DEWALT FLEXVOLT 60 V Brushless 9 in. Cut-Off Saw DCS690 Review
I first laid my eyes on the Dewalt FLEXVOLT 60 V brushless cut-off saw at the 2018 World of Concrete trade show.
A year later, I’m still amazed at the innovation of this cordless tool, probably because it’s cordless, and requires NO GAS! Recently I took this saw to my jobsite, to test it out. Below are my thoughts.
Flexvolt Cut-Off Saw
The Flexvolt cut-off saw cuts up to 3-1/4 In. deep, it has a brushless motor that provides up to 6,500 RPM and has a belt-less, all-metal drive chain, eliminating belt and tension adjustments.
Designed to cut multiple materials such as:
Concrete
Paving stones
Steel rebar
Cast iron,
Steel and stainless steel
Aluminum
Adjustable Blade Guard
A 5-position guard allows you to rotate the guard to achieve different angles for optimal visibility, like cutting near the wall and floor connections.
The guard adjusts easily by pulling back, and holding, the guard rotational release lever.
Cut Visibility
The cut visibility on this saw is decent, especially on the left side. The right side has the chain drive box which sticks out a bit and as a dominant right handed user I found myself leaning out to see past it. When I changed hand positioning, the site line improved significantly.
Cordless Power
The tool has a weather sealed battery door box that locks closed with a secure and durable latch. The ½” [13mm] blade wrench is also stored in this sealed box, which is a great spot for it.
A switch safety lock allows locks the trigger from accidental operation. - Авто та транспорт
Where cordless technology has got never ceases to amaze me, I’ve gone almost completely cordless and hardly ever have to get the 110 out
We're almost to the point now where we'll have to tell apprentices our stories about back in the day when we used to plug tools into extension cords and have to roll them up at the end of the day.
T L S true
Ya now you'll have to tell stories about how you went to collect your charger and your +150$ battery is missing.
Capt_ McNugget haha
Just bought one of these little jewels, used it and love it. Great addition to my Dewalt lineup.
Can't wait to get my hands on this one! Great video as always!
Just got it today …test on Monday next week 👍👍👍
Great video, the saw has alot of good features that I didn't know until your video!
Thanks
Great review. I just may have to add this to my dewalt tool collection. I know it will be well used on some of my larger jobs
So yet another sterling review, thank you. However! You're really giving my wallet indigestion with all these great tools you review. 👍🏻
Awesome video lots of information. And I'm getting it in new year. 👍👍👍
Another fantastic review!!!
That's a great sawr!!
Wow. Very impressive tool. DeWalt never disappoints
You haven't looked at their chainsaw or lawn mower.
Anthony Desisto we have but not reviewed
Great review.
Once again an awesome to review
This is brilliant. I thought FlexVolt was a mistake, as 20VMax was short lived, but DeWalt is quickly starting to dominate team red.
You act like dewalt 20v isnt around anymore lol and yea milwaukee keep trying play catch up now with the flexvolt tools. Flexvolt always offering more power first and milwaukee later down the road like me too
Excellent VIDEO, great job
Thanks Luke
I like how diverse and innovative DeWalt is as far as tools for different trades. The battery technology is making it possible for amazing tools. I wish the flexvolt line was available when I bought into Milwaukee. I’m way too vested to switch. BTW thanks for another great review!!
@@Ernestopinedowill that work on the flex volt tools or just the 20 volt tools
I really don't know in a flexvolt, I have the one for dewalt to ryobi and at this moment I lend it to my brother in law so I haven't tested, but sure you could ask any seller! Just sharing my info!
@@nicklauinger5282 The saw uses Flexvolt batteries. The battery is backwards compatable
Ernesto Pinedo I was referring to buying into the DeWalt Flexvolt line of tools and batteries rather than the Milwaukee Fuel line. I do love ALL The Milwaukee toolsI I own this far. I appreciate your trying to help out though.
@@savage6394 You can look for dewalt to Milwaukee as Milwaukee to dewalt adapters, just research!
