I forgot to say, vent your gas cap if you DO upgrades and mods to your engine making more performance, and also improving fuel delivery. Vent your cap.
Useful info to keep your engine running as long as possible:
- Never run lean if you can. Your crank bottom end bearing will fail and damage your top end eventually.
- Be careful with advancing your timing. Too advanced - pre-detonation, equivalent to using a sledgehammer smacking the piston, damages your crank shafts, bearings and other parts over time.
- Because of these cheap chinadoll cranks, some of them may or may not hold up to higher RPM for longer periods of time. The crank pin may or may not be a tight fit. Over time they tend to go out of true. Honestly, the only way to keep them trued is by having a slightly oversized pin, making a much tighter fit, OR just tack welding them. Make sure your crank is trued before you do that. Balancing your crank will help keep it trued for longer periods of time, in my opinion.
- The reason why going higher rpm for longer periods of time is a bad idea, this is because the crank bottom conrod bearing and pin is creating some heat, thinning out the oil, creating more friction, then heating up more. I was told this, and that the pin also sometimes rotate (what?)
- For continuous runs, I would say that 8 to 9k rpm would be max. Anything over that, be careful and don't run for too long. It's hard to say for how long. Maybe like, over 30 seconds or so? Who knows. You can always build your own crank, better upgraded bearings, slightly oversized pin for tighter fits, and tolerances of the bearing, etc. OR buy one from people. Or buy an actual upgraded crank, either RDM crank, or Kelly Cansler's billet steel crank. I believe RDM is able to take 15k rpm continuously, and Kelly's 12-13k continuously? Kelly only told me that it turns 12k+ hard, continuously.
- Don't lug your engine (giving your engine more throttle/gas while at lower rpms like under 4k rpm or so)
- Smaller sprockets (depending on wheel size) can and does lug your engine more easily when trying to take off. Even if not, it will accelerate wear to the moving parts. This may result in blowing the bottom bearing as well.
There's a lot to learn. I'm also still learning. I'm sure there will be experienced commenters to give more advice and tips.

I want to correct that at 1:50, those catnip/BBR CDIs do not advance your timing at higher rpm. They retard your timing. I believe by about 20 deg.
I'm going to run a rear hub with sealed bearings... they're nice
The port map Smolik posted today on the A85 shows the ports have significant room to be raised. So to set your squish gap it would be better to space the cylinder upward and deck down the top of the cylinder until the squish is correct. (Obviously you should measure the timing of the ports in your particular cylinder before doing anything).
Do you know why they retard timing?
It is because, with an expansion chamber, at peak power they effectively supercharge the cylinder, raising dynamic compression ratio, so timing needs retarding to prevent detonation.
This is also why bikes in the 1980's/90's had low static compression ratio, like rd250 etc, I believe it was less than 7:1.
@peterjohn3180 probably. Its to safely Rev at higher rpm without advancing timing, without pre detonation. Doesn't help with gaining more rpm tho
@breezetixmoto looks like from the graphs you can delay total retardation to a higher rpm "with more retard" you hold advance longer
Just want to say I can understand you perfectly mate and really enjoy your videos, I live with a stammer so I understand what its like for your speech not to be perfect, greetings from England
Ty
Just got my A85 installed and will never go back to a 66cc again. The stock power out of the box is much better. I have all the bells and whistles ready to install except for the carb. Thanks to you, that issue is solved. 🥳 Keep up the great work and you are a Pro in my book !! Dale
CC isn't everything. It's just the ports, squish gap, combustion chamber of head, pipe, carb, crank balanced or not, etc. Then of course the CC altogether.
@@craigengelman1369 ok cool, so?
I love this guy so much! I’ve been working on a phantom 85 build and this dudes helped me through the whole thing, sometimes when I feel lonely I just watch you’re videos bc no one is usually shares interest in these motor where I live
even tought i don't have this engine, i can clearly say this is the best guide i've seen on youtube, good job keep it up!!!!!!!!!!!, greetings from italy
Thanks
Man you are nuts to go that fast on standard bearings! Glad she didn't let go while you were going any faster.....
When you have time on the wrench you have faith in the wrench. 🔧
Thanks for posting , I got good info in the cc calculator. I don’t do much research online (which is just lazy) but you laid it out for me here; thanks. 🙏
Welcome
Bro thanks for not letting speech hold you back from making videos u make good content and I understand loud n clear bud ROCK ON!!!!
