  • Learn an art as old as time but simple enough for anyone to master. Tried and proven methods of both wet and dry gold panning are carefully described and illustrated in the Arizona desert by veteran prospector Virgil Hutton. He used gold recovery methods and equipment presented by Roy Lagal in his book. Gold Panning is Easy.

I know where the black sand lies . ON occasion I'v seen this sand It is amazing the things a person learns after they have seen something and walked away unknowing. I took the step this year and hope to try my new pan soon. I suspect you have oversimplified. Lucky guy. Encouraging.

I just recently ordered and received the Garretts deluxe panning kit and all I can say is wow.. it's hard to find such great quality at a low price these days... the pans are extremely durable... love it.. now if I can only find a decent shovel and rock hammer... lol

This is the best demonstration of dry-pan panning I've seen. Thank you for
your presentation. FYI, Mr. Garrett, I still have and use my Garrett Freedom 1
with an 8-inch loop, purchased in 1979. I wouldn't use it for gold-shooting but
it is still excellent as a coin-shooter.

Nice dry panning demo starting at 6:50 into the video. Good gold from the outwash of this tertiary channel.

These pans are the best. This guy is like Yo Yo Ma on the cello though. He makes it look so easy. I've been panning over 30 years and I don't hold a candle to Virgil.

I realize you have much experience and, I just bought my Garret Pan Kit.
I am just wondering, when you classified the larger rocks, it seemed that you didn't even look at them to see if there were any larger nuggets. As well, when you were panning, both dry & wet, it seemed that you were quite rough with the material
Your results speak for themselves but, being inexperienced I kept thinking about how much gold must be flying out of the pan while you were shaking it and shoving off the top layers

Looks great but in real life things are different especially in Bulgaria. For 6 grams of gold one of my friends go 30 times and waste more money for petrol than the value of the gold that he collect :D

Man I need to get out of Missouri. This made me more mad than anything. All I can find are fines. Real fine. Course I don't have a reasonable pan either.

yeah, it's better here in idaho because instead of making several trips and having THAT as your main source of money, you hike everywhere up to the location, and you have a job during the week.

Dry panning is okay when you have no other option, but in most spots gold is stuck in the clay, so would've been throw out with everything trapped in the classifier!
