Very good orientation, thanks! In my situation, you helped me to notice that it’s too much technical consideration for me. So will need to consider a simple web cam. 👍

That is only partially true. Yes you can use the canon EOS Webcam Utility - however, that does not provide audio to your computer and it also does not provide 4k (not even 1080p). I have a comparison of the cam link vs. the Usb solution on my channel here: ua-cam.com/video/HEZl2YlWMek/v-deo.html So the usb solution works. That is right. Newer cameras often have these modes to be able to use them as UVC (Webcam) cameras. However, many limit the resolution (though I am not sure what the R6 Mark II does here). TBH: If I would not have two EOS R cameras at this time, I'd go straight for the R6 Mark II and buy that one, since it's a much more capable camera on the video side. Especially with the 6-hour record limit!
When using the video capture, do you need a memory to be inserted in the camera?? Because I have a Canon 700D and the memory card port does not work, please let me know this is an option.

There is a setting in the Video settings of the R type cameras which is "auto power off" and you have to set this to "never" or whatever the menu options are.
I want to connect my EOS R to android tablet S8 ultra ; to use it as a monitor for my cam . how can I get the best quality 4k results?? And do u recommend a specific Vedio capture card ???
If it is possible to use a UVC type camera model (aka a usb webcam), then you could use something like the CamLink 4k which is a very nice HDMI capture card. Though, if you only want to use it as a monitor, I also wouldn't mind using less than 4k since the S8 Ultra screen is not big enough to really see a huge difference between 4k and 1080p.
You can run the mic through the camera. My partner uses that setup with the rode wireless go for yoga sessions. Personally, I mostly use the Zoom F6 and the Oktava MK 012 or the Shure Beta 57a (for podcasts) and those are connected via XLR to the F6 and that via USB to the MacBook. The downside however is that there is a couple milliseconds difference in the video which you don’t have when using the mic connected to the camera directly. Happy streaming. 🌸
Hi Chris. When I use OBS for recording or live streaming, I always get the autofocus square following me around and I can't seem to switch it off unless I use the EOS utility desktop all and run it in the background. Is there a way to live stream via the Canon EOS R directly into OBS without having to open the Canon Utility app? If so, how can I remove the white square that follows me around. Also another comment on the tutorial, you went through a lot of camera functions fairly quickly and it was very tough to catch up..
Thank you for your feedback 🌸 that's always interesting to read (funny enough: I recently have been getting a lot of comments from people telling me to speed things up 🙈 - who knows how that's gonna go). In terms of video capture and the white square: What you are seeing there can have two reasons. One is that you are not in video mode but in photo mode. You can switch between them by pressing the mode dial and then info to get into video shooting mode. Then there is another setting where you can switch the HDMI display setting between "internal + clean external" and "external with display info". You will want to chose the "Internal + Clean External" setting. That setting may be hard to find, it's also not really in those words, but it's there I'm sure. Just can't confirm right now. With that you will get a clean HDMI signal which you then capture with whatever HDMI video capturing device you'd like to use.
@@ChrisSpiegl thanks Chris! I will give it a try. yes I was in photo mode and not video mode.. As for the HDMI, I couldn't find that setting.. I thought I had the Canon EOSR but I have the EOS RP.. I know I wasn't impressed with myself when I realized I couldn't read the type of my camera correctly.. anyway :) Is there another function/ path to get a clean HDMI signal for the EOS RP?
@@ConversationswithLoulou Great, that's one step closer I guess. Here is a video that shows the settings on the EOS RP as far as I can see: ua-cam.com/video/f-RliOOyDCM/v-deo.html Hope that helps.
The super expensive Elgato capture cards (or other brands) are no longer needed for Most recent Canon DSLRs and mirrorless cameras: in early May Canon USA released a beta version of ‘eos utility’ which allows a lot of Canon cameras to be used as webcams in OBS studio, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc. It does not cover all models at the time of release, and it is low Rez: 1024x576 for my 6D Mark II which still looks way way better than laptop webcams or other webcams. Users report being able to use this in the US (obviously), Britain and Canada (I suspect it works if your region’s set up is ‘English’. Works for me in Canada. CameraLabs channel did an hour long live stream with this set up a few days ago.
The CamLink 4k is still great - but very expensive. There are way cheaper alternatives on the market I would recommend to buy. They may not provide 4k but most people also don't need that and are fine with a 1080p signal. So… yea, overall still a great setup and one we use every week.
Hello Chris! Can you message how I can live stream my kids football games to UA-cam, Facebook or Instagram? Is that even an option to do? I have a canon EOS r10. Do I have to get the items you’re speaking of on this video? I have a laptop to take to games if I need to. But prefer not to. Please let me know. Thank you in advance
