My main issue with Game Sonic’s current design is that today, he looks pretty vanilla and standard. The people who were still alive after Perfect Chaos destroyed Station Square witnessed Sonic turn into his super form, so not only could they have come to the conclusion that Shadow is just another form for Sonic, but his quills being designed like Super Sonic’s from Adventure 1 further justifies people mistaking him for Sonic. If you take issue with the fact that changing Super Sonic’s design back to his Adventure 1 and 2 counterparts would make him look more or less like a clone of Super Shadow, then Super Shadow’s design needs to be changed too. It needs to go back to his Adventure 2 counterpart. In that game, Shadow’s super form was a cream color that was so distinctly different from the color of Sonic’s super form, which is golden-yellow like Super Saiyan.

Oddly enough the scene with the Flash in Zack Snyder's Justice League where he saves everyone feels MUCH more in spirit of Sonic the Hedgehog compared to his actual scores for the film, which is passable kid movie fluff. I really hope they turn up the quality in Sonic 3 with more memorable tunes.

The movies were a great adaptation, in fact in my personal opinion, there better products then a lot of the recent games, apart from Frontiers and Mania, for me they are the only two games in the past few years I can actually call good.

In terms of characterization Movie Sonic is alot more heroic and responsible, determined and would do anything to protect his friends and love ones since his backstory was him losing a family, and would later gain another thanks to his time on earth, his more emotional and cares alot for others. He would even become a vigilante known as Blue justice which makes him more heroic Game sonic( I'm using his characterization based on sonic and the black knight) is cocky, confident, and adventurous and actually fights for only what he believes in, As he says.... 'I don't mind being the bad guy once in a while". Meaning he doesn't see himself as a hero but does what he thinks is right
I appreciate them for not making Knuckles stupid. He *WAS* manipulated by Eggman but that's also because was he looking for the emerald as well anyway.
I'd personally give the "design" point to Game Sonic, but I can see your points. One day I'd love for Sonic's in-game model to just _become_ the Marza CGI model, but as long as Sega has to scale-down for Nintendo systems, that's not happening anytime soon
With the Mario Movie, I'm concerned that they will try to jam so much fan service into it and forget about writing a good story. Not that having fan service in a movie is bad, but it's Illumination, so they might use the stuff to just pad the run time
It looks like that might be what they are doing. It's kinda like a world of warcraft movie situation, where there is so much fanservice that it makes people who are unfamiliar with the IP confused. Filmento has a detailed explanation about this in his vid on sonic one.

I hope I'm wrong, because I do perfer Mario over Sonic, but I'm not acting like it will be good just because of all the Mario stuff (like was Mario Kart really necessary?). I'd like to see if there are design tweaks for the next mainline game. The clear priority for Frontiers was to clean up the gameplay and set a standard going forward. With that taken care of, they could very well move their focus back onto design, both for the Zones and for Sonic himself.
The Sonic movie works excellently as a different but very familiar take on these characters. I just wish it had the balls of making a live action sonic movie instead of a live action movie with sonic elements in it.

