How NOT to set up the Onkyo TX - NR 676 receiver in great detail.
Lol painful 😅
Hey I appreciate you making a video it really does help I've learned one thing that I didn't do so thank you for that good video
Just replaced by old Marantz SR3053 5.1 AVR (80W, 8 ohms, 20Hz-20Khz, 0.08% THD) with this Onkyo TX-NR676E. Have read the fine prints for the Onkyo AVR amp specs completely before the purchase, being: 165 W/Ch (6 ohms, 1KHz 1% THD 1 Channel Driven); Dynamic Power at 240W (3 ohms Front), 210W (4 ohms Front), 120W (8 ohms Front), THD + Noise 0.08% (20Hz-20KHz Half Power) . . . so no marketing "hype" for amp power ratings. Matches well with my old B&W speakers. Have tested and used its AccuEQ Accoustic calibration with a "little" tweaking on the subs level (toning dwn) and I'm happy. Have tested the Dolby Atmos and DTS:X effect and it was great! Tested all features and quite happy with it. All my media devices and TV now connected via the available HDMI ports reducing my remotes to practically just one . . . so far so gooood!
Even though you said it with such conviction, rear height speakers are zero percent atmos. Atmos is overhead in ceiling speakers or floor/shelf upwards reflecting to ceiling. Has nothing to do with "rear height channels" as you said
Mmmm. Nope. Rear heights need to be downward firing and configured as such in the set up.
Hi, I bought this amp after watching your video. Thanks. I hope you can help with a a query that I have. I used to own another Onkyo NR-727 amp that was 5 years old. The display on the amp used to always show the sound that was selected e.g. "STEREO". The 676 amp shows the selected device e.g. "GAME". I know that if I press the i button ion the remote I can cycle through the sound and video that is being displayed. Is it possible to get the amp to always show the sound that is selected e.g. "DOLBY SURR"? I would be most grateful if you could help.
I have a ps4 and I try to find that same Dolby Atmos app and I do not find it, as you did? Thanks for your help
Been trying to learn if this receiver upscales component through the HDMI? I'm guessing it does since there is no component output. ANother question, does it accept 240p through component?
Great video. Thanks.
Hi, I'm connecting Xiaomi Smart TV 55" to my Onkyo 626, and I cant seem to find the onkyo as a speaker in my TV settings, so on my TV settings, I go to sound, then speakers, I can see only 2 options (TV speakers and S/PDIF), so the sound is coming through my TV or not coming out at all because I didn't connect this s/PDIF. What should I do?
Can you let us know what 4K hardware devices you have? I bought the 757 model, but really only use one 4K port for my PS4 Pro. I'm trying to think what else would need 4K.
How good is the onkyo TX-nr676 and have u upgraded or changed ur AVR
Igot a problem: if connect a 4k hdmi cable from my 4k player to the tv then i have dolby vision. But if i put the same cable from my onkyo receiver to the tv then i have no picture but why! the onkyo supports dolby vision as well as the cable. Please help
I don't get why you had the receiver on tv input for the chameleon video. Isn't arc just for the tv tuner? Wouldn't the game input have given you sound for the playstation?
Does the Onkyo TX-nr676 have 4k upscaling like 1080p to 4k upscaling
Dosent the ARC only support 5.1 audio output though?
Which receiver wall mounts are you using?
I just got this for my home theater that was at my house when I bought it. Sounds amazing
I’m using 4ohm speakers.. is this ok for this unit? What is the true output for this at 4ohms on 7.1??
Thanks
TomColontonio no it’s supposed to be 6 to 16 ohms
I was looking at this model...I think I'll grab this next month. For the mean time I'll be hooking it up to an old 5.1 Panasonic system with wireless surround and maybe add the upfiring Atmos speakers. Later down the road I'll look into upgrading the rest. I feel your frustrations with the internal apps not being able to do both simultaneously, us 16 OLED owners don't even have ATMOS over ARC. We have no choice but to get an AVR. It sucks but I think I can live with Atmos through UHD discs and let the receiver "mimic" Atmos for everything else. From what I've read, these new receivers do a pretty convincing job.
