The term MOPED means a 50cc engined machine that starts by peddling the peddles to rotate the engine until it starts, you can also use the peddles to assist up hills to compensate for the lack of horse power in the 50cc (or under) engine. motor/pedell like a Raleigh runabout, NSU quickly etc

You are definitely right about the parts situation. I live in a city apartment right next door to the dealership where I have recently bought the new ADLY GTA 50.A really cool looking two stroke 49 cc scooter. I thought that it was a good idea in the way of convenience but it has been a true nightmare. The Dealership that I bought it from is not even familiar with this newer style bike and flat out lied to me about being able to perform general maintenance, parts, etc. I can see how this would have been a way better option being how it seems more user friendly and better access to the engine for maintenance as well as keeping everything clean plus the free parking . Thanks 4 the vid.

One plus in the scooter/moped column is comfort. You typically get a flat footrest and wide seat. Other than that, I agree with your assessment.

I agree with you 100%. I love my Motorized bike. It's a fat aluminum framed 26" with 2.25 fat tires. 2 cyc, 88cc, High compression head, tuned pipe. Stock NT carb. Headlights and tail light and,of course, mirrors. Flat land 34mph. Down hills 43mph. I'm 5-11, and 176 lbs. On a bike, that's plenty fast. I drive it as if it is a ultralight motorcycle. It does handle like a bicycle, with the right tires, you can really dive into corners, at speed. I hold a State issued Drivers license, with Chauffeur and Motorcycle endorsements. I drive for a local RV Dealership. To go for a ride on my little red monster is a wonderful way to simply go out and have some fun. Great way to unwind from a work day. With the gas prices as they are. 100+ miles per gallon just can't be beat.

That's so strange! In Germany it's the other way around. You are not allowed to motorize your bike, but riding a moped is extremely easy and cheap.

They all have their own appeal. I could own both. The biggest difference is really comfort. Mopeds and Scooters just have an advantage in ergonomics that would make commuting more tolerable. But old school fun would be on a motorized bike; noisy and unrefined fun...

Omg. Thank you. I've been having this argument with my co-worker for a while. I've been working up my motorized bike piece by piece, it's almost done but I had a faulty CDI. My motorized bike in total ran me $306 for a 66/80cc engine, and the new bike to get it rated at about 40~+Mph at 100 mpg. I've been fighting with them for awhile and this one will be my first chain-driven bike. I have it outfitted with front and rear lights and plan to get the mirrors on it but I got it specifically as a float between getting any other vehicle while I try to figure out getting my proper license. People keep telling me "Oh I found this moped!" "What about this scooter?" "Have you considered an electric scooter?". Each one of those, usually runs from 6-900$, caps out at 49cc, and only really goes 20 mph if I'm lucky. Double the price, double the restriction, half the power and freedom. It would be a waste.

I really love some of your builds. Very inspirational! I hope that I would be able to make a build like yours and use it as a daily. What are some of your recommendations for basic bikes to upgrades etc. I see that your transmissions on some bikes and chains are upgrades and you have disk brakes rather than rim brakes. Is there a performance difference from disk to rim brakes?

    • @mackhogan3713
      @mackhogan3713 2 роки тому

Dudes disc or rim brakes are not a upgrade. Forget rim brakes, discs are the industry standard and have several ways to upgrade them.
Discs are best. For a great visible upgrade on here is front double disc brake. Brakes should always be more capable on a powered pushbike. IMHO if you want a powered bike especially 2 stroke &ride 2strokes the way there intended road use or track suitable brakes would be from a current professional downhill race mountain bike.

