    So often you see tenants trash the places they rent. It’s refreshing to see tenants that take pride in the places they rent by caring for them and personalizing them.

    • @Bhodisatvas
      @Bhodisatvas 2 роки тому +4

      Thing is, what you will find is that council tenants seem to think the property belongs to them and do things like knock walls through and embark on major renovations and modifications not grasping the property does not belong to them and they have a tenancy agreement they must abide by. They MUST return the property to it's original state it was when they moved in but most of the time when moving out they simply leave the residence in the state they turned it into and guess who foots the bill for returning it to it's original uninhabited state for the next renters? TAX PAYERS.

    I absolutely loved Jam and his garden, I would've loved to be his friend. What a beautiful soul. For those wondering, he lost his battle against the Housing Association and was evicted from his Preston flat and moved to London shortly thereafter. He sadly passed away at the age of 70 from cancer in 2020. If you take anything away from this video, live more like Jam. Bright, courageous, uninhibited and passionate - I'm sure his personality captured here will continue to inspire and endear him to the millions watching this documentary.

      That is so tragic to hear Jam was evicted. That HO probably broke his heart. He created an environment that elevated the lives of those around him & evil people had to destroy that. That is so wrong! & very sad😢.

      😭😭 I'm heartbroken too hear this. Thank you letting us know. I watched this video and loved his kind, creative nature. All he wanted, after witnessing such horror, is to have a little joy and a place to create a beautiful home. People are so nasty and cruel. Why doesn't the garden shop get destroyed for selling such so called vile statues. There was nothing at all wrong with his beautiful garden, it improved the property and brought joy to a drab and depressing building. I believe we are spirits and souls having a human experience. And now I hope that Jam is finally at peace, on the other side in the most loving, peaceful place. Take care. 🎶💐🙏

      There's an old saying - do as you would be done by. The reason is everything truly is one & connected, so everything we do to someone else we are really doing to ourself. Karma is the cause & effect that any pain we inflict on another we will have to experience at some point in our infinite existence. If this was truly understood people would be a lot nicer to each other!

    A very interesting show. The woman that lived the Bohemian lifestyle made a comment that struck close to my very soul. In essence that artist types are loners at heart. Now that I am in my 60s I am completely at peace having a place on my own. I'm totally at one with my hobbies and studies. I'm the happiest I've ever been in my life. Never would of believed that when I was younger.

    I am blown away by the wonderful freedom, creativity and craftsmanship of these people!! Once I painted a mural in a London council flat on the 18th floor. I renvated the rest on a shoestring as I was just a "visiting friend", and yes it probably sold for a premium because of it a few years later. The only example of a council flat turned paradise I know personally is on a council estate outside Brussels. The couple created an exotic garden with a grotto/water fall and everything inside is so bijou you would fancy yourself in the lap of luxury! Passersby are stunned by it and I suspect they love to invite admirers in like they did me.
    I have lived in my own property outside Brussels for 20 years and have put my personal colourful and artistic stamp on the entire house and garden, though nowhere near on the scale of these artists. In my previous rented flat I was always obliged by contract to return the place as rented (white, boring, standard) and the real structural improvements were never refunded inspite of promises to the contrary. These clauses put a real damper on my creativity and I put my energy on building and painting things for my son instead like a big puppet theatre and a house under the stairs that had to be dismantled of course.

He owned his own business and was the only one in town people trusted to restore all the old Victorian houses. He’d do all the true craftsmanship and etchings. Several of the houses are even on historical house tours and the owners like to say it’s original but it’s all replica. At my dads funeral many people came to say how he saved their houses. That man and my dad definitely have a lot in common. A lot of cabinetry makers are very creative.

    Good grief! That's Molly Parkin!!! Not just a gorgeous fashion & style icon of the 60/70's but a bit of a badass babe in her time. Women's lives were changing rapidly the music scene and fashions were wildly colourful and she was one of those in front of the charge, loud, bold, and outspoken. Seemingly totally open and holding nothing back. But it was only in her 60s she was able to tell about the horrors she'd left out when talking about her childhood. She's really quite the woman!
