He's such a perfectionist. It must be very exhausting, if he puts so much effort into every little sound and detail. I love him for that and he's a real genius, but it must be incredibly hard for him to ever call a song "finished", to let go and release an album...
This is so fucking cool, I feel grateful to have seen it. How fucking fun would that be? To sit there and try to come up with new sounds in new, innovative ways like that? That is some fancy art right there. Thank you!
I had NO IDEA just how hands-on he was with his synth work until watching this. His work is as intricate as Throbbing Gristle's and early SPK's, except you can really see Trent being super finicky with getting it juuuust right. I mean, I've always known that he was exceedingly meticulous with his musicianship...but I never fathomed that it would be anything as detailed like we see, here. I'm a NIN 'Halo' collector, and I've always deeply appreciated the quality of Trent's craft. But my appreciation of his artistry has gone, inextricably, through the roof after having seen this. ... I hope Trent shows up to play alongside Martin Atkins when Pigface do their online performance this Saturday...
Utterly spellbinding. Anyone into synthesis needs to see this process of that pinging...it's a "different drummer"...(also the name if an app which gives similar results). Genius.
And can we all just take a moment to notice the value of a good friggin copilot. They are everything. Someone that will stay right in tune with you and anticipate what you need before you ask etc. They are imperative and essential to an artist, since thats how humans learn and survive and evolve. They soak up the influence of the people around them. So a good- NO-A GREAT COPILOT, WINGMAN, or MUSE IS VITAL IN THE SUCCESS OF AN ARTIST. They can elevate the artist with their indirect influence and relaiblity when needed -or completely hinder and dampen their creative force.
Excuse me Mr. Vampin #6... YOU must go for it, or else YOU fail! If YOU need/want help, dialme at " * 1 - 8 _ 0 - 6 _ 7 - 7 _ 1 - 1 _ 2 - 5 _ 5 * " & ask for robby?
I read a comment the other day by a typical know all. Saying TR has lost his spark and his recent stuff is made just on a laptop. TR wouldn't cheat that way. So I pointed out yonhim that he is judging TR from his own poor foundation and to go and make a grime track from ready made Samples. Music is dying under the weight of I.T experts now running music. Thank de Lord for TR.
Year Zero was indeed largely done in the box on a laptop. It was begun while on tour. Trent said that he wanted to see what he could do with just the laptop (and obviously guitars and vocals). The result is a very collage-like dystopian rock soundtrack that I love. Trent likes to try to reinvent his methodologies every few years so he doesn’t repeat himself in terms of technique or get bored. It’s an admirable thing to do, even if it means losing certain fans who want him to keep making the same thing over and over (and I personally would love another The Fragile, but I’ve learned to find something I love in each album).
It's called a luminist garden by a company called folktek. It's basically a box with a microphone inside. It's has effects like delay and the top has guitar strings poking out and you can make some warped sounds with it
That’s wild that he has 2 guys recording his works. Just shows how people commit to Trents creativity. Edit😭 if you ever read this I’d love to put some percussions forward... uk
Was a fun comment i saw dave live in the wasting light tour n he commented strongly at his dislike for computers and just loves to rip it up n rock out with just drums n guitars i love both these artists heaps #respect
After the 90s Trent lost it. I think money distorted his visions. He used to be a musician, now he’s a clean cut business man wearing a suit. It’s almost as tragic as Cobain dying.
You clearly haven’t been paying attention to what Trent Reznor is actually doing now. Seriously, do you see a fucking business suit? Does he need to have long hair to meet your approval?
All the musicians in the world : "I need a guitar a bass and a drums"
Trent Reznor : "I need a towel, metal rods and a hammer"
Well, him and scott walker
Ha
the McGyver of music
And Author and Punisher

No olviden a ATTICUS ROSS
Years later and he still hits his synths :)
Damn. With all of these cool gadgets, Trent Reznor is definitely the Batman of musicians.
XD so true!
he is! lol... he even got his batcave... lol, and MM is the joker...
@@Gabrielarbizazuluaga well clearly he is a fan of violence
@@Gabrielarbizazuluaga MM not Trent
This is like watching the first form of life being created
before UA-cam, before the fucking interweb, this the shit I use to dream about, wishing to see him at work!
Perfectly said.
Same
the madd musician tinkering with the molecules of my soul.
This is so fucking cool, I feel grateful to have seen it. How fucking fun would that be? To sit there and try to come up with new sounds in new, innovative ways like that? That is some fancy art right there. Thank you!
I feel like im watching an episode of Breaking Bad right now.
Yeah, great camerawork and directing.
Even his unintentional moves sound amazing
So true.
Atticus and Trent are the best duo ever imo
like a painter working on layers