The correct term for a motorised bike (dating back for a century) is a "Cycle motor".
Cycle motor: A bicycle converted to alternative propulsion by an internal combustion motor. The earliest form of powered two wheeler and dates back over 100 years.
Moped: An extremely light motorcycle manufactured with pedal drive assist (Light pedal assist / LPA on early motorcycles) but primarily propelled by an internal combustion motor. Usually, but not always has suspension (of sorts). Usually 50cc and restricted (detuned) in some countries to between 22 MPH (Holland) and 30 MPH (Europe and some US states). Full power unrestricted mopeds require a motorcycle licence and insurance.
Sc**ter: Not actually a moped (despite similar engine capacity) but a powered two wheeled vehicles intended for women and those too wimpish to ride a proper moped, cycle motor or motorcycle. Electric versions also available Toyota Prius owners who want to venture onto two wheels but remain sanctimonious obnoxious smug gits.
Finally insurance isn't a "hastle and expense" to be avoided. It is there to take the direct financial burden should one be unfortunate be liable for an accident whilst out riding and be legally obliged to compensate the injured party / parties. Using any motor vehicle without insurance then being liable for an accident equals being in debt for the rest of one's life.

Since the first steam powered motorcycle in 1869 (Roper USA) and the more famous Gotlieb & Daimler first internal combustion motorcycle in 1883 (both predate the pedal bicycle) early pioneering motorcyclists in the 1890's were pretty quick to realise that fitting a motor into the then new fangled pedal & chain drive "Safety" bicycle would create the perfect road going motor vehicle.
At least today we don't have to suffer the horrors of a single "Spoon" rear brake on a Victorian Cyclemotor / "motorcycle", horse crap in the roads, acetone lighting, etc.
The first 1900's Harley Davidson is in essence a motorised bike, but that what the style was back then.

  • @BEEBEE159
    @BEEBEE159 3 роки тому

The main benefit with a motorized bike is that it uses regular bike tires, which are less likely to get a flat. When you are riding on the shoulder of the road, there is a lot of debris, nails and sharp glass. The wide tires on a scooter are much more likely to get a flat riding on the shoulder of the road, than a narrow bicycle tire. Also, bicycles are more manuverable, to avoid sharp objects in the road. Lastly, if you do get a flat on the side of the road, it's going to be a lot easier to change the tube on a bicycle tire. Granted, if the tire is not damaged badly, you can just plug the hole on a scooter tire, if you carry a tire repair kit and pump. If the hole cannot be plugged, though, it will not be repairable on the side of the road.

Any chance we could get a tutorial on how start making one of these? I have been thinking about doing something like this for some time but I am not sure where to start or how to get the parts I'd need. I have very little gas welding experience and I don't currently have any gear for it but I see that you used a lot of clamps and bolts, how did you start enginering that? Do you get most of your parts from one place?

