I'm getting some comments about how generative AI is the problem and that I'm only talking about "AI assistance", if that makes sense. I was aware of this and actually removed a section at the beginning where I was talking about generative AI and how I think that it's bigger of a problem than what I was going to then talk about. Should have left this in - I yap a lot and wanted to get straight to the point - but just to clarify, I'm aware generative AI is *the* big problem and I don't (mostly) agree with AI actually "writing" songs, although I could release another hour long video talking about that so.... This video was just about the AI tools I use in my music. Peace n love :)
Generative AI isn't an issue at all, I've generated dozens (maybe hundreds) of different songs on Suno and all of them have really simples bass lines, drum patterns and often they have lots of issues between rhytm and tempo. I do use it often to give me new ideas for the overall shape of a music. Sometimes I write a lyric and try to find a vocal melody for it, but somehow I'm stuck cycling over the same melody shape, Suno helps me to break this cycle and think of different possibilities... The biggest issue is that the music industry kept putting thrash songs on main stream, so when Suno creates trash songs it sounds like it's an ok song
@@shimonami8960 An interesting one, I agree and disagree. Everything you said here I agree with, generating a song and using it as inspiration is exactly the same as someone writing a song that is very similar to one said writer is inspired by. Kurt Cobain did this. John Lennon did this. Multiple times. Most of music in the 60s was built off blues music that started in the 50s and there are many many occasions where you could easily say music was stolen just in this period. Led Zeppelin is a prime example. But this can also be a naive point of view, because even though *you* are using programmes such as Suno responsibly and just as inspiration to create something greater, that doesn't mean everyone will. Huge record labels will have the power to release 50 chart toppers a day and wipe out anyone who wants to make a living out of music. Musicians already can barely make a living from music as it is. But maybe it just sucks to suck? Maybe us musicians will simply have to write better and more songs to compete? Who knows. I don't believe generative AI is evil and should be banned, but I think it can be used incredibly badly too, and should be regulated in some way, shape, or form.
@@JudeDylan at least on my personal experience, usually I use Suno to hear dozens off singings to broaden my perception until I start humming my song. Then I proceed to create melodies, harmonies and introduce other elements... But I agree with you, the big labels created an era of cheap and shallow songs, now AI is a threat because it can easily recreate this song style in seconds... But what happens after that? With hundreds of thousands of 50 chart toppers being created weekly, will any of it be a 50 chart topper? After being bombarded with an infinite number of cheap and shallow music, will people keep hearing and liking it? Maybe ths public perception changes and they start to demand songs that have more artistic value, something that an AI (and most commercial producers nowadays) can't really fully recreate
And this I completely 100% agree with. Although I have no actual evidence I truly believe that music made with genuine passion carried across emotion into the final product and ultimately sounds "better". Humans are humans and our imperfections are what make us. AI can never carry across emotion as it is not human, it can only ever replicate, and can carry that same emotion as humans making art. I think the same will happen - the world will become so void of emotion that people will demand something with substance. It might just take us a while to get there though.
Well said Jude :D AI can be really scary, but with control and good moderation, AI can be used without taking away any creativity or originality to songs!! Also this is very helpful info too, I might use it in future :3
Thank you :DD Yeah I agree, but the problem is right now there is NO moderation. The technology is already spiralling very quickly. But I hope you find it useful and make cool things with it :))
Remember when the internet started... um, ok maybe not. Well the new internet introduced some problems, Y2K for example (a huge issue that the masses decided it was the end of the world.) Bring on the AI but maybe make sure there is a shut off, just in case :)
Yeah I think it's complicated. I don't think AI itself is evil but needs to regulated, and as you say, have an easy shut off and preventative measures.
One of the reasons I wouldn't do this is because the second you say you're using AI, people jump to conclusions and assume you're using generative AI. Having the words "AI" and "Indie" music next to each other made me click on the video because I was like oh god whats this. Your limitations in making music can bring charm to your songs, it might be useful to learn how to record the same way everyone does and not cut any corners. Anyway sorry for yapping. The songs sound great, and at the end of the day thats all that matters.
Honestly... no idea. First time I've ever done it, I've seen other people do it and thought it'd save me two minutes by not having to put a microphone stand up. Not really happy with how it looked in the end to be honest so probably won't do it again so in answer to your question, literally no idea
Ha! Good one. However if you do actually have an attention span, I'd recommend you watch the video and then listen to the music I've released, and THEN spout your opinion. People usually find opinions more convincing when people actually have evidence behind them (intelligence helps too) 😊 hope this helps! :)
Oh yeah absolutely, I'm not for AI at all, in any way. But the point of the video is that it's here and how we can use it responsibly to enhance our hard work. But, are you against ai in absolutely any form? What about when it comes to medical issues, would you support ai if it helped us reach the cure to cancer now, rather than in 200 years?
@@JudeDylan In my opinion just using AI promotes it more and makes it the norm, I don't know I just feel like saying AI is useful in itself is bad because AI really only does more bad then good.
AI is the norm, even if you use it or not. Denying it wont make it go away, and most of the labels are using it for a while to help producers... And I'm not talking about AI plugins and isolation, I'm talking about the generative AI

Instrument separation isn’t a bad ai, it’s more generative ai that’s the problem
Oh yeah fr. I did have a section talking about how i disagree with AI making songs themselves but decided to take it out. But yeah I fully agree
