valeriesuelove You’re right. He is trying. He is a good person. He’s also trying his best as we all are to keep mentally positive as we know this world will beat us to death if we let it. His wife needs to be more supportive or get out there and find a job too! Complaining is not going to help the situation...

It broke my heart that the kids make him drop them off in the back.
My father is 77 years old now & we grew up poor. Broken down cars, beat up shoes, no eating out... you get the picture. My dad struggled finding work, but he took what he could get. I was proud of him no matter what. I could have never made him feel worse by showing how embarrassed I was. That would have broken his heart. Times have changed very much 🥺

I look at an old pic of me, in my living room, as a kid. I can’t believe how poor & bare it looked! I never felt that poverty, when I lived it. We had each other (family) & we were happy. I can’t imagine treating one of my parents like Bob is treated! Family is love, a parent (& spouse) is not an atm, that is worthless, when they can’t dole out money !

It's not uncommon for kids that age to ask their parents to drop them off. Heavens forbid you you may ask for a kiss or a hug. Her attitude was quite disconcerting remarking about the car. Hey, he got you there. I had to walk.

For the kids in the first story, you have a mother and a father. You have a roof over your head and food in the fridge. You are driven to school, not in a car as fancy as others but it works. You were not abandoned or abused. You have a father that cares and fixes your lunch every day. What else do you want!???! I wish I had half of that when I was your age!

How is it possible that we are measuring a person's worth by how much their paycheck is? Bob seems like one of the best dads out there. Getting laid off can happen to anyone. This same situation happened to my own family when me and my brother were in our teens. We had to get out there and find whatever job was available and contribute to the family. We never blamed our dad for losing his job. We were proud of him and we felt it was our time to help out instead of just always depending on him. That's what a families are supposed to do, help each other in times of hardship. You only have one Dad in your life.

You and your brother were brought up right - it's the parents job to tell his / her kids something so they know what's up. In this story did they ask their oldest daughter to look for a job - no. Would this teen ask to go to work - no. So there you have it.

We are not rich, but my siblings and I do chip in for board and groceries. Once you hit a certain age that’s when you need to find a job and contribute even if you’re still staying with your parents.

I've noticed that people who never had to struggle don't handle financial, job and or health declines well. The coping skills haven't been developed. Poorer people seem always in survival mode and plan multiple ways to combat hardships . The upper middle-class and higher keep looking for their cheese refusing to believe it is gone. If their self worth is tied to their social standing or "image" they refuse to save themselves early on by ditching The "status symbols, expensive homes, materials and debt." Humility and common sense seems harder to attain the wealthier one becomes.

His family is atrocious! Here's an idea! All the teen children get part time jobs and chip in. Mom gets a job online from home that's flexible with her cancer treatment schedule. Save on electricity by not putting up xmas lights. Have the kids refill their water bottles at the drinking fountain and take reusable bags for lunch. Rent a house without a finished basement, that's cheaper. There's a lot of money being spent that's totally unnecessary! And the kids keeping up appearances? F-that! They can catch a bus to a local public school to save on gas and get over it. I know that's harsh...but families should work together and support one another. Why is this all on Bob???

My mom has pancreatic cancer and she worked full time as a secretary until she could retire, despite going for chemo every other week. My dad was a lot like Bob in that after he was laid off he never let his pride interfere with him doing jobs others might find beneath them in order to support our family (night custodian, pumping gas, golf caddy, handyman, etc). The United States Congress and State governments need to enforce the age discrimination laws they choose
to ignore. It is against the law to discriminate against older people but it happens frequently. Most older people who get laid off, whether in personal or in-mass layoffs, have difficulty getting another job because, if they are over 40, they're considered old by today's employers' and corporations' standards. Loss of homes, unemployment benefits that run out, and homelessness follows. Even worse, older people are forced to take early Social Security at age 62 instead of waiting until 66. When they have no choice but to take early monthly SS checks, they lose at least 25% of SS income for as long as they live. Women, living on SS, are probably the highest numbers living in poverty in the USA. For many decades, businesses have been disloyal when they discriminated against competent, loyal employees in favor of employing younger, less costly and skilled workers. This scenario continues against older workers today. I pray our government will help the elderly who became poor due to being shut out of decent employment opportunities and suffer this terrible loss of SS benefits they were entitled to previously.

I also was on a team that started a free health clinic, volunteered at the food pantry, and prayed... a lot. At the end of that year in my mid fifty’s I took a minimum wage no benefits job working at a plastics plant in the automotive industry. After 20+ years in healthcare this was my new career path. I’ve now been working full time with benefits for the past 7 years. Life has changed, my wife has been with me every step of the way. These children need to stop complaining both of their parents are still able to draw breath ! You should have to live my life and leave what I have gone through ! I have never worked a day in my life and I am in a wheelchair with cerebral palsy . The doctor said I wouldn't be able to live past my first year but I survived by the grace of God . My dad worked for 27 so he can have a house just like that who died before he was able to really enjoy the house that worked his whole life to get. All you have is sit there and make do with what you have, there is nothing wrong with driving around in an old car. The lesson here is be the ant and not the grasshopper! In my book that is a beautiful home so why is everybody being such a snob. Some people just don't know how easy they really have it. At the end of the day all cars and houses are just sheet metal brick and mortar. Would you really need to worry about is how you going to take care of your family in the end of the day! It doesn't matter what it looks like as long as you get you from point A to point B and, you have a safe place to lay your head at the end of the day! We need to get our attraction the glitz and glamour out of our head! All that really matters are the essentials. If you want anything else you got to work for it. The moral of the story is always work to improve but, be grateful for what you have because you can always lose it. how Hard times breed more champions than privilege. 😎
