Pink Floyd -"Echoes" Pompeii
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 тра 2013
- Pink Floyd performing at the ancient Roman amphitheatre in Pompeii , Italy
he main footage in and around the amphitheatre was filmed over four days in October 1971, using the band's regular touring equipment, including studio-quality 24-track tape recorders. Additional footage filmed in a Paris television studio the following December was added for the original 1972 release. The film was then re-released in 1974
he film has subsequently been released on video numerous times, and in 2003 a "Director's Cut" DVD appeared which combines the original footage from 1971 with more contemporary shots of space and the area around Pompeii

Arguably the best Pink Floyd song ever written. The Pompeii version is so much better than the studio version. Gotta love that bass line towards the end.

I think I saw Waters poo-poo the lyrics in an interview once, saying they were “6th Form”. I think he slightly resents the achievement of the GROUP.
Did you notice that when the lyrics are being sung Rick glances over to Dave 👍 best Floyd lyrics ever, and I don't know know a band that comes close to Floyd.

Those vocal harmonies without autotune.

Yeah, ricks vocals are tough as hell for me to do. I typically stick to singing rogers songs cause I got the same range as him but his voice is very simple.

The section where Roger and Nick drop into that groove and the camera pans around the back of the speakers as Dave smashes out those power chords is surely one of the most iconic moments in rock. Awesome

• LYRICS •
Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves
In labyrinths of coral caves
The echo of a distant time
Comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine
And no-one called us to the land
And no-one knows the wheres or whys
But something stirs and something tries
And starts to climb towards the light
Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can
And no-one calls us to move on
And no-one forces down our eyes
No-one speaks and no-one tries
No-one flies around the sun
Cloudless everyday you fall upon my waking eyes
Inciting and inviting me to rise
And through the window in the wall
Come streaming in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning
And no-one sings me lullabies
And no-one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky
Grazie mille Marta per il testo tanta luce a te
I do really think that this are the best lyrics in all Pop Rock history.
P.S. thanks a lot ❤
спасибо!
Overhead the Enterprise
Hangs motionless in high orbit
And deep beneath the toiling crews
In labyrinths of jefferies tubes
The echo of a red alert
Comes willowing across the coms
And everything is keen except the Breen
And no one calls us to beam down
And no one forces down our shields
No one hails, no distress calls
And no one warps around the sun

The best band of all time
The song is weak and mediocre. No development, monotony. It’s not difficult to come up with this kind of music; you don’t need any talent or skill, you only need basic knowledge of music theory. And if there are studio opportunities, such music can be presented effectively and exotically. In general, Pink Floyd is pretentious junk.

I don’t care what anyone says this was Pink Floyd’s best song. This is truly the only song in which all four members are completely in sync. Which show/year? My first concert ever was Floyd at county stadium in Milwaukee on September 30, 1987. I was 10 years old and we had field passes so you could walk right up to the stage. Me and my dad!
The bass line is indescribable, phenomenal.
Roger rocks the hell out of this one. Funky and rock at the same time!
@@ElMariachi555 Unfortunately the speakers got more camera shots than he did.
It's a downright shame Roger didn't get more screen time. His baseline carries this track to such an extent, that it's a sacrilege that he is pretty much left out of this video. Still a sensational track, way ahead of its time, but if feel bad for Roger being left out.
@@jehaande I agree !!
But you described it; phenomenal
every minute of this video is a minute worth living.. these are probably among the best minutes one can ever have..
What I love most about Pink Floyd is that they don't care about commercial success they make songs that they want, if they are 20 minutes long, that's because they want to, not because they're thinking about commercial success
In the year 3921 there will be a concert with no audience in the ruins of Washington, DC.
I'm looking at 2021. SGHTF long b4 3921
Change that to 2020
It won’t be as epic as this. No one will ever compare to Floyd.
Maybe Seattle or Portland, Pompei wasn't a so important city in the Roman Empire.
I’d pay good money to witness that...
My neighbors' favorite band is Pink Floyd....whether they like it or not.
@hulaGUNZ. Thanks. That made me laugh a lot.
🙈
best comment ever
😂😂😂🥳🥳🥳😎🥃
Brilliant😀👍
Il momento più importante della storia del rock . Un evento che unisce la musica alla storia . Grazie David, Nick, Rick e Roger avete creato qualcosa di irraggiungibile
This world is billions of years old.
And we have the pleasure to be here together with Pink Floyd.
Thank you David Gilmour for giving us amazing music and remaining humble
Thank you Roger for providing some of the most detailed and meaningful lyrics ever put into a song
Thank you Nick for being able to stick with the band as it’s only constant member, shining through always.
Thank you Rick for taking the harsh words of roger and dealing with being so underrated despite your crucial contributions.
And thank you Syd, for giving Pink Floyd a life-long legacy and giving them a reason to play.
One of the most sublime comments on the internet. Brought a real innocent smile on my face. An emotion I hadn't had in a long time.
Thank You.
Kylie All are equal parts EPIC
rodger had great lyrics on this one !!!
Kylie , this comment is underrated. Bringing tears to my eyes.
Man thank Pink Floyd both past and present. Their music remains and will remain timeless. Already immortalized by innovation they pioneered and many other bands of the time pioneered beautiful era for music. Wonder what our generation of music will have to say about us rn.
Lets not forget Nick Mason absolutely slaying the drums during this performance...
yes and a big yes
Yeah! And he also slays a mean apple pie. My fave has to be when the camera pans across his kit and he slams that crash in your face.
probably one of the most underrated drummers honestly
I’ve never liked the drum mix though. Too much overhead and not enough snare. Meaning: It’s all cymbals and not enough beef.
@@adamwilliamson1151 yeah, kinda pisses you off, don't it?
Should be more of a fuss...just then when he thought about tapping that cymbal again, and didn't...
Yeah, the man's alright...
What makes this video clip even more special is the pure osmosis and fun they have playing together
Listening to Pink Floyd brings calm to our soul. In this chaotic world, it is at the end of the night that I have some peace. Thank you for existing and making my existence a little less painful.
Those Roman ghosts never had it so good
I LOL'd
The Roman ghosts are still listening today and will forever...
Hahahaha!!
I have seen them 7 times in various stages of their maturity...
xactly
The fact that this was filmed with nobody in the audience just makes me adore Pink Floyd even more, it gives it this feeling as if this concert withstands the test of time, creating the illusion that the concert is live to anyone who watches it at any time, as they are the only audience spectating.
It really creates a sense of isolation and creates a focus squarely on the band. Question for you. Have you seen Stop Making Sense, the live Talking Heads movie directed by Jonathan Demme? Though there was an audience in attendance, he made a point of never filming the audience. He wanted the focus to be squarely on the band, not unlike this film. I think stuff like this is fascinating.
Actuality is empty because the authority didn't allowed too many people there, they believed that could mess with the whole historical place
There were 3 people in the ampitheater watching as an audience.
You are all wrong. The concert was for the spirits that haunt Pompeii.
@@charlescarver2623 I do feel that they did the concert for the people that were killed when the volcano erupted. (standing room only so to speak)
I was in Pompeii yesterday, I’m here today, now I’m back 53 years . Time sure has a way of moving you
My mom has a degenerative eye sight condition and she has always yearned for new things to witness and remember before her sight goes before she dies and this entire live concert is something we've watched countless times. When her sight goes and we still listen to this together she will always be happy envisioning all the sights from this beautifully done live concert.
