in 1985 I left home at age 17 and this song played non stop on my 3000 mile drive to the west coast. 'Welcome to your life, there's no turning back' this song gives me the same feeling it did back then
Yeah,how did it go
+DeviousIntellect He died.

Answer the fucking question! How did your trip go?!

One of the greatest lines ever written.
Yep, one line, says it all.
DJL0455….Especially in today’s climate, eh Mate!
Well said and one of the best young every made!
I am at a point when I have hit rock bottom… this line pushes me on. I really need to hear this
It's 2023, almost 38 years ago this song made it to the top charts, anybody still listening and lived it like me?😎🤟😎
Tengo 42 años y todavía cuando la escucho siento lo mismo que hace 38años años que la escuché por primera vez 😢
I love how their voices basically haven’t changed, they sound so beautiful
Sorry, that’s 50% of their incredible voice 30 years ago 🤷♂️
@@aventis maybe so, but i am still impressed 30 years laters, they still do the song in the same key (and not lowering like most others) and it sounds pretty good! :)

I _never_ tire of this song.
Barry Walker ikr. I’ve been listening to it 10 times a day for the past month and I’m still not bored of it. Can’t beat this song.
I've had it in my head recently and play it at least once a day. Love this song

medibee Amen to that!
F%cking classic....this is the first song i think of when someone mentions 80’s bands and music....a timeless classic thats probably more relevant today than it was in 85’
Word. This song makes me so nostalgic every time I listen to it, but I also enjoy it a lot. And seeing them nail it after so many years is just amazing. The 80s have the best music!
amen
I can never get tired of this piece of music.
It’s forever young. Though I’m no longer.
Perfect reminder of the good days! 👍🏾
Join the club.
I hear *that*!!

Your spirit is forever young!
One of the most perfectly written, produced, mixed and mastered tracks ever. It’s just a masterpiece!
This AND Head Over Heals ... 😀
Yes and yes.
I couldn't agree more!! 💜💜
Nobody can ever say the 80's didn't rock.
Nobody
never ever 80' rock
NO ONE AT ALL.
The 60s rocked into the early 70s. Then "disco made its way in the late 70s. But once 1981 came around the disco was over and Rock reclaimed its throne. Rightfully!
Put today's music to shame
Props to the drummer! If you're not one, you may not realize how awkward and unorthodox it is to play this groove....
True story... And he plays it so faithful to the original recording, it's amazing.
Great musicianship all around this band.
Yes that syncopated hihat is slick!
Dude nailed it solid too. Hard to stay in the zone with the syncopated kicks
Yeah the kicks fuck it all up. At first I was thinking, nawww it's not that hard to do the hi hat and boom tap at the same, but then I heard the double boom squeezed in there, and then I understood. Squeezing that in while keeping the straight beat of everything else is actually difficult indeed.
Linn Drum ♥️
This song will never ever get old. A timeless feel good melody that will never be forgotten.
This has got to be one of the top 10 most perfectly balanced tunes in music history and the musicianship is impeccable
Musicianship I find simple but I love the melody because it’s so simple yet so effective and became a classic
Curt and Roland sound absolutely stunning for their age. Long live Tears for Fears.
Ils sont de plus en plus beaux 😆😯
Slightly lowered key, but they sound great.
Where did all the time go? Where old and still jamming
They sound much better than any of the new music out there. BTW this is live, no studio so expect some fluctuations in their voices and instrument sounds.
Cleaning voices.. Without tune
this live version is more studio than the studio version 😯😯😯
It does sound good live. Not many bands can do that.
My thoughts exactly. I was like "Wait a minute....", then I kept on listening. Excellent performance!
spoke my mind!
Si... igual está procesada y masterizada a full
perfect guitar and synth tones. perfect playin too
It’s quite incredible how good they still sound 30yrs later. Vocally and instrumentally phenomenal. I’ve watched this so many times. Drummer killed that groove. Snare sounds awesome.
I love how this song was played every 5:30 in the morning in cartoon network it gives me the vibes of my elementary days before going to school
The drummer is playing the beat perfectly, very difficult, and what a great beat!
Difficult for a begginer lmao
yes it is tricky...
the drum was linn drum lm1 originally
@Kyle Webber It's the feel that's very difficult. I have heard this covered a million times and it never feels right.

One of the best written songs ever!
Indeed. A runaway classic which will enrapture generations to come.
No doubt
Bollocks! It's good but one of the best? No. The amount of posts on here that are over exaggerated defies belief.
The Republic of Sardonica and Cynica. It really is because it’s beautiful and written with a whole world outside perspective. It’s genius.
Yes me to.
Nov 11, 2023. I'm playing this beautiful song to my mom while she's laying down in her hospital bed. She's about to leave this world in a few Moments... She loved this song so much... I wanted to tell her some goodbye words ... But i could not find a better way to express how much I Will always love her and miss her than by playing such a beautiful melody to her.... Thanks so much Tears for Fears...
How good is that? I'm a 1958 baby and Northern Soul lover, but know class when I hear it. Newly married when this came out, bought the album for my wife, we were on holiday in Crete when it came out, still reminds me of those times. Magic
Wow Spotify, you nailed the audio quality.
+Hope Hurteau True say, that's generally true for all streaming service. But you can tell the raw file would be sick...so Spotify did their part well.

