      Part of what you say is very true but serious mental health is no joke and to correct mental health you need to get out and exercise and learn to socialise and the pressure of work can send some over the edge , plus it doesn't help that not everyone can get a job that pays enough to justify coming of benefits, but yes theres a lot of lazy bastards who just dont want to work and too many people have kids just to get extra money and it's great way of avoiding work . It really annoys me when people have a load of kids and cant afford to have them and the government pays for it .
      I have always found it strange how you need a license to drive ,fish ,sell cooked food ,watch your TV but anyone can just produce a human being witch is one hell of responsibility especially for these teens that have kids !

      Battler and a fraudster. Claiming and doing extra stuff.
      No doubt she'll proclaim "benefits isn't easy"... nor is working love.
      I earn £55k a year, I have NO savings, I get by and live month to month, and have a credit card with a £900 limit maxed out and a credit card with a £200 limit which is at £130 currently having just sold some of my possessions to give me some living money this month, all as a result of a previous gambling addiction which I kicked 21 months ago.
      Not looking for sympathy, but people on benefits claiming they "don't get enough money" when WORKING people who are paying taxes to support them are STILL living with a similar amount of money each month to those on benefits, and are having to sell their possessions on the odd month here or there to help out financially, make me laugh.

    We need to introduce Personal Finance as a compulsory subject for all kids from the age of 14. Some people have parents who teach them how to manage money but the majority do not. Even those that do know how to manage their living expenses have little knowledge of things like Pension Planning.
    So we throw kids out of education into a world where only too many are more than happy to separate people from their earnings. Many people get into financial crisis, even those who are employed simply through a lack of knowledge.

      100% agree with you. I’ve been saying the same thing for years. They need to remove useless lessons or make them optional and add financial independence to the curriculum.

    • @stephenhodgson3506
      @stephenhodgson3506 Рік тому +20

      @@miamiglia The problem is what do you classify as a useless lesson? Throughout the teenage years kids regularly change their minds about what the want to do when they leave school. If you suddenly discover at sixteen you want to do something like geophysics as a career but didn't take both geography and physics then that is a career that is closed to you.
      A bit like personal finance it's not until we reach the age when we take exams that career possibilities are brought up. By then for some it could be too late because of the choices they have already made. If kids were shown what opportunities and jobs were out there from say eleven the education paths as well as personal finance could be used to develop them down a path that would suit them later on. The emphasis is far too much on passing exams rather than producing developed young people who know the options available to them and how to be responsible in their decision making.

    • @miamiglia
      @miamiglia Рік тому +11

      @@stephenhodgson3506 I do agree with you, but maybe instead of French German or Spanish you can choose financial lessons, or drama and music. I knew I was never going to be an actress or a musician but I was forced to choose one of the two. Yes a lot of kids don’t really know what they want to do as an adult but certain lessons like the few I just mentioned they should have the option to say no to those to do personal finance.

If your just unemployed it sucks but if you get a top up say disability it can be better than working it's sad that's the case. I recently have gone on to disability I used to work for Iceland £11.50. An hour and I'm financially better off. I no longer pay council tax, I have reduced water rates, my kids get free school meals, I don't have to pay £200 to commute and I have more.coming in than I did working. The government really need to make work pay because for people who do front line jobs be it supermarket staff be it cleaners or nurses it just doesn't add up. I love working and I hate being in this position but I can see why people get stuck like it. People blame the benefit recipient but it ain't their fault. We shouldn't be hating on people for being on benefit what do they get a couple grand a month but the people at the top.are dodging millions of tax but no one cares about that because benefits is just an easy target.

    Oh, I feel for Julie. I hope that things have gotten better for her. When my kids were 2, 4, & 6 their Dad died unexpectedly. we were young and life insurance was the furthest thing from our minds. I ended up on benefits of $980 a month for the four of us. I wanted desperately to work, but had no skills so was hoping to attend school. In Canada, Social Services does not allow you to collect any money while bettering yourself. I took out a student loan and was able to secure a whopping $818/m for me and my three kids to live off of for four years while I completed my degree. I ‘lucked out’ and got subsided housing for $98/m, my fully subsidized daycare for three children cost $580/m…you do the math, it didn’t leave much for power, heat, water, food, gas to get to and from school, clothes, school books…. To this day i don’t know how we survived. I bought a lot of cheap meat with bones - the kids got the meat, I gnawed on the bones. There were soul sucking trips to the food bank. Once they made a mistake and gave me baby Pablum. I made perogies and used the Pablum as a filling! God, they were horrible, but we ate them. I graduated, took just over a decade to pay off my student loans, ended up in a six figured job, and I was able to retire at 50 with a good pension and no debt. I’ve never forgotten the ten or so years that we suffered through though. My children are all in their 30’s now and, I think, have a better idea about the value of money and no debt because of what they lived through growing up. It CAN get better, Julie, and I hope that it did. You’ll certainly be in my thoughts tonight.