Hey upscaler. I have a 2016 lg oled. The only way I can get atmos is by connecting device to HDMI in on receiver/sound bar and then HDMI arc out to HDMI in on tv right? and I can't do devices hooked up directly to oled and then a single hdmi arc cable passing atmosr? I'm just asking because I'm seeing people upset about 2016 oleds not supporting atmos over arc. just want to make sure I can still get it like the way I described in the first scenario
Hamza Yes you can, all you need is to plug in one preferably high speed 2.2 cable to Arc HDMI in to TV & then to Recevier Arc in return HDMI in .Once you do that then all your other extra empty HDMI ports can be used for your devices .Just keep in mind your TV signal has to be always on HDMI arc input .
my bad! Just realised you hadn't plugged in your subs. you'll have to run the calibration again, but don't hold the Mic this time!! But do what i said with speaker config. good luck, i am sure it will sound sweet when set up properly. 😁 love that lg oled!!
Muy buen video.
mi consulta es , este receiver aun siendo 7.2 no sirve para funcion ATMOS?
ya que no tiene salidas de atmos?.
saludos.
are u actually resting your TV on top of ur center spkr?
Hi There,
I would need your help to set up my Onkyo TX NR 6100 brand new l got it as a gift 4 years ago and never got to use it. Still in the box.
I would need your help to set it up with my Bose Acoustimass 3 Series IV Speakers that have both the input that comes from the amp and the output that goes to the cube speakers at the back of the sub.
I have two sets of the Bose Acoustimass 3 Series IV Speakers and would like to use the front and rear speaker output of the TX NR 6100 like an integrated amp for playing music as well as watching my cinema.
Thank you for your help.
How do I get the setup screen on the tv?
Hey Mr4k. Just watched your vid. I have the old onkyo 818. i noticed on the calibration it set your polk fronts to full band. go into speaker configuration and change this to 50hz at the lowest. if you look at the specs for your speakers and add 10hz as a rule . You will be sending this bass info to your subs which can reproduce these lower frequencies, where your fronts can't. On my onkyo i set them all to 80hz (thx) and my speakers are similar on specs to yours. The onkyo is more than likely going to be around 35-45 watts per channel.
220w @ 6 ohms 1 channel driven is in Onkyo specs.
Where do you get that Dolby channel?
what class amplifier is inside?
as i see in datasheet
No-Sound Power Consumption 60 W (losses?)
Power Consumption 580 W (North American and Taiwanese) (total power consumption?)
so if losses is ~10%
that will give us 90% efficiency which is common for D class amplifiers
The setup mic is supposed to sit at your sitting position. It works best with a tripod with the mic at ear level. I don't have a tripod with mine so I use boxes. Also I'm away from the sound field when I set up so I don't interrupt the calibration
My tv is un65mu8000 Samsung no has any input ARC how I can connect???
Does Dolby atmos only work on 5.1.2 ch, I have TX-NR575 with 4 dolby atmos surround sound speakers with 2 tower speakers, center speaker and 1 sub I go on prime video watching Tom clancy's jack Ryan show in 4k dolby vision on because it show up on the right hand corner but still no dolby atmos on my receiver?? I'm lost a little bit. Lmk if you can help Thanks
Not true. Dolby Atmos will play on any speaker set up with at least 5 speakers as long as the receiver has DOBLY ATMOS built in. You have to "passthrough" the sound to the receiver, and it is best to have a 7.1 or 7.1.2 or 5.1.2 or 7.2.2 etc...
Did you eventually figured it out? Dolby Atmos through HDMI ARC working between the TV an the Onkyo AVR?
MR 4K why did you upgrade again to the TX-NR777? I just ordered the 777 and can't wait to try it. Thanks for your videos.
Hi I have a very similar brand pioneer made by onkyo. If you can look it up pioneer lx301. Iam having a issue I have my ps4 hooked into hdmi 4 but Iam not sure it is 2.2. I have a lg e6p Oled and ps4 says your tv does not support HDR
damn, this thing is a beast. I have the Denon AVR-S920W, but I only have it set up for 5.1 right now. My living room is shaped weird. Can't use all the cool features. Xbone supports Dolby Atmos, right? Is gaming awesome in 7.2?
hello excellent video!!!..could you tell me how to display the menu on the tv screen??? is it for hdmi??? Cheers
Just picked this up 10 min ago. Late day at work but managed before bb closed.
