- Why are all our fandoms in the toilet right now. How have they fallen so far and why are we (the fans) the perceived bad guys?? Let's have a look at how the system actually works shall we.

If the BBC hates its viewers, then the viewers should be allowed to NOT pay the licence fee.

The license fee is unenforceable, and has no legal weight behind it. All they are allowed to do is pester you. They have no powers of entry. Also, it's ending in 2027. The technology they have claimed to have since the 1950s still doesn't exist. The door knockers are all on commission, and only operate now in very few places thanks to the government telling the BBC off for their practices. Oh, and the government also put a cap on how often they are allowed to send you letters now. They use lies and false information, along with cases that happened decades ago, to try and scare people into paying it.

I have come to the realization that I am too male, and too white to consume product from Hollywood, or the BBC. I can thank executives for pointing this out to me. I am old enough to remember when television shows were meant to be entertaining. With talented writers positive social commentary could even be included in shows meant to spread a positive message. The garbage passing as entertainment today is nothing but political propaganda.

It's even more obscene and unbecoming given that this was supposed to be a _celebration_ of 60 years of the show. There has been no sense of that, only ripping open deep divisions, with RTD gloating about owning the chuds, when what he's actually done is alienated and insulted even the normies.
What was meant to be a celebration of the people who have made and loved this great British institution over generations has become a a bitter ideological spat, a major cornerstone of which is a very new, young subset of fans telling the older fans, some of whom saw it from the very beginning, that the show is no longer for them. And being cheered on by the creators.
It's so very sad. It didn't have to be this way; it could easily have been done with grace and honour for the show's legacy.
They are now fully onboard with the notion that they can retcon established lore because the old lore hurts their feelings, and then spit in the audiences face (who have been loyal to them for years if not decades) and say shut up and watch our propaganda. To them the most important thing is pushing their message and the show comes last.
they rewriting history, they will ban all original works claiming they are racist and sexist and replace them with their own versions, cos they cant create anything new so they usurp established works and update them with the Woke ideology for the next generation

I remember when fandoms bonded together. Didnt matter your race, religion etc you bonded over a love of Star Wars or DnD. Now its the entertainment itself that is splitting the fandom based identity etc.

Growing up a tomboy, loving star wars, lotr, spiderman, etc, I never felt like it wasn't for me. It was the unique/complex characters and great stories that we all related to. Im glad I still have my memories of the golden era of fandom, but I feel so sorry for the kids coming up. They're being force fed poop, with a rainbow marxist fist flag stuck in it.

It's even worse than that, the UK tax payers are subsidising the media companies to make these products. Disney is getting huge tax relief and corporate welfare while millions of UK citizens and workers are living in poverty. The BBC has a tax on every home in the UK in the form of licence fee. I pay for it, I should be able to get what I want. If you pay for a meal but instead got a punch in the gut then you might reasonably return the favour. It's time to get rid of the licence fee and corporate welfare for companies who don't contribute to the wellbeing of the UK population. The BBC is a shell hiding scandal after scandal. It's time it was cancelled.

The fact that actual fans are forced out of fandoms by woke tourists and must wait outside the fandom for them to get bored and leave. On what is supposed to be 60th anniversary celebration, the amount of comments I've seen on official dw pages telling people who have loved the show for decades, in some cases for all 60 years, that they're too old and the show isn't for them anymore, is staggering.

Since the character is supposed to be fifeteen, I think we can assume they still have a penis. The problem with providing for the "Modern audience" is that modern sensibilities changes, so then it becomes dated and looked back on with embarrassment, like an Old man trying to be hip only to see the trend change overnight, and the funny part is that nobody ends up liking it.

Yes they are making a modern audience although they've definitely hit a few snags recently. The real surprise was generation alpha believe it or not. They're a little strange but very very inquisitive and I'll take that five times a day over not thinking things through and not asking questions.

The thing with normies is that they are fickle. They don’t really have a long standing interest in a product or show beyond dipping in and out of something that’s advertised or they are made aware of.
A fan base is exactly that because they have a deep seated interest in the product and want to find out more about previous content, lore and the overall universe it’s set in. Quite often I have discovered something, enjoyed it and then actively searched for other associated content. A prime example would be to read The Hobbit and then go on to read LOTR, The Silmarillion, Lost Tales etc. Something that is well crafted gives you a thirst for more of the same and the more universal the appeal the bigger the fan base grows.
What has happened over the last decade or so is they’ve tried to subvert that organic process and take something established to push their social and political ideas, knowing full well that it would fail should they try to create it by the traditional method. It simply doesn’t have mass appeal and would never succeed on its own merits. The only way left for them is to force it into products with already established audiences.
What I find is really insidious about this is that I think they know that it will ultimately destroy the product. You might have more eyeballs on it due to the legacy nature involved but you’re still pushing ideology without mass appeal. You lose fans who no longer recognise what they once loved and normies don’t stick around because they just don’t have enough interest to stay with it. But they don’t care. They have no love for it. It’s a vehicle, a skin suit to push their warped ideology onto a mass market including children. When it fails they move onto the next one and one by one these legacy IPs die off.
Unfortunately it will keep going, it needs to. They are working their way through every medium, films, tv, games, comics, books, theatre, music. The only way we win is to ignore anything new. Stick to what it was before it was changed. Let it die through apathy and one day it will rise again and return to former glory. It’s inevitable. The demand is there, but only there in its previous form before it was hijacked and changed. At the moment they believe people will eventually come round if they persist with it but it’s a game of chicken they can’t win. They have to spend their money and we, well we just don’t. If we hold our course there can only be one outcome and that will be a return to quality, and sanity.