    One of the things I will never understand about the UK and its benefits system is that it gives you no motivation to work. The moment you start earning a few quid you are financially punished. Here in Australia our benefits system workson the basis that if you work you will still be supported. For example, 11 years ago I was unemployed, heavily in debt and I eventually lucked out and got a decent paid job. When I started working full time I had $4000 in work credit which meant for the first month I was working full time I was still getting full benefits (minus tax) with all of that going towards help clearing my debts (debts of $5400) and for the first 2 months of working I still got rent assistance (which helped me pay of the rest of the debt). Long story short, I got a job which paid me 4 times more than I got on the dole (including rent assistance) yet when I got the job I still got financial support to help me get sorted and in the last 11 years I have paid around 10 times more in income tax than what I ever claimed

      Try that mindset on a fridge, a bed, utilities, rent, clothing, food for someone in bad conditions.
      I have friends who were kicked out into the streets by their mother. A couple of friends who left an abusive relationship and the other had a small child. I have a friend who lost their job out of the blue and is struggling to keep up with their living arrangements payments.
      By your words, if someone can't afford a fridge to keep food, they should just buy in restaurants or fast food. If they can't afford a bed or a mattress, they should sleep on the floor. If they can't pay rent, they should sleep on the streets. A washing machine depends on the area, and some laundromats would be too expensive for a family of 4 or 5.
      Your comment was very tone deaf. I would have clarified i"f you can't afford LUXURIES, you should save up for them. If you can't save up for them, it wasn't meant to be". Because sometimes people DO need or want something, like a mattress that's not old, new un-torn clothes, heck...brand cereal, but just can't afford the luxury.

Most of us have no problems with those who genuinely need benefits and absolutely they should be entitled to claim but those who are more than capable of working but don't because they are better off scrounging off the state don't deserve it. As for the kids no it's not their fault and they shouldn't have to live in poverty. 26k a year, now 29k I believe is more than many working class families earn and they also have bills and mortgages not sitting on their arse doing fck all, on their latest iPhones and gadgets getting discounted rent and council tax etc and then complain they are not getting enough money. Don't be so naive to think many of these claimants can't work, they just don't want to with attitudes like yours that you are willing to let them get away with it is why we are overwhelmed with people on benefits.

      As it should be. My sister is a bit older than you (in quite a bit older lol) and she’s always struggling as she doesn’t have that mentality whereas I’ve always thought like you.
      It’s about having responsibility.

    The music manager/facilitator stumbled over the name of his company. Dodgy. Vulnerable people can be so easily taken advantage of because they can come across as desperate. Desperate for work, money, a break in life. People don’t always get what they deserve.

      Yeh, he doesn’t look too prosperous either. As a “ facilitator” he would get paid on both sides of a deal. I think the dude is a crook

    How the living fuck do you spend £250 each on 3 kids at xmas?! We, as full time earners, would not even know where to start to afford that.

      I maybe spend £150 each on my
      Kids, but I buy small things through out the year when i can afford it so it adds up but I don’t feel the pinch for it and I certainly don’t get into debt for them.

      I think because he’s a gambling addict he’s lost his sense of how much money is worth. So in his mind that’s not a lot of money or he thinks he can easily win more than that amount anytime.

      Kids are spoilt rotten these days. To get in debt because of a commercial enterprise called Xmas which comes along once a year is crazy. Xmas and a plastic fir tree with a fairy on top has nothing to do with Jesus the son of God.

      Ridiculous. Little kids are happy w/ small inexpensive gifts and stockings w/ some candy in it. Bake cookies. Look at the lights. Make hot chocolate. Go to fun (free) church Christmas programs.
