The entity isn't the real monster of the story; humans are. That's why we never find out what, exactly, it is.
The entity learnt everything it knew from the people it met which begs the question was it infact the humans decision to throw sky and the doctor out that taught the creature that it should kill. Like you say the humans were the real monsters in this story not the entity.

I was always wondering how much work they put into this episode. But it was totally worth it - one of the best episodes of the modern Doctor.
I hope Lesley Sharp won an award for this episode because she has some of the hardest lines I've ever seen an actor need to know. Freaking pi to thirty digits and in sync with David. Plus did such an awesome job as a foreign entity that is wickedly scary.
I learned the first 30 digits of the square root of pi because of this episode. First 9 were already learned because of Rick and Morty, so it was a little bit easier.

This is the most underrated DW episode. Blink isn't the finest DW episode, Midnight is. And Russell managed to scare the crap out of me without even SHOWING me a monster.

Luckily Russel is now going to be the script writer. So... there’ll be episodes that will scare the crap out of you.
This is easily my favourite episode of all of Doctor Who. It was the scariest episode in my opinion, not just because we didn't know what the monster/alien was, but because it really showed how humankind reacts to danger. Our strongest instinct is survival and if we feel that it might be threatened, we would start killing anything that could represent any potential danger. In this case, it was the alien inside Sky and then it was the Doctor. Also, it was truly terrifying to see the Doctor in that situation. He was completely alone with no companion or any ally. He lost control of his own speech and body and became completely helpless as that creature violated his mind, and then was dragged and almost thrown out to his inevitable death by the very people he'd saved and risked his life hundreds of times for. So I applaud everyone who's worked on it for delivering such a strong and terrifying story.
I totally agree!! He was so alone and helpless and he's THE DOCTOR!
What I like is that in the end, the Doctor could not save the day; he had to rely on the fact that what he had said earlier resonated with two of the passengers, while the others manipulated what he had said to feed their panic.

Very twilight zone esc doctor who episode
For me one of the best episodes ever! Brilliant plot - a perfect study of human nature under stress. And acted out just great. All this talking in sync. Hard but excellent work for actors AND editors! They should have get an award for that episode!

So much creeper than Blink, but that could just because I already knew all about the Weeping Angels beforehand. This must've been such a production nightmare. As someone who's had to do similar types of editing, I can testify to how long this must've taken in post.

This was a vile episode, and one of the best of any series of Dr Who. Most Dr Who shows the best of humanity, even when you have bad guys, but this one was too close to reality, fat too believable, and for that it was perfect science fiction. Absolutely loved it. Thanks for the upload
They probably had to shoot "Bananas" and "Oh, Doctor, you're so handsome-yes I am, thank you" a ton of times cuz I bet they kept laughing at those.
One of my top 5 episodes of the modern Doctor Who.
One of the most depressing but well written, thoughtful DW scripts. Much as I like aliens and new planets, these contained scenes of human interactions are so thought provoking of the RTD era.
Also *David Troughton!* David Tennant at least got to work with the Second Doctor's son.
Literally the best ever doctor who episode of all time. So clever also I love the touch of how Dee Dee is actually more intelligent than the professor

Would be interesting to have him play the second Doctor in some "wibbly wobbly timey-wimey" episode.
In the next episode the First Doctor is going to appear again (Played by David Bradley) in the time just before he regenerates, so we might see a recast Second Doctor too!
I have such a respect for sound recordists/mixers. Y’all have the hardest job on set.
Watching this episode I was in awe of how complicated it must have been to film, but I had no idea just how hard!
I have to say that this episode's script and performances were immaculate. I don't think I've ever seen a Doctor Who story with such a strong core cast of characters. The fact that in a 45-minute episode, you can look at any character and get a real sense of who they are is amazing. They are all so unique in how they react to the situation and the way they interact and feed off one another's energy feels incredibly raw and authentic.
Midnight isn't just an ordinary Doctor Who episode. It's a fully fledged suspense/psychological horror film with a well thought out entity and a central theme exploring the human nature.
I was in the middle of watching this episode for like the 5th time when I decided to search for this video because I just had to know how they pulled this off. Such talented actors and crew. This is insane!
Wow, just goes to show that the credit for a great show really should be thrown everywhere. "The crew" doesn't really cut it does it?

Jesus Christ! O.o What a huge load of work for everyone... It's the first DW episode I ever saw and it remains one of my favourite ones to this day. And it's got no monsters, no fancy special effects, not even much of a gigantic spacey planet, no alien race (other than the Doctor) - and yet it's gnuinely awe-some. The incredible suspense created by the actors and the script - no wonder I got hooked after this.
Incredibly fascinating stuff. This makes me appreciate how seamless and brilliant the episode was even more. Thanks for sharing!
This is one of my Top 10 favorite episodes of all time.
One of my favorite episodes EVER! It's so creepy, especially because of the music! I especially love it because of how it focused on how humans behave in such a situation. It may be science fiction, but the way everyone reacts to these situations and how they planned on dealing with them while the Doctor tries to keep everyone calm is so realistic and all done in a single location, and at no point does it ever get boring.

I always wondered how they managed that! Plus the scene where they're talking right at each other simultaneously and moving in sync makes me hold my breath all the time. Gotta wonder how many takes it took because somebody stuttered or giggled. XD
Like 12 Angry Men if a monster attacked. I'd be pissed too if someone turned my uninhabited planet into Las Vegas.
Also, I love it when guest stars come on and nail it.

Damn, for a bottle episode that’s a lot of work! But definitely worth it- Midnight captures the fear of the unknown perfectly, using the uncanny valley to devastating effect. One of the scariest episodes of New Who, if not *the* scariest.

ThatCringeCalledIggleboz: Yeah, Dean Thomas was Ian Chesterton's grandson. However, Dudley was played by the Second Doctor's grandson. I love how much crossover there is between those two franchises, hah.
this is one of my favorite Tennant's Doctor Who episodes besides Blink, because it shows how, despite having control over the whole of space and time, with all of his cleverness and skills and gadgets, there are still things that The Doctor is powerless against; and it's amazing to watch what that feeling is doing to him psychologically. This episode is simple yet brilliant, and the Doctor will never be the same again after this.
I feel like the other thing with memorizing pi and doing it in sync that might be overlooked is there's no room to draw a breath, you can't breathe
This episode should get way more praise than it does IMO. It may just be my favorite in the entire series, at least as far as the revival. Seeing how they did this is fascinating.
This is, in my opinion, the best episode in terms of creativity, writing and performance. There were characters that irritated you to the core, characters that creeped the living crap out of you and all the while you’re convincing yourself that this is in fact a show, because the performance of the two is just outstanding. Flipping pioneers and perfectionists.

A nightmare for editing for sure but worth the effort, they created a classic, easily a stand out episode and they didnt even need to use special effects or monsters, just actors doing thier job.

I think RTD's idea was to show that Alien's can be dangerous to us but humans are much more of a danger to ourselves under pressure.