Everything will be okay..... Okay? I guess you don't recall worn out cassette mix tapes in a cheap boombox? :)

Nice audio, mediocre camera work though
This is the song that encapsulates the 80's...

I'm 45 years old now, but from the first time i heard this song to these days, it always give me the goosebumps. It's just one of those songs, you know?
I cannot think of a single modern-day artist (?) who will be able to replicate their performance 30 years from now. I'm so glad that this was "my era" of music, with lyrics that actually said something and meant something instead of the blah blah blah junk today.
WTF!! I put headphones on and this sounded like it was the actual recording! Considering this is a '35+ yr. old' band....this was utterly amazing! Everyone nailed the authentic studio recorded soundtrack and that's not an easy feat. Recreating the guitar fills/parts alone is especially not easy. Look at some of the UA-cam attempts at this song and I rest my case. That last guitar lead at the end......what type of scale is that!?! Never heard anything like it. Difficult to replicate - but, it was on the recording. As a gigging musician I am totally impressed and blown-away by this surprising, out of the blue, performance!
Hear here! Ditto, paso! I too am puzzling my little musician mind over this recording.
Amazing
Age is a state of mind...
This is the best band ever. I listen to everything. They had 5 huge hits off the songs from the big chair album. Just blown away.
Neil Taylor wrote that iconic solo - unmistakeable style . (Also on Broken) , I find Rolands first rhythm solo is harder to play to get the rhythm right . Both are perfect
“Welcome to your life. There’s no turning back”
One of the greatest lines ever written.
Wow Spotify, you nailed the audio quality.
One of the most sadly true lines every written 🤣
I remember when I was in the Navy stationed in Virginia then suddenly received orders to the West coast (as we called it)…well, they gave me 10 days to get there. Wasn’t interested in flying because that would have left me without my car, so I did the next best thing…ROADTRIP!!! And I played all kinds of tunes in my vast collection, namely TEAR FOR FEARS. it was an awesome journey laden full of memories I’ll never forget!
I do that from nc, every December, never get tired. I grew up in Cali.
This song can be dissected until the end of time. Bottom line…it’s truly perfect. The guitar solos, the unique drums(like Rosanna), vocals, lyrics, and beautiful keyboard work. The perfect storm. My 7yr old grandson keeps playing the opening guitar riff on a tiny keyboard he has. He is INFATUATED with a song from my youth. I love it all!!
I miss the 80’s so much. Music and the films were just hitting all the right spots.
The music, the movies, the fashion, the 80's was my decade!

But our parents miss the 60's! 😀
I think we miss our youth most!

@@everready2903 I was a teenager in the 60's. The 70's spawned some INCREDIBLE music but I have to admit everything seemed to come together perfectly in the 80's...if I could go back and relive any time period it would most definitely be the 80's.

That guitar solo is so different and perfect. Literally perfectly fits the song.
The drummer hit the pocket from the get go and stayed for the whole trip..... so good.

80s was even worse than this era.
The music and voice perfectly same as of 1985 version..respect to all of them
There is a *slight* difference in pitch on the original recording, which is pitched slightly sharp of concert pitch (presumably someone sped up the tape a bit), but apart from that, yes, it is indeed a very good rendition, and the fact that they haven’t had to down-tune after all these years like some bands have had to due to deepening singing voices makes this even more of a delight.
My thoughts exactly after just listening to the 1985 performance.
I'd be honored if some fans of 80s power ballads would check out my acoustic piano & vocal covers of AGAINST ALL ODDS by Phil Collins, JACK & DIANE by John Cougar, and SISTER CHRISTIAN by Night Ranger on my channel in tribute to the masters. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital enhancements. Thanks and keep on rocking.
As much as i dislike autotune, it was very subtle and soft. either way, they are amazing. respect.
Absolutely one of the all time best songs, singing, and instrument playing - all in one. You guys are incredibly talented. Thank you.
Some songs come out and on first listening you just know that it will hold up over time. This was a perfect example of a song that your children's children will be listening to in their pod on their way to Mars.
The intro starts and we all traveled back 30 years ago

Whoever was the sound engineer for this did awesome work!
Have to agree, it's beautifully done.
agreed, its incredible
The sound mix engineer and the musicians deserve incredible recognition for this. The sound is recording studio, post processed quality.... But it was live. Wow.
One of the best live performance ever made, sounds like the original studio version
They aged exceptionally well. They still kill it live :)
Robert Baratheon They're still rock it and awesome after 3 decades

1985, just graduated college, it was dark outside and it had snowed.
Went running, getting ready for officer training and flight school.
Had this song playing on the Walkman. It was beautiful.
Best song to fly low-level to in a Air Force jet.
Damn I was lucky.
Thanks TFF!
The Walkman was a beautiful thing during that time. 😊
In 1985 this was my FAVORITE song to run to when I was in the Navy. It's also the BEST song to play on take off when traveling by commercial airplane. I wore that tape out in my Walkman! Listening to this thirty five years later and it's STILL my FAVORITE SONG!!!

