The sad thing is Despicable Me was derived from a pretty good concept/basis, it just unfortunately fell victim to toilet humour and overmarketing of minions etc 😭 milked tf out of it. I hate it when greed ruins a good idea. Megamind certainly felt deserving of a quality franchise

Megamind 2: Cowers in terror around a handful of clowns.
Megamind was a god level threat in the 1st movie, literally creating titan so he has someone to fight. They should instead have made a spinoff that focuses on a less central/powerful character. They could even have made a show about his home planet before it got destroyed. But no, it ended up being a show that only kids who cant write yet would watch.
@@MrCool-lo3lsI feel like if they wanted to make something easy, rather than make his opponents villains, make them heroes from other cities who he now needs to prove to that he’s actually gone straight and this isn’t just another extremely-elaborate plot to conquer the world. That way it could’ve expanded the world while not completely ruining what happened in the first movie. If the writers were good, they could expand on the “proving yourself to others or accepting yourself regardless of others” angle.
More heroes would also be cool, and it could lead to new cities as new settings for a show, maybe have an episode where he has to help a different city.
I’m not a writer though so this could totally be just as shitty.

Fun fact: the Doom Syndicate were actually characters scrapped from the first film, but the versions for the first movie were way cooler. There was one disco villain named Psychodelic who appears in one of the Megamind video games and is voiced by KEITH DAVID. We were absolutely robbed here.

Here’s how I would make the doom syndicate an actual threat:
- lady Doppler: has full control over the surrounding air, being able to summon dust, sand, and fire storms out of practically no where, she can also manipulate electricity into a defensive or offensive weapon, she can also use the air to levitate and even fly
- behemoth: besides his obvious immense physical strength (which far surpasses that of his comrades) he can use his extreme body temperature to burn or melt almost any material, he can also harden any part of his body to become nearly invulnerable to attacks , can breath fire and spit streams of lava, and finally, any material behemoth melts, he can absorb it to grow in size, the more matter he absorbs, the more his size, strength, durability, and abilities multiply
- nighty knight: can turn into a dark mist, becoming invulnerable to physical attacks. He also has superhuman strength, speed, durability, and reflexes in his humanoid form, and from the shadows he can materialize any know bladed weapon, and mastered in the wielding of each one
- Pierre Pressure: his mind control range and effectiveness multiplies, as in he could now mind control an entire crowd of people with just a flick of his finger, and can shape shift as well
as a bonus, they're now also much more cunning and ruthless. Also, they don’t get into pointless arguments nor bombard the audience with bad jokes

*Here's how in my eyes they could have 'fixed' Megamind 2.*
*First off, make it so this isn't 2 days after the events with Tighten, have it be at minimum a couple of months.*
*Instead of having Minion changing his name because of a legal demand that is a meta joke at the minions, have it instead be the owner complaining to change his name because it is 'allegedly' confusing people, but Minion himself decides he wants a more fitting name, and then resolved by the end with him deciding 'Ol Chum' or whatever by then climax or near ending.*
*Have annoying kid, rather than be some streamer trying to film Megamind, be a kid who preferred Megamind as a villain and thought he was cooler. And wants him to go back to being a villain and tries to 'corrupt him' but grows too appreciate him better as a Hero. Could have her become Megamind's sidekick or new student(Since Minion is now his partner instead of Sidekick) or such.*
*Instead of just being an idiotic asshole, have Megamind run into a similar problem of the first film; He had no one too fight. Villains need hero's and Hero's need villains, but just because he swapped roles doesn't change he lacks a villain to fight.*
*He can still help but he finds the job boring without someone actually a threat to fight against. Could potentially end the film with him resolving to use his position as hero too help people rather than just too fight crime, use it to make Metrocity better than it was before.*
*Instead of being 'founded' by Megamind being a core member, have the Doom Syndicate be a group of villains that were inspired by Megamind and came too Metro City too convert him back into Villainy, which would make them a foil with annoying kid's new role, as they are a far more vile example of genuine villainy rather than just 'He was cooler as a villain', could give them sympathetic backstories like Megamind, give potential for redemption or just leave them in jail by end of movie as the new villains he will get to fight.*
*The idea that Megamind was considered by other villains or people to be an inspiration would show even as a villain he was popular or liked in a way.*
*Have Metro-City a bit more conflicted on Megamind compared to Metro Man, he did 'kill the guy' so it would make sense they are a bit hesitant to trust him, even if he stopped Tighten, could end with him fully being loved by the city or accepting that you can't please everybody.*
*Could do a subplot with Roxanne as without anything interesting as a reporter without a big villain to fight against the hero, news would likely decline for Metrocity, not sure how that could be resolved, but plenty of ways it could if the Doom Syndicate are now the recurring villains.*
*Have Megamind be hesitant to fight the Syndicate, not because he can't, but because he is sympathetic too their life and tries to potentially redeem them, could end either with him ultimately realising it doesn't excuse what they do(Being likely more murderous versions of him without remorse for killing, in comparison to Megamind as far as we know not intentionally ever killing anyone).*
*The closest he ever got was Metro Man and even then it doesn't count as he didn't expect him to die, nor was he actually dead). End either wanting to redeem them still or accepting them as his new enemies, giving him more excitement in life.*
*If Machiavillain actually exists, instead of a mentor to Megamind, have him be another of his race who survived the destruction of their planet(Either body destroyed or having been traveling space) which could play into a third film or whatever if it is done.*
*Alternatively, bring back Hal potentially regaining his powers and wanting revenge...*
And finally; He beats them using the f*cking dehydration gun :)
I'll fully admit, this isn't a perfect idea for how the film could have gone, as I am not a movie writer, but I feel it would have at least worked better than what we actually got.

