Thank you Jeff & Slim, I had one hard time getting the flower gold but thanks to you I am getting better at gathering it all up and here in Death Valley Ca, it is all over the yard so I don't even have to leave home to pan for gold for some time .

I set out to learn panning on my own, I've been through around 100 pans. The land has minimal gold though, or at least the places I've checked, I've yet to find anything really, but I'm not giving up, I have 6 acres of riverfront southwest Virginia property. And it's relaxing, thanks Jeff, I like this method, helps me pan quicker.

Nice video as usual. I just wanted to share with people to make sure that your new plastic gold pan is properly conditioned before trying to find the gold. I see a lot of people using new plastic pans that are still coated with that release agent used to get it out of the mold. Looking forward to seeing the dry panning video, lots of dirt and little water here in southern Arizona.

I've been watching all your great videos for a while. I live in Michigan and the only gold in the lower peninsula is glacial drift. I found a gpaa park and thanks to your videos I found GOLD! Not much but that's not what it's about for me. Could not have done it without you sir, so thank you so much! I can get dirts on ebay but finding it in its "natural habitat ",lol, is so much better. now I'm a real prospector. Don't tell slim though, he might try n take it 😜

3 days ago was my first experience panning ever! I have an odd story to my gold adventure that just began. I bought 4 ounces of gold coins recently. That set me back about $8k. After looking at those beautiful coins I decided to see if I could find 1oz of gold on my own. I would also like to find silver but I will worry about that later. I also bought 250oz of silver. I have been worried about the dollar losing value so I somewhat protected now. Anyway, I have watched a whole bunch of your videos and love watching! I have a creek that runs through my land and I have decided to start my adventure there. I am not sure if gold has been found in this creek or not but it does run into another creek that does have gold. I live in western North Carolina so I know that this is a decent gold finding state. The first in flight and the first in gold panning! Thanks for the videos!

Hi Jeff I asked a question not long ago. you advised me to use quick dry. anyway I used biodegradable washing up liquid to break the surface tension of water. before adding the dish soap looking at the water a lot of shinny gold colored material was floating at the top and after adding the soap the water was clear as everything had sank. we are finding flour gold but to be honest the whole pan is shinny as in a lot of material left behind is very very shinny silver and gold color. Once we have stratified the material to very fine sands and not much in the pan. almost all of the material is shinning silver and gold. I think a lot of the stuff could be silver but all of this material we are seeing is tiny microscopic tiny. Some small chucks about 1mm look to be gold but once finger crushing turns out to be pyrite. How small can pyrite go. Will it go as small as flour gold.?
    Thanks.

Another great video! Question, I tried that tapping technique with a bit of black sand I have been saving and discovered 3 tiny specs of flour gold I had missed before. While trying to remove the last spec the water washed over the tiny spec and it floated on top of the water over the black sand to the center of the pan! I thought it must not be gold and rechecked it with the 10X loop but found it was indeed gold. Will adding a bit of dishwashing soap prevent this and if so how much? Thank much

Yo Jeff great video brother ! My old man was into dry panning for gold out here in southern nevada & got a couple of hundred buck's out of it & was just happy doing something outdoors & profitable .
My question is, how do we go about getting kid's ( inner city & country ) interested in not only this but outdoor living skills, camping, hiking, off the grid homesteading ? Keep up the good work & God bless you & yours !

    • @Askjeffwilliams
      @Askjeffwilliams  9 років тому +4

kevin bell Thanks Kevin, good question. We like making vids on it then having meet and greets so they can get hands on experience with it. We have taken private families out with there children and they just love it as soon as the see that Gold in the Pan and I know they will go on to be future miners. So I think exposure to it first then see if they have an interest then keep it fun . They will want to do it more if it is fun. Then give them the skills and tools they need to get out there and find Gold, once they do and the fever sets in , then they think of nothing else.