      .
      .
Dude --- You don't need ANY kind of welding experience.
Just some screwdrivers and other COMMON everyday Tools.
      .
      . == THAT'S IT ==
      .
I have had 2 REAL Mopeds back in the day.
      I have had 1 Honda CB200 Motorcycle.
I have ridden an EX best friend's Yamaha RD400.
I have NEVER put one of these little Motorized Bikes
      together in my life.
      .
      . == I didn't know WHERE to start. ==
      .
I first came into contact with a few of these awesome
little bikes a few years back that someone on my Avon
Delivery route made and sold for a living.
Needless to say, I never actually got to meet this guy and
thought these bikes were THE SHIT.
      .
. == Fast forward to the present. ==
      .
I found one of these "KITS" on EBAY and only paid $300.00
for a better than average motor with the Mountain Bike kit.
You can ACTUALLY get an engine kit without the Bicycle for
      around $150.00 to $175.00.
I would recommend getting one WITH THE BIKE.
These bikes come with front forks that can handle the rigors
and wear and tear of the road.
Mine came with a MOUNTAIN BIKE.
I made sure that it was.
I like Mountain Bikes over the Beach Cruiser style --- ANY DAY.
Just do a little recon work on EBAY until you find the one
that YOU like and fits your budget.
      .
I had to do a BUTTLOAD of SEARCHING UA-cam in order to
figure out "HOW THE HELL AM I GONNA BUILD THIS THING" - ?
      .
. == There are a SHIT LOAD of videos about the subject. ==
      .
      . == And -- THEN -- I found it. ==
      .
There's a channel under "HUGHES MOTORIZED" that broke it down
      .
      . == PERFECTLY. ==
      .
This guy takes you through it from the very first time the kit comes in
the mail STILL IN THE BOX.
He takes EVERYTHING out and lays it out on a table and talks about
      the items.
THEN --- He does EVERYTHING IN SEGMENTS.
      STEP BY STEP.
All the while EXPLAINING each item he is handling.
And HOW YOU are to do it as he does.
      .
. == AND WHY you do it that way ==
      .
      This guy is AWESOME.
He takes you from un - boxing STRAIGHT THROUGH to the FINAL step
of STARTING the engine and how to ride the thing.
There are like SEVEN segments in all.
It may be a total of 8 though.
He is fairly humorous at times and this guy is so good at teaching you
WHAT you need to know and HOW to do it.
He even explains how to mix your Gas with the 2 Stroke oil.
He also goes on to describe the "BREAK IN PERIOD".
      .
I would recommend this guy as the GO TO GUY when it comes down
      to the Motorized Bicycles.
      .
Now I'm not really sure about the 4 Stroke Bikes as MINE is a 2 Stroker.
      I hope this helps you.
      These bikes are awesome.
      I call mine "The Beast".
It is a 88cc engine I think it was.
      THIS THING FLIES.
Without the extra gear I have stowed in the Saddlebags, I have reached
      48 MPH.
      And that was STOCK PARTS.
I now have JUST added a High Compression Head and I have a Combustion
Chamber High Performance Muffler I am about to add.
THE BEAST came from CDH power out of Tucson Arizona.
If you have EVER ridden a TRUE MOPED --- THESE BIKES QUALIFY.
And you can't beat the Gas Mileage.
Roughly 150 MILES TO THE GALLON.
The stock kit comes with a Half Gallon Tank.
      .
      .

    Really nice builds.
I just built my first one, it has a 100cc 2 stroke engine, I got the bike for free( it's a $2000.00 Denali) that I found in a dumpster, had to do a bit of work to it, but nothing major.
I am a Carpenter, not a mechanic, but I was able to install everything in 1 day, they are not hard to do, they can be upgraded without spending a fortune, they get crazy gas mileage, and mine is getting about 35mph.
Thanks for the video, Amazon has a hands free blinkers/ stop light for$20.00, just remember to take it with you, lol, friggin thieves are very excited about motorized bicycles, definitely need great locks..
Thanks again, mine don't look as cool as yours, but it does the trick, that is for sure.
Another thing about these kits, they do not say on the engine what cc they are, so it's a 49cc if ever asked.😂
Just so you know, the laws differ greatly from state to state, in most states you don't need anything for a 49cc scooter. Problem is that if you plan on traveling with them, you might run into trouble with the state your entering, I would say that a scooter has a gear box, that gives you much more torch in the beginning and much higher speeds than these single gear kits for bikes, I have seen gear boxes for a 4 stroke bike engine, but it doesn't look like it's going to be easy to install, perhaps I'm not seeing something right, and you also have less free hands on the bike as compared with a scooter.
As much as I love my motorized bicycle, I do like scooters for the ease of riding, the storage space, and the ability to go quite a bit faster, or pull a load slower.

The vehicles this guy shows from around 3:30 to 6:15 are SCOOTERS. Not mopeds. Mopeds are driven by an engine but a true moped also have pedal assist. The word moped itself is a blend of the words motor and pedal and has Sweedish origins. Really mopeds are very similar to the motorized bicycles he's showing but are generally faster and street legal. Mopeds have more durable rims, frame, and suspension as well.

Paul Olvera so since mopeds and scooters are not the same do scooters need to be registered with DMV and get license plates or is it just mopeds?

