Eric... Just finished watching the video to the very end... 3 Recommendations for your crevicing ops: 1). Get a smaller 1 1/4 inch diameter "sucker tube" to use to vacu-suck out ALL the material from the VERY bottom of nice cracks like this. Spoons and crevice tools only can get SO much. They are real SLOW too. :( I made 4 different PVC nozzles.....that simply thread in....from 4 inches long and 1 inch diameter for max material/bigger material/high volume....to a 12 inch long 1/2 inch diameter nozzle. These REALLY allow me to clean the crevices 100% and hit crevices others have done and left the last good 10%. 2). Take 2 smaller 2 or 2 1/2 gallon pails with you. Allows me to bring up water from the river to fill the crevice to then vacu-suck it out. :) 3). Lastly, IF I still can't get my 12 inch x 1/2 inch tube to the very bottom.....I find most crevices drain in one direction downhill. I build a containment dam with rocks at the bottom........line with sand/gravel/clay.....then pour, flush, wash everything....over and over.....buckets of fresh water to wash all the material/gold down to my containment dam and out the crevice. Then I either scoop it all up, pan it. Or, I sucker it up with my large 4 inch x 1 inch nozzle and poop it into a gold pan or a bucket to pan. This technique has got me a LOT of extra gold of the last 20 years... :) Randy C0017A

Nice chunky stuff, the crack spoon joke is priceless, that's an incredible claim ,it would be interesting to see what is down a few feet under the bigger sandy areas ,the cracks hidden down there just might be loaded up,you got yourself a great place beautiful
😆 thanks Brandon. Yes there's so many more places to look and so little time to do it. I'll sample all of these places over time. It will be quite interesting to see what those deeper shore cracks are hiding, they will take a LOT longer to dig but I think it will be worth it. I'm really hoping I can find some bigger nuggets with the metal detector, seems like an easier way to find where the nuggets are. Though haven't had much luck with that method in the past.
That’s a helluva claim you got there. I see a good day running a couple of grams on average. Maybe more. The lead rods look like plumbers solder, perhaps used as weights for fishing the river. I’ve used it since it snags less and you can fish close to the bottom in current, like for steelhead with salmon roe bait.
Thanks. Interesting idea on the lead rods. Another viewer that has done dredging for years suggested they are rods from inside an old car battery. I looked it up and it seems to check out for what they look like.

I own 9 detectors and I hunt hunt about 20 hours a week. I live abroad, but I am from Oregon. I will be prospecting in Oregon in 2 weeks. The Gold Monster is great is inexpensive, easy to operate, fantastic for finding sub gram gold and the there is no big learning curve.
It’s very important to ground balance your machine…once you tune your ear into the zip zip wabupop sound for non ferrous targets, then you will do just fine. You might need to ground balance often, but it will pay for itself within time.
Awesome crevice you found and very good video. I look for gold as well in a state park here in N California and I watch a lot of videos. Just wonder why so many guys want to swirl their pans to reveal the gold. Heck with a Garrett Super Sluice pan tilt it upright and let the water action remove most of the black sand. The gold remains deep in the ridges and much easier to reveal when you fan it back. The worst part of these videos is all the swirling around removing small amounts of black sand to reveal the gold.
That's a good point. If I'm going for quantity of gold I usually use the riffles much more aggressively. Right now I'm doing more careful testing to see where the fine gold and the chunky gold can be found on my claim. When I use the riffles more aggressively I lose some of the smaller flakes and specs.
Around 2:20-2:35 , that tight 90° corner with the large boulders packed in it on the right of the vid, with solid bedrock clearly protruding out past that corner, is a prime spot to catch gold (evidenced by the boulder drop) when the river is high.
Interesting observation, I see what you're talking about. I'll have to go back and check that spot out, possibly make another video doing so. Thanks for the input!
@wildernesseric your very welcome... And when you do make another video, I'll watch it. Congrats on your claim, it has many features that scream great gold !!
Yeah, travel to and from eats in to my time each day so I only have a few hours. I'll have to camp out on the claim sometime this summer and spend some real time on the river. Thanks for watching!
Yes I did pan out a little moss in the next video while I was metal detecting ua-cam.com/video/QADW0P4G6kk/v-deo.html I panned just a little bit and it did have a decent amount of fine gold in it.
Hi Mate, Now that was a great crack you need to make up a yabbi pump out of some PVC pipe, wash the crack to a low point then suck it up. We use them in Australia all the time as they save time and can get all off the bottom because thats where the fine stuff is. Good luck with your claim.
Yes you are right about that. That's where my best nugget tried to hide when I attempted to scrape it off the bottom of the crack. I need to look into finding some kind of brush to help clean the sides.