You could live stream directly from your phone. There are streaming apps / or you use the UA-cam app straight up. Alternatively, you can connect the R10 to your laptop via USB and it can work as a camera for the live stream as well. I am not 100% (I don't own the R10) you may need to download a Canon Webcam utility to connect the camera.
At 2:20 you mention that you could use the USB connection w/ EOS Utility but say "that's not what we're going for." I'm confused as to why not save the money on a capture card and instead just use the USB connect with EOS Utility to get to a live stream? Is there a difference in quality? I'm just not sure why you would have EOS Utility available and then not use it.
Can you please suggest best lens for Can EOS R Camera 🎥 ? and I’m currently using default one 24-105mm f/4-7.1 Lens (3075C032) ,so, I would like to buy some advanced lens for this Camera, please suggest on it. Thank you 🙏
Suggestions like this are basically never possible because I and anyone else do not know your main use case. The best thing you can do is look which focal length you use most and then look what Canon has on offer in those areas. For example: you use your 24-105 mostly in the 24 - 35mm range? Maybe it'd be great to get the 15-35mm f/2.8? Or you mostly use 70-105? Could look into the 70-200mm f/4 or f/2.8. Or you look for primes in the most used focal length areas. Like: a fixed 35mm, 50mm, or 85mm.
Mine is the Canon EOS R - no number. It was the first canon Mirrorless and it still has the mini HDMI instead of the micro. Luckily the cable clamp 🗜️ is pretty good on the newer cameras to hold the micro hdmi in place.
This depends on the type of content you want to produce. But generally, we are not used to seeing human motion at 60fps, and thus it is just added frames which are then a matter of storage, processing power, and data transfer rate. If you are sitting in front of your computer talking about something, or even showing an instrument, or drawing instructions on a white board, 24 - 30 fps would be absolutely enough.
Hey man! Thanks for video! Some questions, maybe you tried: 1. Has it any sense to use CLog3 over Cam Link 4k? 2. Can Ninja V increase quality? 3. How to reduce "digital" look and have more cinemtic look over Cam Link 4k? Thanks in advance.
From one of the shots that you showed in the video, it's quite redundant to use a slip on pop filter with another pop filter held in front of the mic - especially when that pop filter is touching the microphone. Otherwise, nice video.
Shouldn't be touching the mic as far as I remember and the sound was better with both used in conjunction. But I get your point. Hope you found this video helpful.
Thank you for the video. Very informative and actionable content. I've been following these steps using the cam link 4k and a canon eos r and dummy battery. Everything was going well with the setup. The problem begins after the dummy battery is plugged in. The moment that the cam link plugs in to the computer's usb port, my canon eos r screen goes blank & PC does not recognise the camera. Changing the camera settings doesn't seem to help. Can someone tell me how to fix this? I've been working on it for a while with no success. Thanks
The Canon EOS R can be charged via USB-C. BUT it will only charge when it is turned off. The camera can not be powered by USB-C you will need a so called Dummy Battery to do that.
Hello How can I make the camera not showing off after "x" minutes?(i don't press record,i'm only stay at the image with my face). I use canon2000d with camlink, and I put auto off in disable but.... the same camera goes in standby :(
There are many reasons. Nowadays I have updated my knowledge and learned that for live streaming 30 fps is probably a better frame rate since at least UA-cam forces that anyways. However, 60fps isn't always just "better" because it is more frames per second. But it's also about looks and light. With 60fps you'll have less light to capture per frame so you need a brighter scene, and it can look unnatural compared to a movie for example. For gameplay that is a different situation but for talking head or other personal streams I will stick to 30fps or 24fps. Here is a video that very nicely demonstrates Frame-Rates and Shutter Speeds as well: ua-cam.com/video/UPPSdCrqcFQ/v-deo.html
@@ChrisSpiegl wait a minute... i have no shutter angle in menu, i have shutter, is it the same? If yes. you wanna say, that 30fps with 1/60 will looks better then 60fps with 1/125?
@@Palsanch yes, if you don’t have shutter angle - most mirrorless and DSLR cameras don’t. Then the setting you’ll need to set is shutter speed. And there you usually are aiming for a 180 degree angle which is double the frame rate. So as you wrote. At 24fps you usually go for 1/50th. And I personally find that 24 or 30fps just looks more natural than 60fps for humans in frame. Again, computer screens and stuff may be different.
@@ChrisSpiegl so finally i have no manual mode in my videocameras, which i trying to use as a webcam. I can only set fps (50i, 50P, 25p) and on 25p can set "quality" FX or FH. And on 50i van set "quality" FX, FH, HQ, LP, and 50p no any options just 50p, therefore cannot test anything. Will try with photocameras... somehow... may be for me will be fine Canon M200...
I would take the Zoom H4n and connect it to the Computer via USB and then use that as my microphone. But if you don't want to do that, you can also use the Line-Out of the Zoom H4n and connect that to your camera and use that. The Elgato CamLink does provide the sound from the cameras mic to the computer. So that works either way. Good luck.
Sorry, can you please explain Fps I didn't understand. I am a live streamer and want to stream in 1920×1080 60fps so what should I choose is camera and shutter speed to get it?Thank you