I agree with this man, I have just fitted a 25cc 4stroke Honda to my Kona Stab Delux and its a superb form of transport its getting 294 miles per gallon or 0.8 L per 100 km at 25km/h without pedaling and around 35 km/h pedaling. I put a 50 tooth sprocket up front and it stays in 5th pedal gear, the combination allows for this its fast enough.
The 8 inches of travel give it the ability to ride over square sidewalks, you may ask why, well if you have to take evasive action at speed you wont snap your front forks off going up a square side walk, that makes it much safer, the hydraulic disc brakes make it stop on a dime, on a Kona you can rub off speed in a split second Maxis Hookworm tires have an amazing amount of grip.
Its really has worked out well, I do a 50km/ 31 miles ride once a week, so far I have done 200km / 124 miles on it and I am not fit at all, it just takes me there.
I only have to work on steep inclines, which is fair enough, you dont get 294 miles per gallon unless you right on the edge.
Most of the time you either on a down hill or a flat surface so there is plenty of time to have a rest in between the uphills, I am sure I could ride 100km in an afternoon if I had to.

I love the 4 cycle and the simplicity of the friction drive. What are your feelings about a shift kit or chain drive. I know that if I have the golden eagle belt drive or friction drive , I will be changing rubber every 1000 miles . Would appreciate your input .

real mopeds have pedals, that's why its called a moped. your comparing your bikes to scooters to be technical. those custom bikes are interesting, it does depend from state to state and town to town. Oregon 50cc under u don't need any thing ie; plates license etc no more than 30-35mph. just buy a lazer 5 moped they claim 100mpg and can be pedaled .

    • @theatom7264

A buddy of mine had a Lazer 5 moped that thing was a piece of crap. It stalled almost all the time even when I tried driving it one time the battery actually shook apart started leaking. Even after the battery was replaced it still had stalling issues.

Nicolas Marez I see motorized bikes as kinda a class of their own that distinguishes them from scooters & mopeds. But your right motorized bikes are defined as a moped at least in my state in the registration form.

in the uk a "moped" is 49cc max limited to 31mph,
a "goped" is a moped with pedals (no limits on cc or speed) aka pedal and pop,
a scooter is anything over 50cc without gears.

Over 7 years and people are still watching it. Here in Idaho, it has to be a 49 cc or less, not go over 30 mph and no more then 3 wheels. I want to build a 4 stroke with a 2.5 HP engine which is a 37.5 cc if my math is right. HP x 15 = cc, something like that but I want it to push 40 -45 mph if possible. I also want power but can't have it both ways. I would choose power over speed if I have to. What are the best 4 stroke kits for 2021.

Built mine from cheap 99$ 80cc eBay kit and haggled a 21 speed mtn bike from Craigslist somewhat locally for 20$. Took me 4 hours to assemble kit and hour or so to fix the brakes and original chain assembly and bam! I picked up 5gal of gas in a tank for 15$ and oil for 5$ and so for about 150$ I built a bike and the gas lasted me a month using it damn near every day (again I live in the mountains so constant up down sometimes up to 45 degrees) I welded up a cargo rack and I only spend like 20$ a month for gas because I use it more than my damn car at this rate :) gas bikes give me that old school sense of freedom, there’s nothing like them

I would like to have both, but I prefer a moped, the big ones can reach highway speeds.
But it is an unfair comparison bc they are different devices,a moped will leave ANY motorized bike in the dust,is heavier, costlier and safer, having insurance is not a bad thing,if I had a motorized bike I would like to have rider insurance, just in case a car hits me and runs...
M.B have their uses, but a moped will go further places that a MB can only wish.

I used to ride a honda nc50 express and I regularly got around 150-160mpg city with it. Only had a half gallon tank though. My most recent chinese motor scooter got 100 miles on the nose on 1 gallon this week, half highway riding, half city riding, pretty impressive for a tired old scoot that sat in a horse barn for 15 years
