I thought I’d try my hand at it. I had to stay with the groove it was made to have. It just felt right. Hope you enjoy. #drumming #drumlessons #drumteacher
This song I've always loved as a drummer. It's not about power, It's all about finesse. Which as expected of the Godmother of drumming you display in spades. Hopefully, as I continue to rehab, I will be able to regain some of that finesse. I always found songs that require a high degree of finesse or tympanic melody to be the most challenging and satisfying to play. I found a lot of songs that require speed and power to be mentally exhausting and the rare occasion you need to mix finesse with power, speed, and wide-ranging tympanic melody to be exhilarating. For those wondering, yes, timpani and tympanic melody are two different things however that is kinda the purpose of timpani and those beautiful tuning pedals. Most fun I ever had was figuring out how to tune timpani on the fly when the orchestral percussionist couldn't and sight reading a piece he could never master right after he called me a musically illiterate dummer😅. Then went on to play this song and a 5 song jazz set followed by two metal songs sitting in as a fill in drummer for a friend holding auditions to fill a couple of vocalist positions. I couldn't do that now on my best day. Now I'm just happy when I get my left hand rudiments right on the 3rd try 😂. Doc said I'd get 60 to 70 percent of average usage back in my left hand I'd say I'm closer to 80 percent of my usage I can start to write with it again and I'm relearning rudimentary drumming so....Dorothea you keep on keeping on and I'll keep being inspired by and learning from you ❤
BTW the spelling of tympanic was taught to me by a rudimentary percussion teacher I had back in the 80s when I was trying to learn to clean up my basics. If somebody knows a more correct or current definition please let me know I've been so focused on rehab I'm having to relearn how to read music at this point😅. I know sad but I really let my skills slip while just trying to get this hand to do what I tell it to😂
Kit sounds fabulous, especially that snare. Outstanding all round. I loved when you switched to the ride with the quarter note triplets. It's definitely a goal of mine to gradually bring that in, but for right now I do as you did earlier on and just play a shuffle.
Hi. I’m not in a band now but have played in lots of bands over the years. I’ve only done e a couple studio things with some local musicians. So nothing big.
It sounds like that but it was still triplets with the right hand and inserting a backbeat on my left hand. Just keep the right hand all steady accents. RlR lRl RlR etc. 😊
Wonderful drum cover to one of the most distinct and wonderful songs of the 80's. That song defines the 80's
Dorthea is a total badazz. Respect ✊🏻
