Update: Some time has passed since this reaction and it’s still one of my favorites. I’m now a mother! My own mother and I have always had a complicated relationship. And I couldn’t understand the lyrics of this song at the time. But it resonated so deeply. There is so much behind the emotion that came up here. The irony of listening to this song about a smothering mother with my own mother is astounding. Pink Floyd has to be one of the greatest bands of all time. ❤️ - Lex
Mother is actually a really sad song, it’s about an overbearing mum molly coddling her son and not letting him be a boy and do the things he wants to. This is because she lost her husband in the war and is terrified of losing her son. It’s all done through love but has a negative effect on him creating bricks in his wall of isolation. That’s why he says at the end,” Mother did it need to be so high”. I cried today listening to Pigs on the Wing parts 1 and 2. Also When the Tigers Broke Free gets me every time, both by Pink Floyd. Love you guys btw.
Yeah, it's a very clever song because of how warm and welcoming the sound of it is, but then you pay closer attention to the lyrics and realize it's kinda messed up. Just like how the mother appears to just love her child and want the best for him, but when you look past that appearance and notice what she's actually doing you realize that she is actually hurting her kid.
For 41 years now I thought it was "Mother didn't mean to be so high". Obviously I never read the lyrics. Why would I? I'm a guitarist who can't sing. lol
This is why we love you so much Lex. We all respect that art moves you and that you aren't afraid to put those feelings out there. Pink Floyd has the ability to touch the soul, perhaps more than any other band.
I'm 57 ...2 sons ..I have to run physically away from this song because it makes me bawl and bawl fall to my knees and very hard for me to get back up .my heart can't take it
We keep saying that, and not just for Floyd! What about Tull, Yes, ELP, and so many other musical artists? But in today's spotified culture, most people cannot make that kind of sustained commitment to music it seems... Their loss!
You seriously think he's never heard of this band before? My god people are gullible. He's cried on a few videos now to make you think he's emotionally moved by the song. Once you do it a few times, its no longer genuine.
More likely, the world will change her... her mom thinks she's silly and her man doesn't understand the songs. They will make her conform. They will help her build a wall. 😢
I think Lex is also lucky, Brad seems to have a very good head on his shoulders…seems like the type that will do what’s necessary and not shirk responsibility. Both seem, to me, to be beautiful souls.
It is a story of a young man who is struggling with his own feelings of abandonment and loneliness. The lyrics depict the protagonist's relationship with his mother, and how it affects him later in life. The mother in the song represents both love and nurturing, as well as guilt and manipulation. Overall, the song explores themes of parenting, mental health, and the struggles of growing up.
Lex, I know you probably won't respond and that's ok, but I just want to give you my thoughts. I'm a combat vet of Desert Shield and Desert Storm. I was a 22 yo kid then and I was scared, but I kept going forward because we had to complete our mission. When I was in bed my mind would just scramble off all the things that could go wrong there. I left my son before his 1st birthday to fight this war. Mother was THE song they got my head straight and kept me going forward! This song is so special to me. I had tears in my eyes when I saw you cry! Just wanted to share this with you guys. Thank you for playing this song. ❤️🇺🇸❤️
Really your mind was straightened out by listening to a song about child abuse...... I think it's safe to say that your mind is far from being straightened out....
@@gavb9816 exactly why should I do that... This guy is reacting to and completely misinterpreting a song about child abuse and is drawing inspiration from it.... What needs to be removed is his reaction to the song. Clearly he doesn't understand what it's about. No one should be reacting positively and finding comfort in this type of subject matter... I've listened to at least two dozen reactions from other people and they all draw the same conclusion. This is the furthest thing from a tale describing a relationship between a doting mother and a loving son. Jesus does anybody in your country have an education?🇨🇦
@@PATRICKFRANCIS-bt4hs being educated also allows you to appreciate different viewpoints... Sometimes what gets you through the night is what gets you through.
This is about a mother who protects her child to the point of rendering him unable to cope with life. You should listen to this in context to the rest of the album. THE WALL is a complete rock opera. It's about isolation and all the things in life that have helped build a wall around this person. Including mother!
When listening to Pink Floyd for the 1st time I feel you should have the lyrics and read along, their writing is amazing and the albums are more like one long song definitely the masters of the concept album. I have ben a fan since about 1970, discovered Pink Floyd and pot about the same time 6th grade don't judge times were different back then.
