I see so many comments about the guitarists and they are great, but don't over the bass. He's SMOKIN'!!!! Also the drummer is just right on, every moment.
Ritchie Blackmore once said that Andy Powell is one of very few guitarists that HE admire, and who really are good guitarist. If Ritchie say so, who are we to disagree. But in my opinion, he forgot to mentionTed Turner and Laurie Wisefield too....All three of them are brilliant....
I've loved this band ever since I bought Argus. Could not get past the first side. Just had to keep playing that over and over. Finally, I got to the second side, and same thing there too. Had to rush out and get their first two albums. I've been playing since 71, and these so talented guys provided volumes of inspiration. God bless em'.
Totally agree Alan................I saw them many times in the 70s and was never less than in awe. When you consider that Andy Powell and Ted Turner were only in their v early twenties when they brought out Wishbone Ash 1, i'm amzed at how good they were. Have just bought tickets to see Martin Turner's WA in March...............they still bloody good
Consistently voted one of the most important guitarist of all time. We, rightly, love our heroes and want for them the world, but often the world got there already.
The first two albums I bought with my first week's pay were Free At Last and Wishbone Ash first album. After all the three minute pop trash I had heard to that point Handy and Phoenix were just a revelation and to this day some 50 years later still wonderful. And doesn't Laurie do a marvelous job here. Let's not forget the great band he came from Home and their magnificent three albums (as I remember it)
Revisiting this video April 2023 - a song that builds up is always intriguing, but I could do without the first 4 minutes or so....BUT once Laurie starts that solo around 4:50, and the rest of them kick in at 7:05 it is one of the best rock jams in history. The interplay between the guitars is so awesome - watching them play it is part of the awesomeness! They know what each will do, and it all fits together sooooo well. This song is not just guitar solos but an orchestration between 4 musicians - the practice it must have taken!
Bird rise high from the cinders Leave it all behind All the ruins and the fire Bird raise your head from the ashes Many men lay dead You can see them like I Phoenix rise Raise your head to the sky Phoenix rise Raise your head to the sky
Really liked live versions of Jailbait and Blowin Free, but the version of this on Live Dates seemed...ragged. This one gets a bit minimalist in the middle...but it aint ragged at all.
Martin Turner (bass & vocals) and Ted Turner (guitar & vocals) is here 1983 replaced by Trevor Bolder (1981 - 1983, went back to Uriah Heep) and Laurie Wisefield (1974 - 1986, played with Tina Turner and as session musician). For a short period in 1980-81 John Wetton played bass, he's on the album Number The Brave. Martin Turner & Ted Turner reunited with Andy Powell and Steve Upton in 1987 with the all instrumental album Nouveau Calls.
A humbucker in place of the original P90 Laurie's guitars have been massaged aka tweaked as it were different pickups from stock in several of his guitars
Real musicians, real emotional music. One of my favorite bands of all time. So much better than most of the crap produced nowadays

Listening and enjoying in 2022. Anyone else?
Yup. Started out with Telstar album by the Ventures. Our 1973 band played a lot of WA. Time Was always popular, no one ever knew who did it.
I see so many comments about the guitarists and they are great, but don't over the bass. He's SMOKIN'!!!! Also the drummer is just right on, every moment.
These dudes definitely payed their dues !!!😅

Funny thing is,- all four of them are under the 50 best guitarreros of all time..
one of the best bands of all times....
Who ever the clown car that gave a thumbs down to this is a 24 carat Gruber
Best band in the world for me
And so many don't know it!
@@PaulSiddall I'm a Malaysian. I am a fan of WA since the 70s. Still listen to their songs. Cheers.

@@ndav5677 sounds good. Mart was something special too.
@@alanosterman7130 yep in my view his bass n vocals underpinned their sound- no Ash without Martin!
Nobody ever gives andy Powell any kudos but i think he's a great guitarist too.
He is a MASTER.
Brilliant player!

Top notch musicianship especially Laurie Wisefield.

Didn't know he was with Home. Lady of the Birds is fantastic. Pretty damn obscure, too.

Melodie @ Rock. Wishbone Ash einfach nur schön!
GOD...this is just awesome!! So many cool sounds here - all 4 playing their hearts out! WA music speaks to me!

Laurie - what a great guitar player
Laurie Wisefields playing in this is superb...
Fabuleux guitariste...
world class guitarist
Simples assim galera!

Simply awesome. These guys can play blindfolded.
Love me some Wishbone Ash 💕
Most ignored band ever by far, brings back so many memories
Just amazing! Just like I remember it in concert in Atlanta many moons ago.
Outrageous blinding indescribable brilliance. Untold thanks for the share dude.
Most excellent guitar work
I got to see them for Wishbone 4, There’s the Rub, Locked in and in Colorado around 2010 or so. Great every time,
Ted Turner was and is still a fine musician skilled not only on the 6 string but also the steel guitar.
Love the flying V.
Amazing song! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
wishbone ash : Argus album perfect
very good
I agree comments statement of them being one of the best bands of the way backs.
May the guitars play forever!
Ted Turner Rules! 👏👏👏👏👏

Saw Wishbone Ash in Milwaukee, but for the life of me, I can't remember the venue. Was it Shank Hall?
Yes! It was Shank Hall. I was there too. Excellent show.
Two Turner's too few.
énorme laurie ....
😍😍😍😍No Coments! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
is this all four of original band members?

Great band but definitely at their best when Lauriewas the main lead guitarist!
Can anyone please tell me what model guitar Laurie is playing (so superbly I might add!)here? Thanks in anticipation.
Les Paul Jr. Double cut with a humbucker under the P90 cover
@@johnrichardson1867 Wrong its a straight P90
Watch his picking he moves is further up the neck to increase bass response.

Much better versions of this
Left handed drummer?
Steve Upton.
Maybe he plays "open handed"?
This band gets no credit for their guitar skills.
Great choice @1950Aleksandr~!
