  • The world's smallest interchangeable lens micro four thirds camera is a true joy to use for both photography and high quality video. I've been using this almost daily for years. It literally fits in your pocket and can use any MFT lens out there. Great depth of field and bokeh gives a wonderful cinematic look. A great travel and vacation camera, great for street photography. It's so small, it looks like a toy. They don't make these anymore, but there are still a number of them on ebay... although after this video, they will probably be harder to get lol. Enjoy the video!

Incredibly refreshing channel, personality, and perspective on photography. I’ve lately fallen out of the art, passion, and experience of photography, and I’ve gotten so caught up on gear, RAW, editing, and all that. I started to obsess over technology too much and really stopped having fun. I almost quit photography because it just wasn’t enjoyable anymore. My pictures started to suck because they were more technical, then they were natural. Markus, you’ve got me inspired to make photos again instead of take photos.

It's so easy to get lost in the hype of the "latest and greatest". Then you spend all that time learning the new tricks the gear can do which only takes time and attention away from making your ideas into a production or tempering your skills so you can tell your stories in more visually interesting ways. I cherish that I learned on film. It not only helps keep your mind grounded when the shiny new stuff comes wagging its tail in your face saying "buy me, buy me" but it gives you a greater understanding of how it all works and the things that are rooted deep that remain under the hood of digital from the film days remain for a reason. Thanks again, Markus. I truly enjoy your insight and the occasional reminder of where we should focus.

I totally agree with your feeling for this camera. Myself after years of various cameras, most of which I have enjoyed, I have been using the Olympus E-PL8 a lot these past two years. Like the GM1 it is tiny, and no one takes it seriously, but the results are way above average. With the Panasonic 20mm lens I have images, which I have sold at exhibitions. Photography IS about passion, not the latest gear !

  • @eldorado5650
    @eldorado5650 3 роки тому +3

You're the man, @MarkusPix. The way you handle your shots is properly inspiring. Your videos are a breath of fresh air in this consumerist and extremely social world. Correct exposure is one of the best skills to learn when dealing with any cameras. This way, even if one has the latest and greatest, then suddenly uses a 50-year old Olympus, he/she will still get good shots.
By the way, I still have my GM5. I purchased it 5 years ago when it was already on sale with the 2 lenses. I was in the store ready to purchase an RX100 and then I saw the little camera. I learned it was MFT and I had to go home to do some research about it. I got the black one. I use it for all sorts of photography, even with astro. In the streets, it's virtually invisible, even with my 25mm F/1.7 lens.
Now, I am just surprised how many people are looking for the GM5 after the line was cancelled by Panasonic due to poor sales. I can even sell my GM5 body for more than my purchase price for the whole kit, but I am not going to do that. I am also amazed by capabilities of the tiny camera.
I agree that sometimes, people look for things that they don't have. The GM5 is not for sale anymore but they keep on overlooking the G100, which I think is more of a resurrection of the GM5 but with much more features. It is very well-priced now. It has a good tapered grip and a rather punchy viewfinder. The body size is close to the GM5 minus the EVF bump. I know a couple of people who own the GM5 and purchased the G100 just because they feel the same as I do about the G100. I know the online community/gear reviewers bashed it but I just can't see why. Perhaps, if they own it, they would its value. It's selling like pancakes in India, though.
Cheers from New Zealand and stay safe!

Speaking of using older stuff - I love shooting film on my old FM2, F5, Yashica Electro, ME Super: loading the film, the sound of the camera mechanisms, reviewing the slides and negs - and ya gotta' take your time and *think* about the shot; a totally different experience than digital. Once again you make a great point that few will declare. Keep up the great content! -Bill

@@johnsmith-gs4qf it's just crazy because the files are too big and for a travel vlogger that's a nightmare. 8K will be the biggest nightmare for some content creators, were will they store it all, I wonder 😂😂😂

@@RJinspire very true rj but you can also Downscale your video. For example: shoot in 8k , edit video and save in 1080p or whatever frame works best. Your videos resolution will be amazing and you will have the capability to use 8k / etc

I prefer a large heavy camera, i get better steadier results with weight. I never owned a camera without a viewfinder, Looking through a viewfinder immerses oneself into the image. Also, love listening to the shutter mechanism when i shoot. Fake shutter sound, is like these new cars with fake exhaust sounds.. I don't get it. However, i get it when kids mount cardboard to their bicycles with a clothespin to get that Motorcycle sound when the cardboard hits the spokes. DISCLAIMER: I was one of those kids. I am now an adult with a Harley.

MarkusPix you are the man and I loved how you just explained why you are exactly why you are an amazing talent because you choose to challenge yourself even with your phenomenal accomplishments with using the most humble equipment and convenient camera systems with no apologies! I want to share that I was in a creative rut in my adventure with photography and when I stumbled upon your channel your message about it is not necessarily about technical jargon but it is about your confidence in your creative mind set and ability to push your limits with what you may already have and ultimately be pleased with your efforts! I get it and thank you! You’ve reinspired me to push myself to pick up my love for a hobby we all share and it is photography and videography! That the love for equipment should come secondary to that fact! I do find myself pushing the possibilities of my humble equipment and thanks to your honesty and humility I do feel I now have the ability to capture comparably amazing shots with my point and shoot CSC’s without compromise just as easy as I am able to with my Full frame & APS-C DSLR & DSLT CSC’s! I truly appreciate you and the genuine aura you present on your channel and look forward to your uploads on a weekly basis! Don’t stop the phenomenal work that you do and the message that you love to share with the world because as it has inspired me to dream & believe I’m am 1000% positive that it has done the same for countless others sir! God bless you and your humble heart and thanks for being the only person you can be, MarkusPix! Cheers!

Man ..... thanks so much for this video. I'm feeling less alone now. After more than 40 years of some serious photography with all kinds of gear, from Linhof, Hasselblad to Minox, I decided a few years ago to get rid of all the huge camera systems. I even dumped my privately owned full frame system and started using MFT. Amongst them the GM1 and GM5. The smallest and beautifully manufactured little cameras. Yes the GH5 and G9 are heavier and more bulky, but still small compared to what I used. So happy with my decision. Got a lot of disapproval from my nerdy tech friends, but the ones that actually have seen my work are really surprised by the high quality of the output. That's what counts for me ....

Real people like you make a difference in this world full of “Influencers” that only want to make videos to have the latest technology. But you with a tiny little camera shows us what we can do to inspire other people! Also watching your videos has made me eat more healthy lol

I completely agree with you mate! I used to shoot with heavy Canon bodies and L series lenses. Got great results don't get me wrong but they were terrible for travel and wanting to keep things light weight. In 2015 I swapped to Olympus OMD cameras and the wonderful M.Zuiko lenses and life is much easier and better for my photography. It's such a pleasure to see older gear like the GM1 producing amazing results even in 2021. I'll be sure to keep my eye open for one at some point. Great work mate, keep it up!

I've always sort of thought a lot of the stuff you say but getting your professional insight is fantastic. I'm not a serious photographer in any way, mainly using my Pixel 4a smartphone nowadays but I had SLRs in the past and used to develop and print B+W as a youngster- I had my Grandad's old enlarger from the 1950's.

I'm a micro four thirds fan too! I shoot with a GH5 and a GX8 as well as own many native lenses. I love the compact and relatively light weigh system! It makes me happy that you appreciate the benefits of powerful gear in small form factors but not really surprising coming from somebody of your intelligence.