I was crying right along with you 💕 what a great moment you had, with your mother by your side! A treasure! The song is beautiful but sad, have you watched the movie The Wall yet? It's going to put more perspective into what the songs from that album are all about 😊
Mommy might have played a role but the truth is... Roger is a self absorbed, egotistical jerk. Mommy didn't create that ...he did. And as an aside... he is in my top 3 as far as who I love.
It cannot be stated enough. The Wall is a concept album that MUST be heard from start to finish to achieve the full emotional effect. This Album is PURE GENIUS. Also your moms is awesome.
Very true. And you see YT reactors frequently express strong emotions to this song because they listen to it on it's own away from the context of the story, and it really is a beautiful sounding song. Presumably reactors are thinking about mom. Irony is that this isn't a 'mother's day' tribute song. In the story of the Wall, things are not good between mom and baby. She lost her husband and he last his Dad at a very young age. They both need him. result is that baby doesn't have father figure and mom has become overly domineering, protective and overbearing. Much therapy will be needed down the road for these two. And Lex, you're 100% correct. David's solo is beautiful and so emotional. He gets a little more time to express himself live compared to the album version, and he takes advantage of that.
I've listened to Pink Floyd since the 70's, but I can honestly say watching the three of you enjoying the experience took Mother to a whole new level. Thank you.
Girl, your so lucky to have your Momma sitting right next to you listening to this. Count your blessings that you have this as a wonderful memory for the rest of your life.
That is not what this song is about at all Mamas going to make all your nightmares come true mamas going to put all her fears into you Mamas going to keep you under her wing she won’t let you fly but she might let you sing
But the song is about how the love of a mother can trap and weaken a person. The mother in the story is a true Gorgon, right out of Greek Mythology. The mother of the song is so protective that the son can not grow up out of her protection. The Wall started as a device of her making to continually protect and insulate the child. Which, in the end cut off the man from people. From any real relationships and therefore prevented him from becoming a man.
That's the dilemma, mothers want to protect their children from the horrors of the world, but the more they protect them the weaker the children become if and when they eventually grow up. So all that love and protection children under 7 need is counter productive after age 7 or so...I think that's where a good father comes in handy....
The combination of Lex getting choked up, her Momma saying "Silly Girl" but then cuddling with her, and the knowledge that the song isn't quite so much about caring but being almost overbearing in her watching over her son... All of that and seeing Lex getting totally lost in the feelings... Yeah, I had the tears flowing by Lex's reaction too...
I scrolled comments to see if anyone could hit the nail on the head of how i was reacting , and this is purely what I was feeling. Knowing she was missing the over - arching message of Waters (at times, sarcastic) lyrics but simultaneously experiencing the overwhelming emotion of it all. AND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF HER OWN MOTHER SAYING “silly girl” , cause mama got it lol but she let her baby girl feel it all for herself. Wonderful reaction. And wonderful comment Edward Paulsen
It literally hurts my soul that there are adults in the world who have never availed themselves of the towering genius of Pink Floyd. We'll never have anything like them, ever again.
YES , GOTCH YOU!!!! don't be embarrassed to cry, that's what they do . Pink Floyd will open you up, they will tug on your strings you never knew you had. It's beautiful dark and full of wonder magically coming together to almost make sense of it , but still leave you in wonder. You'll never get it .but we keep listening for our completion . And it will never come.
This song is beautiful... until you really pay attention to the lyrics. Then it's a horror story. Pink Floyd has the ability to really make a terrible story into beautiful art.
A horror story? Hey, I got a news flash. Mother puts her fears into you.....indeed she does. And the love too if you're one of the lucky ones. No horror, just life. Even the ending. I can personally attest to that one.
@@davidhutchinson5233 It's a horrific story of a kid who lost his father in the War, and was raised by a single mother who became excessively possessive and ruined his ability to have a healthy relationship with women and ultimately all people. As a man he suffers a mental breakdown and goes into depression and isolation (everything and everyone becomes just bricks in his wall). He becomes psychotic and has delusions about becoming a psedo-Nazi leader. When forced out of his isolation by psychiatric treatment, it lives that as a punishment, being forced to suffer others' judgment. The album ends with him toying with the idea of suicide. Yeah, "just life".
