Blocking the emergency door adds an extra element of danger.

Bonkers

Lol, they probably have no exit windows or fire sprinklers either.
Well done. Yes. Good. :)
As much as I love Peter Murphy, when Trent starts singing, it feels like spotting a friend in a crowd of strangers.
couldn't have explained it better myself!!
True
Yet, I love Pete's quivering voice.
EXACT feeling I had wow
I would kill to be there and just sit ans be high and listen to this
In '98 Bauhaus played at the amphitheatre around my city. I was fortunate enough to meet Peter Murphy. Oddly, I met him at a Toys'R'Us while he was looking for a xylopone for his kid. Gracious man. Tall and spectacular. His speaking voice is commanding.
The way Peter uses the physical space around the mic is amazing. Moving himself to create the space and volume effects with his voice. Genius stuff right there.
YES!!!
Hahahahaha
This is one of those UA-cam gems that you find then have to come back to all the time. Actually, the whole session they did together is pretty addicting.
I was just re-listening to the downward spiral and reptile now sounds bland compared to this session! Had to get on youtube to get my fix :)
I have been coming back and watching this video for 7 years now. Its Legendary.
Gotta Luv 'Em
@@nomnoomz I dunno if I'd say this version is better actually. This version is a bit more melodic and 'sexy' sounding with more vocal flair but the original has a true industrial rawness which this one lacks. Downward Spiral version sounds desperate and evil even.
Where could I find that whole session.
So, Trent is a god. This is undebatable. But what Murphy did in this ? Bloody fucking hell, that was impressive. That guy knows what a mic is, and what it can do. Seriously brilliant. Thanks, guys.
God, this performance hasn't aged a day. Who do we have to pay to get Trent and Peter to do a whole album together?
Probably a meth dealer
If it was me you had to pay, I'd do it for a dollar.
Would be amazingggg
Yea - And I would like to see Michael Jordan play with a high school student.
@@xlerosxh'okay, lame-o!
What an absolute moment in history. The energy in that room is just ridiculous. Wow
This is simply AMAZING. It bugs me that people say Peter Murphy is trying to be David Bowie. Have you guys never heard of Bauhaus, the band he was the front man for? The genre is GOTH. This is how he's always sounded, since the 80's. Love him!
+aliboog99 i know right
Yes but he try to be similar bowie's voice since 80s(bowie was/is a Huge influence for so many singer you can't event count they, in particular in 80s ) , and just to be clear I love bauhaus music and I admire PM.
people are stupid
aliboog99 that is what it is. This is obviously how it comes out of him and I he’s probably comfortable with his voice and influences
Yep. Bauhaus. I saw them live in Germany late 80s. I think it was awesome, but I was far too fucked up to be sure! Good times!
Peter Murphy could read the phone book and I'd tune in. The guy's voice is amazing. I'm glad he got a chance to work with Trent Reznor.
Trent Reznor has been a huge fan of Bauhaus for years so I'm sure this was just as much an honor for him as it was for anybody else in that room. I bet it was pretty cool to be able to work with one of his idols.
packetcreeper I fucking live in it
I have LITERALLY been saying that for years!!! Peter Murphy is a god!!!
You mean you’re glad that Trent Reznor got a chance to work with Peter Murphy ! Trent just imitated his style copied him and made more money let’s get the facts straight Peter was first.
@@luisjoselopeziii236 - EXACTLY. How the hell do people not know this?
I religiously listen to this everyday, at the beggining of the day. Adds a sense of perspective to my experience in this world. Fuckin' hell mate, it's beautiful.
This song is about loving a whore. It's a great song but I'm sure this is only adding to a sprit nihilism in you and that might not be somewhere you want to dwell long. Just my 2 cents, you do you bud
Makes me feel like Atlas lifting the globe.
This song makes me feel unfuckingstoppable I listen to it when I work out and pretty much on a daily basis Peter Murphy is a genius and Trent is a god
The way Peter places his body against the microphones and the way he manipulates them in order to achieve this vocals is on an other level.
exactly... and above there is just the sun!
These guys are all studio pros. The way Peter moves closer or farther away from the mic acting as his own volume fader is next level.
I'm convinced Trent fully converted into a machine long ago. His vocals are so consistent, whether live or in someone's living room converted into a once and a lifetime music experience.
Someone failed to pay attention to the lyrics of "The Becoming"
LOL "He's more machine than man now"
Gun in one. Bible in the other
The real
His voice has got more deep over the years
christ, i cannot imagine the euphoria of being in that room
think of how that fly was feeling!
I can. Hi Ash.
glorena the fly was swimming in the gastric ocean of the old lady. We don’t know why she swallowed that fly. But she was the old woman who did that often. ‘Tis a pity she swallowed that fly.
Imagine the business guy in the next room trying to fucking sleep.
Funny how you call that euphoria, and I call that raging hardon.
The groove on that bass riff is absolutely filthy
This needs to be released on a b sides album
Too perfect...the professionalism of each one of them is so evident here. Controlling every aspect of their sound at such a high level.
Peter Murphy is a damn good vocalist. Changing mics and distance etc to create cool effects. So analogue.
Amazing ... sleazy and beautiful.
YES! SLEAZY is perfect!

