Whilst there are a lot of rubbish films that have been made in the UK, the UK film industry is thriving. We have: - Pinewood - Shepperton Studios - Elstree Studios - BBC Films - Aardman Animations - Studio Canal UK Maybe it would be good to look at some of the good ones made here?
Is it bad I only knew that Pinewood and Elstree Studios was home to the original British versions of The Weakest Link and Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? ...Oh, don't forget. They also filmed Big Brother there at Elstree. (Back in the Channel 4 (Except for the first two series, that was filmed in Bow, London.) and Channel 5 days.) Aardman is still producing 5-star Michelin dish type of animation though, it's like everything they made or touch, turns to gold.
that's why we have the movies from Disney, warner bros,Universal studios,20th century fox, lions gate, columbia, parmount and ect also release on uk cinemas
Did this guy seriously say Britain doesn't make any good films? Are we forgetting: All Aardman films, The Cornetto Trilogy, Trainspotting, the King's Speech, Local Hero, Monty Python, Kes, 28 Days Later, Chariots of Fire, Dracula (Christopher Lee). Umm... the James Bond films? Notes on Blindness (more of an indie movie that I highly recommend) And, it's technically a tv show but had film length episodes: Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot with the excellent David Suchet. Also, I think Derry Girls massively helped redeem Ireland in the tv comedy front.
Harry Potter too with shout outs too Shallow Grave, The Full Monty. This guys just an arrogant yank?.. what about all the shite to come out of Hollywood more shite than good especially these days.
im gonna be real with you mark if you do this again, you gotta do the harry hill movie. i was one of like 2 people who watched it in the cinema and its defined my entire life.
Surprised you didn't mention Dick and Dom acting in the Horrid Henry movie. They were and are iconic in the UK, especially in that late 2000s / early 2010s era of Cbbc gross out Too Cool For School media, which their whole career kinda encapsulates (Noel Fielding too, tho he's less relevant to that particular genre I just really love him)
If you're looking for a not-Inbetweeners series with James Buckley that's really good, i recommend White Gold. Shame it had a short run because it's brilliant
Probably the same way America has both Groundhog Day a film that caused people of all different faith's find meaning in, and The Freshman a shitty movie with no jokes made because of Marlon Brando wanted to be in it, and he was The Godfather.
Its more common than you think. Ballykissangel was a british-made Irish series, but it isn't a comedy. I think the only Irish-made successful comedy is Pat Shortt's Kilnaskully, which is unironiclly great in its own right
I remember watching the Horrid Henry movie many times; both on (the now defunct) CITV & even Netflix. It was always a very stupidly fun watch as someone familiar with the TV show & books. Some parts are definitely 'cringe' to look back on but I believe the final song in the credits is still unironically good
When I was 7 and living in Hong Kong in the 90s, I received a book called Stories for 7 Year Olds (or something like that). As the title indicates, it was an anthology. Specifically, an anthology of British children's stories. One of them was a Horrid Henry story about a camping trip. His family and brother are excited about the fresh air, tent, and sleeping bags while Horrid Henry hates everything. He wants cabins with power and indoor plumbing instead. I felt very seen as someone whose relationship with the outdoors was/is best described as "ambivalent." I moved back to the US about a year later and didn't hear of Horrid Henry again for over a decade. I had no idea he had such cultural cachet.
as much as i hate defending mrs brown boys even slightly, i dont think the joke is "man dressed as woman haha", i think its meant as more of a pantomine dame rather than haha crossdressing.
As someone who is unfortunately British, I cannot praise this incredible video enough for documenting some of the war crimes me and many others are subjected to. thank you for bringing these horrific crimes against humanity to light and condemning them as an atrocity. Bravo Mark. Bravo.
Poor Mark knew his positive review of Submarine would piss off the cynical hunger of hate-watchers so he had to suffer through a bad movies comp just to satisfy the masses 😢😢😢😢
When it comes to mrs browns boys, it's not really treated like a show in Ireland, it's more like an expression of irish pride and qualities, i like to think people see mrs brown as their own mam/gran, which is just emphasised with all the 4th wall breaks, also an episode releases every Christmas and new year so people put it on when they're together with their family. It's just a show that encourages appreciating the people around you and your local community. But it'll never top father ted though 😂
British comedy is my favourite thing ever… But ONLY when it’s done right. These films don’t do it right. They’re just annoying To all Americans who want good British comedy movies, watch the Cornetto trilogy
I actually remember Horrid Henry as a kid, despite being from Texas. The reason I ever got to see the show was because my step brother found it on Netflix, and he absolutely loved it, probably because he saw himself in Henry were both very similar people. My parents would eventually end up banning it from the house, because he was a little demon at that age, I mean the kid tried strangling my brother because he didn’t get a longer turn on a game than him. Anyways, my parents blamed the show on his behavior.
Weirdly enough but I know about horrid Henry i would watch a lot of uk nicktoons on UA-cam I as an American wondering what shows other countries that we didn’t have! Uk Cartoon Network had fat dog Mendoza Angela anaconda and a few others I would like to check out! (Also horrid Henry aired on this network called CITV which as this weird bootleg invader zim show?)
How interesting that your from Northern Ireland. I know all about the difference between Ireland and northern Ireland. My aunt lives in Dublin and she told me all about the history of both parts. She used to live in the states and was born where I live in Wisconsin.
The 2010's was a terrible decade for British movies, mostly just nostalgia-bait crap based off existing property's, or just something that was popular at the time. Who tf ever asked for a Pudsy The Dog movie?!
Was any other British kid confused why Horrid Henrys School had no school uniform. I can suspend my disbelief so far but no Uniform at School, What is this Lord of the Rings?
I think the reason they left the actor flubs in Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie is so that at least SOMEONE would be laughing while the film is on. Even if they are on the wrong side of the screen.