The song pigs on the wing is a great love song, but pigs on the wing to Roger Waters was a German blimp dropping bombs on his city when he was a child during WW2.
As someone who cries in response to beauty and joy, I cried right along with you, Lex. The live performance has special energy and seeing you sitting with your beautiful mom, who kept you safe and warm, I cried right along with you. 💓💓💓
Everything has its place and time. It's possible they'd reached a creative dead end I suppose. But, given what both parties released later, I doubt that. Pink Floyd is perhaps one of the best examples of a whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Both Waters and the rest of the band have gone on to produce some fine music. But none of it has ever reached the level of their collaborative efforts. There was something about the chemistry between Waters' lyrics and his well known penchant for production perfectionism (he was notoriously known to never be fully satisfied with a song, always wanting to add and tinker with it). Combined with Gilmour's melodic sensibilities and Mason's sense of rhythm that just elevated their creations to the level of fine art.
Brad I've been married to the same woman for 33 years now, I know when a woman is a keeper, never let Lex go. I'm not basing this on just this one video alone as I watch them all and Lex your authenticity comes through loud and clear. God Bless both of you and you are both a breath of fresh air in today's crazy mixed up world. Oh and Momma, you did a real good job!
Just one person’s opinion, but for me I honestly feel that Pink Floyd is peerless among their contemporaries’ as well as currently in the world of “Rock” or popular music. There’s a complexity and sophistication to their artistry that distinguishes and sets them aside, brilliance.
True. I go long stretches where I don't feel the urge to listen to them, because it's almost TOO much. It's not always "pleasant" to listen to because of the depth and nature of their lyrics. Then , when feeling contemplative or a.need to be moved .. I binge. When listening to music I normally focus on the music.and rarely absorb the lyrics until many hearings. But NOT with Floyd. From day 1, their lyrics went str8 to my brain. Which is saying something with respect to me. To put a fine point on your point about them simply being more layered and complex than anyone else ... ever in rock ... this came out in '82. I was in grade 10. By '87 when I was in 3rd year university, they had 400 English lit and music theory classes that spent an entire semester studying nothing but The Wall.
I’m not sure what concert this was. Earls Court, Nassau Coliseum or LA. Only 3 times they played The Wall as Pink Floyd. They had a Mens Quartet singing back up, Snowy White as a second guitar player and countless stage hands building The Wall as they played. You can see the whole concert on this platform. Simply the greatest production of all time in rock music!
The radio station I listen to keeps playing a cover of The Edmund Fitzgerald by a group named Headstones. They sing it with no emotion at all, almost like they lost a bet and are trying to get it over with as soon as possible.
I've heard and loved this song for decades and never been moved to tears until watching Lex watch this with her mother and just completely feel the song.
Funny (and beautiful) how she feels songs so deeply, yet she *completely* misses the point of so many songs because of her innocence, and/or ignoring the lyrics. I love her energy and she’s adorable, but it needs to be said bc this song is about something only men experience, yet not a word said about that. It’s not just Lex, this reflects are entire society which literally gives no 💩💩s about men’s feelings or experiences. Rant over… just saying. I thought she might be tearing up over the thought that she might “tear your little boy apart”, or was feeling concern/empathy for the suffering of men, but turns out she was crying because she thought it was about a mother “taking care of” her child!! 🙏🏼❤️🙄🤣
@@fzarro9947 I believe the verse got her because in one of their couch sessions they talk about her family, (mother), not being openly accepting of Brad when they were younger. When that verse hit about not being good enough, or dangerous to the child, is exactly when she lost it. I think she gets the lyrics a lot more than she leads on in this one and the fact she is sitting in between the two of them, is keeping her true feelings to herself on this one. That's my take on this. This song while meant to be about a boy, could easily translate to any child with an overbearing mother/parent. That's the beauty of music. It can be whatever you want it to be and relate to it however we choose. Peace and love to all
She misdirects, "I was not ready for this." "It's so beautiful." "It's so honest." Then the "you'll always be a baby to me" with the hug and nervous laughter followed by over dramatic applause and rambling about serial killers is the ultimate misdirect- she needs to get out of her feelings.....what better than a serial killer? She so obviously gets it....watching her initially made me tear up.... And it has nothing to do with anyone being analogous to the song it is more about the fact that the archetypes that Pink Floyd elucidate in their music are elements of reality that apply at various levels to all Mother's. All mothers have this instinct. Some give into it more than others, and your ability to relate to the message in this song is only relative by matter of degree.