    Good morning jeff! :-)
I'm new to this but I have been doing tons of research on every aspect of gold itself!
I used a few drops of gun oil to break the surface tension of the water because I didn't have and jet dry.
when I'm panning the material I keep seeing what looks like gold on the top. I shake the hell outta of it and some do fall mid way before bottom. when I start to pan I see alot of the flakes wash off into the water. I figured it was just pyrite so I didn't give it a second thought.
I have worked 500 pounds of dirt to reveal nothing.
So I stopped and took a step back to take a look at what and how I'm doing it, I put a magnet to the flakes but they don't stick.
Is it because I'm using gun oil. plus I'm in a horrible state called New York.
I see guys out west pulling in a few flakes of flower gold and complaining it's not enough. well take it from a guy who has found nothing, I'd love to see a flake of gold in my pan!!
I'm just having a real hard time trying to figure out if I do have gold in my pan?
any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated sir!
Thank you so much for this awesome channel!! :-)

Second or third video of yours I have run across. They say it ain't rocket science. Ha! I have yet to find that first fleckle but I'm still working on it. Slowly working my way to the good places in NE Alabama where the original gold rush happened before it all moved west. I'm lucky. It's only 20 miles from here. By the time I get there, thanks to your instruction mebbe I also will be a gold man!

The Alabama gold rush was the third! The first significant gold rush in the United States was in Cabarrus County, North Carolina (east of Charlotte), in 1799 at today's Reed's Gold Mine. Thirty years later, in 1829, the Georgia Gold Rush in the southern Appalachians occurred that later spurred on the Alabama rush in the 1840s.

    Hi Jeff! :)
Never mind Norway!....i'm from Australia and just watched your panning technique/s.
I'm so much a Noob to this, but after having watched your video, i pan very much the same way! lol. Yup, got a couple of nice flakes!!! (i'm happy!)....
Now...although these little pieces were like YELLOW!! they are like LEAD!...
Now....tweezers would'nt pick 'em up (too small?), just backing off the water and dabbing my finger on it i managed to pick it up :)
Then i used the tweezer to pick it of my finger and tranfer it to my glass vial.
...now, here is a thought....glass vials VS Plastik!
What would happen if i accidently dropped my glass vial???? Ohhhhh Noooooooo! haha....
i reckon plastik vial maybe better option!
    Cheers Mate!

is it possible i can seprate gravel into small pieces with classifier, collect a bucket than add water than shake it well, and get rid of the top. would i get the gold in the bottom? i live in las vegas there is a flash flood dry river, i took samples with that pan, but the gold particles where super fine, i had to use magnifier. So to pan one after another wouldn't it me much better to fill up a bucket and shake it and get the concentrate from bottom?

Very Cool Jeff,I live in Los Angeles and try to get out there every other weekend. for the day. My claim is very close to the old Coolgardie camp. I have a couple of large washes running through it with a large amounts of smooth iron rocks. Plenty of black sand and granite and quartz. I am close to several club mines also and The Kinney mine is about 1 mile from me. I use a Keene Puffer drywasher. I can throw more dirt that that thing can handle s I also use a Home made leaf blower model, You gotta see this thing ! Made it out of a couple of extra large plastic tool boxes. It really works! The roads are easy and 2wd will get you there no problem. You can get your vehicles right next to where you actually dig, I have all the documents from the County recorder and the BLM to prove its my claim for those pesky claim jumpers. LOL

Jeff thanks for the videos. I'm from southern Utah and was wondering if you have ever panned for gold at gold springs on the Utah Nevada border? If so is was it worth while? Or is there a better place in southern Utah you would recommend?

Nice video. I've been panning for more than half my life and always like to see different techniques.
The guy from Norway should be able to pick up some pointers, especially if the 40 minute video was doing just one pan.

Hello Jeff. I have a question about the Garrett Gold Trap vs. Super Sluice pans. From what I can see the Super Sluice has deeper riffles. I ordered the Gold Trap by accident and was wondering if I should return it for the Super Sluice? BTW I really enjoyed your stream model video. Though I really enjoy your drift mine videos wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to drill and blast down to the red clay bearing gravel with an open pit mine?

we love the Super Sluice so would get that one and an open pit is harder to hide huh

Hey Jeff, I've been looking for the video you made that demonstrates how you setup your panning station in the desert. It seems really efficient and I like the idea of reusing the water. Could you please post that link? Thanks.

Jeff, how do I find an area to legally pan for gold. It seems all the gold bearing areas in SoCal are claimed up. I read in all the books on gold mining and gold bearing areas in my area but it's all claimed up I'm told. Is there any way to prospect without trespassing on someone else's claim? Thanks

Are there places that would process it for me or If I dry it can I process it myself? I tried the jet dry but its so fine almost like glitter that its near impossible.

Hey Jeff I have a question of treating a gold pan. I just received my super sluice gold pan 15" and I don't know how to go about treating it. Could you give some instructions on ways to treat a pan? Thanks!