Thanks for this video👍🏻
Great video
Amazing tool, im buying one
Thanks for the video
DeWalt is poised to be the only cordless tool company! Works for me!
Good joke
Thanks for the review. Going to pick up one of these up I do believe.
I have absolutely no use for it. But I want it really bad. That’s one bad ass sawr.
You're like me - although I'd find a job to take to use it on!
I'd love to hear about its capabilities when cutting granite blocks.
Yeah This Cordless Saw Is Sweet👍💪🤜
Great, now I have to buy one 😩
Man that's freaking BADA$$ !!!!!
Hello Rob
I am reaching out to you because I am wondering you know or have a solution for the battery cover for the Dewalt 9” cutoff saw does not close with the 15amp battery. I don’t want to spend the money for the new one that does close with the 15amp battery.
Good for working in residential area's too... those petrol cut off saws are noisy as hell.. I expect its more versatile too especially when doing over head cuts. Not a big fan of dewalt but this tool is impressive.
I use mine for finishing my cuts where the soft cut saw won't reach. I also like it to cut my Dimonds around columns
You can look for dewalt to Milwaukee as Milwaukee to dewalt adapters, just research!
Insane
This is the saw to have.. no messing with 2stoke saw for small cuts in the field... No other company has the same power in the 9" cut off saw.. then DeWalt
paul hvizda I plan on putting this up against the Milwaukee
Killer sawr
Not a bad price considering how expensive the 9A.H. batteries are and the fact that it includes 2 blades as well.
Good video as always !!
If you know where to go you can get 9ah 60v for about $100 each. The fast charger can be found for about $40. NO idea on the blades, gonna be generous and say $100 for both. This is $340. Bare tool is about $500. Still think its not a bad price?
@@beeps7 Please post a link on where you can find a 9ah fv battery for a $100. I've never seen it anywhere including eBay.
For a cordless cut off? 500 dollars is a steal
@@justind6039 If everyone started buying them the price would go up. I'll give you a hint, retail add's 20% so avoid Lowes, Home Depot, ect.
@Nick Its literally a motor, a chain and some plastic. $500 is a steal for a bare tool?
I easily have over $2000 in Dewalt tools. I'm heavily invested in their 20/60v platform. But the truth is they rip off the consumer with ridiculous prices. Try using Ridgid, Porter Cable, Makita, you'll see 2nd tier brands are just as solid, yet half the price of Dewalt.
Why is Dewalt so god damn high? Its not just this tool, alot of their line is ridiculously overpriced. Why is a cable cutter $1000?
I'll tell you why its so high, because alot of people are out there like you thinking its a steal and they will charge as much as people are willing to pay.
If you'd pay $1000 for a 2ah battery you can bet thats what they'd set the price at.
I agree @@nickspiveyaka44
I use one these for cutting rebar
Does anyone know if it is possible to use a wood cutting blade with this saw? Would really love to know.
I want this tool
What is the length of the saw?
Giant Milwaukee cut off tool coming soon
I just bought one in UK
I'm trying to find the date code on this saw so I can register it does anyone know where I can find it
U can stall a gas one too
Stealing bikes has never been easier. Thanks for this Dewalt
taylo226 except you WONT want to leave this tool behind
Can this handle concrete trenching, say, in a basement floor for sump installation?
Yes, absolutely but you'll use alot of batteries
Do the 9 inch metal cutting disc from 9 inch grinders fit this flexivolt cutter ?
dont think so
@@ConcordCarpenter ok thanks I hope they make 14 inch cut off saw , like Milwaukee has
Nice
dewalt flexvolt 12 A/H (60volt battery
Is there any roofers using this saw and if so how well does it last
Jonathan Taylor unknown
🇬🇧 roofer. Buy extra batteries with it and you will not be disappointed. Neater cut than a 12inch saw. 3 year warranty, what’s not to like.
It’s perfect for roofing👍Best tool I’ve bought
... finally I took the saw for a ride today, to bad I couldn't record the operation because was on a hospital job .
I cut 50 mm tarmac on the flat roof, and I can tell you is not even close to performance, to much protection, the battery is getting very hot .