Despite the actual lyrical meaning, I don't think I've seen anything more adorable and heart wrenching than this woman and her mother grooving to the song. It really is such a powerful song, the statements it makes, the feelings in conjures and the beauty of the melody make this a song on a par with nothing else. To see such emotion evoked from a song Lex has never heard before and to see her own mother's love and identification with some of the statements is a powerful thing indeed. Rarely do one of these 'reaction" videos provoke such a reaction in me. Such beautiful women right here. This coming from some 54 yrs old white Italian dude from new jersey, you know this reminds me of my own mother, God rest her soul.
Lex's reaction and understanding of the song proves that we can hear the same song and take completely different things from it. In the context of the album, The Wall, this song is about an overbearing mother, not a nurturing. loving mother.
HITMIX HYEPOCK I absolutely love this album, certainly the mother could have gone about it a different way but I think she wanted to protect from the harsh realities of having lived through a war he didn't understand and a father he never knew. Sorry for going on and on, but this whole album is such a heartbreak 💔💔
Lex, I think I will always be in awe of your ability to so deeply emotionally connect with music. I've loved Pink Floyd since I first heard them decades ago. And I like each and every song on the album (The Wall) that contained this song. But I don't think I've ever heard this song with so much passion as you did. I love the dynamic that you and Brad bring to your reactions--his attempt to delve into the meaning behind every line of lyrics and your fully-invested sensory joy in experiencing the music. And this stream with Momma Lex the other night was just wonderful--from her reminding Lex about a connection with a Bruce Springsteen song to her sharing a favorite high school band (Toto) with you guys. It's clear to see where Lex gets her joy of and appreciation for music.
For Lex to react so emotionally positive over this song, which is about the smothering effects of an overbearing authority, whether it's an actual mother or a fascist government, scares the bejeezers out of me. God help her children. And her mother's male children.
Roger is not an outstanding singer but when he puts his emotions into it, damn his vocals can deliver such power its unreal. This song is one of the songs where he does that as well ad Hey You at the end and a bunch of other songs on The Wall, and The Final Cut. Animals has its roger moments too especially on Dogs his vocals are excellent and very powerful.
This album is like a movie script (and was actually made into a movie). The whole album is one story of a man who withdraws from humanity and then fights his way back to sanity.
You're not human if you don't get all the feels out of Mother. This song gets in you and exposes all your desires and fears in just a handful of lines, while the guitars gift wrap it in a perfect presentation. Let 'em flow Lex!
@@thomasmills339 Some of us have more subtle feelings, very subtle even, like mine that only show up in extremes. THE GREAT GIG IN THE SHY activates those extremes, though this one does not. It's magnificent, still.
You guys give me hope for this world. Lex, don't ever feel like you need to hide your tears. Mom, never stop hugging your baby. Brad, never stop being the rock for it all.
That sums it up. Guys, hold back your feelings and concerns about yourselves, they don’t matter, it’s all about women!! I just wish feminists would fold up their tents and go home, bc they couldn’t give a flying @#$& about men’s needs or feelings either… it threatens their female victimhood narrative!! 🤣🤣🤣
Awww......Lex, such a sweetie! She truly feels the music. So sweet and moving to see. Yes, the music and the lyrics go hand in hand with this song. And......that guitar solo is so simple but beautiful. What a band!
Yeah, but totally clueless when it comes to what this song is about. She certainly wasn't listening to the lyrics. The song's not honoring moms everywhere. It's about Pink's overbearing mother. All you have to do is listen to the lyrics.
Watching Lex cry, and her mom comfort her, made me cry and long for my mommy. I felt this song's real meaning when I was a boy, and since she's passed it holds completely different meaning to me. Appreciate your mom while she's here!
just made it through my mothers 5 yr anniv of her passing. I long for her everyday. This is a very dysfunctional song in its meaning and wording, yet open for interpretation for all and by all.... the beauty of music. I hear it differently now too..... damnit.
