You have an amazing ability to teach, capture the feeling and joy of speech, convey that it can be fun if kept simple. Wishing you and yours much happiness. Thank you for taking time to do this.
Я только что открыла для себя ваш канал, и он идеально подходит для моего уровня, не слишком сложный и не слишком простой. И очень интересно, спасибо 😍😍😍
Privet Maria ! I really like your videos and your love for the Russian language is obvious and contagious! I have been a beginner for forty years and it is now a project for my retirement years. I will follow your videos and advice religiously!
Thank you for these videos - I've recently had to stop taking Russian classes due to a busy schedule, and these videos (along with Mosfilm and some books a friend loaned me) are helping me keep up with learning the language. Tremendously valuable stuff.
First, I want to say. .. you're a great teacher! This is my seventh year now studying Russian, and it now makes sense to have some basic grammar. Before this time, I just didn't need it, and couldn't grasp it - but now studying grammar - the cases is really helping me make sentence that our complicated. Okay, with all that said... I wish that you would make RUSSIAN SUBTIILES because then I can read and listen to you... copy down whole sentences that you make and come back and listen and talk out loud with you. You're just such a great person, and that makes it fun to study with you! )) Hope this comment is helpful! )))))
Well, you mentioned some good points, but I think one can avoid learning grammar in case he/she is surrounded by native speakers environment, listening to their speech and conversing with them on a daily basis, making lots of mistakes and asking you friends to correct you. If there's no one to correct you - you're baffled and often misled of whether you learn particular stuff the right way. Listening is a huge tool to improve your comprehension skills, especially if you're self-taught. But having learned some grammar stuff beforehand (I mean going through some analysis) - your listening/watching practice is twice as effective because you kinda know what to anticipate in the speech, you then don't get too confused about grammar cases etc, because your brain already tells you - 'Oh yeah, I know why she said "я вижу книгУ" and not "книгА"', grammar structures find such confirmation easier, based on the knowledge you can already rely on, since you've got familiar with grammar outlines in written materials and gone through thinking routine. These days we're so much bombarded with info, but, again, I can't, as you put it, "just speak", say, in Chinese (even if I'm eager to) if I just watch and listen - I feel must sit down and analyse the stuff before I say a meaningful phrase. Learning merely by listening is a one-sided parrot-way approach: the bird can speak but its delivery is not meaningful. Everything may seem easy to a native speaker but not a foreigner from our point of view. 4 means of drills should be considered to be effective - reading, listening, speaking and writing. Yes, we can distribute our time among these differently, depending on the goals we set for a particular language, but, nevertheless, 4 of them must be considered. And yes, we can never be perfect, so Russian grammar shouldn't be the obstacle for you guys - you can have a slight review of it (no need to have profound knowledge when you just starting out), but can't avoid it at all! All the best! (Sorry, I still have a lot more to say, but it's a long post already) :)
You're a very good teacher Maria, everyone learns differently , if I'm having trouble learning , I can't blame someone else for problems I'm having, sometimes learning a language is hard, it takes a lot of effort and many times people become frustrated because they wish " life" itself was easier , well who doesn't , but once you've mastered the language , you will look back at the effort the teacher made that others could learn and your respect and love for the teacher will be far greater than now.
Uncle Boom --- Which one is the `Highlight` button? I tried ctrl > v with no success. The Ctrl + V will only paste the text or object that's in the clipboard.
O! I adore your videos, you're right because all that you say it's true ) t it's the best way to learn a language :) I'm spanish speaker and I try to understand russian grammar but it's very difficult (( happily thanks to your method I improved a lot in my learning) Thanks for all )) Greetings from Chile
Hello from Romania! Keep up the good work! You are teaching what they call ”comprehensive learning”! I started to learn Russian via English since about 2 weeks and I plan to have fun at it! I do not know how to use my keyboard for typing Russian. Probably I should buy a Russian keyboard. Paka paka!
There is no need to do that if you are using Windows or Linux. Simply, access your language and input settings and add the Russian Cyrillic keyboard to the list.
I have just begun my study of the Russian language and your videos have been a great help and inspiration to me. I came to Russian because of my love of Russian literature. I.E. Nabokov, Dostoevsky and Bulgakov etc. I've learned so much just listening to you speak. My dream is to one day see the motherland and ride the Transiberian railway from Moscow to China. Thank you so much for the videos and for sharing your beautiful language and culture with the world.
If you want to learn Russian please please take Maria's advice. Do not get caught up in grammar and perfection. Just immerse yourself into conversational Russian and you will learn. I have been sudying Russian since 2001 and fell into the trap of grammar and perfection. For example trying to make sure I new all conjugations. Stop! I so wish I would have had Maria's advice 13 years ago! Umnichka Maria!