And we can't forget Miss Battleaxe bringing up and explaining *cosmic microwave background* in a primary school. It's just so out of pocket and specific. I love it
I fucking love horrid henry
I remember watching the live action Horrid Henry movie and thinking it was weird as heck.
This type of movies aré blantly cash-grabs
Felt like a fever dream tbh the books and tv show are much better
Same
It was peak ngl
I Like how casually Mark glosses over the fact that He couldn't find Fat Slags anywhere
He could find the comedian's Guide to survival, but Not Fat Slags
As a Brit myself, I can confirm all of theses movies are absolute class and makes me want to have some beans on toast with the mates
As a British person Shaun of the dead is the best British movie by far
Whilst there are a lot of rubbish films that have been made in the UK, the UK film industry is thriving. We have:
- Pinewood
- Shepperton Studios
- Elstree Studios
- BBC Films
- Aardman Animations
- Studio Canal UK
Maybe it would be good to look at some of the good ones made here?
Is it bad I only knew that Pinewood and Elstree Studios was home to the original British versions of The Weakest Link and Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?
...Oh, don't forget. They also filmed Big Brother there at Elstree. (Back in the Channel 4 (Except for the first two series, that was filmed in Bow, London.) and Channel 5 days.)
Aardman is still producing 5-star Michelin dish type of animation though, it's like everything they made or touch, turns to gold.
Pate uk
@madnessboysgames3478 family fortunes apparently feud was considered a violent word same as ninja
that's why we have the movies from Disney, warner bros,Universal studios,20th century fox, lions gate, columbia, parmount and ect also release on uk cinemas
There's also going to be a Sunset Studios in the UK which apparently is gonna be freaking massive. Bigger than Pinewood.
Did this guy seriously say Britain doesn't make any good films?
Are we forgetting:
All Aardman films, The Cornetto Trilogy, Trainspotting, the King's Speech, Local Hero, Monty Python, Kes, 28 Days Later, Chariots of Fire, Dracula (Christopher Lee). Umm... the James Bond films?
Notes on Blindness (more of an indie movie that I highly recommend)
And, it's technically a tv show but had film length episodes: Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot with the excellent David Suchet.
Also, I think Derry Girls massively helped redeem Ireland in the tv comedy front.
Don’t forget The Italian Jon not that shitty American remake and the Hammer movies
Harry Potter too with shout outs too Shallow Grave, The Full Monty.
This guys just an arrogant yank?.. what about all the shite to come out of Hollywood more shite than good especially these days.
im gonna be real with you mark
if you do this again, you gotta do the harry hill movie. i was one of like 2 people who watched it in the cinema and its defined my entire life.
There was a Harry Hill movie?
@@deafweasel99 Yes, and it was beautiful.
As someone who is a neighbour to the UK (Republic of Ireland) I loved the Horrid Bababooey movie as a kid
As a someone who is from UK, same I loved it
As a person who isn’t British and has no idea what Mark is talking about, I’m offended
Exactly like me
Surprised you didn't mention Dick and Dom acting in the Horrid Henry movie. They were and are iconic in the UK, especially in that late 2000s / early 2010s era of Cbbc gross out Too Cool For School media, which their whole career kinda encapsulates
(Noel Fielding too, tho he's less relevant to that particular genre I just really love him)
I loved da bungalow. It was basically like nickelodeon game shows but more crude
Diddy TV was a masterpeice
Dick and Dom are my shit
If you're looking for a not-Inbetweeners series with James Buckley that's really good, i recommend White Gold. Shame it had a short run because it's brilliant
Such an underrated show
I'm aware there was an attempt of an American version, but the jokes fell flat
I remember the Horrid Henry Movie being so good 😭😭
Nah, Horrid Henry the movie is genuinely GOATED, I fucking love it.
How did British-made Irish comedy regress from the legendary Father Ted to Mrs. Brown's Boys...?
Father Ted is amazing, it showcases Irish humour perfectly. Mrs Browns boys is just a bit too silly for me!
I think the only Irish-made successful comedy is Pat Shortt's Kilnaskully, which is unironiclly great in its own right
At least we got Derry Girls
I'm American and I liked Horrid Henry as a kid. Although, I'd say the cartoon was more like a British Johnny Test rather than DoaWK
But more grounded