@@Torey3D So wrong that it's right !
Sleazy is the right word for this!
Man Peter Murphy took this song to another level!
It sounds awful
@@negativeindustrialit sounds 10x better than the original. I actually listened to this version first and when I finally got to listen to the original I couldn't believe how bad it sounded
Watching Trent play a simple bass line like that means he is a genius.
i know right! that bass line was incredible!
NIN bass lines make Sabbath riffs feel like Sesame Street.
Does anyone know how Trent gets this distorted bass tone?
@@ivankryzh ua-cam.com/video/Su677cqIrWc/v-deo.html
@@ivankryzh Probably only Trent-LOL-I keep coming back to this too
I like nine inch nails, but when they perform with people from the old guard; Gary Numan, Peter Murphy, et al, it really kicks it up a notch for me. I dunno what it is...
It's the best of two generations doing what they do together, and having a great time doing it. So much talent in one place, and so much admiration going both ways is wonderful to behold. And the songs themselves just kick ass, so of course they'd kick even more ass with the GothLords playing them together!
Neat to see the creative energies bounce off and reinterpret one another.
I call that euphoria
Gary Numan is easily the best "feat" *so far*
Agree!
I'm shocked no one mentioned the transition into Love & Rockets' "Haunted when the minutes drag". Absolutely incredible.
Mickeyd - exactly, and if you know the history there, it makes it even more remarkable.
I like that Murphy sang on a song some of his former bandmates wrote without him.
A testament to an artist who knows good music.
Mickeyd incredible!!!!
Best part!
@@lawrenceosborn8715 how?......Haunted?....
10 years of watching this video (since NIN posted it) and I still think Trent and Atticus......err....NIN should come out with an album featuring Peter Murphy as lead vocals.
Dude shut up he sounds like shit
@@damien136 Have you cleaned your ears out in a year's time?
@@SAS-jj8yh his vibrato at the end of "been" sounds like ass.
@@damien136 think about it though, regardless of if you like how it sounds, isn't it unique? He brings that quality to all his songs, and that's an individual mark he's left. Personally I love the sound of his voice 😊
@@SAS-jj8yh for me it took some getting used to, but I really like this version now

It’s 2024… and I’m watching again.
Moi en 2024🙏
First time for me. 4/28/2024. By the way, today would have been the birthday of Saddam Hussain. Oh well.
I did not know I needed Peter and NIN performing together till now.
saw NIN open for Peter Murphy and the Church in 1990 I think , they have known each other for a while. I thin that was the Deep tour.
@@telias972 That is awesome! Now I just need Steven Wilson to tour with NIN, I know he's a big fan.
@@TimeandMonotony was interesting to see NIN in the early days, I saw them open for a few acts, It was either Minsitry or KMFDM or skinny puppy or something. All these people knew the words to their songs and I had not heard of them yet. Not sure if the album was out yet. Their show wasn't great as it was obvious everyone had drank too much. I think he was still writing and maybe living downward spiral. We were along for the ride. maybe 1988? I cant remember anything.
i meant pretty hate machine... told you i cant remember
@@telias972 I'm jealous, even if it wasn't a great show! It must be cool to have seen a band before they went big, that way you can compare how far they came from that time. ☺
It's 2020, and this song is still far into the future.
Yea, and the whores are more precious than at any time before. And they need money more than ever.
Great collaboration. Trent is a legend already for pioneering a new genre, but it's incredible how he compliments iconic singers like Bowie and Murphy.
Personal tips from him.

Such a great version. Peter Murphy delivers Reznor like he invented Reznor.

