Ohh wow I like this a lot...Queen is so relatable to life--the lyrics-it is just crazy. Loved this. Thank you❤️🎶👑

Motown immediately popped into my head with the chorus, classic Motown chords. Feels very much like a Deacy and Freddie production. I would not be surprised if this was another one at which Roger and Brian thumbed their noses. Personally, I love the Motown feel but the lyrics are a bit weird to me. I also miss the classic Motown drum kit that the drum machine just does not capture. But, it's Queen and I smile anytime I hear Queen so... Thanks, HAP!

Ok, for me this is a weird mix of melodies I have heard before, somehow, somewhere.....but I can't locate it.
But every great artist has weak moments. Makes them human.

I wouldn't say it's my favourite Queen song, but I like this kind of music so I'm fine with it.

I have to be real with myself... I could listen to Freddie singing total gibberish, or Freddie singing drunk, or messing notes..and I would still be in owe..😁 Because he's just irreplacable.
This is definitely not the quality level expected by Queen but it's still a part of their career. I had heard it long time ago but forgot about it. 🤷 So this was a reminder that even the Greatest can't create masterpieces all the time.
Your suggestion of Freddie and George Michael working together is a gem! 👍

Haha, yes, that's Queen too. I love your facial expressions right from the start 😅. Of course with Queen always expect the unexpected like this song with Freddie's head voice throughout, as in "Cool Cat", also mentioned in the book. It's certainly not their best and can't compete with "One Vision", "Princes of the Universe" or "Who Wants to Live Forever" from the same album. But as you mentioned, they could do anything at this stage of their career. The majority of this album is inspired by the movie Highlander, but aside from that they are still experimental and looking to balance what the album offers.
You still haven't heard it all, but that doesn't mean the remaining are all high hitters 😅😉. Thanks for this awesome reaction ☺️🙋🏻‍♀️.

I like this song, and found playing this back to back with Man on the Prowl from The works album, shows 2 different styles of music and vocal styles with Freddie perfectly performing both. This shows he could sing any style of song and how great his vocal range really was. One in a million.

“Pain Is So Close to Pleasure” began as a riff idea by Brian. John and Freddie subsequently turned that into a “Motown style song”, with John playing rhythm guitar. A slightly remixed and reworked version was released as a single in 1986, reaching #26 on the Dutch charts. The title also appears as a line in “One Year of Love”. This would be one of the last times Freddie would sing a Queen song completely in falsetto.

I hear this song through the lens of Freddie, his illness and the perspective it gave him. So if it has an updated take on the Supremes sound, I say what a guy & his friend John that paired the two realities of life together in a fun tune when it isn't always.

Unfortunately, this is one of the very few songs by Queen that I've just never really felt😮 More often than not, I end up skipping over it whenever I listen to A Kind Of Magic🤷‍♂️ It's the only weak track on the album IMO. I think they could've replaced it with "A Dozen Red Roses For My Darling/New York, New York".
But, that being said. *_AWESOME_* reaction Hap👍 Very informative🤔 But I could totally see/hear George Michael singing this, too! And I probably would've enjoyed it more as part of his catalog.

I'm a QUEENIE through and through, but this one is disappointing. Freddie's voice is way too high that it hurts my ears 😢 I think it would be better if he sung it in his normal voice. RIP FREDDIE MERCURY 1946-1991 DIED 11/24/1991 🎤🎹🎵🎸🥁🎸❣️❤️