I ran to the record store and bought this album the day it was released/available......its by far (along with Dark Side of the Moon and Wish u were Here) the most important albums of all generations because it continues to spreak to new listeners many many decades later !!! .....love u guys !! ....Lex - your MoM ROCKS !!!!!...
Animals is much more important in todays world. Wonder why you skipped over that iconic album? Also, Atom Heart Mother, Meddle and Obscured By Clouds are every bit as good as Dark Side.
6:53 yes it seems sort of beautiful at this point. Some crucial points: "Mama's gonna make all of your nightmares come true" and "Mother, did it need to be so high?". If you listen to the full Wall concept album, you'll see that by "helping" him build a wall, that his mother failed him, as it trapped him inside and made him go completely insane. In this case Mother was a total nightmare and failure to her son.
this is very true. i love the wall. but the beauty of this song in particular is you don't need to know the context to appreciate the different meanings. it's clearly about good intentions...but do people focus on the thought that should count or the limitations and the "bad" that good intentions bring to the table..(more often than not). people can see the good, the bad, and/or the ugly or a combination of it. that's the beauty of this song. it doesn't have to be about any one thing.
"Look Mommy, there's an airplane up in the sky." Putting this song in context will really wreck you. Love your Mom! Lost mine last year and seeing you guys hugging was really sweet :-)
Dude, that’s nice, but you *completely* missed the entire point of the song, like so many others. And yet it couldn’t be more obvious… her selfish, controlling “love” was abusive, and seriously damaged her son, emotionally, socially, etc. The whole album is about his attempt to recover from the damage she did!!! (And a society that doesn’t give a damn about men in general… we’re just cannon fodder). Truly blows me away how many people completely IGNORE the clear lyrics, and are like, “Isn’t that sweet… Mommies are so wonderful.” Roger might as well have not written and lyrics at all, bc people aren’t listening!!! 🤣🙄🤣🙄🤣#LaLaLaICantHearYou
@@fzarro9947 What you fail to understand is that a mother carries that baby for nine months and feels the first time that baby moved; therefore, some mothers are overprotective. Don't blame or judge mothers. I would rather have one overprotective than one that abandons their kid.
Damn it Lex!! You've just had a 49 year old Scouser almost weeping. Love the reaction, love the song love your honest emotion.... Give your mum a hug form me x
Most authentic reaction I've seen on UA-cam. Thank you. (btw - I feel the same emotions with many Pink Floyd songs. Try to make it through "The Gunner's Dream" from the Album "The Final Cut")
i've been watching you guys for a while now, and Lex's honest, genuine reactions are what keeps bringing me back. You get music on a level very few of us get. There's no faking it, we can see it. It's awesome watching someone "get" something like you "get" it. You guys rock \m/
"I feel the music"... You got it !. Being a Pink Floyd fan for nearly 45 years, I fully understand your reaction. I have lost count of how many times Pink Floyd made me cry. You feel it in every corner of your heart and mind. I recommend listening to Southampton Dock/The final cut from the 1982 album "The final cut". My personal favourite Pink Floyd song.
When the Berlin wall came down, Pink Floyd had a concert there. They invited some guests to sing/play with them. Sinead O'Connor (from "Nothing Compares 2 U" fame) sang "Mother". It's an amazing performance. Check it out.
Not Pink Floyd, just Roger Waters. They already split up. But yeah, the concert was amazing. Once in a lifetime experience (only a six-hour drive from where I live). The DVD did not capture the atmosphere though.
@@triple9silver203 Did Sinead even perform in the show? It's been a long time but I thought she had a big problem with being asked to lip sync. I've seen rehearsals but best to get it from someone who was there.
@@rizipt She had major audio problems when she came out. Most of the song was you couldnt even hear. When they made the DVD of the concert the used most of the footage for this song from the night before. The night before the played the concert in it's entirety to no crowd due to so many artist being part of it and wanting the next night to go flawless. Didnt happen though. Me and my friend went down the night before and could hear it and see some of it from a far outside the gates. The next morning we were down there when the gates opened at 10am and it didnt start I think until 6pm. I remember it was a blazing hot day and we were shoulder to shoulder with people as far as you could see. We were not to far back and it was a great concert but it took a heavy toll on my body for sure. Long hot day but worth it for sure.