Dear, Maria! Yes! As you spoke about "feeling Russia," I actually did! I have subscribed; my fiance' lives in Minsk. I am absorbing your videos . .THANKS!!!
I am so enjoying your channel : ) Its nice to actually hear and then read what you are talking to us about. I also noticed by listening to some Russian songs that I actually like. It helps me remember the words better. Like the song from ВИА Гра , (Л.М.Л. - Лучик мой любимый). Probably not the best band to listen too. But I like that song, even though I have Noooo Idea what they are saying : ) Any suggestions or possible CD's I can buy that you recommend? Maybe even burn them into a CD? I am open to suggestions. Thank you for all your videos, your time and responding back to us all. I gladly follow you : )
As wonderful as ever! (especially because of both subtitles and the content). However, although I do love Mozart, I think a noise-free background might be better to focus on the pronunciation. In any case, thanks a lot, Марий! Please, do more videos talking about things you find interesting! By the way, can you suggest a list of interesting Russian movies?
Лиза Герасименко If I had a good level of Russian I would have replied to you in Russian -I am an absolute beginner. I just want to find some interesting content so that I find myself engaged trying to figure out what they are saying, rather than making it a boring chore. If I understand what is going on (especially if I've seen the translation), I can use the Russian subtitles to get used to the writing system to match the dialogue, while getting used to the sounds of the language.
Лиза Герасименко Thanks! I had problems with English too, but eventually I could understand almost anything, and yet, I could not differentiate some sounds... or pronounce them correctly. I don't want to make that mistake again, so I'm focusing on listening and getting the correct pronunciation even before I understand what I'm hearing. Russians seem to be extremely eager to help people who learn Russian, so I know I'll find people who'll help me to transcribe videos I cannot understand well. While some people manage to perfectly absorb and imitate foreign sounds, a lot of people struggle to even recognize differences in sounds that don't exist in their mother tongue, and they end up making predictable mistakes that become internalised, resulting in a very strong foreign accent. I think the latter kind of people need to change their approach, possibly (but not necessarily) becoming aware of the kind of sound challenges they are about to encounter, and with focused listening, train their brain to compensate for these weaknesses. I wish someone could give me a list of the potential problems I'm likely to encounter in Russian, given that Spanish is my first tongue, but not many people know these facts, so I am just being extra careful.
Лиза Герасименко Thanks, I really appreciate the offer! I personally also love the way Russian sounds, and for what it is worth, I have some qualifications as a Spanish teacher, so if you ever decide to give it a try, I will be more than happy to help you in any way you want. Also, German is another language I would like to improve, but for some reason, I keep postponing (or procrastinating).
Привет Мариа как дела? Я дом США. Ваш дом сиател да? Так ваш лет? Are you single I am interested and looking to date nice Russian young women. You have nice personality and I enjoy listening to your lessons. Write me a email to my email address monteanderson7@mail.com. Пока
ya saglasna. First listen ( a lot) and try to say something. But every now and then take a look at the grammar, just to check out if your unconscious assumptions are correct. And when they are correct, bingo! a moment of pure joy. Because you're not only learning, you're "discovering" how it works. Bolshoe spasibo za vashi uroki!
This is exciting! I really think this is going to work! In learning a new language, memory plays a very important part. My memory has always been poor, through-out my life. I did poorly in school because of it. Never went to Collage because of it. etc. What is your advise for people who have poor memory? I remember things of my childhood, but not not new stuff. Short term memory is the challenge. I thank you again for the great public service you are doing for Russia and people through out the world who love Holy Mother Russia.
If I go to Moscow I need google maps to find my way, of course Muscovites don't need gps, they have learned to get about town over many years. A grammar is the google maps of a language, in the beginning it helps you find your way around difficult sentences. Of course, grammar is a means, not the end. I love listening to the news, comparing Россия 1 with CNN is a lot of fun to me, I love to be surprised how people can see the same fact in totally different ways. Могу предложить несколько хороших музыкальных рок-групп: слот/the slot , Louna, Lumen. Поют на русском и песни очень хорошие. Ещё хорошо будет послушать аудио книги . Думаю, что они были бы полезными. Удачи всем в изучении русского языка)
Salut Maria, j'ai 50 ans je suis un bon instructeur et tes cours sont très intéresants. Dans beaucoup d'autres cours je m'ennuie, trop d'anglais pour trop peu de russe. Merci
You're sweet. I like your video's. . I also know from experience that you're right about not focussing on grammar. At least not until you have a decent foundation. I tried to learn Chinese for a very long time but always was reluctant to actually speak the language because I was afraid I couldn't find the right words or make mistakes. As a result I never reached a decent level. The dificult script didn't help either. With russian I listen to music (Yulia Savicheva, Ani Lorak, Niusha, Polina Gagarina, etc.) and I find it helps me remember things better and motivates me look things up. I also found it is almost impossible to remember separate words but phrases are way more easy to remember and you learn the right use of the word to boot. Lines from favourite songs work great for me.
