Here in Guyana, I know of an 80 series Land Cruiser owned by the Guyana Forestry Commission that has been running tough jungle roads every day for 25+ years. It has its original motor and doesn't even have a radiator fan and yet it still works. Absolutely beastly machines
I work at an auction yard and we get all sorts of land cruisers come through with crazy low miles. One came in yesterday, hzj79 ute with 67000km on the clock
80s are held in high regard in Australia you can tell by the resale prices I find it odd that a manual petrol barn doord 80 is such a novelty That would be known locally as a poverty pack bar the flash rear air con I have a 94, 80 series gxl turbo diesel with 760k on the clock honestly i went into a dealership looking at new 4wds and walked out thinking i how good i actually have it in my 80
11:50 TLC80 Last solid front axle - Incorrect. TLC 105 had front/rear Solid axle, last one with both solid axles. TLC 100/200/300 series- IFS front axle
That Land cruiser 80 series was locally released here in the Philippines (LHD) in 1996-97 as a manual diesel only engine (1hdt). I think it has more grunt than the 1fz carb type engine. It has the same rear barn yard doors & dual a/c system. The only difference is that the front passenger seat here is a bench type seat & the 3rd row seats are also bench type with the passengers facing each other. It also has factory electronic locking diffs for the front & rear diffs as a standard & not an option from the factory. There are some few preserved surviving ones here but most probably the owners wouldn’t sell it.
@@doggothedog7744 If Larry Chen is intrested in looking for one, it would be better fod him to look here in the Philippines because in my opinion PH version of the 80 series is better than the South Akerican Version. Hope you're going to spend some time when you come to Australia checking out our 4x4 culture. I'm sure you'll be excited to see the Japanese stuff we got down here.
Hey Larry. I've got one in Australia. Purchased brand new in 1995. It is a limited edition blue marlin number 425 out of 500 with only 43,000 km on the clock sitting in a garage and when you open the door it still smells like a brand new car.
This is not a 1991 FZJ80 as stated by the owner , unless it is heavily modified and not original ! The front grille with the Toyota logo , and this dash style , started January 1995 .The 16" wheels , wider wheel arches and mud flaps , started August 1992 , together with the bigger brakes . Anyway , a beautiful 80 .
It wasn’t until college that I realized my parents drove what I would desire in my garage today. My mom drove a 1988 190E 2.3 while my dad drove a 1993 FJ80 in Medium Red Pearl which I learned to drive in. Wish I used my college loan to keep that Land Cruiser
105 series was the last true solid axle. essentially its a 100 series shell on a 80 series chasis. same driveline, engine and brakes as the 80. just thought id correct you there larry. come to Australia and you will see them everywhere
that landcruiser is the most beautiful model from all the versions build in the the 90s. key cool things: barn doors, spare tire in the back , Manual transmission! and the 4.5 liter engine and this one was manufactured in Japan
You mention this is the last of the solid front axle trucks. But considering you are looking at a non US model 80. Consider also the non US model 105. It was a solid front axle truck. Even had an option for rear doors just like this. Option for 1FZ or 1HZ. Definitely a truck worth looking at if you like this one.
FZJ80 5MT, triple locked with factory winch, dual ACs, refrigerator console and dual fuel tanks are everywhere in the middle east. Also the UZJ100 V8 with a 5mt double locked and all the same goodies are also everywhere in the middle east. You can even find GRJ200 LCs with a 5MT and double locked in the middle east. Toyota killed the manual Land Cruiser with the 300.
Wow ... amaze with the condition and very well maintenance. For me and other TLC enthusiast, TLC 80 series still the last capable and functional SUV of Toyota. Its combined strong ladder frame and solid axle powered by diesel engine and manual transmission are the best and must have item on TLC.
The same model with beige color was my first LC 80 series I had ever jumped in for drive in 1998. A car belong to my boss. Mix feeling because I grew with my father company car FJ40 short chassis red color. 2 decade later in 2019, I bought 1999 LC100 series with leaking radiator and cooling water in oil however still managed to drive it for 5000km without any issue. Learning to solving the problem led me understand what needs to fix after buying 2nd car 100series. Now drive 100 dan 200 series. This car is baddas and robust
I am from Colombia and I loved this this video! so cool! I get excited when I see these Land Cruisers or the FJ40s here in the US and some of them even with the Colombian plates!
These have really become a cult classic here in the UK, but they are in such rough shape compared to this. Similarly manuals are equally as rare regardless of the motor being petrol or diesel. If I was to be in a position to get a 90s SUV it would only ever be the series 80 Land Cruiser! Also I never realised in these others places they etched the plate on the exterior, my E36 has all original etched glass but Europe didn’t do any other parts!
I have a 96 80s series with a dealer installed trd supercharger and it is just a monster the original motor is going on 300k miles and still morks perfect
Yesterday I saw one just like this in Ecuador for sale (36k USD) with 37k miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Absolutely stunning, I know it would worth a lot in the US
Colombian land cruisers are crazy nice.. my uncle had one in the 90s it was stolen supposedly taken by either narcs or guerrilla. They call it la burbuja bc they have a bubble looking design.
Everytime I see these cars on the street, especially in good condition, I always turn my head. I always consider the 80s series here in my country is forgotten gem since many of them were left on the side of the street or were sold for cheapsake.
Larry, if you ever need someone in Aus to source/inspect/send you cruiser parts (assuming you dont have someone already), I'd be more than happy to help you out. I live in central queensland Aus, which is pretty central when it comes to cruiser parts
8:09 not true, in GCC we use to have the extended range fuel tank with either chassis mount spare tire or dual spare tires (door mounted and chassis mounted at the same time)
The 80 and 70 series were over engineered so it's an investment for today. Having this car is like you depend your life on it whenever you are on or off road. Hence why I have a HDJ80 with. It's my ship that I can depend on.
Hey buddy nice video!!! But there are some mistakes when he is telling you about the year of the car, that dash is from 1995-1997, also the grill, they must have changed that because its a carb engine not the fuel injection, also when you were talking about the rear ac, it only blows cold air from a different evaporator and blower located in that corner, its a separate unit from the front one, you can have the front one on or the rear one on independently. Im telling you because I own a 1994 HZJ80 with dual ac.
The part where Larry mentions that the rear mounted spare has a purpose to make room for sub fuel tank is not true. 80-series without rear mounted spare also had sub fuel tank.
exactly this got me confused at first, because where i live (Indonesia), the top trim (VX-R and VX-Limited) had dual tanks while retains the liftgate😅 the barn doors (dual doors) is kinda rare here because it must have been an aussie spec brought by third party importers as Toyota Indonesia never officially sold a J80 with barn doors
I suppose this unit is locally-built by Sofasa (Colombian CKD assembler for Toyota and others)? Any differences and options that are unique to Colombia vs Japan-built cars?
Currently shopping for a car in nicaragua where i live 3 month out of the year. I have a hilux 3.0 manual for the company car and am looking for a good condtion 80 as my personal. They are hard to find in good condition, if my search fails i am buying a raptor
What an odd collections of parts. Its a 91 but has a 93+ dash and the 16 inch wheels with I assume is the FF axles and discs. It's a 1FZ motor, but it's the 1FZ-F, not FE (its carb). Rear AC, Factory tire swing, sub tank, barn doors. Wacky.
I love the 80 Series, too.^^ Quite my favorite on nearly the same level like the LC 200 V8 Diesel of the 00's, that's like a road castle.😃😁🥰 But it's possible to get hands on a LC 80 in a condition like that.
