Perfect Video, Perfect Instruction. Done this today. After i installed the tensioner i pushed the car in the 5. gear 3 m back and forward before the first start. No more chain noise when starting the cold engine.
Already did that and no lifters noise for me! The hydraulic tensioner was terrible giving me all posible problems with the chain (cutting the engine head, broken guides and timing issues) Thanks Lada Power!

This tensioner is at least one mm longer than the hydraulic one. This compensates for the accumulated wear of the timing components after 100 000 km or so. It doesn't worth replacing the rings and the chain. You can just use this tensioner and change the plastic components that are the weak points of engine timing. In my case the dumper was busted because of this startup lack of tension. When I bought the old lada I drove it without knowing this. Someone had removed the dumper before and the car worked without it. I had engine missfires and in the end decided to open the cranck case. Then I found a little plastic piece from the damper that was still in there. I replaced the dumper and the shoe and continue with the hidraulic tensioner. The rattle still remained at start for 2 seconds or so. However I decided to use the pilot tensioner because it might have broken the damper again. The missfires disappeared and the engine sound is ok now. One question about this lada engine: If you open the oil cap there is huge blowby (engine compression fine). I noticed this on several lada's with over 100 000 km. Is this normal?

I installed one also after the same rattle you hear, much better now! Apparently the timing chain can hit the housing due to lack of oil pressure . Just my 5 cents 😊
Hallo Jürgen. Wir haben Einen 2016er Niva, hatte auch immer gerasselt. Jetzt ist der Beruhiger gebrochen. Würde wirklich zeitnahe auf den Mechanischen Spanner umrüsten. War auch die Empfehlung von Lada Schnittger aus Vlotho. LG Benjamin
Dank dir für deine Rückmeldung. Ja ich habe schon vor einiger Zeit Umgerüstet. Ging ratz fatz und das rasseln ist weg. Warum auch immer die Ingenieure so ein Mist einbauen. Vielleicht wollten die auch mal was modernisieren. Bei BMW zB ist der schon in den 80ziger Hydraulisch u mit Feder. Und das funzt ein Leben lang. Aber egal so lange man es so einfach beheben kann ist es top. Grüße Jürgen

It works after you start engine and oil pressure pushes piston out of the tensioner. Automatic tensioner works all the time and does not need oil pressure so it is one item less to be feed by oil pressure (more oil pressure lefts for hydraulic lifters, etc.).

Hey, in having some problems with my Lada niva and in not sure what's wrong with it, but could fix it if I knew what it is. Whenever I accelerate and then let go of the throttle the gearsticks shake so bad that it makes banging sounds like the transmission is hitting the sides of the tunnel thing it's in. I've got some videos if you want to have a look at them. Do you have WhatsApp or something similar where I can contact you?

The 2021 year, 82000 km mileage - Tensioner works perfectly!
The 2022 year, 100000 km mileage (85000 km dome with the new tensioner) - Tensioner works perfectly!

On my 2006 niva, tensioner stayed short so the chain cried. And we used welding machine to lengthen it. Engine works perfect! Thanks
This automatic tensioner (and LiquiMoly aditive for hydraulic lifters) solved my problem with lifters noise. I recomend it for every Niva MPI owner.

I'm having the same problem with my lada. Did you fix it? And what was the problem?
I had similar problem, transfer case was vibrating very badly. The cause was bad CV joint on layshaft.
