own any one of the 3DS or 2DS systems to use it. If you already have then accumulate enough platinum coins (can be earned through weekly missions) to redeem it. Voila, you have it! Unfortunately you cannot online, but you can connect local wirelessly... eh?

The more i look at the Switch success, the more i am thinking about buying it. Its not because of 'Oh its Nintendo! I am gonna buy it!", its because of the games and portable. My travel time its getting further away that my phone can be quite board sometimes. I am also not into mobile gaming because it sucks. I am even more to Playstation because i trust Sony and their games! After the Vita failure, i got no choice but to accept that Nintendo is good at portable. I will buy the first non Sony consoles once it gets cheaper here. Its $600 for Switch no joke. I still love Playstation but once i got the Switch, i will only use it when i travel far away
Can't recommend the Switch enough. I have a gaming PC and a Ps4, but they've pretty much started to collect dust now. The portability of the switch is huge. Even something simple like playing on your bed before sleep is really cool and I wish I could just play every game I have on the Switch

I love my Switch. With that being said I also love my Wii U. It’s also a Wii so it plays all the unique Wii game on the same HD tv using hdmi.
It’s a magnificent piece of hardware. It’s lightweight, and the resolution on a tv is insane too. You can either play with it on the fly, at home on tv while on the couch, as well as turning it into a fantastic party activity. I’m honestly really impressed with it
It won 2 game of the year titles this year and those games are exclusives. That alone says a lot. Best console ever made

randomguy8196 Doom doesn't have 15 frame thought it never drop 30 frames(I know ps4 has 60). So stuff like Dragon Ball z and Persona 5 could easily run Xenoverse 2 is on switch and it runs perfectly fine and that's more demanding than the new Dragon Ball Game and switch is getting an exclusive shin Megami title which is the main Series 2 Persona personas the spin offs obviously a PS4 runs better but that's not the point of switch if I want the best way to play a game graphically I would play PC PC destroys PlayStation any day everyday it's cheaper faster and better inspects every platform has a reason for existing and switched is you can take it anywhere and it's not really arguable if that's a good idea or not because of sales show that it's a huge hit

I love my switch. I have custom firmware on it so I can really get everything out of it.
One of the best things about it is the local co-op play - sitting on the couch with your brother or best friend or even your parents playing a game together is like nothing else in the world, it's amazing and wonderful. Thank you Nintendo, even just looking at the Switch always brightens my day a bit!

An assumption without a link as proof. Nintnedo has some adult titles but no where near as many as sony. I would have 3 games on switch but on vita I can play 1 of them natively or all 3 through remote play while I had 5-6 games on vita by this time after launch. Meaning switch had a weaker launch game wise than vita to me and room for improvement

Yeah the switch is not hard to get I can go to Walmart right now and the shelves are packed. I think the switch is really cool just not practical for me I have no time to Game On The Go. But I'm so happy that Nintendo didn't fade away it's a part of my childhood so I'm happy it's doing good.

Hey just for clarification. I’m not saying adults can’t find the switch fun. I own a Wii U and play the E for everyone titles too. I was simply saying the Xbox and ps4 really lack family friendly titles. I’m legitimately glad the market spoke with their wallets and chose to support Nintendo.
I think the Wii U had every right to be a popular console. It had some really good games but the controller, marketing, lack of games, and dumb name let it down.

1) Nintendos 3rd party support and developers that are interested went up. So waay more people are making games and are putting there next game in the switch.
2) I play splatoon 2 every week with my friend who lives 2hrs away from me and the servers or Splatoon havent crashed once.
3) no miiverse isint a problem its a thing you want but isint needed.
4)Virtual Console isint a necessity just a preference.
5) Try something thats super cheap and are called *SD CARDS*
6) I mostly play handheld mode and it hardly dies one me. For intense big games 3 hours is awesome for others 4-6 hours is defenelty enough.
7) Who says a console has to have a set amount of power to be considered a home console? Its funny u call it underpowered and probably want more power but then you also want more battery life? You cant have both unless you want an insane price tag.
8)The controllers havent affected one game so stop spreading mis information
9) New games don't pop out of thin air they need time. So ports are fine especially since most of the switch audience most likely missed out in the wii u.
10) Nintendo is appealing to every demographic. Doom and the mature games are for the mature audience. Thier games are for everyone. Labo is for kids or anyone else.

I think the Switch is a pretty decent mobile console. What needs to be improved is the battery life. I like use the switch in handheld more than docked and the battery drains very quickly. Another issue I have is the constant getting kicked from online play. My favorite game is Splatoon 2 and I get booted out frequently. I have great wifi and I do not have these issues with online play on my Xbox one. I play games like Call of duty and Watch Dogs 2 and never get disconnected. If Nintendo could upgrade their online servers or whatever it is that boots people out that would be awesome.

I never owned a Wii U, and I got an XBOX 360 in 2014, I do not own an XBOX One or a PlayStation 4 so the Switch being less powerful in comparison means nothing to me, what I care about is that it's more powerful than the XBOX 360 I have and it is, and more importantly, the fact I can play Nintendo exclusives.