This video is freaking awesome, was glued to it, I’ve watched it twice. So far I’ve built a 4 stroke beach cruiser, it looks sweet but it’s a definite putt putt, did conc sprocket after market tensioner etc, I have a mountain bike sitting that has disc brakes front shocks it’s like new, been thinking about building a 2 stroke, then I watched this video and I’m all in, nice job thank you. Want something that hits 45-50, then I’ll probably do a Felt at some point when the time and moneys right, I enjoy building as well, anyway Thanks Man 👍
I like watching you do work on these bikes. Your bike looks so much better then mine, ive built two so far your content is very inspiring
Ty
Well done bro your helping loads of pf people here
Thanks
Yeo u speak amazing well for somone who is deaf there wasn’t 1 word I couldn’t understand u honestly talk much better than some people on these UA-cam videos that can hear and you extremely knowledgeable never seen someone hit those kind of speeds on these bikes keep it up man 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I'm very impressed with how far your channel has come in just a few months. Keep up the good work
Thanks
Best video i've seen in Months...I watched the whole entire video....GOOD STUFF BRUH
thanks
Try using minimoto exhaust expansion chambers.
If you can weld you can pie cut etc for right shape to fit.
When you raise exhaust port you lower compression ratio as the distance between the top of port and head is less.
I raise mine about 2-3 mm!
I lower inlet by the same!
What is the cylinder you started with?
Coated bore and enclosed transfers!
All I can find is open transfer slots or cylinder with liner that makes lips.
Just did my first build I’m so happy and it flies 🔥🔥🔥
You are a great engine builder I used to build race engines for gocarts and I just put a yd100 on bicycle but I will probably keep it stock I'm 64 years old but my brain wants to build it lol
Great video! Might I add that the fact that you can tune an engine without hearing is amazing in itself 👍
I can hear it
A little work an flirting with 50mph. Nicely done. The A85 being so good for its price makes high performance experimentation much more feasible.

Good video bro very informative 👍🏽😎
Appreciate it
Very very well done 👏 ✔️ 👍. Nice work indeed 👏. Thanks for making this video.. a lot of work ans time goes into these projects let alone making a video 📹 ❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you very much!
Thanks for this, I was feeling like shit before you uploaded, please keep up the great work
Welcome, feel better soon
On vintage bikes they have cranks like this note the crank pin is far from the edge/ outside unlike modern bikes?
Loads of space around the road, you can machine crank was smaller and fit stuffers in case to raise cash compression or make a shaped stuffer that clears the rod. Old Villiers 210 and bsa Bantam racers swore by it.
Also fill any balance holes with resin.
Btw how did you get the pulse signal for the pumper cars?
I was going to buy that exact one but seller said it wasn't adjustable!
crankcase pressure as I said in the video.
I was thinking. Won't you do a rebuild on the YD100 you have? I'd like to see some performance mods implemented there now that you know more and more. I love this hobby Trent, take care.
I dont have the yd100 anymore
@@breezetixmoto ahh nvm
@@Matthew-wj8cm imo yd100s are trash. Just a 1 piece cylinder, weak, can't swap heads
@@breezetixmoto you can convert to Avenger/Phantom top end. That's what's attractive to me
@@Matthew-wj8cm well yea you can swap the cylinders with many different cylinders. Athena sport uses 45mm stud spacing, studs need to be drilled to like 8.5 to 9mm to fit on 8mm studs for example.
Good informative video ride safe brother
Thanks
Oh man. Gotta order some sealed bearing wheels. I got the rear mag still. I know the dangers but sealed bearings are great. No loosening unlike the cone nut bearing wheels. I gotta upgrade the whole frame though. I got another one for $300 and got scammed😢😢. But at least got a PWK21 in return.
Yea well it's my old beach cruiser bike that I've had since october now. My second motorized bike bicycle actually
I like the way you talk! ....UMMMHUMM. new sub, I wanna build one of these, 😂👊🤓
Very informative 👏
welcome
The back wheel barrings coming loose seems to be a common problem idk if the BBR or Wheelmaster wheels are better or not haven't had a set or just a back wheel for motorized bikes yet....but something I am considering
@@DJb-ill219 Idk about bbr, I think they're fine? I would feel safer with actual sealed ball bearings, because with just balls in the hub and axle, you do have to re-tighten every once in a while, you are also tightening the balls against a race that is also a wall inside the hub. Usually you don't want to tighten it too much, nor loosen it too much, just a little bit tight while still being able to turn the axle over, without any play.
Gemini wheels are $400 a set, thick and big aluminum hubs, uses actual sealed ball bearings, and looks great overall. Or buy a set for $230 from a wheelbuilder, that I know, join my discord server and you'll find him, it's Mitchell's BikeWorks. (Note I haven't bought a set from him, nor do I know anyone who uses his set, but from what he's been saying in the dms, they seem like they will last a very long time)
i think for now ill keep the engine stuck or atleast put a new muffler and a carburator that one u said do u think it will go over 35-40mph stock speed?
Probably. If you're not satisfied with the performance then go upgrade/mod it.
love your videos keep it up
Thanks!
Is the banana exhaust really bad or is it just better than the stock one? Really good videos btw 💪🏼
It is better, but you're better off with the mz65 clones as i imagine it will do way better for the price.
