I have the Onkyo TX-NR686 and make sure you press the power/standby and BD/DVD buttons on the receiver itself to enable 4K HDR on the HDMI inputs otherwise you’ll only have 1080p HDR!!! I can’t believe Onkyo didn’t specify this on their website or instructions... One of those hidden menu options.. Unless your Onkyo IS already activated, then you shouldn’t have a problem🤗

I’ve owned my new one for about a year and loving it. I’m currently running it bi-amped for the main Bowers and Wilkins Dm 603 s3 floor speakers, B&W 603 center with an old set of full range Yamaha ns-a 635a rears. Old Valodyne ct100 and D.T. pro 800 subwoofers I recently added definitive technologies pro 1000 speakers for Atmos speakers. Movies are ok but lacking in good subwoofer sound. Auto eq set helped but need new quality subs.
I like the video, a little tedious, and I was hoping to learn the surround sound, stereo and computer tie in. I have the receiver in my garage and I want to incorporate it to my computer in my office for sound outside and to a Television I am going to put in garage and covered patios to watch different sports and movies. Haha! I just want everything I guess. I appreciate your videos.
Great video setup! May I ask exactly what you had to plug in to get the setup screen on the T.V. I have the ARC from my smart TV to Onkyo HDMI OUT ARC. No picture on the HDMI 1 on my TV. Is there anything else needed to see the setup screen?

From what I've read, this model has Zone 2 RCA Line Out, which can repeat whatever is playing in Main Zone or send to Zone 2 any other sources except for HDMI Inputs.
I have the tx-nr 797 too. I finally figure out how to get the imax function to work. Wow what a difference compared to Atmos. More powerful sound and very clear with finer detail. The remote control is way better then the 787 too.

I paid $499 when it came out and $84 for a 4 year bring it into the store warranty. Yeah $999 is way too much. I need to get my hands on the 797 to see what's different.
I had Denon for like the last 10 years great Receiver. I just switched to A Onkyo TX-NR575 & I love it! Great video sir nice review!

Should be just hdmi out to tv.
You need to upgrade that center channel immediately.
Where do you connect the subwoofer??

It a source selector for a device, just plug your CD player into the RCA audio inputs for CD on the back.

Monoprice 133831 Premium 5.1.2-Ch. Immersive Home Theater System for speakers and the 686 would be my choice. For $530 it's a good setup.
I found a 686 for 299 on Amazon for just the av receiver

You need Dolby Atmos enabled speakers. I use Onkyo branded ones that sit on top of my towers. They don't look the best but get the job done.
I wouldn't go the sound bar route unless you are space restricted. Vizio makes a good one for $500 but it's software is odd.

LOL you should have purchased the TX-NR696 if you only had 5 speakers. Cheaper and offers the same options, it's the more tailored one for your setup.
Now I have some atmos speakers. When I got the 787 it was to kind of future proof me. Thanks for watching.