Brother pls can u help me my question to u is capture card has 2 side so In camera which cable we need and other side of elgato which we connect to pc at that side which cable we need pls answer.
The Capture card probably has one HDMI port and a USB stick looking side. The USB-Stick looking one is going to the PC and the HDMI side is the one where you have the connection to your camera. The cable you need depends on your camera because some have mini HDMI or micro HDMI ports and the capture cards usually have full size HDMI ports.

Great video. How to disable the auto track, or the eye track symbol?
When using the video capture, do you need a memory to be inserted in the camera?? Because I have a Canon 700D and the memory card port does not work, please let me know this is an option.
We use it without a capture card all the time. However, that's with the Canon EOS R. So, it may work, or it might not.
Hello Chris, Great video, thanks!
I am using Canon R7 camera for Facebook livestream and I am having an issue, my camera goes to sleep after 30 min. Could you please tell me what I should do to avoid this.
My live-streamings are usually longer than 30 min.
Please help! Thanks.
There is a setting in the Video settings of the R type cameras which is "auto power off" and you have to set this to "never" or whatever the menu options are.
Nice Video! What glass are you using?
Chris Spiegl Awesome! Yes the RF are amazing!
This is great! Thanks, Chris. What about sound? Do you run a mic through your camera as well?
In terms of video capture and the white square:
What you are seeing there can have two reasons.
Here is a video that shows the settings on the EOS RP as far as I can see: ua-cam.com/video/f-RliOOyDCM/v-deo.html
Hope that helps.
@@ChrisSpiegl OMG!! You have no idea how helpful this is!! I spent hours googling trying to find a solution.. thank you so so much

Chris can this be used with a cell phone like the Note 9?

Will the canon c70 work with the camlink 4k?
Looks like it's been 3 years since this vid, is this still the optimal setup?
The CamLink 4k is still great - but very expensive. There are way cheaper alternatives on the market I would recommend to buy. They may not provide 4k but most people also don't need that and are fine with a 1080p signal. So… yea, overall still a great setup and one we use every week.
Can you still use the camera zoom?
Not sure why this would not work? This only takes the signal that is coming out of the HDMI port and converts it into a webcam.
How do you get rid of shut offs after 30 mins
You have to setup the power saving settings in the camera:

