Antique leather machine - Restoration

- Welcome to today's video where you saw the renovation of an old Landis special leather cutting and sanding machine sent to us by Mr. Robert Jan Trügg, Thank you.
This machine was used to produce and process leather.
Widely used in the past for various purposes, such as the production of leather goods, repair and restoration of old pieces of leather, as well as for the manufacture of shoes.
The leather machine was equipped with various tools and mechanisms that allowed the leather to be processed. These included, for example, sewing machine knives, pressing machines and other specialized tools.
These devices allowed artisans and manufacturers to work with leather and create various products with high precision and quality.
As man developed, so did the use of leather. In some cultures, leather was considered a symbol of high status, and the leather craft became highly sought after throughout the world.
It was used in everyday life and was primarily oriented towards function.
Its production began to grow.
Shoes, belts, hats, bags, gloves, harnesses, tents, jewelry and others were produced.
For example, the oldest leather shoe was found in an Armenian cave and is estimated to be 5500 years old.
An interesting fact is that even in China they used leather to make leather armor, which was made from both cowhide and rhinoceros and buffalo hide.
In the 18th century, leather experienced an industrial revolution, and nowadays the demand is very high, so artificial leather and synthetic leather material are also entering the market.
And that's all for today's video.

There are so few of restorers on youtube that actually tell the history of what they are restoring, but it really adds to my enjoyment. Thank you both for such great education and fascinating videos.
Thank you my friend for the beautiful and encouraging comment. We are glad that you like our videos greetings from the Czech Republic.
I agree! Plus there are so few real restoration channels! I’m so tired of the channels that have clearly purposefully ruined stuff just to “restore it”
@@Mountain_Man Many, if not most will do what the client wants. Often that is to make a pretty display without a care for the originality of the piece. You can't blame the restorers for wanting to see a profit for their work.
Your attention to detail is far superior to any I've seen on UA-cam. This piece, which was little more than a door stop, is now a working piece of antique history. It turned out beautifully. I love your channel. Keep up the great work. ❤
Thank you for your positive comment on my video. Your support and appreciation are very important to me. I strive to create content that is interesting and valuable to you. If you have any other ideas, comments or questions, please do not hesitate to write me. Your feedback helps me to keep improving. Thank you again and I look forward to meeting you again in the video world.
👍👍👍👑
What always amazes me with these older items is how rough the milling and machining were. We are so used to modern machines and very tight tolerances. So when you see bore holes with rough edges or casting marks and lines you wonder how they even let this get sent out (forgetting our modern biases in such things). And watching how they work so well once restored is relaxing actually.
Yes, I agree with that, but even if the products were once cast with all the mistakes and irregularities, they were always beautiful and fully functional in the final. Thank you Walter :)
Oh what a delight! Spent the day working on refinishing a 1940's waterfall desk, then came in to a Veradona video!
Life is good.
Seriously cool device and beautifully restored. Your attention to detail and problem solving is a joy to behold. And Veronika's explanation at the end is just so perfect. You two do such fantastic work! So glad I found your channel.
Thank you (again!) for posting; you two just make life better.
Take care!
Many thanks Dee for your regular visit to our channel. We are glad you found us and continue to follow us, we are delighted. Greetings from the Czech Republic.
So many pieces I didn’t think you would get it completely apart. Fantastic job as always. ❤❤❤
Really a lot of parts and many parts and screws were poorly disassembled. Thank you for watching Barbara :)
I'm 74 and my Grandfather had a shoe repair shop in Salem, Ohio, USA and I cut many leather soles for him when small. Hand crank and all. LOL thanks for them memories. Fabulous renew job done!
I love your marksmanship and patience when you do the work on all the antiques
Thank you very much for watching.
Outstanding restoration! There were so many parts! 👍
Yes, there were a lot of them :) Thanks for watching :)