You mention Russian films. Can you suggest a few that would be good to learn the Russian language? Maybe post? Thanks, I find your video's helpful and enjoyable. Thanks so much!
This is interesting. I live in Australia and we have a LOT of people arrive here who can't speak English. They learn quickly by listening and watching Soap Operas! Many times they tell me local TV soap operas or game show, like family feud, is the way they learned. and, they do not care about grammar, even when I try to correct them 😂 they just want to talk, even when they say funny things, they don't care. I think this is a great attitude, but it's easier if you live in the new country. Harder on UA-cam. 💖
Question Maria? How should I title this video I found I can't speak Russian yet. Thanks for Your video's! Byelorussian Folk Songs / Беларускія народныя песні / Soviet Music 1949
You mention Russian Cartoons. The only ones I can seem to find are archives from the USSR. Do have any suggestions on more current shows I can look up? (There was one I found with a cute little girl and a bear, but there is not much dialogue).
I started learning russian few days ago,i bought one book too,but i find ur videos more of a help, its pretty easy and familiar since i speak 2 slavic languages already, but when russian people talk with each other i find it hard to understand, heh,i understand only u and when putin has a speach..thanks
If someone doesn't understand what she says, she basicly begs people to not teach russian grammar, and let learners just talk the language. Learners need to just talk and leave grammar aside. I agree with her. I speak russian like hell but I can understand the language quite a lot and can communicate well in this language. Having achieved that goal the only thing that's left is just improve the language. But communication comes first. No matter how many mistakes you make, and forget about your damned shyness!!! Practice, say something! ;)
+CDEbFGAbB --- If someone does not understand what she is saying in Russian, they can click on the ``cc`` symbol on the video screen and read the english subtitles. That is what I do. It works very well :)
+Uncle Boom Are you commenting about my comment? There are many ways that can help learn 1 foreign language, not just 1. For me what it works is to put my shyness away and talk, no matter if I commit mistakes. When I learn a new language what I do is speak a language I can communicate with and start inserting words in it from the new language that I learn. Believe me, russians understand me even when I don't make use of declensions. But if you learn such a difficult language trying to say every word and sentence grammatically perfect it should be no wonder that your friends sideline you. Это не важно если я не пишу перфект по русский, но это большой когда русский люди понимают меня. Errors? Sure there are but I'm typing in russian and my message is perfectly understood. Cheer up, mate! ;)
Dear Maria if people are complaining you are a bad teacher ask them what are they doing to help others learn Russian, if they have a better way of teaching that's fine not everyone learns the same way, if they dislike you simply because you exist , they have a problem , that you can't fix, I appreciate that you care enough to do what you do , it's not like you're going to get rich doing it...a lot of people care about you if you are hurting because of the cruelty of others , those who care about you feel it too...even though none of us have ever met you, most don't even care if you were an absolutely shitty teacher, which you definitely are not you're actuslly a very kind person , and funny etc..and a lot of people here consider you their friend simply because you exist....you are very animated, and your enthusiasm is infectious...even if you just came on here and told people hello Privyet ! kak dela ?! and then stood on your head and twirled around ...you're funny anyway...da svidanya !
A good film to watch is bitva za sevastopol(Битва за севастопол - Battle for sevastopol) Great Russian war movie, with a beautiful women in it, its interesting and helps me learn words :D
I think I got great clue Now even I make a Diary for question and some answer and even some wor's are common like Index ....I think Music as pronunced as musikia .....Vodaka .....
I'm not sure in this case I agree with the idea that someone shouldn't learn grammar. In my experience with other languages (Spanish, German, Japanese), I've found the best way for me to learn the language is to understand the grammar rules and some base phrases, and then mostly listen and immerse. Is Russian different in that sense? This is a legitimate question, since I'm just starting out with it and so far I don't seem to be having any problems.