For the design point, I dont think the proportions really should make it harder for Sonic to be expressive imo. Fan animations have shown they can def make his current game model super expressive. I’d even point to the original Riders where the proportions are even more exaggerated, it had expressive animation as well. Prime as well! Though my favorite design is Heroes and I wish they’d go back to something like that again. I think what they really need is just a different rig or whatever lets you mess with the model to make it move
In my opinion, Movie Sonic doesn't really represent Sonic that well in areas you said otherwise. Sonic is known for his edge and attitude, and I don't think Movie Sonic does that part of Sonic well. Movie Sonic's design is very fluffy and soft looking with rounded off quills, the changes by making his eyes separate and with bigger pupils, take away from this edge even more by making him look cuter without adding anything that gives any edge back.
I don't think that sonic movies based in the game universe would work. I feel that the only issue with the movies is how little the first has to do with the games. But the second is much more accurate and seeing how future games will be more based off 3d games with more indepht stories giving them more to adapt and having to make up less
I think the biggest strength of the Sonic movies is that they're somewhat of a reboot and loose adaptation. They can pick and choose thirty years of stories, characters and iconography, and change them around to suit a new cohesive story without needing to worry about canon or timeline stuff.
To point things in perspective when it comes to your final point about the Mario movie being different than Sonic because the world is more important in Mario than the characters… Sonic’s universe has always been more centered around it’s characters, even in the early days of Sonic when the animated series didn’t have much to go on. Archie Sonic and SATAM was driven by the Freedom Fighters, Sonic Underground by Sonic’s family, in Sonic Adventure, it pulled from the classic games to give different characters full arcs (like Tails and how he needs to step outside Sonic’s shadow), or how in Sonic X (which largely adapted the Adventure games) the story was pushed by the escalating conflicts between Sonic and friends and Eggman. Sonic as a franchise has been more carried by it’s characters than it’s world for ages. That is why the Sonic movies doesn’t really need to do what Mario is doing and make the movie feel more like a 1 to 1 of the games. Sure, Sonic COULD probably pull that off… but at the end of the day what makes Sonic as a series special is the characters that push the story forward. Especially Sonic himself, as someone who, in the games, represents freedom… and in the movies is a rising hero learning to become the person he was meant to be.
I’ve noticed lately how people are starting to look back on the Sonic Movies with more negativity since the Mario Movie seems to be more faithful and is animated. Ultimately though, I don’t think it’s really fair to compare the Mario Movie to the Sonic Movies since the Mario Movie isn’t even out yet (at the time of me writing this), and both go for different things. The Mario Movie seems to be trying to be faithful to the games where the Sonic Movies want to do their own thing while also using elements from the games. At the end of the day, you can like both the Mario and Sonic Movies. You don’t have to disown one for the other. At least these are my thoughts. As for whether I prefer Movie Sonic over Game Sonic, I can’t really say. Game Sonic has been a huge part of my childhood, but Movie Sonic is a fresh take on the character I really like. I think both have great designs too.
This may be a controversial opinion, but I wouldn't mind game Sonic taking on the appearance of movie Sonic. Or maybe taking some design aspects from him and incorporating them into his design.
They already took the lighting effect from the movie in Frontiers, and I hate it since Sonic's thing has always been wind since SA2 with moves like Sonic Wind, Sonic Boom, hell his theme in Black Knight is Knight of the Wind

Music might be Movie Sonic's biggest downfall. Never mind the fact that there is minimal representation from the games. The music in the movies just isn't relevant at all, with most of it just generic orchestra used to fill the void. The end credits have their fans, but even those can't stand up to what we've gotten from the games. (Stanger in Moscow, anyone?) If you want a good example of orchestral music that complements the story, look no further than Sonic Frontiers. The BGM for Frontiers evolves and changes as Sonic progresses, and more importantly, it captures the tone of what's going on in the game. It actually adapts WITH the game, and that’s not even mentioning the EDM music in Cyberspace and the Hard Metal used in the boss fights. It makes you wonder how such an amazing soundtrack didn't even get nominated for the Game Awards.
Instead of trying to “stay faithful” or keep Sonic static, they decide to use this blank canvass that is the movies as a way to experiment with Sonic’s character and change him. Without the movie, Sonic Prime wouldn’t have the presence of Sonic’s character arc