Awesome , Enjoy it Brother
Thank You Rob , i will try it
Westside Tech no still no DV update yet, kinda sucks thou , since all they talked about was Dolby Vision .
Westside Tech I know especially since it has Atmos built in processor inside a TV, however all other devices Roku Premier + XBOX ONE S, 4K players , Nvidia Shield all output Atmos , one cool thing thou, on Roku Premier VUDU will Ouput HDR 10 & Atmos on all my 4K Vudu Films, I also noticed that picture quality is better & More responsive when switching between outputs , plus 210 wats gives more kick on the speakers , Atmos on John Wick 2 was Outstanding .
MR 4K UPSCALER I have a ps4 and I try to find that same Dolby Atmos app and I do not find it, as you did? Thanks for your help
Can it work with a 1080p tv
Yeah, that's what I hit too. I have a Samsung. To my understanding all ARCs have this issue. Same with optical does the same thing. It requires HDMI for what you are asking it to do. Opo4k player?
I have problem with connection. My receiver is 686, but it should be similar to 676, I think. When I play X-Box One(Game Input) from time to time I have my TV turn off screen for couple of seconds and then it come back to normal The same problem is with my digital box (Telus, connected to CBL/Sat) but it's as often as X-Box. If I use just TV I don't have such problem. Do you have any thoughts on that?
Most likely this is not a malfunction, but in one of your devices or in all there is an autoframe rate that switches the image frequencies itself. If you turn it off, then the blinking of the screen will disappear.
Search the forums for everything about autoframe rate and check it out. Of course, this is speculation, but perhaps this is the reason. Let me know when you check.
I have the 676 as well before that I had I believe 565 which was stolen I loved the former reciever bluetooth was very fast unlike the 676 however the 676 is a fine reciever
Sometimes the most educational videos are the ones with the mistakes left in! Trying to set up my new Onkyo receiver and having problems. A dozen other videos didn't show that Dolby can't be passed back through the ARC!
I need to upgrade my faithful 606 ...i don't even want to get rid of it it's so good ...but I'd want a 7.1.4 onkyo ....better get saving lol
Yes you can get the Dolby Atmos to your receiver but you have to change the settings to "PCM" or passthrough.
I bought the NR686 and I can’t get the sound to work. I’ve went through the initial setup and it freezes on using arc. I’ve tried putting it on tv and still no sound.
U need a new one
Hey man. Could you show us your equaliser settings please?
I'm not able to get sound from my LG tv
Only bad comment I've seen is a review on amazon where the guy claims the 676 is doing some kind of video processing that makes the picture worse than his previous 636 (which I also own). Have you noticed any lower quality to your picture when using this?
7 is because there is an hdmi 2.2 on the front. ;)
The reason you couldn't get Atmos pass through from the TV to the receiver is because you need eARC on both devices and as I could see none had it.
Hey guys, just a quick question. I may sound dumb. But can any one tell me the difference between only TX NR 676E and TX NR676? I'm going to buy one tomorrow and would love any ones help here. Thanks
The 676E is European
Great.. check if sound is on mute ??
So I have this receiver and it does not go 20-20khz the only way to get deep bass out of this receiver is to have a sub. Anyone else have this issue I'm planning on contacting Onkyo about this. I'm pretty pissed.
good video mr 4kupscaler just for the dolby atmos try optical maybe it will work...
Dennis Olivares yeahh you probability right
You know you should show it performing on a turntable hooked up to it .
I have the same model onkyo TX-NR676 I have mine running a technics sl-235 record changer style table and I upgraded the cartridge to a shure m97ex cartridge the sound is so lovely its not funny .
I love how u can stream Spotify also . I do it from my pc too
Also I almost forgot My speakers are bose accousitmas 6 and setting it up this way makes them rock
BROTHER, I AM FACING AN ISSUE WHICH NOBODY IS ABLE TO TRACK. PLEASE HELP ME RESOLVING IT. My TV is bravia Sony 4k and av is onkyo tx nr 676 and playing with Apple TV 4k. When I play something hd with no Dolby Atmos or vision, it is fine but when I play something like the Transformers The last Knight, suddenly on the top of my TV appears HDMI/ARC Stereo 3420*2196. It it doesn't disappear. Because of this 25% of the display stay occupied. A lot of People tried but no one could resolve it. I believe you are the only hope. Now I give you some description about connections I did to get Dolby Atmos. I connected ultra premium hi speed belkin hdmi cable between Apple TV and onkyo amplifier. And from amplifier I connected via HDMI ARC ON ONKYO AND HDMI ARC ON TV. But the HDMI ARC cable i used between TV and onkyo is around 4 years old belkin hdmi cable. Is cable the main problem as TV support HDR but Apple TV box is having hard time to set it to HDR.