Does the 40 to 48mm intake work for the sthil carb or do i need a different one? Im tired of messing with the hp carb so after watching ur video i think im gonna swap the carb and get a different pipe and see what that gets me
you can see me using it for the 090 carb...
So out of all these motors being sold what would you say would be the most reliable motor I have a yd100 now thanks
Probably the avenger 85.
Can you send link to the manifold your useing for that carb please i have same engine and like the idea of that carb thanks in advance
Just search it up, it was in the video..
So much info!!! What throttle cable do you use for the pumper carb
Just a regular cable
That's scary fast next to moving cars and right next to the curb.
Especially when the ground is wet.
I don't trust people in cars as they seem very impatient to be behind someone on a bike.
They do the same thing to people in motorcycles.
Stay safe brother 😊
haha yea
YUP BREEZE🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yo what was your set up when you hit 62mph?? What carb were you using?
that was on my other bike with 70cc athena sport cylinder. Rmh minarelli racing pipe and stihl 090 carb.
Like your videos!
Thanks
looks good put a gasket on my upgraded head it blew up in crankcase you say no gasket needed 😮
.... with heads using o rings, no head gaskets required anymore 🤦♂️
I made an inlet stup on cylinder by using copper pipe and liquid metal resin.
I'll try and make a video.
can you do a how to on that pumper carb set up? how to drill out the holes
Soon
Are you using a phone app to test head temperature?
My yd100 vibrates a lot. In the description they said it has a balanced crank. It probably isn't so true. Also my yd doesen't want to go very high with rpm but it's totally stock so that's fine i guess.
yea they always claim things about these engines. "100cc" but is actually like 70cc or less. "balanced" but is actually like 30-45% balance factor and all that stuff.
@@breezetixmoto yeah yd shoud be around 78.5 cc i think. I wish i had enough stuff at home to ballance the crank myself but it's not a performance build so ill leave it as it is. My build is more like slow but got me up all hills so far.
I love these videos, keep it up👍 coud you do this with 80cc engine? Thanks
I mean I could do a heavily upgraded/modded one with a good pipe and all to make it a "racing" engine perhaps. In the future.
@@breezetixmoto that woud be awesome
i wanna see that carb set up in part 2 i wanna give it a try give it a try
Yep recording videos of nit
One question how do you get the standard nt carbeurator to have more higher rpm ?
By upgrading the carb.
@@breezetixmotowhat carb should i get ?
Such a great video...
Thanks man
Movement in real life.
Hi, what Brand Is that RPM/hourmeter? Thx
Runleader
Was it really that slow in stock form?
Yeah somewhat. 35 to 40mph. It was during break in and also tuning, it probably would've hit 45 maybe 50 if it was broken in more. Regardless it wasn't that powerful and had weak acceleration
@@breezetixmoto thanks for" the real world test" on that motor. Seems like everyone claims 50+ right out of the box lol 👍🏾😁
I think you are in km/h man 🤘🤘🤘
Lmao you joking? I guess you just have an awful perception of speed.
It was running better &.faster at 12:30 - b-4 U did Squish Gap. Twas hitting the PowerBand nice & going 60+…
that's uh... my other engine. Not the avenger 85
Did you say the squish band in your smolik head was flat?
Yes
@@breezetixmoto i don't think my smolik head has a flat squish band. Ill have to take it off and see.
Its 95 degrees here in Cincinnati
So hot im inside today, lol
@@KB_Joys they have different designs for different pistons
@@breezetixmoto i have the avenger
how many CCM?
what do you mean
What nibbi did you get?
Nice work btw...
Nibbi 19
might buy a 100cc or 80cc kit for my mtb but idk 100 or 80
get the avenger 85, that's the best out of the box, and that's what he's using in this video
@@midge753 alright ty
Get 2 piece cylinders instead, trust me
Great video but im watching like damn thats way too much work, money and knowledge that i dont have lol
it's all real simple tho
@@breezetixmotoFor the most part yes but for me i'm more of an hands on learner lol and you said your not an expert but you are really smart and you know way more than most people that deal with these motors, keep up the good work 👍

@@breezetixmoto Ohhhh that's what it is. I enjoyed the vid its pretty cool. Just wondering, is there a way to get a disk brake?
@@dema669 ask people on my dc server
A stock kx 80 from 1986 nup liquid cooked is 45hp n a 6 speed gear box wtfk am I missing this 80 is barely making 8hp at best I know cause I've had 8hp mini bikes that hit 60mph way way way faster than this man that's sad a 5hp harbor freight predator moves a bicycle frame n a fat ass 350lbs better than that bro. Ever think of a real exhaust maybe an expansion chamber kinda like all n every 2stroke dirtbike n or look at lumberjack contest see the massive exhaust from flicking dirt bikes I mean bro come on man seems like u know these things but what couldn't find a donor bike to have a 2stroke worth a fk? Noisy afk too I'd pull a spike strip to shut up that thing if I had to hear ol boy test n tune all day lmfao
