For this evaluation the tests we selected to give a good relative, measurable comparison of run-time and the speed of cutting. We feel these tests will give you a good baseline on overall tool performance. Clearly run-time is hugely important with high demand cordless tools, and productivity is always an important benefit to consider when buying a cut off tool.
9 Inch Cordless Cut Off Saw Comparison Testing
Full Depth 3″ Granite block cutting for runtime evaluation
Rebar cutting for power and speed
Multiple metal and masonry cuts in various materials for ergonomic review
Cutting of concrete blocks and bricks
    Cut Off Testing Materials
Several test simulations were used which are considered typical of tasks where a contractor might use a 9 inch cordless cut off saw for, these simulations included:
    Cutting concrete block [CMU]
Cutting solid concrete block - this block has a very consistent matrix and is made in large precast batches.
    Cutting #5 rebar
Gang cutting 5 pieces of #5 rebar
Full depth cuts in 3″ granite paver slabs
¼” thick steel channel stock cuts
    Cut Off Saw Testing Categories
In addition to the simulations each of the crew members spent time cutting varying materials, to evaluate the cut off saws independently. Our testing simulations and these individual evaluations were used to determine the Best 9 Inch Cut Off Saw in several categories including:
    Size and Weight
    Features
    Performance
    Ergonomics
    Price
Best in Class - derived from the above categories

Yeah... call me though when Husq makes drills, pipe cutters, pvc sheers, impacts, hammer drills, recip saws, vacuums etc that run on the same battery platform as their concrete saw. I’ll wait.
Oh, and call me when dewalt stops Dicking around changing their battery designs with every iteration so you can’t use your old tools with them.
For that reason alone, for any reasonable contractor Milwaukee is the most sensible investment. Who cares which one cuts a tad better. It’s about batteries man...

Very well done review! We use Demo Saws almost daily as a heavy civil contractor. There are alot of times when doing a pipe Tie-in using Ductile Iron Pipe, that space is tight down in a trench, we are always looking for new ways to get something done more efficiently and safely. Typically its a big Stihl gas powered demo saw inside a trench box 10' deep. We are trying a Dewalt and a Milwaukee tomorrow, so Ill get some real life data. I'm a Milwaukee "guy", but I cant argue with your results with the Dewalt! We shall see! Great work!!

For sawing metal-would be interesting to compare these machines to 8" metal cutting circular saws from Skil, and Milwaukee.Instead of abrasive blades the Skil and Milwaukee circular saws use Cermet Carbide tipped blades.Milwaukee has a cordless M18 metal cutter saw. These machines will not cut masonry or stone materials.

Another solid head to head. I really appreciate your in depth look at every aspect of these.
I think I'm going for Milwaukee with the 2 12ah batteries. It pains me to do so given that I've always been a DeWalt fan-boy and their saw seems clearly to be the better model. I had always outfitted myself and my workers with DeWalt, and I still have thousands and thousands of dollars worth of bulletproof DeWalt cordless tools.
But I had a terrible experience with DeWalt customer service regarding one of their 60 volt products, and given that their saw is a flexvolt I'll shy away from it. The same reason I went with Milwaukee for a cordless SDS max a few weeks back.
Boy did I go off topic...
Your reviews are insightful as always Rob.

One of these would be a nice addition to my tool kit but I can’t see a roof tiler or bricklayer swapping out the 2 stroke cutter yet, when you have cuts to make all day and your up a scaffold I just don’t think they would want to keep walking to put batteries on charge. For a carpenter tho, it would be ideal, especially for cutting through internal masonry walls, it’s got to be a selling point not to have exhaust fumes in a customers house and also the smell of petrol in the back of the van

I've tried the Stihl and it definitely showed it's age. The ergonomics were perfect to me. However, the power was lacking. Under a light load you really feel the motor wind down and you can really feel it begin to struggle. Impressive for it's time but I don't think it holds a candle to these more modern saws in terms of power at least.

Nice review. However you made one major oversight. The Husqvarna is not the most efficient saw. It is the least. You are calculating inches per Amp-hour. This is incorrect. It should be inches per Watt-hour because each saw runs at completely different voltages. Using nominal voltages: Milwaukee 18V, 12.0 Ah = 216 total Wh. Dewalt 54V, 4.0 Ah (12.0 is only when running at 18V) = 216 Wh. Husqvarna 36V, 9.4? Ah = 338.4 Wh. Inches cut per Wh would be: Dewalt: 81.8/216 = .38". Milwaukee: 76/216 = .35". Husqvarna: 67.8/ 338.4 = .20"

I'm not sure about Milwaukee, but the Dewalt batteries are known to overheat. Then you have to wait for them to cool down before you can charge them. A heavy user will need 3 batteries for Dewalt vs 2 for Stihl or Husqvarna. For Husqvarna get the Bli300 batteries, regardless of what any salesman says or promo they have. BLi200 is about half the life as the BLi300.

the husqvarna shoulnt even be consider in the same league with how much it lagged behind in cutting time.. 4x cut in one test from dewalt to husq, and they mention the dewalt has the integrated water tube.. to me that seems a disadvantage the plastic will crack/ ruin the saw if it was to have water left in there in winter weather or could clog from bad water quality.. the milwuakee you can replace the hose for about 2$ in 5 minutes

Main point of these tools and this video is switching from gas to battery power,u talked mostly about looks and ergonomics,,,how long can each saw cut per battery charge, size of battery, over heating....is it worth switching from gas to battery...

RCM The point of this video is to highlight the differences between the three tools and to show you that there’s a viable gasless option for small work and interior remodeling

Can you cut wood with the blade? I'm thinking of cutting a hole in a roof through asphalt shingles and plywood.

I should have been more clear. I was thinking of using a cordless saw on a roof during fire operations (it will always start and the oxygen levels won't matter). I realize you can't use a circular saw. obviously @@ConcordCarpenter

What I dont like to see is that the batteries overheated on Milwaukee and dewalt. That's BS. You cant even use your battery up before you have to stop.

    • @answeris4217
      @answeris4217 4 роки тому +1

If you run any cordless tool hard the batteries will overheat. These saws use a ton of power and you can probably easly stall all of them out.
I think with these saws there's a learning curve to get it right.

I don't think voltage matters much. Especially with today's technology. They need to invert the power to 3 phase for brushless motors and with that you can jump the voltage to anything you need.
You need more battery cells to go to 60v. That means more can go bad.