NEED YOUR REPLY SOON BROTHER.
Regards/Farook
I ran into problem that I didn't think of somehow. My 5.1 Bose set up has only s video for my sub. How can I get around this. Yikes!
nihilityjoey it's Bose lifestyle v20.
nihilityjoey what about a converter cable or something. Thx for the help
Sound will not come through if set to TV. You will only get sound set to cable/satellite using receiver.
I wanted to buy the tx-nr676 model but somebody recommend to me the tx-nr777. Which is better?
I know the 676 is $500 and the 777 is $650 I just need to know the specs and features basically.
DR460N B411 Z Basically Onkyo TX-NR 777 has features of the Onkyo 676 but with 2 main difference: THX Certified Sound, a little more watts under some conditions. Yes. Importantly like 676 it pass thru Dolby Vision, HDR, those other new ones 676 pass thru. If you have great speakers or Reference Speakers it would be a Damn Shame to not have THX Level performance. Remember excellent Subwoofers benefit from THX as well as there is a AVR setting to pass such quality to the subs. Its no light decision to give up THX
DR460N B411 Z _______ RECEIVERS
"Only the very best AVRs can stand up to the rigorous testing inside THX labs.
Our engineers analyze everything from noise levels and distortion to frequency
response and bass management in over 1,000 laboratory tests. THX Certified
AVRs recreate high impact cinema sound and best-in-class audio fidelity."
YOU CAN OUTPUT DOLBY ATMOS BY USING THE OPTICAL CABLE CONNECTED FROM YOUR TV OPTICAL OUT TO THE RECEIVER OPTICAL IN PORT
No you cant
It would have worked with a atmos sound bar though specially with a lg atmos sound bar if u do the sound bar through the hdmi arc with that app it should do it but not receiver I believe cause when I had lg sound bar it would output through app no prob
The Best Buy change the wording on it to make it look like it's 210 watts per Channel
HHHmmm, I just bought the onkyo S7800 from amazon in my country, it was on sale, but I'll have to wait 3-4 weeks to receive it since its comming from amazon US, oh well I know its from last year, but I wanted something with dolby atmos for when I get a X1X (aparently it will support this at some point)
yes sir, that box with receiver and speaker set, glad to know, I read that it has only 3 HDMI-HDCP 2.2 but I will only use PS4 Pro and X1X, so I guess ill be fine
You need the optical from the TV to the AVR
So I went to magnolia in bestbuy to figure out how I'm gonna connect my bose sub to the onkyo 676 and he's trying to convince me to return it and get the pioneer vsxlx102. Which is at the same price. Saying in other words that it's higher class and better. Looking at its features doesn't impress me and it only has like 4 hdmi in ports.
You and I would more than likely be a better salesman
Calm down people. I have the same problem . I have the same tv and receiver. I bought this receiver because I was having the same problem with the arc and stuff on my Yamaha receiver. Damnnnnnnn
you spent a lot of money on the tv.. spend a little more and get it professionally installed. and for future reference go through and make sure everything works before you try to TEACH us a anything.. refer to you tube videos lol
Actually the 210 watch that you speak of is only two two channels you have to read carefully in the fine print go and look for yourself. I have the exact same receiver it's a hundred watts per channel 210 watts per two Channels with 6 ohm speakers I believe going to look for yourself
Direct optical cable from tv (quality one) you do no need any ather channel connection all with a single cable
Mr. bling bling 4k upscaler !!!!!! that's nice bud!!!
Nick J. Thanks Nick lol
Here is something interesting about LG 7 series, Dolby Atmos processing will only work with built in TV speakers with Dolby Vision , however you can not output Dolby Vision & Atmos to a Dolby Vision Compatible Passtrough Reciever??? it seem to me Dolby is having issues with all of these third party brands I wish LG would play nice & let us have both Vision & Atmos pass through from built in apps like VUDU * & Amazon & Dolby App
Hi, i have a lg oled 4k 55” with a pioneer vsx 1131, i played a movie from Netflix Okja with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos... the problem is i can’t get Atmos trough my receiver via Hdmi ARC... Can you help me?
