This stuff does not hold up in the sun (which I find ironic, considering it's made for outdoor signs). I wrapped an entire drum set with just one roll, it went on easy and looked great. Then, as I was setting up the set in my garage I moved the floor tom into the sun to move things around, and within 10 minutes the wrap started to wrinkle. I moved it back into the shade and about 15 minutes later it leveled out again. It was only about 70 degrees outside, with no humidity, so it's not like it was a scorching day. I've resigned myself to the fact I either have to only use the kit indoors (which will be tough since 3/4 of my Summer gigs are outdoors), or spend a ton on legit drum wrap. I guess it's a great option if you're only going to set up your kit in your basement or studio; if you plan on gigging outdoors, not so much.
I converted my Ludwigs from acoustic to electric and rewrapped them with this product in silver sparkle. Looks amazing! 65 drums even put my set in his recent video highlighting viewers drum sets. At this price its a no brainer.
I used this stuff on a mixed maker studio kit...bought a half roll of the red sparkle. Looked awesome when finished. But I did stick it down all the way around the shell...the manufactor said it would wrinkle if I didn't. That was due to the temp changes in the room(s) where I played the kit.
i am going to give my old stencil kit a facelift with the holographic crystal material that they have. It looks amazing! I will definitely be removing the backing paper on mine when it comes. I want it to lay nicely. ♫♪♫
Got my 30’ roll of Royal metallic blue in the mail the other day and I’ll be wrapping my alesis strike pro se in the morning after work… wish me luck!! Lol
I bought several different colors from Paper Street Plastics to experiment rewraps with. Man, they all looked fantastic. Yes, wanna fix up some old or even new drums, you really need to check them out! Yes, best kept secret for sure.
Thanks for this video. Did you ever have issues with the wrap wrinkling at the lugs? I ended up buying a roll of the champagne copper. Looks great, shipped fast, and was easy to work with, but I couldn't figure out how to keep it from wrinkling.
The lower end drum kit like Ludwig accent’s say it has a silver sparkle and outer color sparkle finishes you can barely see it it really small.this product looks nice you can really see it pop out.I’ve been wanting to do a sparkle flame 🔥 on my accent power tone when it gets old.
I would have done a flush cut technique. Just leave a 2” lip, take a straight edge, split the difference and using an exacto knife and cut through both layers which cuts off the lip on top and the bottom lip layer underneath which when taken out will result in a perfect flush cut.
mike that green wrap looks perfect whith the black alesis kit , i cant wait to get the wrap ftom paper street thanks to you im saving hundreds , Dennis from boston
I have used a similar material on drums sets a couple times. Durability wise, definitely put some durable clear finishing tape to hold the end seam. Also, only install it over a gloss lacquer finish or an existing wrap. Going on bare wood is... rough. It's a neat way to get a temporary finish change though. But, I've never used Paper Street Plastics, so maybe theirs is better. You went with the best possible color choice, so thumbs up for that!
Turned out great! Thanks for the informative video. I am looking into ordering from paper street plastics and recovering my drum set but just saw they have two drum wraps now a glitter and a sparkle option one of them being considerably thicker, it says 4.5mm. I am debating going with that option as it may not have that orange peel look like you were describing. The confusing part is both of those item listings show the same images and color options and the thicker one is actually cheaper. Lol a bit confused, but fingers crossed it’s the right choice! If not I may return and buy the thinner film you used. 🤘
I love all the different options to choose from and it does claim to have an out door life of 5 years, so I think I will chance it. I've used car wrap and that's held up great for a very long time, plus It's easily removed with zero shell damage, so as long as Street Plastics has the same charactoristics as that then I'm all in.
Personal in my opinion I don’t think the stuff will work well for car wrap because of the way the glitter is applied to the wrap. Plus I haven’t tested how well it with stretch and self heal with heat like most car wrap do 🤷♂️ just my 2 cents bro! But now you got me wondering. Maybe I’ll do a follow up video trying to wrap something with curves to see how it will works
I've wrapped a few of my drum sets. One with a textured gator skin, one with a copper/orange sparkle, and one with a green sparkle. I use marine vinyl that they use to upholster seats with. It comes in large rolls big enough to do an entire set with. And it's relatively cheap. I can get 3 cubic yards for about $60 or $70. You just cut it down to size and use a durable spray adhesive to tack it on. Then I use a drill to drill through all the hardware screw holes. If you do it right it looks factory professional. The options for colors and textures are pretty much unlimited. I wish I could upload pics of my kits here, but even after more than 15 years my gatorskin kit has held up perfectly after many gigs. Still looks new.
@@tq64to4 well thank you for the video. Is it holding up well? I love renovating drums but by the time I primer and sand (several times) put on a bunch of layers of paint and clear... it has to cost more than buying a 30" sheet of this stuff.
Yes is holding up great! One of my dogs knocked a piece of metal over and it hit the drums and didn’t even make a scratch. So apparently it’s pretty durable also!
I used this and did my electric pearl travel kit conversion and it looks awesome but still want the strike except the high hat . I’m going to test out optical high hat making my own. I’ll let you know how it goes
I have the Strike Pro SE and yeah the hi-hat sucks. I just use a real hi-hat that I mic and run through the board with the rest of the kit. Works perfectly.
You mentioned that the company suggests to leave the backing on... Where did you see or hear this, I tried to look for it on their Website but couldn't find it.
For $20.00 i got form amazon Sequins Holographic Glitter Sign Vinyl, with Self-Adhesive (12 inch x 10 ft, Red) but kin of disappointment the next day i see curling or corners already :(, IT could be because the Drums i covered are metal Pintechs and not wooden shells.
So, you just keep the paper on except for the few inches where you stick it down. I saw that, but I just want to make sure. That actually makes so much sense.
Precision is quality but when you play big drums like me that ~$600 price tag isn't exactly welcoming. I'm gonna try the wrap hes got, use contact adhesives, and spray a clear coat over it for some added thickness and protection. It should hold up nicely that way.
I care about my drums and would use this material in a heartbeat. I am doing my wallet a favor. Seriously...if it breaks down or gets messed up down the road it can easily be removed without any negative impact on the drum shells at all! I really don't want to spend more money to cover my set than the set cost me in the first place. Just the way I roll though. To each their own. You are not wrong about the wrap from PD being legit though. Cheers! ♫
This stuff is terrible! Complete waste of time and money. They want you to peel it off, then stick it back on the paper. Which is harder than it sounds. Then it wrinkles when you apply it to the drum. I had to tear it off and now I'm looking for a new wrap for my drums.

This good info to know! Thanks for sharing! I’ll pin this comment!
Did you leave the paper on like he does, or take it off for the whole drum?
sounds like you need to put it on warm and then when it cools it will shrink, but then when it heats back up it wont bubble.

I used silver of this and it reflects all different colors of light and movement
Can a kit be wrapped without removing the original wrap? I'd really like to not have to remove the old wrap.
I’m sure it could. I just removed it cause it was kinda wrinkly
Absolutely.

That's funny I came across this video. I make decals and have that kind of vinyl and was wondering if it would work as a wrap.
Works great!
How difficult was it to do the hoops? I feel like I would have more trouble with that part.
The hoops was definitely a challenge. Probably the hardest part.. so it has a grove with a lip you can tuck it into. And that helps hold it in

What is that drill bit you’re using to drill out the holes?
It’s a counter sink bit
The fact you brought out a sledge hammer to old the old wrap when cutting, gave me a good laugh!!
Don’t everyone have a sledgehammer near by at all times?

Some of those vinyls you have to “set the glue “ with a heat gun. 🤷♂️ it’s like a heat activated glue
