69 too and seen them many times in England, When I watch on UA-cam brings back great times, times never to come back sadly, now where's my cheesecloth shirt😅
I agree with @rickhensley5963 about the British rock band Wishbone Ash. Their music is a superlative blend of bluesy guitar playing and progressive rock compositions with lyrical content that borders on the mystical. I have seen them perform live, no less than three times in my hometown of Bombay (Mumbai) in India during the 1980s. The lineups then featured Andy Powell and Steve Upton, Turner brothers (once each if I recall correctly) and guitarist Laurie Wisefield as well. Great songs, without any doubt! Argus, There's The Rub, No Smoke Without Fire... all still stand out as fantastic albums along with some of the undocumented live shows (like the ones i mentioned in India).
+Rog Shrubber Myself and friends didn't underrate them. Right up there with the best. They didn't get radio time because the dumbass radio producers couldn't pin a genre on them. How about just kickass music/rock & Roll
Sorry to butt in again folks, but I just can't stay away from this fantastic clip. It is perfection from start to finish. The composition, the vocal, the bass, the drums, the guitar work and the synergy are just utterly faultless. If there is a better recorded live performance from a rock band on YT, I have yet to see it.
Yes, I've commented before on this channel about this performance, too. Stunning guitar work from both Andy and Laurie. Beautiful solos full of soul and feeling. I never tire of it.
Completely agree guys, what a brilliant track, the guitar riffs anazing, but also percussion and base, the whole track is mesmerizing, got to be the most underated band ever😀
This particular performance is somewhat of a reoccuring 'fix' for me... We had a power cut last night and with candles lit all around, there was nothing left to do but play a guitar.... As I was noodling around the fretboard, I drifted into the opening solo of Persephone, which I learned to play - albeit crudely - over 30 years ago (when I had the Flying V...).... When the power returned, I just had to listen to this lovely ballad agian, so I cued -up the studio version [There's The Rub] to listen to through my Senheiser headphones... Something I highly recommend your guys try... After which, I've been humming it all day ! Earworms being what they are... So, I had to return to the best live version I know of. THIS ONE.
Demais ! Melhor grupo do grande rock inglês...

Wishbone Ash was one of the best bands that ever lived on the face of the earth. By the way, a common thing in Great Britain, where you have the best of rock for decades! What is to kill in Wishbone Ash, besides a total commitment to the proposal of a simple, clean and wonderful rock, is to do everything with this quality only with the basic instruments, drums, bass, guitars base and solo and nothing else . And the vocalization ... is awesome! I discovered this band by chance in 1974 and since then my life has changed! Worthy of a Pink Floyd, Led, Deep Purple and stuff like that. Even with the Beatles ... I am a passionate about this classic band and the Argus album is undoubtedly one of the best ever performed by these geniuses, as good as the Sargent Peppper's ... Paul Pecchio, from S. Paulo, Brazil.
You can't compare the complexity of wishbone ash with led Zeppelin or pink Floyd, and thanks to Alan parson they found their defying sound on their album dark side of the moon .
Andy Powell could make that flying Vee sing like no other. What a great double guitar band. Weaving solos in and out of each other. I am so glad I saw them several times. Great live band.

This has to be my favorite Wishbone Ash tune. It has so much emotion, while it tells a great story. Really enjoyed this video and based on the thumbs up responses, 98.2% agree on this.

McDonnell Douglas, you're right, but so is Laurie's solo in the middle of the song. Utterly beautiful. It's a pity that the camera just misses the flurry of the first few notes. Every note in all of these solos comes directly from the heart.
I must have played 'There's the Rub' 1000 times. This live version is absolutely awesome! I love when an artist takes a recorded song and gives it artistic flair when playing live! Wishbone Ash is one of the most underrated bands!!
Underrated ???…..They were reckoned to be one of the best live bands of that early seventies era. Where do you people get your ideas from. They were not a singles band which may explain there lack of appearances on TOTP but who gives a shit about that. You obviously are too young to remember. Very highly rated !!!!

Wishbone Ash, the beauty of simplicity and competence: lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass and drums, NOTHING ELSE. Perfect vocalization, wonderful songs. The best of great English rock! His album Argus, from the early 70s, is a landmark in world music, like Sargent Peppers of the BEATLES. His song "Persephone", is very sensitive and beautiful: you listens to it twice and it never leaves his head. I met Wishbone Ash by chance in the 70s when I was in my early 20s. Agreed! a cracking version. Andy P really unloads on this one!. Saw the Ash many times through the 70's with both Ted and Laurie and they never failed to deliver. Tks v.m.for posting.
Yeah man, those were the days when public German TV was at its best. An entire concert of Wishbone Ash aired during prime time! Still love them in 2014!
Not pioneers but great exponents of twin guitars - Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac were pioneers of this style and Wishbone Ash cite them as a major influence .
I first heard Wishbone Ash in 1972 and they are the best. I've since seen them three times , once each in San Antonio, Houston and Dallas. Come back to Texas, Andy.