11:46 The only difference I could spot between the first and second movie is that the 1st Sonic has the classic quill arrangement, however, the 2nd movie Sonic has Lost World quill arrangement with an extra quill, same for the back quills. It's more noticeable in Super sonic's shots.
Personally I agree that game sonic could use a redesign especially with the way frontiers is going although in my personal opinion I think Sega should maybe take some inspiration from movie sonic primarily to fix his proportions but maybe also take some of that inspiration to maybe make game sonic look a little bit older such as the extra quills fixing his height making a bit taller changing his shoes a bit though I'd still say keep them the way and possibly start to see some fur growing on his upper arms maybe, but like I said this my personal opinion
100% agree with design category. As for personality sonic frontiers character emotion feels balanced depending how sonic deal a tragic moment when given his friends on how to move on and live life to the fullest plus his story ends when he stop running.
One thing I like about movie Sonics design is that it looks like they took Sonics unique features and switched them to the features knuckles and tails have they look uniform when together.
As for the point about Sonic's strength, it's important to remember that the scene of Sonic punching the bald guy and failing happens early on. Every other example of Sonic fighting well happens AFTER he learns to control his supercharged form, which likely enhances his strength. Even Knuckles, who's clearly strong without using those powers, seems to be considerably more powerful while channeling that energy.
The only thing I'd have to fight you on is the score for the sonic movies. Wholeheartedly agree that the tracks are nowhere close to the iconic music of the games, but they serve their purpose nonetheless. The warm and emotional scenes are cushioned nicely with the score, the action scenes have that sort of synth style going on that calls back to the old school game era. The point absolutely goes to game Sonic, but I think the movie OSTs deserve a little credit too. All up, great video. I sense a lot of love to both iterations and it reflects how I feel about them both as well!
The Sonic movies sort of come off to me as a BETTER version of Sonic X. Both involve Sonic coming to Earth as an alien and befriending a human, though I think the story was told better through Tom/Donut Lord. Chris felt shoved into the story and became too dependent on Sonic. The story realizes Sonic is a teenager who didn't have the same emotional support as his video game persona, and Tom ultimately becomes a mentor and father to Sonic. It's a new and creative take on Sonic that I REALLY liked. Plus, I loved how Robotnik has more of a backstory and method to his madness, eventually transforming into the iconic nemesis of the Blue Blur. I did not expect something that started off as Ugly Sonic turn out to be written so damn well.
Should have done another category of lore. Apart from Sonic's individual origin, the explanation of the chaos emeralds and rework of Knuckles' duty as protector of the master emerald to the entire team being the protectors was genius. I wasn't a huge fan of everyone just generally being an alien though, because why is every alien consistently anthropomorphic? lol
The thing about sonic beging like a cool rad 90s dude isn't at all how his original character was. That was something that the american team made part of him but the original version of sonic was that he was all about freedom and doing what he wants and thats even how he was discribed in origins. Also in the original version of sonic adventure he is nothing like how he is in the english version but in sa2 he started to have more of his american personality in him becouse of the writer of that game Shiro Mikawa wanting to change the sonic series and thats why sonic is way more sassy in sa2 and black knight since mikawa wrote those games.

In terms of character I think you should ignore the meta era. Those guys did not know how to write Sonic. I'd say anything prior to that is better. Cuz there is no issue too big for Sonic. When someone asks for his help, he gives it. That's been one consistent trait in all his games I think you missed. Also SATBK and SATSR. Has game Sonic written at his best tbh. He's even okay playing the bad guy if it means saving others.
I am glad the Sonic movies went the way they did because I love the movie versions of the characters a lot (very close to as much as the game versions in fact (when those versions are written well)) and the new ones made for the movies like Tom, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t interested to know how a Sonic movie that’s either in the game world like the Ratchet and Clank movie (I think) or a world very similar to it like the Mario movie could’ve gone especially if the team behind the movie still gave the effort that Paramount did

It doesn't feel like you're giving game Sonic enough credit: yes the 2010's have been disastrous on his character in almost every aspect, but Frontiers has had him take so many steps forward in those same aspects. There's quite a few things you didn't mention from that game. As far as I'm concerned Frontiers Sonic is just simply world's apart from his 2010 counterpart.

