actually from an appliance tech of 35 years, the cycle starts in a pump out cycle to pump out liquids that have dripped out of cups or off of dishes when it was loaded.. the dishwasher never drains all of the water out due to the positioning of the drain hose.. it must be higher than the top of pump motor and have a loop in it or an air gap to prevent siphoning, and drainback. some pumps have check valves to prevent drainback but it never pumps all of the water out.

Glad you both have a sense of humour. In all seriousness, your kid probably has a bunch of years of dishwasher pictures left in him, so maybe just keep him drawing, and keep the scratch hidden! I have that same dishwasher... the problem was very similar to what happened to mine quite a few yrs ago. ‘Someone’ had dropped a wooden spatula in thru the bottom rack and the lower agitator spin arm had smacked it and splintered the wood. She who shall remain blameless realized it and fished it out (and ‘some’ of the wooden pieces) without sharing that info. A few days later, I open the D/W and see that there’s still a load of water in the bottom, FIND a few pieces of wood around the pre-filter and Shop-Vac all the water out, and like MrsWes, think it’s fixed! A few weeks later, same problem... appliance repair neighbour gets called this time, says, there’s a ‘floaty thing of wood or plastic’ stuck in your float ball which is tricking the machine into thinking it’s empty when it isn’t! Pulled out the last of the splintered wooden spatula, TaDaaa, problem solved. I had the same ‘extra’ question for the neighbour about the water that was left I the bottom once it drained properly. He stated that it NEEDED to be there as it was used to keep the pump impeller and pump shaft from drying out and leaking all over the kitchen floor! He also said, if the D/W isn’t being used regularly, throw a cup or two of water in the bottom every couple of weeks...! Glad it’s fixed, Chinesium tools are (almost) as good as having no tools!!!

My parents had one too. Mom finally got her kitchen remodeled and got her built in. She changed the kitchen once more. After they sold the house and went to senior living, the new owner changed it again and put the house up for sale. Flippity flip.

I knew the second you said it leaves water in the sump that there was something stuck in the discharge check valve. I’ve chased that problem before. Feels good to fix it without needing parts!

Your dishwasher problem motivated me to look at our dishwasher which wasn't working very well. After a suitable amount of appropriate language but no bloodshed it is now back together and appears to be working as it should. A significant amount of stuff got removed from the filters so time will tell.and the process will serve as my wife's valentine.

When my wife and I first married, 1964, Coppertone was the big color. We saved and bought coppertone appliances one at a time. About the time we had all of them coppertone gave way to harvest gold and light green. I was talking to an appliance salesman and he explained he had sold them for years. He said colors come and go. White is never the latest style but it is never out of style. From that point forward we have bought only white appliances.