Yet another perfect restoration. I always enjoy the history lesson. Thank you, and keep up the fabulous work.
Thank you both for watching our video and appreciating the history lesson. Hugs from the Czech Republic :)
Hello Radek and Veronica beautiful old machine beautifully restored Radek you are a very good restorer good job friend
Hi Vince. Thank you very much and I'm glad you liked our refurbished machine :) Greetings from the Czech Republic.
A great restoration. I am very impressed that you are disassemble your projects without damaging the parts.
I try, but it doesn't always work. Sometimes it is necessary to ream or grind off a part or screw and replace it with a new one, which makes the renovation longer. Thanks for watching Harry. Greetings from the Czech Republic :) Radek
When you post a new video it is always special. This one was great. I probably sound like a broken record. Watching the disassembly, restoration, and reassembly is always a treat. The narration your wife does is always informative and enjoyable. Thank you both for another wonderful experience.
Thanks a lot Steve, but nice words never get old. Good day from the Czech Republic.
Thanks again for another great resto, my family for 3 generations was in the leather and fur trade this brought back great memories
Wow, that's great Robert. Thank you so much for watching :)
I have restored at least 25 of these, and learned some tricks from this for sure! Extending the gear puller with a socket was worth the watching right there. Great job!!
Thank you, I'm doubly happy. Greetings from the Czech Republic.
It must be exciting when you get a new machine in the mail! Looking it over and planning the restoration is the first step of the adventure.
Yes, exactly. It's such a small Christmas. Lol
That gear repair turned out way easier than I thought it would be. Love the solution you came up with to cut the welded on material.
Wonderful restoration and explanation by you both. Thanks to both of you: Radek and Veronica.
Thanks for the kind comment Vickie. Greetings from the Czech Republic.
It's a great job. I say congratulations, congratulations..thank you for giving me such a beautiful recovery, be healthy and happy .Very nice video, you did a great job,😮😟
Another beautiful restoration my friend. Most people wouldn't even look at that never mind getting it working and looking brand new. Until next time. Sending massive love from 🇮🇪
Thank you Andy for the beautiful and encouraging comment. I'm glad you liked the video. Greetings from the Czech Republic.
The work you do truly is amazing 👍👏👏👏👏.you young lady have a gift 👍👏👏👏🇺🇲
Thank you so much James :)
What a beautiful restoration, and thank you for showing how this machine was used, I seriously couldn't figure it out.
Thank you very much for watching our video. And also that you lasted until the end even for the demonstration :)
Hello everyone from Armenia ✌🏼🇦🇲✌🏼
Hi Armenia! 😃
Thank you from the Czech Republic.
Howdy from Oklahoma. Enjoyed the restoration, but liked the music too! I'll bet Veronika chose it, LOL!😊
Thank you very much my friend :)
Radek, I could watch you restore all day long. You're a very talented man. I was wondering what that was when you were restoring it. It came out beautiful like everything else that you restore. I hope you and your family are doing well. I think of you often, my friend. ~Kevin
Thank you very much for the compliment Kevin. I'm sorry but I don't understand the exact translation of your question?!
This was my favorite of your restorations. This would be very useful for anyone making leather crafts. Thank you this was very enjoyable.
I love watching Masters at work! At the beginning of the video, I wonder what the piece is, and what it will look like when finished. I especially enjoy watching Mrs. Veradona as she explains the history of the pieces. Also, congrats Ma'am on looking so trim and fit! You look amazing! Keep up the Good Work! Always looking forward to your videos! 🤩😎
Thank you friend for the flattering comment :)
Since I've been a subscriber, your restoration ability has risen over the top. Keep up the beautiful restorations. 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you for inviting us into your beautiful home 🏡 for another restoration. Very informative & entertaining. - Carl, Florida, USA.
Thanks Carl for watching our video. We are glad you liked it. Greetings from the Czech Republic.
Sehr schöne Arbeit es macht immer Spaß zuzuschauen 👍👌 LG Christel
Das freut uns sehr, Christel, danke fürs Zuschauen :)
This is my first Veradona video on YT, and by chance I am from St Louis, Missouri, USA, same as this Landis Machine!
In further coincidence, I spent my childhood in gymnastics and sleep-away summer camp with Sokol, a then Czechoslovakian, now Czech organization. We would start all of our gymnastics competitions with 3 national anthems, which we were to know by heart: US "Star Spangled Banner", Czech "Kde domov můj", and Slovak "Nad Tatrou sa blýska". When I hear them I tear up, just like I used to!
We are happy about that, compatriots. Thank you for taking the time to watch our video. We will continue to be happy if you follow us. Beautiful day from the Czech Republic.
Yours is one of the only restoration channels that doesn't make their stuff look dirtier than it was when they got it
I'm glad, thank you very much. I am glad that you like our UA-cam channel. Greetings from the Czech Republic.
What a handy machine! I bet this machine fixed many a harness and leads! Thank you for another beautiful restoration, absolutely stunning!
That's an interesting point Debra, I never thought about it that way.🤔😉👍
I really enjoyed watching this at 2x speed. I didn’t miss a single detail. So interesting, another beautiful result. You are very skilled.
Thank you very much David.
Egy újabb csodálatos restaurálás! Évek óta figyelem a restaurálásaidat gyönyörűen sikerült. Imádom a csatornádat. Folytasd a nagyszerű munkát. Ti ketten fantasztikus munkát végeztek! Köszönöm.
❤
Nagyon örülünk, hogy tetszik a csatornánk barátom. Üdvözlet Csehországból.
The shaving/beveling function comes in handy, if you have to overlap some pieces to extend them!
Great machine with a heck of small pieces...
Thx for showing!
👍👍👍
I don't have much experience with leather yet, but working with it has always fascinated me :) Thank you for watching.
Rebuilding the teeth on that gear was the most impressive thing. But that green color really makes the final piece snap. Another nice restoration.
I try to restore things to their original state, and this also applies mostly to color. Thank you for watching Ted :)
Beautiful restoration and thank you so much for explanations
Good day. Thank you for sharing this insightful and educational video presentation. While watching the initial video where lubrications were sprayed on every moving part I experienced a flashback to the mid 1960’s when we had to repair and recondition mechanical typewriters (while in the US ARMY). Initially the ribbons and rubber rollers were removed and everything was air-blasted to remove paper dust and detritus. Instead of spraying each individual part the typewriters were placed into a tub or trough and liberally doused with kerosene. Once all the keys and other mechanical parts began moving the typewriter was set on an outside shelf and allowed to air dry. Then the real maintenance could begin.
Wishing you and your family a blessed week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings together. Peaceful greetings from NE Ohio, USA.
Wow, thank you for your story. Repairing typewriters must be really complicated when I imagine the number of parts that a typewriter has... And moreover, when you didn't have the opportunity to take a photo of everything at the time, where and which part belongs... Hats off :) Have a nice day from the Czech Republic
Excellent restoration 👍👍👍 . Thank you for sharing. Take care of yourselves, be safe 🇨🇦
Yes, thank you very much. Greetings from the Czech Republic.
Excellent video. Thank you! Does everything but make toast. Great job! Be safe
That I would improve it 🤔😉👉
Miluji, když si koupím starou věc ( teď zrovna sleduji aukci 3 starých jízdních kol) a můžu ji rozebrat, opravit, vrátit zašlou slávu. Pro mě je to radost a relax. Díky za tvoje renovace. Některé tvé praktiky používám. Pavel 🇨🇿
Děkuji Pavle to mě těší .
Another fabulous restoration! I've been watching your restorations for years and was a little giddy to see that you have done a restoration on machinery that was made in a town where I grew up!
So I'm happy twice my friend. I'm glad you liked our video.
Always look forward to these
Thanks :)
Phenomenal job!!!
❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you so much Samantha, I really appreciate it.
It is a good machine. I like the flensing particularly.
Stunning! Great job, and cheers to you and your wife from St. Louis, Missouri!
He put ST. Louis MJ though.
Thank you very much Michael, we send greetings from the Czech Republic.
@7:16, I knew that I recognized that name "Landis" somewhere!
Not did I actually go to high school with a Landis but Landis Machining, which was from St. Louis, MO, was next door to a shoe repair business, is STILL around today under the name Landis International Inc, and is a world leader in the manufacturing of shoe repair machinery, especially in orthopedics!
Wow.Interesting thank you for your information :)
Nice hands on this restoration Mrs Veradona.
Thank you :)
Wow! What an impressive machine! You have brought it back to all it's glory!
Thank you very much Annette :)

