Obscenely filthy railway station bench restoration

- This bench was made by Luterma factory, somewhere in 1880-1900 era. Most of them were destroyed, but somebody saved this one. So it is quite rare.

As a retired railroader I'm gratified to see our history preserved. Thank you very much.
I wish I had gotten a job on a railroad. I love trains.
Trains have their own charm!
Yes! I love to see that there are people battling the throw away culture we have. These pieces of history are so important for us to remember our past. And things were made so much better back then too.
I say it every time. And I don’t mind saying it again… getting a notification that Ahti has posted a new video is just the best thing my phone has done today lol… I can’t wait to watch in full later… ❤️

Hahaha... you are way too funny!
I feel the same way!
Have a great day 💖
Me too, can only confirm. Well put!
What a sad life you must have.
@@icecream9009 REALLY? Come on!
Well, hidden drawers, wormholes, laser printing, typical great restoration skills AND a shoot out! This was quite an episode 😊
This bench will "live" to see many more days , thanks to you ! The design on the seat and back panels is lovely , and the graceful design brings a beauty to a utilitarian piece of furniture not generally seen in today's public places .
Wow 🤩 I didn’t even see that beautiful detail until you scrubbed it! You have so many magic tricks to save the furniture! Not to mention the big “shoot out “! 😂😂 I love it when you show your humor! A good laugh in the morning to start my day. Thank you 🙏🏻! Can’t wait for the next video! God Bless!
The design wasn’t even visible in the unfinished piece, but it was probably the reason that made the restoration worthwhile. I love the fact that you use both old master skills and cutting edge technology to achieve your fabulous results Ahti. Thank you for another mesmerizing idea!
I didn't know it had a design either.
That is an excellent restoration. Not too much, so it still has the look of an old bench. The 3D printing to replicate the pattern was inspired, and well executed, and the domed upholstery tacks finished it off nicely. Well done sir!
I believe he actually laser engraved the pattern. Lasers are becoming pretty handy for many things, like work previously done with a scroll saw, cutting templates, and inlay work.
I would have used a less bright tack tho.
I love how you retained the character of the bench and make it look beautiful again. Great job.
How absolutely lovely. And so clever with the laser imaging. You brought it back to life and it's wonderful. Thanks for sharing this, Ahti. This was a fun restoration.
Нравится наблюдать за вашей работой: никакой суеты, ни одного лишнего движения. И, как всегда, великолепный результат!
Oh my goodness Ahti, what restoration you have done. I know I’ve said this many times but your awesome! I had no idea that there was a design on those seats. You using that cool machine of yours definitely did it’s job.
I never new you can hide those worm holes but I learned that you can. Everyone wants church pews but I’d rather have a bench from a railroad station. If this bench could talk can you imagine the wonderful n sad stories it could tell. It’s definitely been well used n probably some love.
I like to mention, I’m so happy that you started this Utube channel. You are a master in your trade. I’m never disappointed in watching restore some history. Thank you.
♥️♥️♥️♥️😊👍👍🌟🌟🌟
PS, I love your sense of humor too.
Restoring one piece at a time. These older creations have more craftsmanship and style than any of today's stuff. Beautiful!
as always a spectacular restoration. One of your videos and a cup of coffee and its a great day. Thank you for taking all the time and effort to edit and post these videos. it is greatly appreciated.
Great job!
I cant believe that those thin seats weren't broken beyond repair after all those years.
The printing was a work of genius.
I like your no-nonsense approach, yet your respect for the craftsmanship and honesty of the piece you restore is always paramount. Always a pleasure watching you work.
Очередная прекрасная реставрация и очередной лайк и восхищение вашими проектами и мастерством!
Marvellous job, Ahti. I can imagine the buzz you get when you see the owner's joy and surprise on their face, seeing their piece restored. Who knows how many viewers have been inspired to take up cabinet making after watching your videos. Cheers, mate.
Perfectly imperfect ! OLD gal shows her age but not all her battle scars. Imagine the stories she could tell ! Love this piece. You are a genius in restoration. Thank you .
