  • Madame Web's failure is now complete. It can't get over $1,000 per cinema on average. It can't get into the top 3 domestic Box Office and it can't get anyone to see its film. With Dune 2 set to take away their theatre share this movie will likely not even hit $100million WORLDWIDE!!

There's nothing wrong with that. Typical '80s movies had 20-year-olds playing teenagers. As long as they look the part, it's fine. I'd rather have the best actors than the most accurate ages. Otherwise, you're stepping into woke territory like "only a gay actor can play a gay role". No. The best actor for the part is the best way to go. If she's 25 but looks 17, that's fine.

One must conclude that writers in Hollywood have several millions of imaginary friends. They have this imaginary audience they keep making movies for. Who the F are the people they imagine would watch this? WHERE ARE THEY?! And then when their imaginary friends are unable to buy tickets, it is somehow MY fault. OUR fault. The mythical "modern audience" is about as real as Godzilla. The only difference is that Godzilla can generate money.

More like in the OPENING sequence, ideally full on 90s slasher flick DRAMA but with super hero leotards and rooftop settings after a brief crime rescue/powerset-showcase rather than home alone female getting a call. Then follow that up with 3-5 minute shorts of the other characters getting killed before a SnapBack into the psychics dreams and a NEED to prevent that event.
Camera pans to a room filled with news clippings as “ambulance mysteriously in the right place, dispatchers call it the lucky (insert universe number where Madame Webb pulled the adult and experienced Peter Parker into the secret war)” EMS outfit goes on, web effect stretches out from the oddly creased bedding and the keys to a warehouse jangle on the keychain of the ambulance.

Going to be honest here, I’m a woman and if I had been director of the movie I’d have done the same thing. Personal opinion or feelings be darned, the cold hard truth is that if you make a movie with a young, hot female superhero and put her in a tight or skimpy outfit with plenty of gratuitous camera angles, you’re probably gonna make money.
It would be even better if it’s cleverly written, has a decent plot and well designed support characters with a compelling villain. But the skimpy outfit and hot actress alone will get at least some audience.

Silk falls into the same pattern that failed for comic books in the last 10 years. Iron Heart and Ms Marvel did not gel with the broader comic book community either, but for some reason tons of cash were funneled into the titles and then films were launched to capture a non-existent audience. If the audience could not be captured for the price of a comic and the titles failed under the cost structure of publishing a comic, why would these same "creatives" imagine that spending orders of magnitude more money change the audience landscape?

THE FLASH had the second longest running superhero TV series of all-time at 9 seasons. It averaged 4.62 million viewers in the US during its first season. The problem wasn't that he was unknown, it was that Ezra Miller's take on the character had nothing to do with Grant Gustin's.

I actually had some slight expectations for Madame Web when I first heard about it on the radio. But I was immediately put off when I wasn't hearing anything esoteric or mysterious about her from the ads. I watched her on the 90s spiderman cartoon and I was really pissed off back then because she was involved in this big story arc that was always left unfinished.
What I remembered about her was that she was some old woman in a spider-like throne in a mysterious dimension giving out prophecies and such.
When I heard Madame Web, I was thinking this could be another Doctor Strange with a really interesting angle to the movie.
