As a musician, I would be so intimidated by Trent. Genius.

Saved this file 20 years ago, posted it 10 years ago, now 10 years after that Trent and NIN get inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame and has won multiple Oscars and Emmy awards for his composed soundtracks.
8 years ago I said I wonder if he'll be remembered in 200 years. Now there's no question. Of course he will.
He is one of the best Musicians/Composers and has been for 32+ years. (counting from "Down in It" era '88 and beyond.)

I really wish there was more live footage of NIN in the studio making the first four albums. I've spent a lot of time using my ears to try and figure out how they did that. Would be nice to just be able to see it. Thanks for this!

He's so talented it actually blows my mind sometimes. He's in charge in the studio and knows exactly what sound he wants that's in his head.

Absoloutley amazing watching that man work, unrivaled talent. Musician is not the right word for him. Composer always fit better in my mind...
I only hope 200 years from now he'll be remembered as we do the greats like Mozart and Beethoven.

My favorite musical pairings of any of the Nine Inch Nails live eras. Robin just rips the life out of that guitar, Danny was always an equal counterpoint of madness to him, Charlie Clouser was wild back there with some of the most creative synth work ever on stage (the theremin!), and Jerome Dillon laid down the most creative drum patterns.

Fragility 2.0 was my first and most memorable NIN concert.
Since then I was lucky enough to see 9 more.
WITH_TEETH at a very small club, 1500 people.. amazing, but I'm short and the crowd was kinda rough trying to get close so I ended up taking back seat by the bar and sitting up on the top edge of a lounge chair...but a very personal feel.
5 LITS over N/A mini tour, and a NIN|JA show. Sadly by then I was broke and never saw Wave Goodbye :/
No wheels for Self Destruct. Major :( on that one.

@zappaus He was during the writing of the album itself. He was drinking a lot and had writers block, that is why there are so many instrumental pieces.
Trent struggled with alcoholism for a few years After The Self Destruct tour in '95, partly because his grandmother died as well as his dog which he took everywhere even when touring.
If you watch the Closure video you can see the dog with him. Was either a Golden Retriever or Lab, can't quite remember right now.

It's refreshing to see an actual artist who is a real musician. And can speak and understand real music.
All these faux music artists today don't even know what a note is. And their music is terrible because of it.

@bridizzle69 -That's not why Josh is playing with NIN now. Jerome got diagnosed with a heart condition and can never play drums again. The set that's right here in this video is for sale at the West LA Guitar Center. Pretty shitty if you ask me.

    • @jharbid

Yup, people used to laugh at me back in the 90's when I said he'd be remembered like the greats, 200 years from now they'll still be listening to NIN. Which makes him a Composer, not just a Rock artist.
Not to mention personally I've seen him play Synth, Guitar, Bass, Xylophone, Triangle, Tambourine and of course Piano.

Looks to be a G&L. Either an L-2000 or M-2000. Known for their interchangeable tonal capabilities. I owned the 5-string variant of the L for some time. Really the only bass you need when it comes to writing in the studio.