This video is timeless. You're not late
Thanks all. Big NIN fan from the early days and following Trent's journey. Saw him live with MM in Jacksonville back in the late 90s.
Same but even longer wow
In 2019, this is still friggin amazing!!!! And I stumbled upon this!!!!!! Been a Nin fan since the downward spiral!!!!
Found this today and I can relate. I was listening to downward spiral in 9th grade lol. This was a trip.
I found this a few months ago crazy song
George, they may be very hard to find nowadays but look for the singles cd’s for SIN, DOWN IN IT and HEAD LIKE A HOLE. Several remixes on there that all released prior to or in 1992. Masterpieces.
Omg the downward spiral is the best album ever. Such a MASTERPIECE
That’s some serious fuzz on Trent’s bass
Love it!!
Mr Peter Murphy and Mr Trent Reznor, both musical geniuses. Also, that guitar at the end, perfection.
Did no one catch the lyrics "haunted: when the minutes drag" at the end? Those come from the Love And Rockets' song "Haunted." Love and Rockets were comprised of Murphy's Bauhaus band mates. Very cool and interesting connection.
yeah I caught it!
It was tough to catch, he only said it about 40 times
YUP!
Thank you!
You are a scholar and gentleman for pointing that out!!!
Peter Murphy is a legend. I saw him when he was in Bauhaus.
Yeah, it bugs me, how so many don't know his awesomeness
Hey! He's still in Bauhaus! I just saw them all together performing just a few weeks ago!
I envy you!
Trent and Peter compliment each other wonderfully as vocalists, this is a great version of this song. That bass is so slimey. Love it!
I absolutely love this song. Have been listening to it for years and years. But, add Peter Murphy to it, who I had never heard of before, and it takes on a whole new magical song that transcends from the other. Beautiful song
It would be amazing if Reznor produced one of Peter Murphy's albums. Basically I want it to be like NIN but with Murphy's amazing vocals (Trent can do backup if he wants).
Always wanted to hear a Garbage album produced by Trent, I think Shirley Manson and Trent would make an amazing album.
Hell yeah! Just like his work on Saul Williams's NiggyTardust album...
F**king hell!!!! How good is this??? WOW
too damn good.
It’s so good right now.
Peter Murphy is the God of Gothic. I love him. “Cuts You Up” is probably one of my all time favorite songs. ♥️
This song is so magical. Nothing like it. I was fortunate enough to have this come up in my recommendeds. At first I was like, "oh, pretty cool". Then 3 months later I still come back to it time and time again. If under-rated had a definition, this would be it. The vibe is unexplainable.
11 years later ...... This is fucking awesome. I don't even mind the fly that much anymore.
Peter Murphy gives this song a debauched swagger totally lacking in the original which combined with the much grittier bass tone really makes this version a complete evolution of 'Reptile'...
Yes!
If this really Iggy Pop commenting on a collaboration between Peter Murphy and Trent Reznor, then the Internet is now complete. We are done here, people. There's nothing else cooler than this.
Really tho ut lacks the desperation and rawness the original had....it's pretty subpar imo
Well said
The original had an effortlessly dark feel.
WHY HAS NOBODY INFORMED ME OF THIS
WHY AM I JUST NOW DISCOVERING IT 14 YEARS LATER

Oi Mothballs open your ears.

I feel your pain.
But it was actually created 18 years ago.
I watch this about once a year.....it NEVER fails to deliver!!!
Just watched this anew after a 12 year break, and I am still floored. Absolutely the best version of Reptile out there in my opinion.
Trents all like "no Jeordie, u do not get to play that epic bass line"
They both play bass and guitar it's not a issue.. can anyone tell me why Trent says TWIG really stern a few time was he getting off chord??