Superb restoration. Absolutely fantastic. Thank you for posting such content
Thank you very much. I'm glad you liked our video.
Amazing restoration job you did restoring that antique leather machine. Also amazing is how you repaired that one gear with chipped teeth by welding new steel on it and recutting it to like new. It looks much better and it works like a charm too. Excellent work and a lot of hard work you put into every detail.
You are an attentive viewer George. I'm glad you liked our renovation. Nice day from the Czech Republic.
Další krásná rekonstrukce a vysvětlení tohoto. Snad je s ním majitel velmi spokojený. A miluji barvy, i když si je nevybral.
.
dík
Excellent video, great coverage and love the natural sounds. Superb work really outstanding, exceptional. Noticed the magic cutting out the replacement cover, and what a perfect fit. Great piece to camera.
Excellent work as always 👏👏👍

Another interesting machine saved from disappearing. Thanks.
Great video as always.your talent never ceases to amaze me,beautiful old piece of history.just keep doing what your doing.👍👍👍😎😎😎
Thank you very much Tom for the lovely comment :)
That turned out nice. I have used a cutting/skiving machine but usually the arms on the cutter part are larger. The company that made that one is still in business. They are an expensive machine. Well done.
Yes, you are right, I tried to look for a similar machine on UA-cam, but as you say, they all had extended arms, not like mine. But in principle they are probably the same.
Super práce jako pokaždé 👍🏻. Skvělá restaurace a perfektní popis zařízení.

I can’t thank you enough for shielding the welds. I never thought I was sensitive to bright or flashing lights, but watching welding in videos gives me a headache.
Good morning from Southeast South Dakota

I'm making a video, remember? Lol, thank you :)

You are welcome and thank you as well😊
So it's a skiving and leather splitting machine. They still make them but not close to as awesome as the one you restored. Awesome job.😁👍
Thank you very much Jason. Yes I noticed they are still being made. And strangely enough, thin works amazingly :)
To actually see it! Just amazing
Thank you very much. I'm glad you liked the video.
Very nice work V.R... Did you notice how many parts that thing had? If I was restoring that, you would have enough parts left over to make 2 of them... Well thx for bringing us along on another adventure.. Take care my friends.... And may God Bless you and your family...
Thanks for watching Gary. I didn't count how many parts the machine had this time, but there were a lot of them :) As for the other parts, on the contrary, I'm always missing a screw. Like a mystery he wanders off somewhere.Lol.