Pink Floyd, probably more than any other band, has always hit me on a deep emotional level. This song, Comfortably Numb, Time, Great Gig in the Sky and Shine On You Crazy Diamond--among many others--seem to speak to deeper levels of our minds. I've seen other reaction channel people tear up to PF.too.
Absolutely right. Been listening to them since 1985. Never stopped. My dad used to lay on the sofa with headphones listening to DSOTM in the 70’s. I heard it and was hooked.
Great analogy. Hits me the identical way. Floyd puts us in a deep thinking 🤔 mind. Fender made the guitar. God made David Gilmore to play it. HELLO from Orlando, Florida. 😜🐊🌞🌴👌
100% agreed. Lex, I could feel you feeling the music and it was beautiful. Emotional levels are entirely individual. I am right there with you on this one. Music has been my lifesaver and Pink Floyd was right there for me to melt into another world and out of my own and I will always be thankful for their talent. Anyone can say what they will as we all have that right, but these guys are ridiculously amazing and always have been.
My mum died when I was little...she was the most beautiful person, everyone adored her...this song makes me bawl every time, so I fully understand ya Lex. X And it was so good seeing your Mum give you a big hug near the end, what a darling! :) Brilliant song choice, thanks guys.
Don’t feel bad baby girl because I’ve been listening to this song for years and years and years and it still makes me shed tears every time I listen to it.
This is the first time ive heard this song since my own mother passed away last October. It brought up so many memories and feelings i wasnt ready for. Pink Floyd never fails to bring out emotion in people.
My mother passed away, recently, too. She was suffering from increasing dementia before she died. This song and video makes me think of her: ua-cam.com/video/61_qsDeuFu8/v-deo.html
the song is very deep, and the story is about how the Mother of the protaganist of the album protected "baby" yet at the same time laid the foundation of the "wall" that the protagonist further developed and struggles to get beyond. "Mother, did it need to be so high?"
Feeling the music is what it's all about. You should do their song, "On the Turning Away". Another "feels" song. And I love your mom! She is so cool! ❤️
Pink Floyd are just the best, I’m in my 60s (past the middle) lol, I’ve grown up with this group. I still listen to them on a daily basis, coffee and the Floyd are my drugs, Mother is a beautiful song, it gets to a lot of people and makes them emotional, including me. Glad you all enjoyed it. Kind regards from Scotland 🏴
Pink Floyd is my all-time favorite band. So good to see reactions to these songs and the emotions that come with it. I really enjoy your channel and reactions. Thumbs up for Lex's mom, too!
When I was a younger man, and my brain sickness more acute, Pink Floyd would overwhelm me. Upon hearing them I experienced anxiety and nausea. Now, older (and better?), I no longer feel that way. I am however overcome by the beauty of their music, and with the help of channels like these, I better understand the poetry of their words.
Watching them and seeing how they both reacted to the song makes me glad that they didn't catch the true meaning of it. I think they liked it better that way.
There were two very important lines that maybe you couldn’t understand with all the music around, but when the “mother” speaks the very first time she says “Hush now baby, baby don’t you cry. Mama’s gonna make all of your NIGHTMARES come true. Mama’s gonna put all of her FEARS into you.” The whole album is about how he has a wall built around him and she provides the makings of that wall so he is unable to cope. It’s a gorgeous song, but I think that’s why it’s so incredibly sad. When they performed this live they had an actual humongous wall that they kept adding huge bricks to, until he was covered up by the end. That’s why the last words of the song our “Mother did it need to be so high?” Heartbreaking
I've been listening to Pink Floyd now since the mid-seventies. During several reaction videos I've seen how Pink Floyd will suddenly strike an emotional punch out of nowhere to those just hearing their songs for the first time and it's surprising, touching and yet reaffirming at the same time what a truly special group they were. As opposed to the typical safe wormhole most bands go down they always confronted the dark and dirty head on with a poignancy and clarity rarely found with other artists.
This was beautiful to watch. Made my day. You're the best Lex and seeing you get emotional with your mom next to you is a beautiful thing. May have shed a tear myself.
Your smiles when that guitar solo started..... MAGIC! And yes Pink Floyd make beautiful music, music from the soul, music with real meaning. Love from the UK
Well put. Just got home last night from visiting my eldest who's married and living in another country. We had our Thanksgiving there on Saturday bc of travel schedules etc., and found out my oldest 'baby' is having her first baby, and my first gandchild. All the tears and feels for my wife and I!