I love it that you left it’s character and still made it beautiful again. It’s glowing!❤️🐝🤗
I am amazed at the detail that was hidden by all of that dirt. I am glad you kept the character of the piece and didn’t restore it to look like new.
Patina is the history of its life.
It us amazing how much original wood you are able to keep in each piece. the laser printing was certainly inspired.
Very impressive restoration! Hard to believe a bench from a train station could survive since 1940. Thanks for saving part of history.
I love seeing old pieces restored. Not only did you give it new life, you are keeping history alive.
I never would have guessed that all of the dark areas were dirt and grime!! Wow! It got a well-deserved bath. Lol. It's gorgeous now!!!
A pleasure to watch the love you put into restoring this piece of history. I loved the finished bench.
Добрый день!
Как всегда великолепно! Ваши ролики нечасты и долгожданны, проекты интересны и сложны.
Искренне желаю сложных задач и успешных их решений!
So glad to see the small details in this station bench! So glad you cared for them!
That bench looks BEAUTIFUL NOW! You did an excellent job!!!😊👍🏼👋🏼
I love when you do these because you don't take the age and history out of a piece. It's beautiful and STILL shows it's had a long life.
Fantastic cleaning job! And what a beautiful result! Anyone would be proud to have it in their home or office.
I would buy it in a heartbeat ❤
What a beautiful transformation. I especially love the different glues, stains and shellac. So much skill and work with such a glorious final finished piece of history.
I used ti refinish for an antique dealer 30 years ago. I loved doing stuff like the top grooves on the top of the bench back! ITS SO SATISFYING!!!😅
If I only viewed the before and after photos, I would have wondered if this was the same piece. Watching the transformation, start to finish was amazing. It is a different as day is to night. Good job.
You do such GREAT work, you not only restore but actually bring back the original life to the item. It looks like it should. You work with what is there and not just replace it with new stuff, you will create a work of art with the old wood. You are a true Master at your chosen profession. Have a terrific day
I love that dimple effect on the back panels. Really clever how you restored this one Ahti and love these new toys!
Would the backs originally have the Russian imperial seal, given that these benches originally date to that era?
You have to appreciate the literal hours it took to make it, mostly by hand, and you preserving someone’s s work is so admirable!!
Beautiful work. The original craftsman would be proud.
What a wonderful restoration! The final shade gave the bench more style. It was very interesting to see the impression you made of the furniture's pattern. You are incredibly talented and humorous. Love it!🎉👏🌷
My dad was a carpenter, he started as a journeyman at six years of age... if he were still alive he would have greatly appreciated your way of working, very attentive and professional... a true craftsman, in the best sense of the word
What a sensitive aesthetic restoration. It's a beautiful piece of railroading history.
great restoration, brightened but preserved, cheers!!!
Прекрасная работа!!!❤️❤️❤️
Amazing abilities and well executed restoration 🎉. Your humor makes your videos the absolute best!😂
Brilliant work! Very enjoyable video. Thank you! 😊
A dozen thumbs up!!! Beautiful thorough work, artistry and a pleasure to watch.
I love your "explanation" of the secret compartment. Great work.🎉
Gorgeous! And a very well equipped shop!
The little vacuum looking thing and cold hammer were so cool to see, among other tools.
From filthy to super nice. Absolutely lovely word again. Is there anything you can't restore?
I love old furniture there is such great craftmanship in the making of these pieces. Very solid and beautiful in detail. Modern furniture won't last the time.
I could just smell the years of smoke, steam and hot oil as you were cleaning it. Fine job, and a nostalgia trip for me.
Congratulations !! I can see nothing is impossible for you !! Thanks for that video !
That's one of the most beautiful restorations i've ever seen done.
This is absolutely stunning. Up until I was a teenager our depot had historic items like this that were a pleasure to sit on, see and try to imagine all that had passed by. It is not a restaurant and you have to catch the train up on the platform. Not sure what they did with all of the items but if they did anything like this then I'd call it success.