I wonder if people wishing for a more faithful adaptation of Sonic stem from their personal attachments to a specific era of Sonic. With the Mario movie having a whimsical and bright look to it, it makes the Sonic films seem "duller" in their opinion because they don't want to see the real world. It's a unique opinion I've stumbled in some discussions where some people don't want realism, they want to be taken to a land that is so detached from our own. The bright colors from those classic games spark that creativity and wonder for those people. That being said, there is also another side to the conversation involving realism and Sonic. Some people who grew up with the games in the 2000s seem to appreciate the more realistic and detailed locations and were happy with the series returning to this artistic style in Frontiers. Long story short, as mentioned in the video, Sonic isn't as consistent as Mario. I believe an animated version of the Sonic film may not sit well with some people but will for others.
If I were to separate Games and Movies, then I concur that then movie’s adaption of Sonic isn’t necessarily bad. He is a children’s mascot even if the ‘everyone’ angle isn’t always valid. In which case, trying to make a fictional character that is known to be another to be relatable to the audience is a case by case basis. The idea of movie Sonic being too nice or too childish is only applied on how this era views him, so it’s a interesting take. Now on the games side, Sega has a habit of applying whatever makes the most attention into their games, hence Classic Sonic, the classic elements, movie Sonic aura, memes in stories, etc. I don’t have a straight answer persay, but I think there’s nothing wrong in applying a nod to the side content as long it doesn’t undermine the game’s intention(Werehog being an example). I guess what I’m saying is, there’s nothing wrong with an adaption when done right, but defers on an IP basis. I hope that doesn’t sound too confusing.

I've seen people think that sonic 3 will be the last sonic movie but I strongly disagree against that. People have these thoughts because they just can't see how the story will continue. And cause movies barely ever get past a trilogy. But I HAVE A SOLUTION. What if- this is just the prologue of the sonic movie verse. In Sonic 1, we are introduced to sonic and earth, in Sonic 2, we are introduced to his family and the brothers' dynamic. And in sonic 3, we're officially introduced to the main sonic cast, sonic, tails, knuckles, rouge, Amy, and shadow. I think after this, we've spent way too much time on earth, and the main sonic cast needs some chill out time. Because at this point I think it might get stale seeing the same cast of characters over and over again without finding out more about the rest of the universe. They've confirmed with the prequill comic And tails and knuckles, that theres entire worlds with mobians And (in the intro of sonic 2 with eggman) humanoid beings. Don't you want to reach out and see what's beyond earth? Are there other planets that have mobian and human inhabitants living together? What history do these distant planets have? So I suggest...in the next movie... We start out in a completely new environment, on a distant planet. Specifically: crisis city, Silver's home planet and The Sol Empire, blaze's kingdom. And! have humans living on these different planets, living alongside mobians! Is there any animosity between the two races? What makes mobian planet humans and earth humans different? This could be a really interesting world to create! And would compromise the sonic fandom's need to see more of sonic's world, and including humans. Or should I say Overlanders? (That's what they call humans who live alongside mobians in the archie comics and would be a nice reference!!!!) But anyway. I propose in the 4th installment of the sonic movie franchise, it will center around blaze and silver. In the mobian world. Alongside overlanders. Far away from earth. And they could make a far more interesting story, with mephiles instead of eggman! Because Jim Carrey might need a break as well. TELL ME YOUR THOUGHTS. Didn't the novelization (or maybe one of the companion comics) of one of the movies explicitly say the electricity and power boost is due to chaos energy? And it took til the end of the first movie for him to gain control of it.
I like both versions of Sonic and I bet this is how Game Sonic started out in his past no Classic Sonic included because I bet Sonic looks better with green eyes and this is possibly the way he started out before becoming the hero he's known as.
My one issue with game sonic is the arms. If game sonic had more detail like showing fur detail instead of the plastic look then the tan arms would be good. But the way it is it looks to weird, is his stomach and mouth bare as well. Movie sonic looks good with the all blue and so does boom with the blue arms showing it looks good no matter the detail
The problem is have with movie sonic is that unlike game sonic who is more mature and stuff, movie sonic has the role of tails and tom has the role of game sonic, giving movie tails not much of an interesting backstory as his game counter part, in the games sonic is someone to look up to but in the movies sonic looks up to others and tom, and the one whos supposed to be relatable is game tails cause he is the one who has more problems and less confidence like us so he looks up to sonic and inspire us to believe in our selfs, but that role is now movie sonics role, so what is tails role in the movies then?