im 37, so i was around 4-5 years old when this came out.. i used to go to bed listening for my dad to play his albums.. Persephone would always get an airing, the tune would roll up the stairs lift me up and fly me through the sky.. a have played ALOT of music through out my life but this track has always been no1...i read one comment saying it puts you in "one of those moods" how true,
Long time fan (from the 70's), inspired again by this performance. Amazing! Thank you for this and thank you for music that keeps us all wanting the most from life. Magic!
@themore09 I was fortunate enough to see Wishbone Ash 3 times. They were actually the first concert I ever saw, I was in Indianapolis in a skating rink. The warm up was Vinegar Joe. One didn't need to bring any treats. The smoke in the air took us all there. Wow what a show. Probably about 1973 give or take. The subsequent shows where phenomenal as well.
Absolutely my favorite Wishbone Ash tune. The guitar solos so typical of the hippie/antiwar era. Thanks so much for this fabulous video of one of my favorite groups. What a performance and that was only one tune.
its my 53rd birthday tomorrow , ive heard this this band and this song so many times..... and it cannot be bettered ....somethings are are just beautiful and that's all you can say.....
My wise older brother got me into Ash when I was still at school and I was lucky enough to see them live in the 70s. This is a terrific performance from all the guys.
I keep coming back to this. Irresistibly drawn to it. So much beauty in the song and in the guitar playing. Saw them play it in concert in their UK There's the Rub tour, October 10, 1974. Awesome.
Saw them on the same german tour a few days before in hannover. a great hall full packed with a couple of tousand people. without internet the hall was sold out into 24 hours. that were the great days of rock music. flyin´high wishbone ash. since then i have seen them live over 100 times. it´s the love of my youth and life - hope my wife did ´nt read this.
That's cool. I first heard them 44 years ago and saw them live 38 years ago in London. Then I just saw them again last Month. Still really good music and a great band, even with the new members, Bob on bass guitar, Muddy on guitar and Joe on drums along with original member Andy Powell. I got even autographs and a quick photo with Andy after the show!
Wishbone Ash is the best rock band I've ever heard the in the 58 years of my existance. And Persephone is one of my favorites. the rift by Laurie somewhere in the middle is awesome, the way he holds his axe and plays.
Just brilliant! I saw Wishbone Ash in 76 or 77 (don't remember the date now !!) at Hammersmith Odeon. What a great concert it was. This track rides high along with a few other favorite WA creations.
I was not in Cologne, I was in Geneva that year, and this song, in the concert of November 1976, is maybe my best I ever heard! WA had a splendour, a "glory" that no other group could ever come near to!
I am 69-years-old and have been listening to Wishbone Ash since 1973. Fifty-one years later, they're an excellent band with timeless music. Rock on.
I'm 70, took these guys to college with me on 8-track-tape player !! This one and Phoenix 🙂
I'm 65. Saw the original Band in 1973 at Colorado Springs. Second time in Denver a couple years ago. Excellent Live Band.

im 37, so i was around 4-5 years old when this came out.. i used to go to bed listening for my dad to play his albums..
Persephone would always get an airing, the tune would roll up the stairs lift me up and fly me through the sky.. a have played ALOT of music through out my life but this track has always been no1...i read one comment saying it puts you in "one of those moods" how true,
I have listened to this song so many times over the years and never, ever tire of it!!
I`m 60 now but never heard anything better than this ...:)
I remember going to this concert tour in Portland, Oregon. Andy Powell brought that FV to life!
Just amazing... Wishbone ash certainly one of the greats in my book.
Arguably the best WA tune ever. Achingly melodic with brilliant guitars.
i loved that i was the only one in san diego that was digging this great ash!
WA, my favourite group, Martin Turner, Laurie Wisefield, Andy Powell and Steve Upton: my favourite musicians!
Got that right.
Best song ever..So Deep and emotional... Reminds me of my beautiful childhood
Andy's solo at the end of this number... one of the best I ever heard from Ash ...one of my favourites anyway.
Nice, enjoyed that
Indeed
one of the greatest guitar bands performing one of the greatest guitar songs ever
from the compositional point of view Andy Powell's solos are one of the greatest in rock history imho
A genius. Fabulous band.
Totally agree 👌
Laurie Wisefields solo in this song is magnificent!
On my playlist this... It's got a major' Wow factor' me....... I am a serious WA fan....!
Oh my, I never get tired of this tune. And they still tour! 👍
Long time fan (from the 70's), inspired again by this performance. Amazing! Thank you for this and thank you for music that keeps us all wanting the most from life. Magic!
Stunning song. Twin lead guitars have never sounded better.
That is truth.
Left my cd with andy i hope he likes it my name is dale.
I am still simply astounded that I never heard of this band until 2009. They have some fantastic songs.
Never too late to hear them😀

I was fortunate enough to see Wishbone Ash 3 times.
The 'BESTEST' SONG in my Rock list and only when Martin sings .
Such an amazing composition and effortlessly executed live in the 1970s 😊
Absolutely my favorite Wishbone Ash tune. The guitar solos so typical of the hippie/antiwar era. Thanks so much for this fabulous video of one of my favorite groups. What a performance and that was only one tune.
its my 53rd birthday tomorrow , ive heard this this band and this song so many times..... and it cannot be bettered ....somethings are are just beautiful and that's all you can say.....
One of the first ten songs from WA I heard. Fell totally in love with them!!
Exquisite, like a rock n roll jewel. shining for all time to show what a perfect medium ccncert rock can be.
Andy is amazing. I saw him play the other night.
This is just a complete, awesome song.
It is so enjoyable to listen to.
The best live band.🎸..forever..
Just beautiful. It took forty years for me to find this gem, Man I Love youtube:)
Hans Behn I saw them 2 weeks ago, im to young to of seen the original line up but andy Powell still rocks
Martyn, you lucky guy!!

@@andrewbudgie1958 Wzajemnie!
Wishbone Ash is the best rock band I've ever heard the in the 58 years of my existance. And Persephone is one of my favorites. the rift by Laurie somewhere in the middle is awesome, the way he holds his axe and plays.
Andy and Laurie...damn can evoke such emotion with their mastery of tuneful guitar...
Awesome, awesome , awesome song to this day. Three great guitar players in this simply marvelous group.
Saw them play in Munster, FRG, September 1977. They were on point that night. A fellow soldier turned me on to them and I'm grateful for it.
