  • In this video we sample from a gully system typical of conditions in Queensland goldfields during the 'dry'. A few sample pans reveal some nice 'colour' recovered using this historic method of gold recovery without water. Great vidieo. I dry pan in the Arizona desert alot. One tool that i use is a drinking straw. After you bring it down to the last of the heavies, use the straw to GENTLY blow the cons across the pan. This will reveal the gold in place.

This is a very interesting and informative video Warren, I was happy to see you found some gold considering the hard work you put in. The photo of the old timer standing up winnowing the dust out was a treat to see as was the kangaroo passing by on the bank lol. Take care my friend, and enjoy your good weather, snow is forecast here ugh. Take care my friends, good luck and happy fossicking Mary-Ellen UK

Enjoyed the video as I'm here to brush up on my dry panning techniques. I've read that miners of yesteryear would sometimes "cook the dirt" on a large piece of sheet metal for quicker drying.

looks like hard wo0rk at my age. I did a lot of panning when I was a young fella, but it is surprising how many places are now out of bounds for prospectors now, National parks and subdivisions into acreages have stopped a lot of fun.

Far as I know you can pan on any national park no problem. At least here in the US. Just don't claim jump...

Interesting video. Not much chance of me ever trying that as I live in Ireland, it would never be dry enough 🤣 at least plenty of water for wet panning

Nothing like “live action”, a Roo bounding by at the top of the hill, flying by lickity split. Dry washing is tough without contrasting with H2o. Are you using a metal detector/pin pointer in your prospecting to find specimens so NUGS don’t get lost when you toss the rocks after classifying.