Movie Sonic was playing around with the Thug. He in the second movie he knocked out thugs with a drop kick and in the comic he beat them in H2H combat using combat experience.
i enjoyed the sonic movie but i won't lie when i say that it wasn't exactly what i wanted from a sonic movie i think what i would've wanted from a sonic movie is if it was an animated adaptation of the first game but with a more modern sonic and action anime feel to it. while do prefer game sonic i still get plenty of enjoyment out of movie sonic.
Nah the Mario is a bit more based on the Super Show and Luigi is based on how my old college pal Luke would voice Luigi. That's just the voice that I hear when I think Luigi now.

Game sonic has always had an official birth place and its an island called christmas island. South island is just were sonic 1 took place and sega has never said that he was born on south island. The reason game sonic was on south island was becouse hes always exploring the world.
The music and songs that were used in the first and second Sonic movies were definately wrong choices. (I do agree that "Stars in the sky" is an enjoyable song,) They might not make that mistake in Sonic 3 though, mostly because of how much of a worldwide demand there currently is for songs from Crush 40 to be in that movie, (espcially Live and learn,) the producers being very aware of that, the fact that the lead singer of that rock band revealed in an interview video that they want to be soundtracking that movie, and that the idea of that happening hasn't been ruled out by the people at Paramount.

I think one of the best bits of music to come out of the films is Robotnik's theme. It's actually very fitting for his character.

Movie Sonic is alot more heroic and responsible, determined and would do anything to protect his friends and love ones since his backstory was him losing a family, and would later gain another thanks to his time on earth, his more emotional and cares alot for others. He would even become a vigilante known as Blue justice which makes him more heroic
Game sonic( I'm using his characterization based on sonic and the black knight) is cocky, confident, and adventurous and actually fights for only what he believes in, As he says.... 'I don't mind being the bad guy once in a while". Meaning he doesn't see himself as a hero but does what he thinks is right

With the Mario Movie, I'm concerned that they will try to jam so much fan service into it and forget about writing a good story. Not that having fan service in a movie is bad, but it's Illumination, so they might use the stuff to just pad the run time
It looks like that might be what they are doing. It's kinda like a world of warcraft movie situation, where there is so much fanservice that it makes people who are unfamiliar with the IP confused. Filmento has a detailed explanation about this in his vid on sonic one.

I love the movie decision to replicate the "monoeye" by putting white fur on the bridge of his muzzle, it looks so adorable.
I'd like to see if there are design tweaks for the next mainline game. The clear priority for Frontiers was to clean up the gameplay and set a standard going forward. With that taken care of, they could very well move their focus back onto design, both for the Zones and for Sonic himself.
Frontiers already started that with Sonic’s blue energy. ;)
The Sonic movie works excellently as a different but very familiar take on these characters. I just wish it had the balls of making a live action sonic movie instead of a live action movie with sonic elements in it.

