This song literally makes me want to sit here bawling my eyes out because it was JUST THE BEGINNING of Rose/Ten and when you think of all they went through and then how it all ended its so bittersweet because they're about to have so many amazing experiences and then Doomsday happens and then Journey's End and idk its 1am maybe I should just go to bed.
It was bittersweet indeed, the Doctor hates goodbyes and never got to give her a proper goodbye in Journey’s End but at least look at the bright side, he gave her the meta crisis Doctor which is the best gift he could have ever given her because there’s no way the Doctor could ever live a simple life like that and settle down. At least Rose and the meta crisis Doctor will grow old together, get married, have kids and live happily ever after in the end. Something the Doctor could never do. That’s his curse, he’s the lonely god in a box.
It sounds so much like all the classic British Christmas songs (Slade, etc). That's what was so good about this, and SO disappointing to hear the lame version we got on the official soundtrack.
Just watched The Christmas Invasion, properly live on TV for the first time since 2005. December 23rd, 2019. I had tears several times. None more so than when this scene arrived. When Chris, David, Billie, Noel, John and Camille were there along with Murray’s unforgettable music and Russell’s vision, this programme was my entire world when I was young. This song is emblematic to that entire pocket of time. It’s hard to listen to. It represents something I loved that just isn’t there anymore and hasn’t been for over a decade now. I wish I had a Tardis so I could go back to 2005 and 2006, and see their impact again. The only word I can use for it is special. It was truly special. The programme was like a friend holding your shoulder that you could depend on. I’m thankful for every meeting and every discussion that gave it life. I’m thankful for the staff’s hours of work to make something fantastic. I’m thankful for the smiles it still brings. I’ll always have that era and I’ll always hold it close. Things don’t last forever and that is heartbreaking. Times change, but all we can do is admire times gone by and remember the joy they brought.
It hurts even more now reading this lol, I miss this era so much! My only regret (something I couldn’t help) is that I was too little to even remember most of it because I was too young and hadn’t even started primary school until late 2007 when I was 5. So I only got up to about halfway through year 2 with David Tennant as the Doctor until Matt Smith came along in Easter 2010 whom I was also excited about at the time and bought the action figures, Dr Who magazines, the trading cards, and the toy of his sonic screwdriver as I did with Tennant’s in the previous years, sneaking it into school via my bookbag as did my friends so we could all play Doctor Who on the playground. I lost two sonic screwdrivers there lol, my first 10th Doctor’s one broke from being dropped too many times and the other from the Sonic Screwdriver and Psychic Paper set was confiscated by my teacher never to be seen again.. But I digress, anyways so I enjoyed Matt Smith’s first season but after that the show just wasn’t ever the same again. I still watched it though and stuck by it for many years, well into the Capaldi era in Secondary School in my early teens but stopped in 2017 as soon as Jodie was cast of course. But yeah, the majority of my school years growing up were in the Matt Smith era so I remember that more sadly. Don’t get me wrong, his era was also very popular and exciting as the show was also at its peak then in terms of viewing figures, but for me personally it never felt as exciting or enjoyable as the Tennant era did. I carried on rewatching the Tennant era DVDs (still do) in all those years during Smith’s run of course but I never really got to experience enough of the feeling of watching Tennant’s episodes on TV for the first time when they originally would have aired back on those Saturday nights of the early 2000s, having no idea of what was going to happen.. Instead I got that experience for the wrong eras! Instead I got Smith’s and Capaldi’s runs but they never had the magic that the Tennant era did for me, so I kinda feel I missed out really. ☹️ I only have a few very vague memories of watching some of Tennant’s episodes when they first aired from ‘Partners in Crime’, ‘The Fires Of Pompeii’, both parts of ‘The End Of Time’, ‘Water of Mars’, ‘Planet Of The Dead’, ‘The Next Doctor’, ‘Voyage Of The Damned’, perhaps ‘Smith and Jones’, and maybe even the 3 parter with the Master at the end of Series 3 but that’s about it though. Even then they’re all very vague memories that are tiny bits from each episode that I barely remember seeing on the TV on the nigh they first aired. The specials like ‘The End Of Time’ and ‘The Water Of Mars’ etc are the only ones I can remember well. The ‘Water Of Mars’ kept my sister and I up all night that day 😂
@@BrightIslandCreative I think so but I think they just meant it was was one of the first episodes they watched when they got into it bc it’s pretty early on.

You probably have the version that was sung by Neil Hannon, who performed this song as well as "love don´t roam" on the official soundtrack - he is the one mentioned on the cover of the album. This version here was sung by Tim Philips and only appeared in "The Christmas Invasion" and thus sadly was never released anywhere.