Great work. Well deserved excellent find. Thanks for mentioning what detector you are using. Can you please mention what you like about the 6000 and any challenges it gives you over any other detectors you have used
Thanks! I haven't tried the Whites 6000 yet. Mainly just have used the MXT as it is the one I bought years ago. I'm gonna be trying a Gold Bug II metal detector sometime soon.
Great job and a big congratulations on getting your own claim! Quick question, I don’t know if a claim is a lease or if you actually own the land if it’s called a claim? Any info is appreciated because I’ve always wondered what buying a claim means. Thanks!
That's a good question. You can stake a claim on federal land as long as there is not already a claim there. When you stake a claim you put up a discovery stake, mark the corners of the area you are claiming and then submit a notice of location form to the BLM. You have to submit yearly payment to the BLM for each 20 acres to keep your claim. When you own the claim you have sole rights to the minerals on it such as gold or platinum but you do not own the land and other people are allowed to use it for other things but not for any kind of prospecting. A patented gold claim is an older way they used to do things, those claims allow ownership of the actual claim land, I don't think they do those much anymore or at all. Hope that helps.
@@wildernesseric I really appreciate that very well explained answer Eric! You just answered a lot with that! Wishing you much success in upcoming adventures!
looking prosperous, so glad for you, got a question, you know how curiosity kills a cat. If you dont mind without giving out info that you dont want out. how does a clam layout in area does most clame include both banks of river or just one side or to waters edge? dont give any spicifics on your clam.. i was wondering because i never looked for gold, i dont think there are any claims avalable in North Carolina. Gold was a big deal here back before the California rush. i really glad i found your chanel, it helps a 77 year old to pass time in dreaming. right beside you. So go get us a double whopper nuget. Pray Gods keeps you right in thee very spot that he put gold. THANKS
There are definelty claims here in NC just have to know what 3 letter agencies to talk to. Gold is still a big deal here, we were the official gold rush state and still have tons of gold from Concord up to the SW, W and NW
Thanks for watching and commenting Floyd! Glad you found my channel too and yes I could use prayers to lead me to the gold :) I am certainly hoping for a large nugget at some point. As far as layout it just depends on what you want to claim and how much acreage you want to pay the fees for to keep your claim. I did a basic along the river claim which includes 300ft on either side for a total of 60 acres which comes out to about 3/4 mile of river.
Great vid......I'm betting the finer stuff has worked down deep into those cracks. Maybe a few ways to flush it out. But you've got more important fertile ground there too.
Thanks. Much of the cracks I've worked I was able to get all the way to bedrock and pull out everything so I don't think the fines are lower. I'm gonna do some poking around in different types of areas on the bedrock and see if I can get to the bottom of this mystery... pun intended.
Thanks, yes I plan to send in some samples to see what I've got here in the bedrock. I've found bedrock stuff with pyrite cubes in it nearby while river sniping.
Dang, looks like some endless good looking bedrock there! 👍... and congrats on the new claim and its first nug.. :) are you in Canada? We are river deprived down here in San Diego Cali... haha we have to Drywash... and Its Not quite the Same 😉 Great Video..
@@wildernesseric we did get some trash dirt washed away in the deserts this year, which has made for way better detecting. 👍 .. and at one of our local mtn claims, which still has water trickling through it. people have been panning or using recirculating sluices.. and this is normally a all year Drywash claim.. i wish i lived closer that kind of river a real river... haha looking forward to your upcoming videos! 👍
I'm not familiar with that area, but what I would recommend is for you to join a local gold mining club. Generally you can find a gold mining enthusiasts group or club just about anywhere locally. They should be able to tell you about the gold in the area and take you to places where you can find some.
Where are you working at? It looks like that’s where the rain comes from. And feeds into the river and that’s how you’re getting. A lot of go to Attica might be an old tributary .. looks like the gold comes through. They’re feeding into the river where you working at do you see that Moss gold in that it will hold gold😊
There are lots of little tributaries and an ancient river bench above where I'm working that drops down onto the bedrock. Yes there is a ton of fine gold in the moss and black sand, it makes my metal detector go crazy.
Hi Vance, the gold I found that day was probably worth around $100 in nugget /gold value. This was my first day actually working the claim and I found this gold in the first spot I looked which is a really good sign. That's twice now I've found gold on this claim in the first spot I looked so that tells me this is a pretty rich claim and I should be able to find even richer more concentrated areas on the claim.
I’m just wondering if it would be worth it to buy a claim the only way it will be worth it to me as if I made 10 times more than what I paid for the claim so let me know
Interesting thought. One viewer who has dredged for 30 years suggested that the lead rods are from old car batteries. I looked it up and that seems to check out as the most likely explanation.