For the design point, I dont think the proportions really should make it harder for Sonic to be expressive imo. Fan animations have shown they can def make his current game model super expressive. I’d even point to the original Riders where the proportions are even more exaggerated, it had expressive animation as well. Prime as well! Though my favorite design is Heroes and I wish they’d go back to something like that again. I think what they really need is just a different rig or whatever lets you mess with the model to make it move

In my opinion, Movie Sonic doesn't really represent Sonic that well in areas you said otherwise. Sonic is known for his edge and attitude, and I don't think Movie Sonic does that part of Sonic well. Movie Sonic's design is very fluffy and soft looking with rounded off quills, the changes by making his eyes separate and with bigger pupils, take away from this edge even more by making him look cuter without adding anything that gives any edge back.
I don't think that sonic movies based in the game universe would work. I feel that the only issue with the movies is how little the first has to do with the games. But the second is much more accurate and seeing how future games will be more based off 3d games with more indepht stories giving them more to adapt and having to make up less
In terms of right now, Game Sonic is like an older, more experienced Sonic while Movie Sonic is the younger, less experienced one.
I think the biggest strength of the Sonic movies is that they're somewhat of a reboot and loose adaptation. They can pick and choose thirty years of stories, characters and iconography, and change them around to suit a new cohesive story without needing to worry about canon or timeline stuff.

To point things in perspective when it comes to your final point about the Mario movie being different than Sonic because the world is more important in Mario than the characters… Sonic’s universe has always been more centered around it’s characters, even in the early days of Sonic when the animated series didn’t have much to go on. Archie Sonic and SATAM was driven by the Freedom Fighters, Sonic Underground by Sonic’s family, in Sonic Adventure, it pulled from the classic games to give different characters full arcs (like Tails and how he needs to step outside Sonic’s shadow), or how in Sonic X (which largely adapted the Adventure games) the story was pushed by the escalating conflicts between Sonic and friends and Eggman. Sonic as a franchise has been more carried by it’s characters than it’s world for ages. That is why the Sonic movies doesn’t really need to do what Mario is doing and make the movie feel more like a 1 to 1 of the games. Sure, Sonic COULD probably pull that off… but at the end of the day what makes Sonic as a series special is the characters that push the story forward. Especially Sonic himself, as someone who, in the games, represents freedom… and in the movies is a rising hero learning to become the person he was meant to be.
I’ve noticed lately how people are starting to look back on the Sonic Movies with more negativity since the Mario Movie seems to be more faithful and is animated. Ultimately though, I don’t think it’s really fair to compare the Mario Movie to the Sonic Movies since the Mario Movie isn’t even out yet (at the time of me writing this), and both go for different things. The Mario Movie seems to be trying to be faithful to the games where the Sonic Movies want to do their own thing while also using elements from the games. At the end of the day, you can like both the Mario and Sonic Movies. You don’t have to disown one for the other. At least these are my thoughts.
As for whether I prefer Movie Sonic over Game Sonic, I can’t really say. Game Sonic has been a huge part of my childhood, but Movie Sonic is a fresh take on the character I really like. I think both have great designs too.

Music might be Movie Sonic's biggest downfall. Never mind the fact that there is minimal representation from the games. The music in the movies just isn't relevant at all, with most of it just generic orchestra used to fill the void. The end credits have their fans, but even those can't stand up to what we've gotten from the games. (Stanger in Moscow, anyone?)
If you want a good example of orchestral music that complements the story, look no further than Sonic Frontiers. The BGM for Frontiers evolves and changes as Sonic progresses, and more importantly, it captures the tone of what's going on in the game. It actually adapts WITH the game, and that’s not even mentioning the EDM music in Cyberspace and the Hard Metal used in the boss fights. It makes you wonder how such an amazing soundtrack didn't even get nominated for the Game Awards.
Instead of trying to “stay faithful” or keep Sonic static, they decide to use this blank canvass that is the movies as a way to experiment with Sonic’s character and change him. Without the movie, Sonic Prime wouldn’t have the presence of Sonic’s character arc

The only difference I could spot between the first and second movie is that the 1st Sonic has the classic quill arrangement, however, the 2nd movie Sonic has Lost World quill arrangement with an extra quill, same for the back quills. It's more noticeable in Super sonic's shots.
Personally I agree that game sonic could use a redesign especially with the way frontiers is going although in my personal opinion I think Sega should maybe take some inspiration from movie sonic primarily to fix his proportions but maybe also take some of that inspiration to maybe make game sonic look a little bit older such as the extra quills fixing his height making a bit taller changing his shoes a bit though I'd still say keep them the way and possibly start to see some fur growing on his upper arms maybe, but like I said this my personal opinion
100% agree with design category. As for personality sonic frontiers character emotion feels balanced depending how sonic deal a tragic moment when given his friends on how to move on and live life to the fullest plus his story ends when he stop running.
For the record, sonic does have 2 eyes, there's just no distance between them.