This bench came out beautiful. Your hands are wonderful
Very clever way of replicating the old embossed plywood.
The information you share is so Golden. Thank you for such great knowledge and workmanship!
What a beautiful restoration. And so much work involved! I admire you. Thanks for sharing this.
So beautiful! The history of this simple bench .
Loved the redo. looks great. Thanks.
A beautiful piece of our history saved .enjoy your videos, thanks!
A true craftsman! Gorgeous piece!!!
I could watch you repair all day
Enjoy watching your restoration project.
Must admit I squealed when the pattern on the seat & back pieces were revealed by cleaning - gorgeous!
Beautiful finished piece, imperfectly perfect. Glad you didn't remove all signs of age, but cleaned it up and made it usable again.
A bench from a train station is fantastic; I have an oak bench from an old pipe organ that I adore. Might look around for old library furniture as much of that was made from oak, too.
The brass tacks perfectly finish that piece. Great work!
What a fancy bench! You made it look brand new again. Awesome worksmanship!
When I was young I often visited the local pool room when the old guys would play snooker.
As they smoked they laid their cigs on the table rails, the longer they ran the table the longer the cig could burn into the wood.
That table was mfg. in the 19th Century and it endured decades of the same "abuse."
The pool parlor closed in the 1970s, the table was sold to a local realtor who had it refinished.
He was smart enough NOT to erase all those scars of yesteryear but to leave 90% of those traces of time.
He embraced the patina of time. He then owned a 9'x4' master piece of Americana.
What a magnificent pool table locked in his basement.
I often wondered if that work of art missed its former life as the center of attention or was content in retirement.
Love the flower inlay. Thank you for your wonderful work.
Really a pleasure to watch a true craftsmen at work Greetings from Southern California.
Wow that is a lot of dirt! Ugh
Beautiful Result! Gorgeous!
You do such wonderful work. This is just beautiful!
Good for another 100 years....Great Job! Javi G.
Absolutely beautiful! Thank you! ❤
Great work. It looks like a medieval treasure. Thank you. God bless you.
Labor of love right there.
GREAT job as ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!❤
The finish on the back rests and the seats from a distance looks like antique leather. Very nice work. Thanks for doing it
Je ne manque pas une seule de vos vidéo et j’adore votre travail .
Merci pour votre super boulot.👍
Ready for another hundred years! Well done! Great idea using the laser tool!
Lovely job. Loved the lateral thinking with the panel.
Well done Ahti!
Especially the Oscar worthy cinematic interlude based in the 1940s. And the historically accurate equipment and costumes - marvellous! 😉
No seriously: I'm astonished how well this comes out. I never thought this lasered part could be looking so good!
😆
Another top tier restoration from my favorite furniture restorer on YiuTube!
STUNNING TRANSFORMATION!
I so admire your work. I love watching you restore and create. I want to be like you when I grow up. LOL
Good idea to print the bottom!
Awww... what a lovely restoration of an old, sad bench. I never tire of watching your videos and your attention to detail. Thank you for another visit to your shop!
Much nicer than I had anticipated, good job !
I’ll say it again. Very worth the wait for your videos! Enjoyed this one too. Such a difference! Beautiful job!
Absolutely love your artistry! That bench is a beautiful work of art that needs to be appreciated. Thank you for your dedication!
Beautiful as ever!
Another fantastic restoration!!! ❤❤❤
Oh how I wish we were neighbors! 😃 (I don’t mean to be creepy!) I just LOVE to refinish and remake things others seem to find unworthy of anything but the trash! I think u are like that too. Thanks for your videos and I can’t wait for more🥰
Beautiful. I love how it still has some "age" showing on it!!
Great restoration as usual!!!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I’m just seeing this bench and I’m already in love with it! The finished bench is gorgeous!
My gosh, your work is brilliant, mate.
As usual, excellent job!
Well done! I love how you cleaned, repaired and refinished the piece while still leaving all of the "beauty marks" that make this old bench so lovely!
Wow, what a labor of love. It was fascinating to watch. Great restoration.
This one was definetely my favorite.
