  • In this video we take you through the process of Lada engine valve lash (clearance) adjustment on the 1500cc engine. The same theory is also applicable to any of the Lada series engines that use mechanical valve train.

I inherited a 2106 1977 recently. The videos are extremely helpful as I am trying to restore it to its former glory.

Very cool, glad to be of help, and while our own Lada projects have moved on, we did find that www.ladamoscow.com was great resource for parts during our projects. All the best! - Darren

You issues with the feeler can be much improved by using the very wide one from lada. that said, your way is likely much better.

Is there any way to make video about replacing valve seals. Or reply with some tip if you know and do you need any special tools? Great video gonna do a carb rebuild soon.

Darren/Shawn...when is the suggested timing chain replacement recommended? and do you plan on doing any more cosmetic upgrades to the lada?

Hi , here in Russia, we also tryied to do valve clearance adjusting by equal indicator, but in totale clearance was small and engine doesnt give full power.
In case if You use LPG fuel system OR fuel with 95ROz or more You need have 0,2 for exhaust valve and 0.15 for intake. ignition angle for 850rpm 8'5-10deg. Good Luck!

0,2 for exhaust valve and 0.15 for intake - engine only 1.7 litres (21213). For the remaining engine (1.5, 1.6) 0.15

Thanks for the video, Shawn! One question: when adjusting valve clearence, is it more accurate to set the piston's TDC through the markings on the camshaft gear or via the distributor's rotor position (given that ignition timing is correct)?

Hi Miguel! It is most accurate to use the cam gear marks, as that is what actually controls the valves. Also the timing of the distributor is set to advanced 5 or 10 degrees of TDC means it would not be correct for setting valve lash. The cam gear is the most accurate and therefore the more precise way to go. Thanks for commenting and I hope this helps you out. - Shawn

Hi, if You have time to do it more precisely, You need to turn camshaft for every valve, when You see oil chanel in shaft it mean that shaft in correct position for adjusting this rocker/valve.

Can someone explain to me how my lada niva is still running fine with 1.05 mm valve lash clearance ? Link: www.505turbo.com/forum/index.php?/topic/2344-what-did-you-do-today/&page=25&tab=comments#comment-29241

No offence intended, but this is not a good method.
I've tried it and your clearances will be way tighter than they should be. Also it requires a flexible dial mount which most people don't have and it takes triple the time..
The twisting of the rocker is a non issue, just centre the spring and it will not twist at all, using a wide feeler helps too.

You need not actually to remove the hood to valve adjusting in Lada )))

jwserge Agree, but we do enjoy the additional workspace and ease of filming when it is removed. Thanks for commenting! -Darren