But you've also got see that Mother went too far. "She won't let you fly, but she might let you sing". She's smothered him and never let him really grow up
What in the actual hell. I've listened to this song for 40 years and this is the first time I've ever cried during it. Because you helped unlock the emotions behind the lyrics. Glad you all enjoy Pink Floyd

Yes, she's a lovely, genuine person...and so is Brad.
More likely, the world will change her... her mom thinks she's silly and her man doesn't understand the songs. They will make her conform. They will help her build a wall. 😢
I hope Brad realizes how lucky he is. To have a womanSo beautiful inside and out is a blessing. I love her heart
I think Lex is also lucky, Brad seems to have a very good head on his shoulders…seems like the type that will do what’s necessary and not shirk responsibility. Both seem, to me, to be beautiful souls.
Both lucky to have each other.

ESPECIALLY Mother!!
Yep every song on the wall is a chapter in Pink's life
It cannot be stated enough. The Wall is a concept album that MUST be heard from start to finish to achieve the full emotional effect. This Album is PURE GENIUS. Also your moms is awesome.
Agree. Please watch the movie Brad and Lex!
Definitely a great video, but they should have done the studio version.
I'll add that they should pretend they're listening to it on vinyl and break it up into four parts. It's a pretty intense album.
@@paulstewart6203 Why so? Both great versions

Ive truly never seen such a pure reaction before. Lex needs to be protected at all costs!
I agree Eric, and Brad has been with Lex since school
Best reaction video I've ever seen.
This shows the unconditional love of a Mom. Lex tears up and her Mom immediately comforts her.
That is not what this song is about at all
Mamas going to make all your nightmares come true
mamas going to put all her fears into you
Mamas going to keep you under her wing she won’t let you fly but she might let you sing
@@StuartGray Exactly.
C Lab is commenting on the relationship between Lex and her mom, not the song.

Imagine what else Pink Floyd could have created if they had stayed together? Such a great band👏👏👏👏👏👏
I mean, it would have been Radio KAOS with the addition of the song "On The Turning Away" :p
Waters is amazing.
To be honest, I’m glad some bands have definitive ends. So many great bands end up dragging on into mediocrity
I'm not basing this on just this one video alone as I watch them all and Lex your authenticity comes through loud and clear. pink floyd is and always will be my "desert island" band.. their music is timeless..
This. Wish You Were Here actually played in the delivery room when my Daughter was born. Fitting, for sure.
I could spend a lifetime on a desert island wondering if I would rather have Pink Floyd or the Beatles.
Lex gonna make everyone cry again 🤣 I love how deeply she feels music 🥰
This concert with Roger Waters is best. Yes , Pink Floyd will make you feel it. The Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot get's me also.
Me too man. Love that song as well.
Gorgon Lightfoot is Yooper approved.
Yeah, they gotta react to The Wreck of Edmund Fitzgerald if they haven't.
The radio station I listen to keeps playing a cover of The Edmund Fitzgerald by a group named Headstones. They sing it with no emotion at all, almost like they lost a bet and are trying to get it over with as soon as possible.
I love the look on Lex's face on the verse "Momm's going to find out where you've been". Priceless!
Peace and love to all
@@fzarro9947 She almost never misses the point. But a few lines is all that's needed for emotions pushing away the context.
She misdirects, "I was not ready for this." "It's so beautiful." "It's so honest."
Then the "you'll always be a baby to me" with the hug and nervous laughter followed by over dramatic applause and rambling about serial killers is the ultimate misdirect- she needs to get out of her feelings.....what better than a serial killer?
Pink Floyd has moved me and many of us to tears. What an incredible group of musicians. What and where would we be without them?
Lex's reaction and understanding of the song proves that we can hear the same song and take completely different things from it. In the context of the album, The Wall, this song is about an overbearing mother, not a nurturing. loving mother.
Reminds me of "She's Leaving Home" by The Beatles. Parents not knowing or understanding how their version of love suffocated their child.
Yeah, she causes a lot of his mental issues, drug use and relationships that are toxic in his adult life.