@wildernesseric I doubt the round lead is from car batteries, the lead is in sheets inside the battery infused in some type of paper like material. Definitely not from old car batteries, but I could be wrong!
@@davidrussell8795 that's what I thought too but found in Google that the really old batteries had a lattice like structure and the separators were shaped like rods. Probably as the battery is pulverized by the river the little rod shaped pieces break off here and there as the lead lattice tumbles down the river.
Hi , enjoyed the vid. Been watching the gold vids for awhile now , and soon ready to purchase some pans , etc. , and want to make a high banker . My question is , and not to be critical , but why not use a metal detector , big and small , on the crevices ? A great looking claim you have , there's nothing close to what you have , here in Ontario . Your wood boxes look great too .
Hi, that's a good question, now that I know there are for sure some nuggets there the metal detector is next! Gonna make a metal detecting video this week.
Those "lead rods" look like pieces of solder wire. Perhaps someone soldered copper pipes upstream? When one gets to the "nub" of a solder wire it is most often tossed. Maybe moonshiners have been on the river?
Can you let me know if it’s worth it what you paid and if you find at least 10 times worth the goal of what you paid for the claim I wanna know if it’s worth it
It all depends on how much time you put in. I've already found enough to pay for my claim fees and two wetsuits (winter and summer one) plus paid for my gas to and from. If you have a good claim and spend enough time you could easily make 10 x what you pay for the claim ESPECIALLY if you had a dredge or something to process stuff faster. I'm just working by hand. I'm not gonna get rich doing it but it's a fun hobby.
I believe you are correct that there is a fault in this area. I'm gonna do some poking around on the shore some more when it gets to cold to river snipe and see if I can find a good vein.

Eric... Love your videos... Very informative. :) Can you share where you live? Saw ALL that covered firewood. What river is your claim on?? I normally hit the Bear and NF American when I go out to help my 89 year old mother and twin sister in Grass Valley, CA. Heavy Pans!! Randy C0017A :)
That reminds me of Dan hurt's picketing claim on the Frazier. It looks like a great time man. Congratulations on your claim.🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you. Yes I agree, pickers everywhere just like my claim. @Danhurd has an awesome UA-cam channel with some great content, I really enjoy watching it!
His last name he claims is Dan HURD,not hurt!
Just subscribed and sent a share off. Thats a beauty of a claim!
Awesome, thank you!
Nice claim…you need a Gold Monster! Best of luck!
Thanks, I've heard that's a good detector, haven't tried that one myself though. You have much experience with it?
I own 9 detectors and I hunt hunt about 20 hours a week. I live abroad, but I am from Oregon. I will be prospecting in Oregon in 2 weeks. The Gold Monster is great is inexpensive, easy to operate, fantastic for finding sub gram gold and the there is no big learning curve.
@@DeadliestFind wow, sounds awesome. How does it do with hot rocks and mineralized soil?
It’s very important to ground balance your machine…once you tune your ear into the zip zip wabupop sound for non ferrous targets, then you will do just fine. You might need to ground balance often, but it will pay for itself within time.
@@DeadliestFind any idea how it would compare to something like the Gold Bug II?
@wildernesseric your very welcome...
And when you do make another video, I'll watch it.
Congrats on your claim, it has many features that scream great gold !!
I enjoyed your video, Bud.
Thanks 👍
Where is your claim???
So beautiful ❗❗❗
Thank you! Keeping the location secret for now.
That's some nice Shiny. Hard to tell how much you could get on a nice day. Awesome claim ! JJ
Yeah, travel to and from eats in to my time each day so I only have a few hours. I'll have to camp out on the claim sometime this summer and spend some real time on the river. Thanks for watching!
@@wildernesseric That would make for some great footage! Good luck. Cheers JJ
New sub here from N.C great video and nice gold are u in Ca?
Thank you! PNW keeping it broad for now.
Please you are intelligent,I wish you long life and continue teaching us,.
Eric where are you located, awesome looking claim. I'm just out of Detroit Michigan. Great video keep up the good work looking forward to the next one
Thanks, keeping that secret for now.
Wondering if u ever check the moss, I think it would be a good thing to hold the gold
Yes I did pan out a little moss in the next video while I was metal detecting ua-cam.com/video/QADW0P4G6kk/v-deo.html I panned just a little bit and it did have a decent amount of fine gold in it.
Subscribed and looking forward to watching more from there 👍❤️💛💚
Thank you! 👍
Nice AU , fly fishing we use lead wire to get flies down I swift water they snag n come off sometime
Nothing like some quality bedrock crack!
