  • Lyrics for Queen, MY MELANCHOLY BLUES.
    Another party is over
    And I'm left cold sober
Baby left me for somebody new
I don't wanna talk about it
    Want to forget about it
Wanna be intoxicated with that special brew
    So come and get me
    Let me
    Get in that sinking feeling
That says my heart is on an all time low, so
    Don't expect me
    To behave perfectly
    And wear that sunny smile
My guess is I'm in for a cloudy and overcast
    Don't try and stop me
'Cause I'm heading for that stormy weather soon
    I'm causing a mild sensation
    With this new occupation
    I'm permanently glued
To this extraordinary mood, so now move over
    And let me take over
    With my melancholy blues
    I'm causing a mild sensation
    With this new occupation
    I'm in the news
I'm just getting used to my new exposure
    Come into my enclosure
    And meet my melancholy blues

Allan Riach - absolutely right. I’ve played classical piano since I was 7. I used to do it by the book throughout 3 hours daily training. It’s amazing how Freddie moves his fingers and positions his hands in the worst and wrong way and yet he delivers true emotion and becomes part of the instrument. Mozart also played in the wrong way even upside down. Well, they both are geniuses, I’m not 😊

    • @flyingcloud6776
      @flyingcloud6776 3 роки тому +8

yes he also didn't like to be tied to the piano so much time of the live show, he wanted more acting out and strutting up and down... So they hired Spike Edney as additional live keyboarder in the 80's. He is still playing keys with Brian & Roger these days, as far as I know.

What you noticed as "someone fiddling in the dark" might be their so-called "The Doll House" a kind of space in the corner of the stage hidden by black courtains which they used to "hide" during the show so they could freshen up or change clothes. Maybe Brian did use it as a break while Freddie played the piano here..I heard someone who knew Freddie from college days described his piano playing as unique, Mozart-like..Maybe the studio version would give you more clarity, softnes and range of beautiful Freddie's vocals.

Fred it was so diverse I love music from every genre nothing he does really surprises me. I don’t think rent those out there who think he always just plays chords on the piano but in fact it was really a good pianist. Like another person wrote it was not a concert pianist are very capable and unique pianist. The thing is when he tried another genre from rock city really capture that weather and was millionaire waltz or melon Carly blues you could hear the walls you can feel the blues. Just a great great talent.

Freddie said in a number of interviews that he composed his songs from the piano, so it makes sense that you associate him with a piano. And this is just my .02, but people often say that Freddie didn't think much of his piano skills, but I've never heard Freddie say that ... but he did say he felt more restricted on stage behind the piano, which given his performance energy, makes way more sense.

Love it!! It's so Liza Minnelli I would not have been able to tell when I was in elementary school in the 70s but by the 1980s I could have definitely been able to tell Freddie Mercury was singing this and recognizably so by the sound of his freaking Class A Plus voice and piano playing. I probably wouldn't have recognized it until I was about 17-18 so that's 1985 or so. that was when I was getting ready to start my senior year and I know in high school I would have been able to tell that with him and the same with Elton John.
I think you did a reaction to Queens free concert in Hyde Park either 1974 or 1975 and Freddy played the piano and sang To "You Take My Breath Away".. goodness gracious, that was extraordinary and out of this world!! 💞💞💞 I like the live version better than the studio version. The live version is a beautiful ballad and the studio version differs only in the beginning where there's this big harmonic start and it makes the song sound really sad and it sets the tone for the rest of the song which is otherwise beautiful. That's why I prefer the live version better even though Queens harmonies are great. It was just not good for the song.. it's their music but just my opinion and I think it would have sounded better without the harmonies because Harmony sounded so sad.
Mike Moran & Freddy worked well together and. TOO WELL because they were both perfectionists! they were in the studio one day and Freddy looked over at Mike Moran and told him that he's the only person that was more of a perfectionist than him! 😂😂😂 true!
if by chance you have NOT heard that concert song from " Take My Breath Away " live in Hyde Park 1975, you should really listen to it but I think you did it a while back. if you have it's been awhile but gosh it's freaking beautiful song. the song at lifepark was a soft piano but a perfect vocal sound and I've never heard anybody sing better than that in my life 52 years!!

Freddies piano playing is so unorthodox, not typical for a piano player but then Freddie was not a typical musical genius.

    • @montrelouisebohon-harris7023
      @montrelouisebohon-harris7023 3 роки тому +3

you're exactly right and he learned how to play by ear and he could listen to something on the radio and go play it on the piano when he was only about nine or 10 years old. he did that at his aunt's house in India when he was at boarding school when he went to visit her and she told his parents they needed to get him piano lessons because he was spectacular but he needed to learn how to read music. Freddie was an extraordinary piano player and one of the best but he didn't play the way you're supposed to with your wrists up in the air,and he always kept his wrists down. it supposed to be like that for compose your posture and also to help prevent carpal tunnel syndrome but whatever a person is more comfortable with is what they should do

Another of my favorite reactions, Hap. I love when Freddie plays the piano. He did that a lot more in the early days, so that era is my favorite. As for John's instrumental skills, in this tune John is using a Fender Precision Fretless bass guitar that he used on stage for this tune as well as 39. This instrument sounds similar to a double bass which Freddie wanted for this tune. Interesting! John is brilliant! I think he could learn to play anything. He learned to play piano for You're My Best Friend, for example.

Freddie thought he was an 'adequate' piano player which, for a perfectionist like Freddie, was just not good enough. He knew he was a great vocalist and songwriter. He also knew he was great at controlling a crowd. If it wasn't perfect then he felt himself to be lacking. Brian and Roger loved his piano playing and Brian mentioned how unique Freddie's hand position was while playing...wrists down and fingers up. I never noticed that until Brian commented on it in an interview. Also, as an aside, Brian mentioned that when Freddie played the guitar (rarely) he only strummed down and never up. Just thought you might enjoy the trivia and watching for it. Thanks for the reaction. I'm going to be requesting a reaction soon even though I'm can't afford Patreon.