He has some crazy stuff I wish I had this shit to play around with , interesting to say the least. NIN fan forever.
😄"what else could I hit it with?" How awesome is this? Love it! Thanks for sharing! 👍👍
Trent Reznor is a freak, I love it....one of a kind innovator for sure
sounds like "the way he looks at me" from Gone girl
Seeing Dadzor working his magic is so interesting.
6:37 *SOMETHING'SGONNAGETBROOOOOKEN!!!!!!!!!*
I guess nobody else got this.
Great to see some new creations
So, that's how they probably make those clicking /sticking out frequencies in the mix
trent and the chemical brothers. legends in my world.
Wow... I want/need more!
incredible
This is pure magic. Thanks TrentAtticus keep going!
I think or at least it sounds like they're working on the soundtrack for Gone Girl or The Social Network.
Utterly spellbinding. Anyone into synthesis needs to see this process of that pinging...it's a "different drummer"...(also the name if an app which gives similar results). Genius.
Incredible!!!
magic.

oh my god thank you
whoa cool

I want to be that hammer.
i've like when he says 7:57.
POV: GOD MAKING MANKIND
what in the holy hell is that epic instrumentation he is smacking ...I need that ...no... I MUST have that =)
“Make cool sounds you whiskery critter or I’ll get out the hammer”
Check out Vuneny, if I haven't heard it, it's new to me.
A FUCKING GENIUS
genius
This oozes my husband's dream sound lab. Thank you for sharing! Wife of a musician 💚
He's using a hammer.... that is all I have to say...
Damn....own version of sounds
The beat sounds like a slow but persistant heartbeat of a broken hearted war drum.

Jamis Billson I think I read somewhere that year zero was made entirely on a laptop lol

Where is this upload from??
Is that some Echo chamber type thing, I can hear a rhythmic pulse after Trent hits it with a hammer.
I don't even know what's happening here
try a cheap dollar tree rubber malot
Interesting contraption
Anyone know what this ended up being?
Can someone tell me what the hell he's playing and what he's doing hitting it at the beginning?
7:04 NI Maschine Studio?
did i just hear someone's kid on the background? haha
Reznor's. This is a home studio i think.
What is the machine he is using?
It's called a luminist garden by a company called folktek. It's basically a box with a microphone inside. It's has effects like delay and the top has guitar strings poking out and you can make some warped sounds with it
Magnetic pickups not microphone.
DeL UsioN no it’s def a piezo contact mic with guitar string soldered to it
That’s wild that he has 2 guys recording his works. Just shows how people commit to Trents creativity. Edit😭 if you ever read this I’d love to put some percussions forward... uk
What kind of percussion sound do you create? T~
Is that some sort of spring reverb synth?
Looks like something the Dewan cousins would build.
Folktek
What kind of synthesizer is he using?
Luminous garden by folktek
what is he using?
he's sober now.
michalus09 im sure he meant what equipment is he using haha
No way!
He use different Folktek instruments. The one he use on the video is the Luminist Garden
luminist garden
What is that thing?
custom made machine called the Luminist Garden
NiN 7:31 -\|/-
dont let dave ghrol see this...he hates computers lol
Was a fun comment i saw dave live in the wasting light tour n he commented strongly at his dislike for computers and just loves to rip it up n rock out with just drums n guitars i love both these artists heaps #respect
Listen to MONTRA it has Dave and Trent working together. Come on folks...... geez
+Meredith Hester and that was like 4 years ago. I'm from the freaking sticks in Arkansas and I know this....... smh
+Meredith Hester MANTRA***** damn auto correct 😡
wheres this from?
BUh UUH -New NiN Album on The Way
Ałeč Gütierrez - i hope so, but where was this originally uploaded?
I don't remember where i found it and it's not from a new album. It was for the work on "Gone Girl".
Exactly, here is the link:
itunes.apple.com/us/post/idsa.7477d856-25f3-11e5-a009-3b41a61d0d7c
I think.. "The Way He Looks at Me", "Strange Activities" and "Clue Two" from the Gone Girl soundtrack
After the 90s Trent lost it. I think money distorted his visions. He used to be a musician, now he’s a clean cut business man wearing a suit. It’s almost as tragic as Cobain dying.
Idiot Savant and I would say you couldn’t be further from the truth...
Or that Reznor's not foolish enough to pretend he's a 20 year old rock and roll junkie and moved the fuck on. Just like you should.
You clearly haven’t been paying attention to what Trent Reznor is actually doing now.
Seriously, do you see a fucking business suit? Does he need to have long hair to meet your approval?
his passion for music goes farther than just screaming into a mic covered in mud on stage
Yes, totally, Manson still got it, right? 😂