One thing I like about movie Sonics design is that it looks like they took Sonics unique features and switched them to the features knuckles and tails have they look uniform when together.
As for the point about Sonic's strength, it's important to remember that the scene of Sonic punching the bald guy and failing happens early on. Every other example of Sonic fighting well happens AFTER he learns to control his supercharged form, which likely enhances his strength.
Even Knuckles, who's clearly strong without using those powers, seems to be considerably more powerful while channeling that energy.
The only thing I'd have to fight you on is the score for the sonic movies. Wholeheartedly agree that the tracks are nowhere close to the iconic music of the games, but they serve their purpose nonetheless. The warm and emotional scenes are cushioned nicely with the score, the action scenes have that sort of synth style going on that calls back to the old school game era. The point absolutely goes to game Sonic, but I think the movie OSTs deserve a little credit too.
All up, great video. I sense a lot of love to both iterations and it reflects how I feel about them both as well!
The Sonic movies sort of come off to me as a BETTER version of Sonic X. Both involve Sonic coming to Earth as an alien and befriending a human, though I think the story was told better through Tom/Donut Lord. Chris felt shoved into the story and became too dependent on Sonic. The story realizes Sonic is a teenager who didn't have the same emotional support as his video game persona, and Tom ultimately becomes a mentor and father to Sonic. It's a new and creative take on Sonic that I REALLY liked. Plus, I loved how Robotnik has more of a backstory and method to his madness, eventually transforming into the iconic nemesis of the Blue Blur.
I did not expect something that started off as Ugly Sonic turn out to be written so damn well.

Apart from Sonic's individual origin, the explanation of the chaos emeralds and rework of Knuckles' duty as protector of the master emerald to the entire team being the protectors was genius. The thing about sonic beging like a cool rad 90s dude isn't at all how his original character was. That was something that the american team made part of him but the original version of sonic was that he was all about freedom and doing what he wants and thats even how he was discribed in origins. Also in the original version of sonic adventure he is nothing like how he is in the english version but in sa2 he started to have more of his american personality in him becouse of the writer of that game Shiro Mikawa wanting to change the sonic series and thats why sonic is way more sassy in sa2 and black knight since mikawa wrote those games.
Also mikawa is the one that came up with knuckles beging a tresure hunter and tails beging a scientict instead of just begin a tinkerer.

It doesn't feel like you're giving game Sonic enough credit: yes the 2010's have been disastrous on his character in almost every aspect, but Frontiers has had him take so many steps forward in those same aspects. There's quite a few things you didn't mention from that game. As far as I'm concerned Frontiers Sonic is just simply world's apart from his 2010 counterpart.