Trent Reznor is always flawless. Love this performance.
Fricking STELLAR!!!
And then to morph into Love & Rockets ‘When the Minutes Drag’! Phenomenal!
Masters of their craft.
Rumor has it that fly is still flying around the room to this day waiting for an encore
I saw NIN with Peter Murphy perform this live in Worcester MA and I believe it also was 2006 & it was epic! Peter Murphy sounds amazing here and was perfect that night too! People that say anything bad about his vocals are just wrong, period, end of story!! Much love to all here ❤️
There are no words to really describe this performance. I’m so happy I watched it til the end. This is my new favorite live version now. Blessed be to Trent, an actual rock god.
I love where it switches up near the end and that guitar part was just amazing. I have no words for how great that was. Sometimes you hear a piece of music that it's so good it almost touches your soul.
I am on a never-ending search for a sex song list that isn't filled with R&B and stupid classics. This is ridiculous hot..
Surely NIN has quite a few to add to the list
Check some deftones content as well
nothing like lyrical imagery about insects crawling into a pussy to get you horny
Hell yeah
Check out Massive Attack -Mezzanine
Gotta love Peter doing double duty and backing his own vocals.
I can't describe the goosebumps I have, watching and listening to this. As if Trent pulled in Peter Murphy. My life is just so much better right now.
Nothing better than this version of this song. This is what I want to hear going from this life into whatever is beyond.
That's awesome everyone should have a soundtrack 4life... And life here / there / know everywhere/ after. Maybe you should pick a couple songs from the ghosts album also... Some people say that this 8-minute track is the song you hear within the confines of purgatory... Some people say. Good luck keep your chin up
I have been a NIN fan since Pretty Hate Machine (I am telling my age here)! What I always loved about Trent is the diversity of musicians he works with. He has always collaborated and I love it! Peter Murphy, Atticus Ross and Jeordie White are all great musicians! They defiantly brought a new more gritty sound to Reptile❤️
Totally agree! I remember using my grass-cutting money to buy that CD! The diversity of his work is what is so impressive. Then, when he pretty much gave away the banjo riff from Ghosts for Old Town Road, I gained a new respect for him as an artist.
Same here been listening since 1989
Did you see what he did for Halsey?
Pretty Hate Machine is one of those albums for me that is perfect start to finish anytime.
When I was a teenager I looked into what bands my favorite bands were influenced by, and that's how I got into and fell in love with Bauhaus and Peter Murphy.
I don't think I've seen anyone use his position from the mic so perfectly quite like Peter is in this video.
Especially as someone my age who has seen little other than singers practically shoving the whole mic into their mouths my entire adult life.
That bass tone is just pure evil. Just filthy.
@ɮօʊռċɛ օʄʄ Bass guitar, played by Trent Reznor.
Just want to comment on the fact that Trent is wearing “Dad Shorts” and he’s still badass
Trent humbles himself by playing base.
A true artist. I cannot ignore this man if I tried.
The devil himself needs to copystrike this video for that absolutely FILTHY bass tone! Sounds just pure evil.
it's a dirty vile little riff.. doesn't even hesitate to go down deep on that scale and rawdog the fuzz box with love
Hahaha this is great!-Devil
I know its just straight up falling angel stuff I feel sleepy after I fill my ears with deman last
I mean Sleezy not sleepy...
The last word was opposed to be "LUST" sorry my French is a little skiddy like my chonies ..haha
Perfect, even the fly.
Lik3SomethingNew ahhhhh I saw that. fits good with NIN's theme of flies
James Stewart -- Maybe it was one of Trent's intentional references, lol. Like he's referencing the video for "Help Me I am in Hell."
There was a fly? Oh that’s interesting. I made a picture, well a really great picture happened I caught on my camera. A fly died on the head of a q-tip in a window sill and I said “cliiiick”. I edited the picture and made it really arty. It’s better than arty. It is really good it could win awards or be shown somewhere that is a spectacle in a difficult city to be seen in if someone else wanted it to. But just before this notification of a comment on this video came to my phone I was watching some guy I never saw before Know Better or something. He was talking about 4K res and he said we don’t see split second things no matter the resolution. I didn’t look the whole time watching this so I don’t know why I didn’t see a fly but it must have been while I was reaching around or shifting my legs trying to be less uncomfortable in the bathroom.
Great song. Great artists!!! NIN!!!!
Anything Trent touches turns into gold
What a voice Pete Murphy has!
I can not express how much I needed this right this very moment. PERFECT. 🌟
Trent playing a Fender Standard Precision Bass, sounds pretty angry
I could watch this all day, it's just so perfect
I think he had it running through the Mini Moog for that gritty tone.
Fly in the room is the most lucky insect in the world)))
Like, not being eaten up by a nasty reptile...

Yeah, I'd love to be that fly on that wall.

Omg hearing Peter Murphy sing one of my favorite Nin songs is amazing
💜💜💜still in love in 2020
Yup. Definately.
This is art. Just when I thought I couldn't love this song more.
This video made me a fan of Peter, his singing is next level. Not many people can take these lyrics and make them alive other than Trent. The sound of night.
truth... "the sound of night" is purrrfect.
Peter’s amazing at that in general. Bauhaus has done a lot of covers over the years, and they’re always incredible. I actually prefer their version of Ziggy Stardust to Bowie’s
Best version. Been jamming to this ever since.

This was 2 weeks after the 6-6-06 performance of NIN, Bauhaus and TV on the Radio at Oak Mtn Amphitheatre in Birmingham, Alabama.

WOW. That was amazing , can't believe I am hearing this in 2019...!
I know especially that part at the end where it changes up and twiggy's guitar playing is just wow. I love that part. I I think that's probably one of the best guitar riffs I've ever heard aside from the one in Electric Funeral by Black Sabbath and the one in junkhead by Alice in Chains.
this shit is fucking unreal. i feel so blessed this exists bro
I’m just picking up on the fact that there was a different plan for this track than what it became. Peter is asking for Twiggy to sing the “Haunted, Haunted” portion, so that he can handle the echoing screams and “when the minutes drag”. Alternatively, the Twiggy was on “Haunted”, Murphy was on screams, and Trent was on “when the minutes drag”.
Maybe Twigs didn’t feel like singing that day.
