This is actually one of the few high quality Jacarandá Bonsai I could find on the internet. And I live where they are native from, I have a few here, gonna do some experiments, I'm planning to fuse a bunch into a Kabudachi.
Thank you! It’s really hard to shape and form the jacaranda to a bonsai, but I’m happy it’s doing well. But this time , its summer hot hear and it not in a great shape. It’s always looks good during spring and early summer. That’s a great idea. Good luck with your experiment!
@@lakeelsinorebonsai1203 There is a Master here in Brazil called "Ladoso" (Bonsai Shizen Channel) he has one of the best Flamboyant Bonsai out there (Delonix Regia), and he teached on his channel to make a 1mm ring on the branch in order to ramify without the risk of loosing the branch, since they aren't easy to ramify. But I don't know if that aplies to Jacarandas (didn't get there yet xD).
Thanks! That’s a good recommendation, it’s really hard to ramify. And I just lost one important branch. The smaller one to the left which I’m trying to grow bigger and just died. So another plan to think about.

It has flowers before I turned it to bonsai. But because of constant pruning and shaping, it does not reach the right length of the branch to do flowers

Hello Peter, yes, I think you did! I have another smaller one and I did the same thing and now it has a lot of branches growing. I know it’s a deciduous tree, but I am not sure how cold it can handle. But I’m not sure it can handle snow, so better put it in a safe place during that time. Our weather here in my part of LA goes down to 28 deg F during feb to March and it has no problem.

As lovely as that is I read somewhere that these trees are meant to have a natural growth like an umbrella. but yours does not portray that shape. Does Bonsai intend to utilise change or familiarity to a particular tree ie everything in miniature form including its fruit OR a mini tree with regular fruit? I am just mesmorised how beautiful Bonsai are, I have no garden to speak of but have a large Deck - would Bonsai be ok in this open environment?
Hello, eventually this tree will be having the shape. For now, I am still building the shape of the primary and secondary branches. Wiring and pruning. And this video is 2 years old so it has change a bit. As soon as the branches have shaped, it will be easy to make it like umbrella shape. It will take many more years before I can finalize the design. For now, I am happy it’s very healthy. Yes, as long as it’s open environment bonsai will thrive.
Question: I started the Jacaranda Tree from a seed, It is growing straight up, now at a height of almost 3 feet. When do I cut it down to size? Trunk is thin, size of pencil thin. If I cut it down, will it kill the plant? Yours is beautiful and full. Mine is around 3 years old. Thanks for any advise. My first Bonsai plant.
Hello Margaret, I think it’s too early to cut the trunk. I would say grow it a little bit more. Don’t you want a fatter trunk size? Yeah I think it will kill the tree if you cut it early. A few more years before you shape it as a bonsai. But, you can wire the trunk with a larger size wire to shape the trunk. That what I did with my other seedlings and they have motions now. It seems that some trees will never be maintenance free...no matter how old they get as bonsai...they will keep on producing same size leaves. I have been growing this for couple of years...I recently cut down all of the branches without leaves...it's been one week and no new greens are showing yet. I hope it's not a dead wood? Should I have left some leaves on?

Hello Steve, I haven’t tried it but I think you can . Jacaranda is a very easy care tree and easy to grow, so most trees can be air layered. I think it is very possible. It depends on where you are, if you’re in my area in California, or any warmer coast, June is still good time to do it. Because the roots shoot be a little stable enough for the winter. Hi Nathan, I don’t think so. My water here is so acidic and the Jacaranda is doing great! For safety, don’t use pure kanuma just add some other soil to your mix if you can. But as far as the Jacaranda, I believe it’s a strong tree and can handle it. Thanks for the watch! 👍👍😀
ANAND R , Yes, they can live in cold and hot weather. In my area the weather goes from 0 degree Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius and jacaranda survives well.

Patrick Smith , the last time I saw it with flowers was when it was still 8ft high. Ever since I made it a bonsai, because of constant pruning and wiring, it didn’t have the chance to bloom. Maybe if I let it grow, it will, but the small branches in the middle will not grow because of lack of sunlight. So I have to prune to construct ramification. Maybe when it’s in shape and less pruning it will bloom. I will have an update video of this very soon. From early spring without foliage and it gradually have all the leaves. Thank you Patrick. 👍👍

andreas thanks you! When I got this tree it was tall and all the are growing upwards about ten feet tall. Then I cut it to 12 inches tall. And buds came out and let them grow. And when they are a little thicker I wired them sideward to look like a tree, but I thought it wasn’t that good looking. I am still trying to grow more branches but it keeps growing at the top, so they are really hardheaded, hahaha! 👍 thanks for watching!😁😁

Beautiful bonsai ! I have a 12 ft tall jacaranda tree. However, lower 12 inch does not have any leaf . first leaf starts from 4 ft. My understanding is , tree needs leaf to grow. Can I still cut it to 12 inch and start for bonsai?

Bonsai trees are normal trees, bonsai is an art where the trees are trained to look like an old tree. But it will take years or even decades to train one. That’s why there’s a technique that you find or collect from the wild a good material for bonsai that you can develop. That is called “yamadori “ (Japanese term that means collected from the wild or forest) and there are trees that are best suitable for it.

Yeah, I think it’s a good idea. But I suggest you do more research on it about cold. I didn’t really fo that yet because of my weather

Hello, yes I cut the trunk without leaves and it survived. But make sure you do it early spring or growing season.

How long do you keep the guide wires on your tree to hold the branches down?
A year will do it, but whenever I remove it, it kinda tend to go up again, so I just let it stay there.

Because we’re making it a bonsai and we are pruning it all the time. Once you stop pruning then there will be flowers again

It normally flowers in end of spring almost summer. But I think you can’t trim or pruning in a year

I have a jacaranda that I started from seed but seems too tall. Is there a way to shorten the trunk?
If the tree is young, let it grow. Do not cut it yet. This way the trunk will grow fatter.

If you will chop the trunk it’s better you wait next early spring or late winter to have a greater chance to be successful

andreas thanks you! When I got this tree it was tall and all the are growing upwards about ten feet tall. Then I cut it to 12 inches tall. And buds came out and let them grow. And when they are a little thicker I wired them sideward to look like a tree, but I thought it wasn’t that good looking. I am still trying to grow more branches but it keeps growing at the top, so they are really hardheaded, hahaha! 👍 thanks for watching!😁😁

Beautiful bonsai ! I have a 12 ft tall jacaranda tree. However, lower 12 inch does not have any leaf . first leaf starts from 4 ft. My understanding is , tree needs leaf to grow. Can I still cut it to 12 inch and start for bonsai?
@@anupamarana5665 if you are not sure if it will survive, you can cut it to the first leave above the 12inch.

Bonsai trees are normal trees, bonsai is an art where the trees are trained to look like an old tree. But it will take years or even decades to train one. That’s why there’s a technique that you find or collect from the wild a good material for bonsai that you can develop. That is called “yamadori “ (Japanese term that means collected from the wild or forest) and there are trees that are best suitable for it.