I wonder if people wishing for a more faithful adaptation of Sonic stem from their personal attachments to a specific era of Sonic. With the Mario movie having a whimsical and bright look to it, it makes the Sonic films seem "duller" in their opinion because they don't want to see the real world. It's a unique opinion I've stumbled in some discussions where some people don't want realism, they want to be taken to a land that is so detached from our own. The bright colors from those classic games spark that creativity and wonder for those people. That being said, there is also another side to the conversation involving realism and Sonic. Some people who grew up with the games in the 2000s seem to appreciate the more realistic and detailed locations and were happy with the series returning to this artistic style in Frontiers.
Long story short, as mentioned in the video, Sonic isn't as consistent as Mario. I believe an animated version of the Sonic film may not sit well with some people but will for others.
If I were to separate Games and Movies, then I concur that then movie’s adaption of Sonic isn’t necessarily bad. He is a children’s mascot even if the ‘everyone’ angle isn’t always valid. In which case, trying to make a fictional character that is known to be another to be relatable to the audience is a case by case basis.
The idea of movie Sonic being too nice or too childish is only applied on how this era views him, so it’s a interesting take. Now on the games side, Sega has a habit of applying whatever makes the most attention into their games, hence Classic Sonic, the classic elements, movie Sonic aura, memes in stories, etc. I don’t have a straight answer persay, but I think there’s nothing wrong in applying a nod to the side content as long it doesn’t undermine the game’s intention(Werehog being an example).
I guess what I’m saying is, there’s nothing wrong with an adaption when done right, but defers on an IP basis. I hope that doesn’t sound too confusing.

I've seen people think that sonic 3 will be the last sonic movie but I strongly disagree against that. People have these thoughts because they just can't see how the story will continue. And cause movies barely ever get past a trilogy. But I HAVE A SOLUTION.
What if- this is just the prologue of the sonic movie verse. In Sonic 1, we are introduced to sonic and earth, in Sonic 2, we are introduced to his family and the brothers' dynamic. And in sonic 3, we're officially introduced to the main sonic cast, sonic, tails, knuckles, rouge, Amy, and shadow.
I think after this, we've spent way too much time on earth, and the main sonic cast needs some chill out time. Because at this point I think it might get stale seeing the same cast of characters over and over again without finding out more about the rest of the universe.
They've confirmed with the prequill comic And tails and knuckles, that theres entire worlds with mobians And (in the intro of sonic 2 with eggman) humanoid beings. Don't you want to reach out and see what's beyond earth? Are there other planets that have mobian and human inhabitants living together? What history do these distant planets have?
So I suggest...in the next movie... We start out in a completely new environment, on a distant planet. Specifically: crisis city, Silver's home planet and The Sol Empire, blaze's kingdom. And! have humans living on these different planets, living alongside mobians! Is there any animosity between the two races? What makes mobian planet humans and earth humans different?
This could be a really interesting world to create! And would compromise the sonic fandom's need to see more of sonic's world, and including humans. Or should I say Overlanders? (That's what they call humans who live alongside mobians in the archie comics and would be a nice reference!!!!)
But anyway. I propose in the 4th installment of the sonic movie franchise, it will center around blaze and silver. In the mobian world. Alongside overlanders. Far away from earth.
And they could make a far more interesting story, with mephiles instead of eggman! Because Jim Carrey might need a break as well.

My one issue with game sonic is the arms. If game sonic had more detail like showing fur detail instead of the plastic look then the tan arms would be good. Don't get me wrong, I love both but....I prefer the game version. At least from his more mature depictions. It's not really fair to compare them when both iterations are different takes on his character completely.
BTW......Sonic is not from South Island. He's officially from Christmas Island.

Game sonic has always had an official birth place and its an island called christmas island. South island is just were sonic 1 took place and sega has never said that he was born on south island. The reason game sonic was on south island was becouse hes always exploring the world.

The music and songs that were used in the first and second Sonic movies were definately wrong choices. (I do agree that "Stars in the sky" is an enjoyable song,) They might not make that mistake in Sonic 3 though, mostly because of how much of a worldwide demand there currently is for songs from Crush 40 to be in that movie, (espcially Live and learn,) the producers being very aware of that, the fact that the lead singer of that rock band revealed in an interview video that they want to be soundtracking that movie, and that the idea of that happening hasn't been ruled out by the people at Paramount.
to be honest I was a little disappointed when I saw the trailer for the Mario movie
I like video game movies to do an adaptation, not just copy and paste the source material
If you want a Mario Movie that isn't a copy and paste, then go to see the 1993 movie.
