But, but, but... motor oil retards the rust! (Keyword being 'retard'!)
Love watching you battle the rustbuckets and prevail (mostly)! Can't wait to see the video where your son figures out how to get the acetylene torch going and decides to 'help' dad fix a brand new customer vehicle! :D
Seriously - thanks for a great channel that doesn't take itself too seriously. Entertaining and I accidentally learn a little here & there.

Y Zhang, Boy that's the truth, " MORE PEOPLE LIKE WES & THE GOV. WE NEED LESS ".
Your a good man. 🙏👍
I'll never understand people going in winter whitout snow tires. Especially on cars or trucks with low profile and wide tires ! Suicidal.
They think that if the car goes, it's ok. They don't realize that breaking is even more important !
@@marcryvon I think most people believes “if I have an AWD/4WD SUV/truck, I’m in the safest vehicle in winter”.
“Save it for some snow tires” wise words
The problem with people who own 4x4, 4WD or AWD cars is that many of them think their cars are invinceable on slippery roads
But the reality is that you can have 4wd, 6wd or even 8wheeldrive for all i care but if you do not have the proper winter tires on the vehicle to give you traction your car is still a danger/nuissance on the road.
@@jfv65 The other problem is they think that because they have AWD or 4WD they can turn and stop like it was summer. Ever notice you see more of those in the ditch than 2WD cars?
@@jfv65
No that's actually not entirely true. Some of us know how to drive those things and have done it fir many of years. The guy in the video didn't even have good tires let alone that person had show rims and tires on it so all in all the truck is pretty much useless as a 4WD vehicle!
@jfv65, my dad always said to me when I bought my first car ae95 toyota corolla that it will accelerate like 4wd but it will stop like fwd no matter what tires u have...
Even with stability control they still manage to flip them I guess stupidly finds a way
The best thing about Wes is his honesty…and his work ethic.
Yep, not afraid to admit it when he makes a mistake, that is a sign of a well balanced man.
Dear Mark H.
👍👌👏 That's already two of the best thing. But there are even more, definitely!

Funny, I feel it’s the only way we guarantee our survival as a species…otherwise I fear we’re doomed; treating each other as kin is a good way to be burned by unscrupulous people sometimes but it evens itself out.
One of the best parts of small town USA is helping people without wanting something in return.
It's normal human solidarity, something many city dwellers lost in road rage and heavy traffic. He has a cool tractor and happened to be around. I've been on both sides of this kind of situation, you just can't leave someone stuck in a ditch in that kind of weather.
@@Dr_V Agreed. I live in the Bronx,NYC and this is exactly what I do. I help out when I can and a thank you is more than enough. It should always be like that but unfortunately it is not.
@@Dr_V I came across a truck at an intersection once in heavy traffic that had run out of gas at the red light. I pulled up in front of him and asked if I could tow him up the hill to the next side road. He was very happy to get out of that stressful situation.
I live in Europe and winters can be vicious around here. My advice for anyone driving larger cars like a pick-up-truck or an SUV is to keep a detailed DIY emergency kit in the trunk, it's useful both when you wanna help someone else and if get stuck yourself. Besides the usual car accessories like jumper cables, compressor, hydraulic jack, jerrycan, etc. I always carry a shovel, towing cable, hand tools set (wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers), couple pieces of strong wooden board for unditching, plus a well garnished med-kit, a fresh water bottle and a few chocolate bars. You can scale this down to fit into smaller cars as well.
I have no idea why watching Wes work is so darned entertaining. There's no comedy routine, no drama, and I'll probably never work on an old plow truck in my life. Yet, there's something about the way he presents himself in these videos that just oozes calmness, intelligence, and class.
Heh. I try.
There's comedy, he has some GREAT ONE LINERS. But yes everything else is also true.
Well there was the toilet scene

Back in the 1970's, in St. Paul, Minnesota, the newspaper would print a status report from the snowplow shop every week. In depth. One week after a deep snowfall, the report included: "All trucks had to slip their clutches to plow the deep snow. 24 trucks came in for new clutches this week." Geepers.

Your local highway department needs to invest in a steam gene and a high school kid to pressure wash the trucks when they come back from plowing. It adds years to the life of equipment.
Heh. Some do that, others don't. These guys don't.
Most places spray the entire truck down with some kind of oil film crap, I gotta tell you, that shit doesn't work, no matter how much the old schoolers try to say it does. It just traps dirt and water up against the paint and the types of salt they use is so corrosive it just doesn't matter what you spray onto the frame. I agree, pressure washer with heated water and giving a kid a job is a way better option.
Thats far too much work for a government employee to do
After every storm I power wash my truck/plow with a steam/heated power washer. It helps but Russsstttt (Pisser voice) still finds ways to keep eating away at the truck.
They don't care, how do you think they get new equipment. Go to a state used equipment auction, they will destroy equipment and write it off to get new.
Im a simple guy I see when Wes works I click like. :)

From the point of view of a sunny day in Australia, 28 celsius, watching Wes work is good - in snow makes me feel smug. That truck is stuffed even, I can see that, and it never snows here! Good video.
Nice effect with the jump cut between doing each bolt

