Apologies for slow response. The cheeseplate is by Smallrig, here is the link on Amazon amzn.to/3UyFg21 There is also the holder for the powerbank should you need it amzn.to/3WCzqyv Hope this helps
Hi there, thanks for this video. I own a Canon R5C which has a separate menu for the video settings and cannot seem to get livestream working with OBS. I heard that I'll need a capture card in order for livestream to work. Would you know anything about this? I want to make sure before I go out and purchase one then find out it doesn't work. I've also enquired with Canon but they don't seem to have an answer for me since the R5C is a fairly new camera. Thanks in advance for your response!
I hope you're enjoying the R5C, I want one but they are only on pre-order. So the device I have been using is the Elgato Cam Link 4K to capture into my MacBook Pro but it also works on other laptops. It is USB 3 but if you have a USB-C use an adaptor to connect. That is what I do. You can get them on Amazon and I just checked, it is reduced today 12th July and tomorrow, it might be where you are too. Here's a link amzn.to/3yVnwpF
Hey Gary, does the r5 or r6 record at the same time to an SD card while also using the camera to stream? I can't seem to find an answer online anywhere.
Good question. Yes, it does. I have recorded at the same time. It's not like outputting raw to a Ninja V or something like that. However, I have recorded on the Ninja V, not in raw, at the same time as live streaming. So connect camera to Ninja V and then from the Ninja V output to device for live streaming.
Hi Gary, thank you for making these videos it helped me a lot. I have some questions about conference livestreaming. I have an R6 but I don't have an Atomos Ninja yet but deciding on getting one. My situation is I am doing a conference coverage where they need me to just be a camera op and don't need to record just live feed from my camera to their big screen on stage. Will the HDMI out from atomos show the same info I have on my camera? Like, the autofocus box, SS, aperture and so on. What tips do you have for me here? The job I am doing is 3 days 3 hours each.
Hi, thanks for getting touch and nice to know that was helpful. To get a clean image from the HDMI without the display showing all the settings you need to be in movie mode, press menu and in the camera settings, the first tab, go to tab 8 and in there is an option for HDMI display, choose the option that has both the camera and monitor option. One thing I found useful is the cage and attaching the micro HDMI to HDMI adaptor, it feels way more secure and can have a longer cable. It is the same cage as the R5, I think I put a link to it in the description. Personally I always record it but whoever is live streaming might be recording it anyway just in case the live stream has an issue. Do let me know other things you would like to know as trying to build a resource here with these videos. Hope the conference goes well. Gary
@@EssentialVideoSkills thank you that solved my problem with the clean hdmi out. I still need the Ninja V in order to get a 3 hours non stop stream, right? Is there any benefit in covering a conference in 4K? Will my R6 overheat if I do 4k with atomos at 24fps? Sorry I have too many questions. I have a cage but will probably get the micro Hdmi adapter to attach to the cage.
No problem at all. The advantage of 4K is just future proof and cropping in afterwards if you need to edit. Although I think the colour looks better in 4K. But the file size is much more. With the new Wirecast and OBS if they are using that they can crop in during the live stream as probably only using HD. Both now allow 4K capture. I did two videos this week on that, they are both on my channel. Sorry, responding on the phone so fiddly to get the links. The Ninja now allows you to record H265 so file size is a lot better but less grading etc possible. I have run my R5 for hours on the Ninja V without it overheating and in 4K. I reckon the R6 will do the same. That HDMI adaptor made me feel more confident about the connection using a full size cable. Absolutely no problem with the questions.
@@EssentialVideoSkills Hi Gary thanks a lot for that video especially that micro to hdmi adapter (that's God send). Was wondering what settings do you use on your R5 during livestreaming since you can't shoot in raw/grade etc and yet you need the images to look good syrsight from camera but not too contrasty. Many thanks for your reply.
I don't use log and just set the camera to manual and adjust for exposure. I don't adjust any profiles of colour. I find the live stream seems to remove a bit of colour information.
I have a canon r6 mark ii. I plugged my HP laptop usb-c charger that powers my laptop into the usb-c port on my camera and my camera would not work. I could not take pictures or video. Screen says camera is on "standby". I had a HLX-E6NH battery in my camera. I then changed my battery to an LP-E6NH. Still didn't work. I live stream often on my channel and I want to start using my canon instead of my laptop camera, but I need continual power for hours and the battery just can't keep up...nor do I want to keep changing the battery in the middle of the stream. I am considering getting that power delivery bank you have from Anker, but if my camera won't work when plugged into my laptop charger...why will it work when plugged into the pd bank you have? Any thoughts on why? Any help would be great.
That is interesting. I had used my USB-C power supply from my MacBook Pro with my R6 Mark II and it was fine. Do you know someone with a different USB-C charger to check it. Maybe someone with a MacBook as I know it worked with mine. I have also used an Anker 60W USB-C charger.
Anyone know if the R6 will allow power over USB-C while it is turned on. I have found that it will only charge the battery if the camera is turned off.
The USB-C will power R6 when on but not charge the battery, it doesn't do both at the same time. I have found if battery is flat you need to charge it before a bit before you can then power it. It won't power with a flat battery. That's my experience with R5 and should be the same for the R6.
Thank you so much Gary. It has now been a year since this question started to bug me.
My pleasure.
Thank you for making this video. I learned a lot today.
Hi Gary, Which cheese plate did you use on top? if you could add a link to that on Amazon, that would be fantastic!

any idea how to livestream while on the go if you were outside walking around a city for example
If you want to do it from the camera you are probably looking at a Teradek Vidiu Go. teradek.com/collections/vidiu-go-family
Using this setup, can the R6 live stream and record on the ninja V at the same time?
Yes, I have done this with both the R and R5, it would be the same for the R6. Always test it out in advance.
