- Alan Wake 2 is out and is one of the most beautiful games I have ever seen. However beauty is only skin deep and Remedy hired a company called 'Sweet Baby Inc' to develop character arcs, voice work and "sensitivity reading".

What I found amusing was the black couple in the diner complaining about these racist small towns because the deputies immediately suspected them of the murder. But yet they're saying this about what looks like the most racially diverse small town in America.
it was the whitest sounding black couple in the world.... also they stole evidence form the crime scene, the police had every right to expect them lmao.
Reminds me of the Beauty and the Beast remake where her father says they find her odd because it is a small town with small minded people......meanwhile the town itself has black men owning businesses, Lefou hiding his sexuality as subtle as a freight train, and later a cross dresser just walking around......in 1700s France. Spiderman 2, another game this company worked on, has the standard LGBTQ stuff including a side mission helping one man ask another man to homecoming. All of this LGBTQ content was removed from the game that's for sale in Saudi Arabia.

It's very considerate of them. It would be nice to have a "for modern audiences" tag on Steam, so you can set the whole category to ignore.
Companies like that have given me less distractions in the future as I work on perfecting safer Einstein-Rosenburg-Poldawlsky bridges to other realms such as Azura.

@@Tundra. This is basically my list but with a few more additions. The gaming industry, just like Hollywood before it, has saved me SO much money the last few years. All of this shit has also helped me get over FOMO and hype completely. Even if a game is only slightly woke, I won't purchase it until it's at least 60% off, and that's only if I don't lose interest. I own enough good games to never need and buy a new one ever again. Everyone else can have their social engineering garbage if that's what they want.
I buy woke games on steam just to refund them. Pretty sure devs have to eat some of the cost of that refund, or at least they used to.
I think this game is quite realistic, the "diversity hire" in this game, behaves pretty much like a diversity hire would in real life.

I recently played the remaster of Alan Wake 1 on playstation and it was excellent despite the outdated janky gameplay. For example, when Alan Wake meets the town's Sherif ((Who is a good example of a well-written and believable female character)) to speak about his missing wife, he doesn't blurt out any of the supernatural shit he saw and tries to stick to logic and facts to avoid looking suspicious than he already was. Everyone was acting like actual human beings in the story and show shock and terror when faced with the supernatural.
But the *raceswapped* Saga Anderson says _"The body turned into a monster and the sherif vanished"_ and everyone just acts like that's normal and let her exit the morgue without question....while a dead body lies on the floor by their feet.
I knew the ESG, DEI, Wokism factor was in full play the moment I saw the trailer with the newly race-swapped Saga Anderson for the first time. The sequel might be an upgrade in gameplay, but this writting and dialogue is just abysmal. I dunno how Sam Lake is still attached to this; it's embarrasing.
The original Alan Wake is much better. XD
oh the game that actually has the dude FIRST in his own video game with his name on it.
They sure gave the new character Saga the lion share features of the game. She gets to do more stuff like locate the lunch boxes, nursery rhymes, cult stashes, the deer trophies, and manuscripts. You end up playing as her 2-3x more than Wake himself, who's sections are more akin to RE4's Separate Ways. Simply put, Saga is the real main playable character of AW2, with Wake himself a secondary character at best, in a game that features his name no less. Also, it feels very forced having a black character inserted right in the middle of what should've been a showcase of Scandinavian culture with some doses of Norse Mythology.
I played the game for 30 Hours towards end, and I spent 20 of that with Saga, and just 10 for Wake. Which makes it a 2/3 (67%) playing as ratio for Saga. They sure gave Wake, the title character, the short end of the stick in this long awaited sequel.
I just finished that part and it was so unbelievable particularly her partners reaction unless he a FBC agent.
They just never seem to end with this forever wokism bullshit do they? It never ends. Western entertainment trully started dying in 2016... we just didn't want to see it back then.

These days, I assume each experience will be compromised because of what they've done with all the characters, including white and male characters, and pretty much all straight characters. I've reached a level of disrespect towards these companies that even when they make a new game and it's really good, I still won't buy it, I've chosen to never spend my money on these companies ever again. The problem is that people know this kind of thing will happen, but out of love and because they are fans, they will still buy it.

Oh, I’ve learned. I’ve completely given up on Star Wars. Sticking solely with everything before the Disney acquisition
Starfield also has a lot of those "tell, don't show" moments. I found people constantly telling me that I was special, but saw no evidence of it. I don't suck bloody souls into my body, or have any kind of special power, I'm just a normal, average-day miner who happens to be good with a gun and a decent pilot too.
The funny thing is, Skyrim did a super weird version of this. You were the Dragonborn, basically everyone knew it and acknowledged it, but no one treated you like the overpowered threat you were.