ARC its to low with bandwitch for atmos , think new eARC is ready to go for that
Once again more wrong info... You can't get Atmos working because u can't use Atmos with arc, but can either eArc. God you seriously need to research your stuff before making a video... I keep seeing you fiddle with things and make statements that have nothing to do with what you're doing... You make yourself sound like some sort of authority of sound systems and tvs... But you really have no clue... It's people like you that have others screaming 'fake news!' or 'false info!'
Hahaha. Joke is on us!
Sub woooofer
sub wufur
This has 165 watts per channel i have the same 1. How would u have 210 and 6 hdmi when i have 4 hdmi on the same reciever lol
Cause im a Magician 🎩 🤪
You can cross wire the speakers for more sound ambience lol
How do you cross wire the speakers?
It's only 210 Watts if you only use one speaker otherwise is 100 watts per Channel
Actually, it's 100 wpc if you are using a stereo image. In 5.1 mode it will be less. Perhaps 50 or 60 wpc. Manufacturers tend to mislead consumers when they are purchasing receivers at this price point. It makes it sound like the amp is better than it is. However, this is plenty of power for a livingroom. If you want to see a manufacturer that post real world specs at a midrange price point, then check out Marantz or Harmon Kardon. They post much lower wpc specs, but their specs are honest and RMS specs.
dolby atmos pass-through is not supported by the standard ARC. you need the new e-ARC to pass through DAtmos from your tv to the amp
Right now Dolby Atmos is only supported by internal speakers :V , the only way to get Dolby Atmos is by HDMI bypass , in a near future with HDMI 2.1 you can extract Dolby Atmos by HDMI ARC but your receiver need to have HDMI 2.1 :V , If I remember the HDMI 2.1 it's a software update , I'll hope that.
F.Y.I. if you put the avr on tv you have to put the tv sound out on optical, if you put the tv on hdmi then the avr has to be on hdmi.
I know you were trying to help people I but I suggest you do a little bit more homework before you post a video. You're feeding a lot of people mis-information. 1. You do have 7 HDMI inputs. The seventh one is on the front of your receiver next to the microphone input. 2.Rear surround has nothing to do with Atmos. Upfiring speakers or in-ceiling speakers brings you the atmos effect. 3. I wouldn't talk into the microphone while it's trying to calibrate or have it right in front of your TV. You want to put it where you're going to sit at ear level and make sure there's no noise going on while it's calibrating. Besides that it was a good video.
This video needs some work. You skipped a bunch of steps, and when you tried to go to TV it didn’t work and you edited your video without explaining what happened.
Lost the will to live after 30 seconds.
and place the mic in your listening position and not hold it....and talk
Facts I was cringing so bad when he was holding the microphone, I personally own the same amplifier and it sounds way better then his setup, just because I wasn’t holding the microphone and talking at the same time guy has hits fronts at fullband 🤦🏼♂️
Nowhere near 210 watts per channel. The following specs copied from Onkyo website
Amplifier Section
Power Output
All Channels
100 W/Ch (8 Ohms, 20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.08% THD, 2 Channels Driven, FTC)
210 W/Ch (6 Ohms, 1 kHz, 10% THD, 1 Channel Driven)
Dynamic Power
240 W (3 Ohms, Front)
210 W (4 Ohms, Front)
120 W (8 Ohms, Front)
THD+N (Total Harmonic Distortion + Noise) 0.08% (20 Hz-20 kHz, Half Power)
next time do your homework before you let everybody watch you trying
I was cringing the whole time. This guy's way off on his info.
just my thought :) maybe have some real info and equipment that works :)
Lol yet he has so many videos. One 'has' to be right, right? Nah... UA-cam keeps showing this guys videos to me and everything is always wrong XD
Rotflmao
What a mess!
Don't listen to any of this he is wrong on every point! ONKYO is a great brand and quality, this kid just doesn't know a damn thing about watts or ohms or speaker set-up.
Lol at such bad information. I hope you eventually read the instructions...
Terrible over review, need prep before hand next time, no need to repeat things, make it short and sweet.
ARC sucks anyway.
Complete waste of time.