Drummer perfect.... all perfect...
I will admit to struggling with the this on drums... The hi-hat is 'interesting'...
I can't get it either. I've watched videos and the teachers all play it differently.
Interesting. Is that a a 'shaker' that is creating the '3' against '4'? I will admit, that attempting to play what I call the 'shuffle' beat on the kick drum and then play '3' with that is something that I cannot do -- at least for the moment :)
Even with the original recording, I thought a rather 'masterful' job was done with the hi-hat. Though, I did question just how much of this 'sound' and rhythm was one person
I guess this is the 'independence' that many teachers talk about getting.
I am not surprised that 'even' teachers play this differently among themselves. Just goes to show that we all bring something 'different' to this thing called rhythm.
yea its a shaker on loop
Absolutely, and that is a tough song to play...
Nothing quite like this, played loudly through nice speakers. SO good.
Timeless and yet firmly in the 80's... it's just a really, really good song and this performance is excellent.
This song is by far one of my favorites of all time. The crazy thing is, that it doesn't sound any different than it did in 1986.
Mine too....And they might sound even better !!!!!!
It's still good I love being an 80's baby
It's from Spring of 1985 not '86.

I wish I was in 85 again
I didn't speak English when I was little but some how this song was always in my head for the last three decades. Now I know why, it's just a fantastic song.
Magnificent!! Imagine being able to be so confident in your ability ( humble in the process) and please yourself, that is Tears for Fears. LOVE!!!
Roland never even had to look at his guitar..TOTAL PERFECTION
This is one of the most iconic songs from the 80s - a decade replete with iconic songs. Many songs from the 80s were memorable, not only because they had a great melody, excellent instrumental work, and demonstrated fabulous vocal power, but because they conveyed a substantive message about the world. Many mainstream songs from the 80s concentrated on societal ills. What happened to mainstream music today? It seems as if almost no mainstream artist gives voice to the various problems plaguing this world. If you want to hear music other than that which engages in self-absorption, sex, fame or romance - if you want to hear about things that matter far more, like poverty, corruption, war, and inequality - nowadays you have to search for obscure alternative music. I long for the days when artist like Sting, Phil Collins, Don Henley, Tears For Fears, etc had something to say.

I miss the 80's. Hearing this brought tears to my eyes. The world will never be the same.
@Noxy Gabela it wasn't the same when we were young in the 80's for the ones before us.
FACT: A new computer program recently showed both these guys are the number 1 singers in the world to sing at the same quality now as to their original recordings. The program overlays their current music over the original and comes out with a percentage of degrading, a bit like a vehicle dyno that measures the current power to that when was new. These guys dropped just 3% which was NEVER heard of (or 1% each 10 years) so... they re did the test and was correct. So good that as a comparison, the master copy ON tapes looses 2.7% every 10 years due to natural degradation!!
Next closely followed by Def Leppard who was only 6.6% or 2.2 each 10 years...compared to Meatloaf that had lost 84% quality with 30 years...
Well done guys...the quoting that you sound exactly AS GOOD now as ever before is a fact that cannot be disputed!
Keep up the great music! 👍👍👍
Do you have the link? That's so cool
im too drunk to check so I hope this is accurate. If so, thanks 1000x for this info

What about Vince Neil?
Nah, their voices have definitely changed. Not saying they're worse, but definitely sound different. One singer I can think of that sounds exactly the same is Robert Smith of The Cure. Or Rivers Cuomo from Weezer.

This song NEVER gets old. And although it's my #1 anthem of the '80s, it's sound is timeless. One of the greatest songs ever recorded.
As the years forge ahead, I am so incredibly sad that we can never ever go back for a replay. This song continues to stay with me - and touch my heart throughout, from its opening riff. I'm from Roland and Kurt's generation. We are the post Baby Boomers. In 1985, my girlfriend turned me on to this whole album. She said to me, "Listen to this... it's beautiful." I married her a year later. And we're still together.

Good music when alone or with a group, so lucky we've grown up listening with their music... These songs spoke the language of our soul and our generation.👍✌️🇵🇭
Every decade had it's great music. I was in Jr. High when the 60's British Invasion hit. The 70's cam with great music of it own. Funk, Jazz, and my favorite Steely Dan. The 80's hold a special place in my memories. I was a musician playing full time on the road. Memories of friends made and a love lost...and a love found.
@@Baz97__ I'm gonna have to disagree. And I'm not a fan of today's music. I'm a "take me back to the 70's-80's" guy , having just turned 47. But my wife at 49 years old can still find new music she loves and occasionally she'll send me a song I would have otherwise never heard , like Read My Mind by The Killers or Home by Edward Sharpe (probably got that one wrong and will have to edit). What I'm saying is , she can still find new music to send me and I fall in love with her all over again.