You can blame both the developers and publishers. A friend works in the industry for many years. He's seen a huge influx of women & lots of 20-somethings. Hiring managers are told to focus on those two groups. None of these people have much experience so they aren't good writers. Experienced artists are told to make super diverse characters and make sure the women are very plain and heavily covered. It's the mandate now. It won't change. Indie developers are the only hope now.
Sam Lake is arguably one of the best writers in the industry. Why are you complaining about the main character being heavily covered? She's an FBI agent investigating murders, of course she's not gonna wear anything that gets you going
Its not just gaming industry, its in every industry, most have to have at least 30% diversity in the interview pool of choices, some case you need to make an argument why are
you hiring white male. I am talking about industry which is 90% male. One of my friends was even given directive to hire a diverse woman when he cant even find qualified
person among ALL of the pool. Most of the companies got around this by just filling up HR with over hiring to get the proper "average".

The fact that they choose to not focus on Alan and dealing with his problems and trying to solve them throughout the game but have this character take center stage tells you all. If she was a character you played briefly I would not mind tbh but ESG and other elements in this story can’t convince me that a story solely focusing on Alan and her story being told in the background and much later on do you get to play her briefly would not be better. Great video. The police reaction after the morque massacre left me in complete disbelief. That was among the worst writing I ever saw, be it videogame, movie or tv-show. It seems Saga can not be questioned in this game in any way, no matter what is happening or what se does, because, you know, being of a certain colour and gender, one can not be faulted or mistaken.
The whole set of characters as a flat line, and a flatline. There is no emotional or dynamic cadence. The game is an animated corpse of a game.
What a missed opportunity! That could have been spun into her being chased by the town cops, maybe even other agents, while she chases after the cult against the clock. Seriously, a HUGE missed opportunity there. But that's what happens when you bring in a third-party to vandalize the story rather than service the fans.
The reason they don't question it is because they are members of the cult who killed the guy who then resurrects. They're pretending to act surprised, but they already know these monsters exist.

Either the "sensitivity coaches" missed the dialog with Rose or they are absolute shite at their stated job, because the way that waitress just randomly brings up Saga's dead daughter was extremely insensitive. But of course we all know the "sensitivity" they are looking for is nothing more than not having assertive males or portraying woman with any type of flaws.
With context the rose scene makes sense and towards the end of the game saga has a 20-30 minute long sequence where she comes to realise her flaws and insecurities as a detective and mother

That works. Or the sequence in which the symbiote suit is chasing her while peter is asleep inside it, even her becoming Scream. Great choices that makes sense for her character.
Her being able to take down the hunters and symbiotes in one hit, maybe a couple hits when it comes to the larger ones. How are these guys a threat after that? Really a news reporter with an offhand comment than in less than a year she got some fighting lessons from Sable, yet can't be taken down by half competent cops?
I knew what they were doing, and what's sad is they didn't need to when they already had Yuri who could have been a more important character than just a set up with Carnage. I get she's in her punisher mode, but she also knows that the hunters are killing regular people all the time. There would have been ways to get MJ in the action without making her someone that just needs rescue, but also isn't completely dumb. She know's a guy with powers who can turn invisible, yet she feels she is more qualified to do a sneaking mission and save Dr Connors.
Neither Yuri or Felicia has powers yet fill the same quota, could have been utilized. And still make Mary Jane important not just for her personal connections. If Superman and Lois can pull it off, having the actor going so far as to say she didn't want to have an alternate version of her character have powers. Because she felt it would detract from the main character she was playing, and they listened to her. On CW of all places.
See I can rant like a madman to, but mine are actually story based reasons. I don't just say woke propaganda the second something in a story involves a woman, a gay person or a POC. I assure you if Harry had replaced MJ and did all the same things, even if he wasn't sick I would have called BS.
And it's clear from this video that he didn't play much beyond the opening. If he did he would know there are several reasons for why things are the way that they are in this game. Well I was about to purchase the game and has killed all hype I had. Just replayed Alan wake and control in preparation, no signs of wokeness in those. Even quantum break. Now this one has it. I'm done. Saved 70 bucks
Do what you will. but the game isn't woke. It's just not. It is a great follow up to Alan Wake and Control both, just as a Survival Horror game. The story is great, the questions and answers are generally satisfying, and it ties in to every previous Remedy game except Crossfire.
Yeah, this video saves me 70 bucks too in not buying the game. Funnily enough, the last game that I spend 70 bucks on to purchase was Kingdom Come Deliverance, and boy is that game worth every penny and time that I've spend on it. No woke ideology, good fictionalized dramatization of 1400s Bohemia, a well challenging combat, and most importantly of all, no inclusion of any forced diversity that disrespect the culture and history of ancient Bohemia. Kingdom Come Deliverance is how you make a good game without the need to pander to the "modern audiences". Hope the studio Warhorse continues it's success with the upcoming sequel of the game.