The best way to play this game is to opt out of the game completely. Don't watch and don't fund it. They can preach to empty chairs and push the message until their franchise dies. And they can call me racist for not watching but ultimately what they say doesn't matter anyways. I haven't watched Doctor Who in years and I refuse to watch any TV show/movie right when it airs. I wait until the reviews are out to know if it's worth it. I suggest everyone does the same. That way you are not force fed propaganda.

It took me awhile but I recently discovered the audio visuals and other than season 4 they're actually pretty good. Also that first episode with the teenage Doctor who is gold. Season 4 also had its moments but I just didn't like the whole Just ice thing.
That's all they do. Sacrifice good storytelling and well-written characters on the altar of the "the message". I won't be watching, and I know I'm far from alone. RIP Doctor Who.

Well the BBC finally gave up on trying to make the DESPERATE 'Post-Clarkson' Top Gear production seem like it was actually successful. And just found a good excuse to completely CANCEL the 'Top Gear' series/brand, which was recently the BIGGEST CASH COW the BBC had EVER had before, or likely will ever again! So I wonder how low popularity of the '15th Doctor' series will need to decline before the BBC is forced to put this OTHER big International property on the chopping block?
Though we must admit, the Beeb have become quite effective at constantly eroding the population of loyal fans created by those 'Premiere' productions over the past decade...

This was an excellent video! One of the biggest issue is that intersectional identity politics are inherently aggressive and radical in their nature, they can't be served as entertaining with subtlety or nuance, it goes against their inherent political nature.

Gaslighting is one of the traits of narcism the others are racism, sexism, projection, playing the victim, xexual abuse, violence, cant take critisism, lust for power, lack of empathy etc etc.
And most importantly, it is an abusive tactic. And one that takes place particularly when there is a marked power imbalance. Which is definitely the case here; they are leaning on & weaponizing massive amounts of institutional, cultural, political, and narrative power.
Btw, a major tactic that they are also weaponizing that's also common in narcissism is triangulation. It's like they're manipulating society into one big Karpman drama cycle.
This leads to existing fan base dropping out and more importantly not introducing others to the material that made them follow it for so many years.
The most dangerous thing that could happen to them is us, "Embracing" the names they call us and "Accepting" the roles we have been given by them!

I love it when your enemy simply tells you outright what their plan is. Dr. Who, like almost all of the genre stuff out there is dead to me.
The best stories are those that look at human morality and the bigger things in life. A message that is a general and spread as a theme throughout the story works so much better. The best stories that lasted the test of time are those that make a person think. The writer doesn't tell you to think one way or the other. For example there are plenty of amazing stories about taking care of nature. Not once in those great stories do you have a random character just preaching random current day issues. They focus on the characters and how they survive. Their stories. In such stories the writer will often show nature for what it is a cruel and harsh mistress but also necessary. A broad message that makes one think and maybe they'll get interested in nature. That's what stories are suppose to do. Spark an interest in something.
Even Star Trek did an alien refugee storyline and both another planet taking them in and another planet not being responsible for or prepared for so many extra people were represented, nobody was dismissed as bigoted or evil but rather pragmatic.
I learned to love nature thanks to nature walks and nature documentaries.
The beauty of living things amazed me.
The delicate complexity of it all astonished me.
The careful balance that all ecosystems exist in struck a sense of urgency in me.
Such beauty that moves the soul and the many material and practical long-term benefits that nature presents to us make it an imperative to us to become good stewards of this planet.
Such subtlety requires both intelligent writing and confidence that your audience is intelligent too. You also have to be willing to have your audience DISAGREE with your position, which isn't too much of a concern when your position is self-evident to most people, but when you want to push an unpopular opinion that has limited real-world reach it can be a bit harder. Especially since modern writers AREN'T intelligent and have no confidence in their audience.

An interesting couple of questions. It may be that the genre is seen - by many of those who don't bother to explore it very deeply - as traditionally the province of straight white male heroes, much more so than in say historical fiction where female authors have regularly had their work translated to film and television. You also need to consider that mainstream critics have held SF in contempt for decades, the praise heaped upon the likes of JG Ballard notwithstanding, so it's hardly surprising if they treat the genre's fans with similar disdain. None of this explains why shows seem to be bullying audiences into a certain way of thinking when there are far more effective ways of pushing a message. As I wrote on another channel, if Davies had taken the trouble to explore the science behind gender dysphoria he'd have come up with a much more satisfying solution to the metacrisis and shown his trans character in an altogether more favourable light.
On the BBC manifesto, entertainment has always been at the bottom. Education is always at the top. So that you have it, the TV programs are designed to program you with new education levels.

Some key moments from gamergate was when gamergate was accused of "weaponizing charity", we tried to prove we weren't horrible people by doing good deeds which, just made us horrible people. Then there was "sealioning" which just meant polite disagreement, because how dare we counter the harassment narrative by not harassing people.