That was a fairly straight forward ordeal for a northern plow truck repair as it pertains to removing rusty hardware. I enjoyed the bonus footage even more. I've been in that situation before. As you can imagine it doesn't snow very often in Dallas, and as such we don't have snow tires for our vehicles. So during a freak snow storm, on new years day, I was coming home from work in my 97 camaro, and despite going slow, being as gentile on the throttle as I could, etc. I managed to park her handy to the bar ditch JUST off of the side of the pavement. Thankfully no damage but also thankfully I was able to get some assistance from local police who happened to be driving by. I was working 3-midnight at the time so the roads were otherwise deserted. So I got a grin out of you helping this fellow out. Hopefully he'll be able to find a second-hand replacement front fascia for that Suburban. Thankfully black is a pretty easy color to find.
Pulling him out at night would have been much worse. I'm glad it was daylight.
You're a good man Charlie Brown!
I read that in my late Grandfather's voice. As his dementia progressed he couldn't think of names so he just called everyone "Charlie Brown". "How's school going Charlie Brown?" "Good!" *five minutes later* "How's school going Charlie Brown?" "Pretty good!" "Well fiddle dee dee, fiddle dee dee". Another common phrase was "Huh, and then again huh." Miss all my grandparents like crazy.
You'll never have employees working for you because everyone will insist "I want Wes to work on it".
Doing the right thing on the little stuff when nobody is watching has consequences.
Loved Oliver to the rescue, Wes. Good job on the Binder, too.
Bleeding on the work ensures long-term success for the repair.

Oh do I remember the winter carnage growing up in the North. Nothing like getting the tractor out and pulling someone out of the ditch. Fun times. Thanks for the great video.
You got that right!
It always amazes me how many people drive in slick conditions with improper tires. Nice rescue with the Oliver!
in Canada (or at least in Alberta where I were) they're very fond of "all weather tires", but luckily they're usually made so they're pretty decent in winter as long as there's some tread left, and since plowing the streets is a foreign concept - despite 6 months of winter and snow - the tires don't make much difference since all the roads are a skating rink from December to March
Hi Wes , perfect timing , just got a hot cup of coffee

Me three!!! What are you guys drinking for java??? I'm a Colombian fan myself. Wes, thank you for another great video! You could make a whole series of vidjas with that pile Lmao. Good call on getting rid if that worm gear clamp for a proper T-bolt. Not like it's any kind of 'boost monster' but regardless, worm clamps don't belong on charge pipes. Would be awfully crappy to have a comeback over something that obvious. It must not make much boost to begin with if it was already on there. Nice job on being a 'good human' and yanking that guys truck out of the ditch for nothing. Glad to see there are still good people out there that don't mind helping others out. That right there is good karma. As always, hope you and your family stay safe! 👍😎

Small world, I'm from Albany. Where in the city are you?? Its definitely a cool place to visit but I don't think I would like to live there. So many people confined in small spaces for a high price. The rent is astronomical no matter where you're at from what I've seen. I helped a buddy of mine move into a place on Ave R in Brooklyn awhile back. It was a nice apartment but the rent would have you looking for an organ or two to sell. Lol. The landlord was an old lady that had the onset of Alzheimers and Dementia, and she forgot who he was the day we were moving his stuff in. Pretty sad because when I was younger I lost my grandmother to Alzheimers and it's an awful disease. I'm surprised a taxi driver helped you because they are generally pretty busy, especially down there. As a whole most people just live by the "Not my problem" state of mind. You need to put yourself in others' position and ask yourself if you would appreciate the help if you were in that situation. Someone could be having a rough time in their life, and a small act of kindness can restore their feelings and mentality on their current state of affairs. I have been near homeless, sleeping in my work truck, down to a few dollars in my pocket, etc before. I 'picked myself up' and bounced back from it by hard work, and determination to be a better person. I had a few people to talk to or throw me a meal or a couple bucks along the way and it helps. Now that I am in a better position, I haven't forgotten about those who helped me even in the smallest way. If they need something from me and I can help I am right there. You never know even when helping a stranger can open a door for you. They may be a CEO of a big company, your next girlfriend or wife, or your newest best friend. I am also as helpful as I can be because I do onto others as I would want them to do for me.... My father taught me how to be respectful, god rest his soul, and I try to keep those values and life lessons in the forefront living my life.
You just jinxed yourself about the not breaking a bolt. Good deeds come back 10 fold. Thanks for the video!

Hose-
Heater Core-
Water Pump-
Thermostat-
Head Gasket-
Based on my experience I'd say oil pan, king pins, brake chambers, and everything electrical.
@@WatchWesWork "Cascade Failure" refers to interconnected systems,
usually a pressurized fluid. Fix the radiator, pressure moves to weakest link. Steering, cooling, braking, even electrical will search out path of least resistance, and move until secure.

You don't cut the hose. Some guys heat a flat head screw driver and burn the clamp off. You can easily tell when the flat head is all the way through. I have a specific tool designed to release these clamps along the same concept as the flat head. Worm clamps are banned at our company for good reason and we maintain 2.4 million units.

This video reminded me of when I was a mechanic in the Army. My company had 61 bulk fuel tractor trailers. Stuart Stevenson's cab over trucks were not built for the desert heat. The fan clutches went bad left and right. What was initially a 4 hour replacement job, we knocked down to a little over an hour, we replaced so many.
Nice! I worked with a guy who was a mechanic in the Marine Corps. He told me a similar story about engine swaps. Following the manual it was a 2 day job for 2 guys. They figured out they could remove a panel from the back of the cab and pull the engine out the back and 1 guy could do the job in 6 hours. I forget what model it was.