As an addendum, what could be interesting is watching Megamind struggle to break his old habits and come into his own as a hero. So he ends up swinging between 'just normal old evil Megamind but who beats up villains instead of heroes' and 'overcompensating by aping Metroman too much'.
That would be a really interesting struggle, and as a bonus it plays into your point about the citizens of Metrocity not fully trusting Megamind yet. And it would also open the door to a whole host of gags. Here are a few that I just thought up:
→ Megamind goes shopping but forgets to pay because he's so used to stealing
→ Megamind tries to copy Metroman's mannerisms to a cringe-inducing extent
→ Metroman offers to come back anonymously as a villain so he can have a nemesis to occupy him
→ Megamind sees a cat stuck in a tree and tries to save it by blowing up the tree

How to train your dragon: Race to the edge had pretty mediocre animation but still held up the standard with the storyline and ACTUAL CONTINUITY. This absolute sin to cinematography is nothing of that.

@@Regigigas_YT its not just the story, but also the fights themselves were bad. They felt weithtless and unrealistic. In the first movie you felt every movement, imact and punch. There the mechs felt and acted like mechs with their own limitations etc. In the second movie its already unrealistic as hell how oene girl could build her own. Without even any equipment to aid her whatsoever.
There is so so many flaws in the second movie id be writing a whole novel if i were to continue.
I recommend just watching some critical videos on the second movie.
Imo it just cant compete and was a huge let down.
Fun fact: There was a Megamind video game called Megamind: Ultimate Showdown which featured the doom syndicate. So technically. Megamind vs The Doom syndicate is a video game adaptation AND a movie sequel.

For your information Schaffrillas, the reason this show and movie happend was because 2 days after I became defender of Metrocity, Minion offered me a pint of lager and I drank it. However it turns out that someone had put dangerous drugs into my drink and the next thig you know, I went on an acid trip and everything that happened on this acid trip was in both Megamind Vs The Doom Syndicate and Megamind Rules when I woke up Minion and Roxanne got me to hospital and it took me like 72 hours to recover. So stop saying this movie and show is canon. Just before I woke up the network executives who own Peacock said that they were trying to make the show and movie bad on purpose to piss off everyone who loved the original.
In conclusion, you know why this movie and show exist because the main character has explained it.

Honestly, it wouldve been a fun twist if Megamind used the dehydration gun on the Lava guy and it didn't work because there's no moisture to remove from lava. But instead, we get the portaprison.
If I got in a courtroom, and a Judge sentenced me to death, I wouldn't bat an eye. But if that Judge sentenced me to watching Megamind 2 on loop for the rest of my life, I'd get on my knees, sobbing uncontrollably, and beg for mercy.
The lack of the dehydration gun as The Obvious Solution is compounded by the fact that Megamind is downright triggerhappy with the thing in the original film, to the point where it is his *go to panic option*
And it would have been such an easy fix; just have Gale re-hydrate the villains hit by the ray or cancel out the ray itself with her mutable condensation weather every time

Yeah cause this is exactly why many were glad the movie never got a sequel. It was a self contained story about a guy’s personal growth as a person and that never needed a sequel. This movie is the embodiment of what a once dreaded megamind 2 movie would be. Cheap, shallow and clearly has no story to tell or a reason to exist.
headcanon: in between megamind: the button of doom and Megamind 2, megamind got lobotomized and now we are seeing his worldview. Minion goes along with it, and Keiko, the Doom Syndicate, and Machiavillian are all fabrications made up in his mind.

The Dehydration Gun is Schaff's version of the Bat Credit Card, or the Flash stopping to talk, or seeing an LJN logo on a game cartridge
Fun Fact: The Doom Syndicate were actually going to be in the original film but were cut, the lava guy being the only one that's directly the same as the concept art. This does mean though, that the one thing this series really took from the original, was the thing the original movie thought was bad and shouldn't be done.
The dilemma of cut content that people tend to forget. If you find a cool piece of concept art that isn't in the final product but you feel it should've been, there are three simple reasons why it isn't:
1. It didn't fit the story.
2. It distracted from the story.
3. It sucked.

Megamind not being able to figure out how to use a toaster is particularly outrageous to me since one of the very first things established in the first movie is that he's been able to take common objects and appliances and use them to create more complex stuff, HE USED HIS BINKY AS A LASER WHEN HE WAS JUST A BABY IN PRISION he not only would know how to use a toaster, he could make a weapon out of it with a screwdriver and a hammer or something, it's like the writers did the worst possible job they could do as a plea for help, as if they had them hostages (which depending on how they're paid I guess it could be right)

Megamind dehydrates himself at the end of the first film because he knew he’d fall into a water fountain which would rehydrate him.
Also he rehydrates a bunch of parents and teachers that were turned into water cubes as nursery kids.
Also in the very same shot of Megamind 2, he has no qualms dehydrating a shark which wouldn’t be very cash money of a hero if it did kill. Shark is an innocent lil guy unfortunate enough to be in a bad movie and have bad graphics.

Devil’s Advocate: There’s an argument to be made that the dehydration gun wouldn’t work, at least not against the lava monster and the knight… lava and shadows can’t really be dehydrated. If the weather lady sees it coming, she could also hypothetically hover a raincloud above herself. The only one who doesn’t really have a reasonable defence is the mime.
The kid that’s normally on the dreamworks logo wasn’t even there in the beginning. Dreamworks knew this would be a disaster.

The new Avatar: The Last Airbender Netflix series isn't perfect but it's serviceable as the only live action version of the story.
