One of the main reasons I love Doctor Who isn't that it has joyous times, but its the painful, sad, emotional times which make the show so impactful and interesting. The Doctor wouldn't have good times without his pain.

This might have something to do with Tennant being the Doctor for the longest time out of the revived series actors who have played him, but most of the Doctor's best lines come from Tennant's time as the Doctor. There are times when he shares his pain and grief with the audience and we feel sorry for him. But there are just as many times when he shows his rage and I don't know about anyone else but he actually scares me. The best 2 moments where we see his rage, in my opinion, are Forest of the Dead when he speaks directly to the Vashta Nerada and, despite there still being no known way to fight the Vashta Nerada more than slowing them down, they respect and fear him enough to back down. The second moment is basically the whole episode of Demon's Run. Hey's joyful throughout most of that episode, laughing at how easily his friends take the base, but at the beginning he wipes out a whole Cyberfleet simultaneously and near the end, he terrifies Madame Kovarian after she taunts him.

You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become a villain. This quote suits the doctor far more then Batman, because he is a man who has lived too long, has fought in so many wars, lost so much in life, and when you keep having to fight and hold on tight to that pain to those memories until they singe into your soul, it becomes harder and harder to do so no matter what he/she does.... But.
Everybody knows that everybody dies and nobody knows it like the Doctor. But I do think that all the skies of all the worlds might just turn dark if he ever, for one moment, accepts it. But not every day. Not today. Some days are special. Some days are so, so blessed. Some days, nobody dies at all. Now and then, Every once in a very long while, every day in a million days, when the wind stands fair and the Doctor comes to call, everybody lives.

If I remember rightly the new Doctor specifically refused to watch a single previous episode of the show because she didn't want to be influenced. By contrast literally every single previous actor on the show has been an enormous fan of the show excited to play a role in it.
Whether or not her decision to go into it knowing nothing about the show's history is a good one or not, I think the director's decision to _allow_ that when previously only ardent fans were hired probably has something to do with the change of pace.

She aspired to be the best in her performance, yet the writing failed and her acting came out as weak as the script she performed wpuld have her bounce all over the place and it would leave massive whiplash. Or just straight up boredom.

Twelve’s season should have ended with The Doctor dying. Not to avoid the Thirteen’s series, but because Twelve’s era was about how immortality and a longer life becomes tiring, that you get “tired of watching everything turn to dust”- The Doctor dying for good would have been a bittersweet ending for The Doctor- finally putting him to rest after his painfully long lifespan.

So he merely fades away into ash and smoke and drifts into the realm of legends forever. But with so many incarnations strewn about the timeline it would, in someways, be like he was everywhere at once. Perhaps a final companion or enemy would witness his burnout, but the universe at large would refuse to believe it. And so he'd be immortal whether he liked it or not.

This is your own failing, Doctor... You’re more of a monster than all your enemies combined... Not even the creator of the most dangerous metal menaces is enough to match up to you... You could’ve saved so much... But all you do is run... Even your mad minded childhood once best friend has led more stable incarnations... It’s sad... But in the end, there’s never much you can do... Don’t blame yourself... Blame is never what you strike upon even your worst enemy... It all begun with an old man in a box... Always remember who you are, and what you were... Never forget...

Well 10 said he didn’t wanna go and that’s cuz he did not have a long tenure. Yes he served 4 years just like smith and Capaldi, but 11 lived for hundreds of years, as seen in season 6 and in time of the Doctor. 12 gave his age as over 2000 at one point, and that’s not counting the 4.5 billion years in confession dial. David Tennant’s Doctor gives his age as 900-904, that incarnation only lived for 4 years.

12th Doctor: In all that time, did you ever hear anything about anyone who stopped me?
    A billion years ago:
Rose Tyler, all of 19 years old, stepped between the Doctor and (supposedly) the last Dalek and asked him what he was becoming. He dropped the weapon he was pointing at her.
So often, it's the Companions who stop him, who encourage the better parts of his nature. Rose, Donna, River, Amy, and all the others. They're like the angels sitting on his shoulder, pushing him to be better. It's when he is alone that weight of his life and fate crushes him and leads him to lash out. Just as Amy said, this is what happens when he travels alone.

Doctor Who is a perfect example of why people shouldn't be afraid of death. Although it's much easier said than done, the idea of immortality and endless living is just as frightening as death in a way as eventually you'll lose the people you care and love so dear and what happens after that? What kind of grief will someone experience and forcibly endure? Even if you're the smartest man in the room you cant prevent death as without death, life would have no meaning. It's just the same as the Doctor's current dilemma; to him, his current existence has no meaning as although he has come face to face with gods, demons and monsters, he is powerless in saving his companions from their inevitable death and that's what makes immortality an infinite torture.