"You need to feel our (russian) soul", you say. That's why I am learning the historical events of Russian Revolution (1917). what's your opinion about that revolution?
at work everyone makes small talk. it is the same brief few words with nearly everyone. hey, how are you? good? thank you. bye. i know these few words in russian and just want to stop speaking english to my coworkers all together. i know they will understand just because of how these situations arise. zdrastvuyte! kak dela? nichivo. dobrey! dobrey! pashalsta. dosvydanya same with at home. when you come out of your room to greet those you live with in the morning, will they not understand if you say dobrey utra to them? eventually they will get the picture. the sun may be shining and you say with positivity. they have to understand eventually. they will just because we are humans and we have a want to understand whats happening
"Why listen to the news?...It's useless information...Do not listen to the news...Because it's not interesting." She's absolutely correct. I gave up on current affairs around the time Trump was elected. I'm now quite ignorant about most things that are going on in the world, and people can't hold conversations with me about them. After half a lifetime of anguish and depression from hearing it all I'm now a much, much happier person.
Очень некрасиво уверять студентов не слушать новости. Есть студенты, которые сдают экзамены, где надо быть профи в политических или экономических новостях.
она не обращалась конкретно к студентам у которых есть политическая тема которую они должны учить, она говорила это общей массе, которая хочет выучить русский язык.
I swear Maria is my Buddha. Not only am I learning Russian from her, but she's inspiring me to be a happy, calm, and peaceful human being.

My god, you are so cute. Thank you for making all this content for us to learn Russian!
i love the videos me living in Moscow they will help improve my Russian
COMPLETELY AGREE ABOUT GRAMMAR =)
Very true. The order of words does not matter. But the ending of them does matter.
Thank you for what you do! Can you do a lesson on Christianity in Russian, please

Lines from favourite songs work great for me.
good job , thank you
очень хорошо, что ты только по-русски говоришь во твоих видео.
News ESPECALLY THE econimc/business/finance part is awesome
I think you are a wonderful Russian language teacher.
You mention Russian films. Can you suggest a few that would be good to learn the Russian language? Maybe post? Thanks, I find your video's helpful and enjoyable. Thanks so much!
Stalingrad 2013.
+Ruth Angela I will look. Thank you!
Thank you. I will look! Paul
(Morning Star is my business. )
+Ruth Angela Stalingrad is the movie that made me start studying Russian.
I'm so enjoying your video. You are Gorgeous..
You mention Russian Cartoons. The only ones I can seem to find are archives from the USSR. Do have any suggestions on more current shows I can look up? (There was one I found with a cute little girl and a bear, but there is not much dialogue).
Luntik.
Try to watch Ivan Tsarevich and the grey wolf. In Russian it is called like Иван царевич и серый волк
Alexi Grojean Маша и Медведь. Masha and the Bear
Добрый день мария, большое спасибо за ролик. Один вопрос 2:26 хрипнувшая погода или ?
хрипнувшая погода ??????? это что-то новое !!!
I started learning russian few days ago,i bought one book too,but i find ur videos more of a help, its pretty easy and familiar since i speak 2 slavic languages already, but when russian people talk with each other i find it hard to understand, heh,i understand only u and when putin has a speach..thanks
Nice bear impression. =)

+UA-camSearch ToxicFluoride Yep, that's an option if one doesn't understand russian and knows that this option exists.
+CDEbFGAbB Great comment, really helpful for a beginner like me
+Uncle Boom Are you commenting about my comment?
Cheer up, mate! ;)
спасибо за видео. мне скучно, когда я смотрю новости!
your accent is verry adorable
NICE :) thnx!!
Easy Russian Mozart - The Piano Sonata No 16 in C major in background :D поздравляю.
+Paul Physman Your right Paul. I googled Mozart's Sonata No 16 and it was there. Now, back to learning the Russian language.

at work everyone makes small talk. it is the same brief few words with nearly everyone. hey, how are you? good? thank you. bye. i know these few words in russian and just want to stop speaking english to my coworkers all together. i know they will understand just because of how these situations arise. zdrastvuyte! kak dela? nichivo. dobrey! dobrey! pashalsta. dosvydanya
same with at home. when you come out of your room to greet those you live with in the morning, will they not understand if you say dobrey utra to them? eventually they will get the picture. the sun may be shining and you say with positivity. they have to understand eventually. they will just because we are humans and we have a want to understand whats happening
нет ты очин холошо! я теба люблю!
Without grammar ? How is it possible? :(
"Why listen to the news?...It's useless information...Do not listen to the news...Because it's not interesting."
She's absolutely correct. I gave up on current affairs around the time Trump was elected. I'm now quite ignorant about most things that are going on in the world, and people can't hold conversations with me about them. After half a lifetime of anguish and depression from hearing it all I'm now a much, much happier person.
DROOGZ DROOOGEM!! :D
Очень некрасиво уверять студентов не слушать новости. Есть студенты, которые сдают экзамены, где надо быть профи в политических или экономических новостях.
hola
она не обращалась конкретно к студентам у которых есть политическая тема которую они должны учить, она говорила это общей массе, которая хочет выучить русский язык.
