    Today we will look at and review the Autel MaxiCOM MK908 / MK908P scanner and use it to diagnose and fix GM trouble code p0172, or p0175. The Autel MK908 is a brand new model for this year (2019) and is Autel's top of the line fully bidirectional OBDII diagnostic scan tool. This scanner has worked flawlessly for me and seems very well made. The MK908 comes complete with 120 volt wall charger, USB cable, micro USB cable, 12V car charger cable VCI wireless diagnostic interface device, carrying case, and all standard documentation. The MK908P come with the Maxiflash J2534 pass through device used for programming and coding.
    I use the new Autel to bidirectionally activate the fuel pump on the vehicle to extract a fuel sample to verify alcohol content, then rest the fuel composition back to factory setting. The P0172 and P0175 codes are a very common problem on GM flex fuel vehicles from the mid to late 2000's. It's an easy fix if you have the right tools and equipment, and the new Autel MaxiCOM MK908 made this job very easy. I highly recommend it!

    Loved the screen shots of the 908 and your step thru's, Im looking to get something in this range, it was great to see the options on each screen and the use of it. I thought you where going to be able to enter 6% for alchohol content, seems strange they won't let you do that.

      Thanks for the comment. Yeah, it only lets me "reset" the fuel composition. Im not sure how/why it resets to 3%, as apposed to any other number but it fixed my problem.... which is common on this era of GM vehicles. Thanks again.

    I am hesitating between the MK906BT and the MK908, what's the difference in the coding/online coding capabilities ? Thank you !

    • @SlipFitGarage

      I honestly do not know the answer about the differences in coding capabilities. My suggestion would be to ask Autel's online tech department. Sorry I wasnt able to answer your question. Thanks.

    Great video. Why did the vehicle read high. I'm having the same problem and having to bring it in every 3-4 refills to be reset. Should I just buy a tool to reset it myself?

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  2 роки тому

      I've only had to reset my truck once. It's usually caused because the vehicle does not have an alcohol sensor. The computer tries to calculate fuel/alcohol content and it gets confused. (for lack of a better description) It's usually cause by short gas tank fills combined with short drives. I can't guarantee that is the problem with your particular vehicle but it is very common with GM vehicles from the era. It's been a while since I have watched my own video but I am pretty sure I covered all this in the video. Maybe not. Thanks for the question.

    Do you think a tool like this is overkill for a home mechanic? I do my own repairs and service but have always had older cars, now I've upgraded to a newer car starting to consider a decent tool that can help diagnose the myriad modules if and when there are issues and if possible help bleed the braking system including abs/tc properly

    • @SlipFitGarage

      It all depends how you feel about buying tools that wont get used much. I absolutly have no problem buying a tool that I know wont get used very often. Other people might feel that its foolish to own tools like that. This tool is awesome when you need a full functional, bi directional scan tool. I am very glad that I own it even thought it wont be used very often. If you can afford to make the investment, I'd say go for it. It's a purchase that only you can decide to make.

      @@SlipFitGarage Thanks for the advice. I did some research and see Autel do some cheaper models that have similar functionality that would probably suit a home mechanic better. I have several tools that are specialized for a single task and I don't regret buying them as they have saved me so much time.

      I have used it on light duty diesel engines/trucks. When I say light duty, I mean 550 or 5500 series trucks or smaller... Such as F550 Ford, and 5500 Dodges but I have very little experience with those. I would not be able to give you a full description of its abilities on those diesel trucks.

    Is the MK908 better than the Maxisys elite?

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  5 років тому +1

      It's hard to say.... The MK908 has an overall new look and feel than all previous Autel devices. The rubber grip around the edges is different, and the software itself has a different look. I am not an expert on every Autel model but just going by the advertised specs, they both have pros and cons. The MK908 has a Samsung Hexa-core processor, and the Maxisys Elite has a NVIDIA quad core processor.... The MK908 has a larger screen at 10.1 inches vs the Maxisys Elite's smaller screen at 9.7 inches BUT the smaller screen has better resolution. (2048x1536 vs 1920x1080) The MK908 has a larger battery at 15000ah vs the Maxisys Elite's 13600ah. The Maxisys Elite has an Ethernet port for wired network connectivity and the MK908 does not. As far as software functionality... I believe both scanners have the same capabilities. However, I will say that I have never personally used a Maxisys Elite so I cant be 100% sure on that. There may be a few other small differences that I have missed....YMMV. Thanks for the comment!

      brianok100 Wow, thank you for the detailed response! I have the elite and wanted to see if it is worth switching to this model. I think I’m going to stick with it for now, although this new one seems to have the same functions for far less $$

      This video was filmed in the USA and it worked just fine while filming.... and every other time I've used it since. Not sure what you're reading on the internet, but if you buy a scanner from the USA Amazon website, it SHOULD be a scanner designed for use in the USA. If you have trouble with the scanner, just send it back. Simple.
      Yes, this scanner is sold in other countries... but those scanners are designed for those countries..... just like the version I have was designed for use in the USA

    Alcohol fuel is wayyy cheaper. Doesnt mean they aren't blending more Alcohol to make their fuel costs cheaper

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  3 роки тому

      Anything is Possible.... The fuel I have tested that is sold around here has all been 10% or less. I'm pretty sure there is a law stating that any fuel with ethanol mixed in, that is sold commercially, has to have NO MORE ethonol than "advertised". It can be less, but not more. Does that mean it's impossible to find fuel with more ethanol than advertised? Probably not.... but it's also not likely, either. At least around here....

      Is there something wrong with your vehicle? Try it on another vehicle and see if it works. If not, email or call Autel's tech support. If all else fails send it back and exchange it for another one. Did you buy it from Amazon? It's possible you got a bad scanner from the factory.