And Saga is like, "okay bye!" and just leaves. The next scene the sheriff of the town is asked by Saga what is up with Rose, and the fucking sheriff say, "oh she is just like that." From reading everybody's replies, Rose shows up later in the game but I am not sure if this topic is ever brought up again.

Changing the original character of saga from a blonde nordic women to a black women was a disgusting and cowardly move by the studio. They could have easily said no we are sticking to the original vision. Cowards
The black agent could just be a different person. There was no reason to change her color other than to spit in the face of customers since race swapping is insulting to people of both colors.
I tried pointing all this out when one of the first trailers dropped, and had my replies to the video deleted. They didn't like me pointing out the race swap, and how the actress playing Saga is as racist as the day is long. They REALLY didn't like me pointing out that one of their main narrative leads, a new female hire, was a flaming SJW. Her twitter timeline was a wreck.

In the 40s we had plenty of war propaganda and unsubtle war references in our media and cartoons, the 70s was about as unsubtle with politics as one could get, and the early to late 2000s wouldn’t shut up about how 9-11 was bad and how terroism was bad. I don’t like it either, but don’t pretend like this hasn’t been the case with media before.
I loved Control, but considering it's made by the same people and even takes place in the Alan Woke universe, I am NOT optimistic for what a Control 2 will be like.

I haven’t played it but I would have been worried because a lot of people said the story was mediocre compared to Remedy’s past offerings.
And that’s saying something considering they made Quantum Break.
Remedy are aiming to work with Rockstar to do remakes of Max Payne apparently, just putting that out there.
I regret buying this game, I could have bought Pikmin 4 and Mario wonder for what i pride for Alan wake 2.

I wouldn't be able to bring myself to pay sweet baby for their "work" if this was the shit show level of talent they brought to the table? How could you, as a studio head, see the morgue scene aftermath dialogue...and not turn to them with stoney face and demand rewrites or no pay. I just...that was absolutely awful.

That, right there.. is the problem. They don’t see it. Have you noticed how they coddle each other and try to only say positive things? There used to be actual effort put into games: Researching the hell out of the topics / themes presented, paying attention to even the most minuscule details, etc. Now that most game studios and pretty much all of these woke companies are either run or heavily influenced by young(er) activist women [Yeah I said it!], it’s all gone downhill. They don’t care about the details anymore because they’re too occupied with finding even more ways to insert “the message”. Go to any University in Northern America and talk to some of the students there. It’s absolutely bonkers how indoctrinated nearly everyone is these days. These people then get a job as a developer, or worse yet... diversity coach or some such nonsense and have thus infiltrated even the most robust gaming studios with “the message”.
Oh boy, I've heard rumors about this being a complete -ism shitshow. Wellp, one of my coworkers is super intent on buying this and absolutely blows a casket when his games have any woke garbage involved. I can't wait to hear his opinion on it.

The writing in this game should embarrass everyone who had anything to do with it.
It's such a shame, because the previous game in this universe, Control, was one of the best games of 2019, and also an example of how to do a female protagonist the right way. Jesse was a great character I was happy to play as, I platinumed that game twice. The DLC that directly related to the Alan Wake incident was great as well.
Really shows the difference companies like Sweet Baby make in such a short time. Heck, to look at another 2023 woke mess, Spider Man 2 absolutely pales in comparison to the OG in terms of writing. The final scenes with Doc Ock and Aunt May are some of the best Spiderman moments in all media. And now look at the drivel in the sequel. And that drop in quality happened in a similar time frame to AW2 (2018-2023).
Jesse wasn’t some Mary Sue she had Polaris help her, it was Jesse’s determination to find her brother while using Polaris.

@@danin900 It had horrendous performance but the story was a solid "OK." It wasn't great but it wasn't bad. The black FBI character was pretty terrible though and there was a cringy moment where York lectures a cop for misgendering a trans killer. *eye roll*

@@jamespryor8906 It's rich how you try and claim those who critique the game's horrible writing don't like to use their brains, but at the same time tries to push the false and very ignorant notion that a game's financial success is somehow an indication of how good or bad it is in terms of creative quality. It seems like you are projecting your own inability to use your brain in any meaningful way. A game can sell very well and still be a flawed game. If financial success was an indication of creative quality, then plenty of Fifa Games, Call of Duty games and "Overwatch" games would have been considered "masterpieces", and would've won all of the game awards. This game is objectively bad and it's all due to the poor writing, the poor pacing, the awful structure compared to the first game and most importantly the awful dialogue.

You should always wait and let content creators play it before you buy anything, simply due to so many games being broken at launch. You have to make sure that it works and is any good. Learned my lesson with Necromunda: Hired Gun. I desperately wanted a good Warhammer 40K action game and wanted to believe in it, and the reality was a terrible, far from finished product. Never again I told myself. You should do the same from now on.