HITMIX HYEPOCK I absolutely love this album, certainly the mother could have gone about it a different way but I think she wanted to protect from the harsh realities of having lived through a war he didn't understand and a father he never knew.
Damn well said!!!!
It's funny that you had to mention Toto here, as it is Jeff Porcaro himself who plays the drum part for this very song on the original Wall record.

Listening closely to the lyrics is crucial in unraveling the mystery of this deep concept album.
this is very true. i love the wall. but the beauty of this song in particular is you don't need to know the context to appreciate the different meanings. it's clearly about good intentions...but do people focus on the thought that should count or the limitations and the "bad" that good intentions bring to the table..(more often than not). people can see the good, the bad, and/or the ugly or a combination of it. that's the beauty of this song. it doesn't have to be about any one thing.

You feel it in every corner of your heart and mind. I recommend listening to Southampton Dock/The final cut from the 1982 album "The final cut". My personal favourite Pink Floyd song.
Will there ever be a band as emotionally connected to their music. Mind blowing. Good Lex felt it, bless!!
I was there. They had some audio issues in the beginning but was amazing over all. I lived in Berlin at the time and I still have the concert ticket.
@@triple9silver203 very cool thanks
I have the emotions of a rock. And yet I cried when Lexy cried... She was just so appreciative of her wonderful mom. Bravo to mom
Wish You Were Here always hits me hard.
Great analogy. Hits me the identical way. Floyd puts us in a deep thinking 🤔 mind. Fender made the guitar. God made David Gilmore to play it. HELLO from Orlando, Florida. 😜🐊🌞🌴👌
OMG Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Is just so sad. I always think about Syd Barrett when I listen to it.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 That’s the opposite of what the song is about though!!! 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
@@fzarro9947 It depends
Don’t feel bad baby girl because I’ve been listening to this song for years and years and years and it still makes me shed tears every time I listen to it.
It does this old man's heart good to see a younger generation discover the beauty and magic of Pink Floyd. Love to you.
This song is an emotional one. And David Gilmour's guitar has been known to make grown men and gods weep.
Im so sorry, time is a cruel cruel mistres…
Absolutely wonderful to see someone really show her feelings. Good for you!
the song is very deep, and the story is about how the Mother of the protaganist of the album protected "baby" yet at the same time laid the foundation of the "wall" that the protagonist further developed and struggles to get beyond. "Mother, did it need to be so high?"
Feeling the music is what it's all about. You should do their song, "On the Turning Away". Another "feels" song.
And I love your mom! She is so cool! ❤️
Lexi, your reaction was so emotional! My father passed when I was 5 so this song means so much to me!
Mom did everything this song was about!
Love watching you guys. Lex the love and bond I'm seeing with your Mom is Beautiful!
Floyd brings it out of you. Thats the power of the band. Best band ever!
I cried, when she cried. Thank you so much. So pure and honest. As the music and lyrics. Cheers !!!
Lex, you are such a beautiful soul. Thanks for the video.
Lex is such a music lover. She really gets into it, which I can totally relate too.
This was beautiful to watch. Made my day. You're the best Lex and seeing you get emotional with your mom next to you is a beautiful thing. May have shed a tear myself.
I love the song. But more than that I could see your beautiful souls on your beautiful faces. Peace Be With You!
Your smiles when that guitar solo started..... MAGIC!
And yes Pink Floyd make beautiful music, music from the soul, music with real meaning.
Love from the UK
Music from the soul, FOR the soul.
"You'll always be baby to me."
Those who have kids will understand that line 100%.
Lex, give mom a giant hug...often.
Well put. Just got home last night from visiting my eldest who's married and living in another country. We had our Thanksgiving there on Saturday bc of travel schedules etc., and found out my oldest 'baby' is having her first baby, and my first gandchild. All the tears and feels for my wife and I!
I wish I could still give my mom a hug. I would never let her go.
@@TheGreatGig73 same. My mom died in the mid 70s when I was 3
But you've also got see that Mother went too far. "She won't let you fly, but she might let you sing". She's smothered him and never let him really grow up
Lex such a.lovely soul pass that on to your child
What in the actual hell. I've listened to this song for 40 years and this is the first time I've ever cried during it. Because you helped unlock the emotions behind the lyrics. Glad you all enjoy Pink Floyd