•The Fairly Oddparents British guy
That's a shame, HK is an amazing country for outdoor pursuits.
These movies really make you feel like you have crooked teeth and drink tea.
Yeah it’s like watching Friends it makes me feel fat stupid and desperate for doughnuts
I'm shocked you left out "Keith Lemon: The Film." That's an undisputed classic!
Ah Keith Lemon… the man who supposedly ruined Craig David’s life with one sketch on Bo Selecta.
I remember watching horrid Henry as a kid and enjoyed watching it, sad to see as you grow up you see it at a different angle.

i like going through old british movies but im very disappointed you didnt review the absolute masterpiece that is the harry hill movie 😔
i thought the 95 dollars was a joke but holy fuck it isnt
The company definitely went broke after that.
@@micjimster4845 I did a quick calculation and they made back a total of 0.004% of the movies budget
Horrid Henry The Movie feels like it was intended to be made for television, and you can clearly tell by looking at the quality of the sets.
if theres one thing the UK isn't known for, it's movies
LOTR...
Harry Potter...
Calling Mrs. Brown British actually hurts me deep inside
as much as i hate defending mrs brown boys even slightly, i dont think the joke is "man dressed as woman haha", i think its meant as more of a pantomine dame rather than haha crossdressing.
As someone who is unfortunately British, I cannot praise this incredible video enough for documenting some of the war crimes me and many others are subjected to. thank you for bringing these horrific crimes against humanity to light and condemning them as an atrocity.

Why do you end every sentence like your asking a question? Lol you talk legit like no one else on the planet
Oh my god, it's real
The last movie made 95 USD at the box office
I'm laughing so hard rn
British comedy is my favourite thing ever…
But ONLY when it’s done right. These films don’t do it right. They’re just annoying
To all Americans who want good British comedy movies, watch the Cornetto trilogy
i fucking love Mrs browns boys
I actually remember Horrid Henry as a kid, despite being from Texas. The reason I ever got to see the show was because my step brother found it on Netflix, and he absolutely loved it, probably because he saw himself in Henry were both very similar people. My parents would eventually end up banning it from the house, because he was a little demon at that age, I mean the kid tried strangling my brother because he didn’t get a longer turn on a game than him. Anyways, my parents blamed the show on his behavior.
Weirdly enough but I know about horrid Henry i would watch a lot of uk nicktoons on UA-cam
I as an American wondering what shows other countries that we didn’t have!
Uk Cartoon Network had fat dog Mendoza Angela anaconda and a few others I would like to check out!
(Also horrid Henry aired on this network called CITV which as this weird bootleg invader zim show?)
I am unashamed, unrepentant, uncaring, massive fan of Mrs Browns Boys.
I will die on this hill that i love, and will always love, Mrs Brown 😂
How interesting that your from Northern Ireland. I know all about the difference between Ireland and northern Ireland. My aunt lives in Dublin and she told me all about the history of both parts. She used to live in the states and was born where I live in Wisconsin.
I love seeing Horrid Henry appreciation, I love Horrid Henry, and the movie is really good.
Mark doing a scouse(?) Accent is hilarious
How are people still mispronouncing Worcestershire?
Who cares
The 2010's was a terrible decade for British movies, mostly just nostalgia-bait crap based off existing property's, or just something that was popular at the time. Who tf ever asked for a Pudsy The Dog movie?!
Britain also gave us the god tier "Lord of the Rings". And Amazing world of gumball. (Yes, gumball is ACTUALLY a British show. Crazy I know)

If I had to guess it's because the authour was originally born in the US where school uniforms aren't really a requirement.
I think the reason they left the actor flubs in Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie is so that at least SOMEONE would be laughing while the film is on. Even if they are on the wrong side of the screen.