Definitely a tool for the show, everybody was impressed about the aspect, except me .
I did the job finally, but I was hoping for a better one.
I used 2 9 Amp battery for 4 linear meters, in a depth of 50 mm.
😊👍
Whats the going rate on a partner saw? Surely its cheaper then $900.
Partner??
@@ConcordCarpenter This tool with a gas engine is called a partner saw.
beeps was opposed to a supplemental- like I called it?
@@ConcordCarpenter I'm not sure i follow you, "supplemental"? This type of tool has always been called a partner saw where I"m from. I didn't mean to offend.
The only thing I'm opposed to is the price, tools just keep getting more expensive. While I'm a Dewalt fan alot of their prices are ridiculous. I seen a video a few hours ago with heated Milwaukee gloves. $180.. i mean seriously.
beeps no offense taken- never heard of that term
... how many meters cut with a 3 amp?
MrDINODINO74 no 3amp
... if is a 60 volts is 2 or 3 or 4 amp , but don't worry about I will test the tool myself, you are to soft anyway, afraid not to upset Dewalt or Milwaukee.
MrDINODINO74 I didn’t test length of cut in any specific materials - I’ll have to check the battery for the amps. Not sure I understand why your calling me soft???
... you are not soft , you are a kind of man I want to by wen I will grow up .
Perhaps the right work is to diplomat ... you are to Diplomat wen came to Dewalt and Milwaukee
MrDINODINO74 we try to be professionals and discuss the good with the bad.
Can you compare it to other cordless saws please?
I'm only aware of the Stihl TSA 230 , are there others?
@@ConcordCarpenter sorry I had in my head that Milwaukee had one. Stihl or DeWalt? We're looking to get one and you seem to give the best reviews 👍
If you compare it to the Milwaukee 9 in grinder... interestingly they both have the same rpm. Not sure about torque...
@@ConcordCarpenter I'm in the market for one now and there are several to choose from. Dewalt, Stihl, Milwaukee, Husqvarna.... It would be interesting to see them all compared. I personally just want to see the Husky and Dewalt head to head, as I'm already set up with batteries and chargers for both those two brands.
Has any one else had problems with these batteries?
You ALWAYS hear things on tool company batteries - I have not heard any horror stories
I have four for my flexvolt slider, two have stopped taking a charge. Not sure if it was me or a defective set, but my standard 20v max batteries seem pretty bulletproof. Spoke with my brother recently and he has a 60v battery down now too, all about a year old. Love the tools though..
True but if I was to pick a platform would go Makita, bullet proof batts n nice tools
nestogonzo1 does Makita have a cordless cutoff saw?
true dat
I feel like if they can make a single battery 9" saw they can make a 14" dual battery saw
Probably... if so you need 4 batteries and 4 bat charger. If you had a 3rd bat and another smaller one... you still have the small bat limitations . Or they could supply the corded adapter just like the 12 in saw.
I have her there is a 14 on they way along with the new 15 amph bat. Could come with 2 bats and one fast charger to keep price down. I have the power station... it could also run the saw with cord adapter in remote locations . It will charge 4 9 amph bats in 4h... but not all the same work needs to be done at once. I pick up power station on Amazon.ca for 400 .
So if at 120v like miter saw with 2 batteries... total amph would still be 15 amph but with 120v power. Some of the 60v setups with one bat out perform corded tools... in terms of speed and power... watts amps and torque.
@The TacomaKid lol. Seems to me. Your in a dentist chair!
The way I think and operate... is a cordless job site.
The fact that the saw can’t cut through a cement slab, basement/ garage makes it somewhat useless for cement
peter nelson I think 3-1/4” deep is pretty aggressive for a cordless saw. Most likely this saw will see the use in masonry hardscape application such as CMU, bluestone, granite and paver installs.
Thief’s dream.. jk
I know right
Talk to much!!! And talk to fast!!!
Sorry brother - I disagree the video is 6-minutes long. I'm trying to cover a lot of information as quick as possibly. Would you rather I NOT include all that info?
I think you're just too slow old man!