Hey Chris! Great video! What dummy battery did you use for the EOS R & what was the outlet device you plugged into? Thanks!!!
@@ChrisSpiegl Thank you ,Brother.
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for your comment here.
How has your R6 got a large HDMI cable port? Mines got the stupid tiiiiiny one
Mine is the Canon EOS R - no number. It was the first canon Mirrorless and it still has the mini HDMI instead of the micro.
Luckily the cable clamp 🗜️ is pretty good on the newer cameras to hold the micro hdmi in place.
Question why would I not want 1080 60fps? Why would I use 24fps?
This depends on the type of content you want to produce. But generally, we are not used to seeing human motion at 60fps, and thus it is just added frames which are then a matter of storage, processing power, and data transfer rate. If you are sitting in front of your computer talking about something, or even showing an instrument, or drawing instructions on a white board, 24 - 30 fps would be absolutely enough.
Hey man! Thanks for video!
Some questions, maybe you tried:
1. Has it any sense to use CLog3 over Cam Link 4k?
2. Can Ninja V increase quality?
3. How to reduce "digital" look and have more cinemtic look over Cam Link 4k?
Thanks in advance.
1. I would not.
2. There will likely be little to no change (if any it would get worse).
3. Use a camera with a bigger sensor.
@@ChrisSpiegl thanks!
@@edon2005 Watch this video and see what an eos R can do with a Ninja 5. You are welcome. ua-cam.com/video/8iUSLOt8GJY/v-deo.html
Hi do you know if Software Camtasia studio support elgato cam link 4k?
@@ChrisSpiegl ok thank you for the answer
Can this legato be used for making say a youtube video? Many thanks for your response
Yes, absolutely
Thank you for the video. Very informative and actionable content. I've been following these steps using the cam link 4k and a canon eos r and dummy battery. Everything was going well with the setup. The problem begins after the dummy battery is plugged in. The moment that the cam link plugs in to the computer's usb port, my canon eos r screen goes blank & PC does not recognise the camera. Changing the camera settings doesn't seem to help. Can someone tell me how to fix this? I've been working on it for a while with no success. Thanks
Which software are you using?
I didn't understand. Can we charge the camera via USB form the port or not?
The Canon EOS R can be charged via USB-C.
BUT it will only charge when it is turned off.
The camera can not be powered by USB-C you will need a so called Dummy Battery to do that.
Hello How can I make the camera not showing off after "x" minutes?(i don't press record,i'm only stay at the image with my face).
I use canon2000d with camlink, and I put auto off in disable but.... the same camera goes in standby :(
I’m having this same issue it just goes to standby
why 24 frame per second? 60 fraim looks much better, isnt it?
If yes. you wanna say, that 30fps with 1/60 will looks better then 60fps with 1/125?
will try... and 24fps with 1/50
@@Palsanch yes, if you don’t have shutter angle - most mirrorless and DSLR cameras don’t.
Hi, what is with better sound, mic? Can I connect mic od zoom h4n pro and output to eos r, for better audio?
I would take the Zoom H4n and connect it to the Computer via USB and then use that as my microphone. But if you don't want to do that, you can also use the Line-Out of the Zoom H4n and connect that to your camera and use that. The Elgato CamLink does provide the sound from the cameras mic to the computer. So that works either way. Good luck.
Sorry, can you please explain Fps I didn't understand. I am a live streamer and want to stream in 1920×1080 60fps so what should I choose is camera and shutter speed to get it?Thank you
Can you do Canon EOS R to ninja to elgato?
I'm interested to know what camera you are using now to shoot this video. I've been trying to get the kind of setup clarity you have now with the m50 to no avail. Would appreciate any comments and how this can be achieved. I want the front to be lit up like yours but the back to be a bit dark.
I am using the Canon EOS R camera. I sometimes one sometimes two lights in front of me and the back is light up with the Aputure MC lights.
The cable you need depends on your camera because some have mini HDMI or micro HDMI ports and the capture cards usually have full size HDMI ports.
i want to ask how can i live stream on youtube ,can this method work because am supposed to have a stream by tomorrow kindly can you help me on how i can stream on youtube if i have a laptop a sony camera and an elgato cam link 4k please help me😪😪😪😪
I currently use my EOS REBEL T7 , through its USB port , rather then using the mini hdmi with a capture card attached , this works ok for me , but I’m looking to get the cam link because although it works most of the time , it caps me at a certain cam quality and says I need to buy the EOS Webcam utility premium to unlock the full 1080 at 60 FPS .
Depending on what you are doing, whatever quality you currently get is probably fine and you should improve in other areas first.