Quality time with some quality crack.
Hi Mate,
Now that was a great crack
you need to make up a yabbi pump out of
some PVC pipe, wash the crack to a low point
then suck it up.
We use them in Australia all the time as they
save time and can get all off the bottom because thats
where the fine stuff is.
Good luck with your claim.
Thanks for the tip. Others have suggested the same, I'm definitely gonna give that a try.
Make sure that you're cleaning off the walls of those cracks too!
gold loves to be snug against them, best of luck
Yes you are right about that. That's where my best nugget tried to hide when I attempted to scrape it off the bottom of the crack. I need to look into finding some kind of brush to help clean the sides.
A cheap endoscope that plugs into your cell phone for 15.00- 20.00 might be worth it.
@@dananorth895 haha, I actually bought one for working on cars, hadn't thought about using it for gold hunting.
Gold Monster 1000
Awesome finds man! New sub. Good luck out there and heavy pans!
Thanks man, just subbed back. Good luck to you as well.
Got my sub with ur "crack" spoon bit lol. Real gold miners love dirty cracks
😆 awesome, thanks for the sub! I found something pretty dirty in one of the cracks in my last video.
Nicely done.... Maybe you can get a "yabby pump" to suck out the cracks
Yes I should. Is there one you would recommend?
@@wildernesseric I made my own out of poly pipe, easy to do and there are plenty of UA-cam videos on it
Great job and a big congratulations on getting your own claim!
@@northeastexpanse No problem, thanks.

@@arte9855 Yep
looking prosperous, so glad for you, got a question, you know how curiosity kills a cat.
Take some of the grey rock with quartz stringers in it,and have it assayed or ground up to see what gold is in it!
Thanks, I'm in the US. Are the washes there not filled with water this year?
@@wildernesseric we did get some trash dirt washed away in the deserts this year, which has made for way better detecting. 👍 .. and at one of our local mtn claims, which still has water trickling through it. people have been panning or using recirculating sluices.. and this is normally a all year Drywash claim.. i wish i lived closer that kind of river a real river... haha looking forward to your upcoming videos! 👍
Where should I look for gold I have tried and found a peace of flower gold and I live in Illinois
I'm not familiar with that area, but what I would recommend is for you to join a local gold mining club. Generally you can find a gold mining enthusiasts group or club just about anywhere locally. They should be able to tell you about the gold in the area and take you to places where you can find some.
@@wildernesseric thanks
Amazing very good, good luck
Thank you.
Hello, this is my friend, awesome 👍
At what weight does a piece of gold become a nugget?
your second pan had lots of fine gold...surely you saw and kept those cons!?
Awesome job man. congrats on getting the claim. New subscriber here! Keep up the awesome videos.
Thanks for the sub! More will definitely come as the adventure continues.
Just subscribed to your channel as well.
Happy New Year
You too!!
A wet/dry shop vac would be nice
Where are you working at? It looks like that’s where the rain comes from. And feeds into the river and that’s how you’re getting. A lot of go to Attica might be an old tributary .. looks like the gold comes through. They’re feeding into the river where you working at do you see that Moss gold in that it will hold gold😊
There are lots of little tributaries and an ancient river bench above where I'm working that drops down onto the bedrock. Yes there is a ton of fine gold in the moss and black sand, it makes my metal detector go crazy.
How much is the gold worth that you found today? Vance
Hi Vance, the gold I found that day was probably worth around $100 in nugget /gold value. This was my first day actually working the claim and I found this gold in the first spot I looked which is a really good sign. That's twice now I've found gold on this claim in the first spot I looked so that tells me this is a pretty rich claim and I should be able to find even richer more concentrated areas on the claim.
no yabby pump?
Just Found Your Video, Lots of Bedrock! What State are you in?
Yes time of bedrock to explore. Keeping the local secret for now.
Is that the Frazier
Excelente video.. saludos desde Argentina .. SEÑOR ORO
Thanks!
I’m just wondering if it would be worth it to buy a claim the only way it will be worth it to me as if I made 10 times more than what I paid for the claim so let me know
Looks like the Fraiser. Dan Hurd's favorite river.
Just as rich.
Lots of fine gold as well
Yes
That lead rid could be some old pencil lead! Or some natural lead formation!
Where is this located?
Look up underneath the green moss on the rocks and you may find gold i have seen it under it
Yes, I have found quite a bit of gold in the moss in this area but nothing chunky.
You need a Shop Vacuum with Crevas tool
Good job
Those "lead rods" look like pieces of solder wire. Perhaps someone soldered copper pipes upstream? When one gets to the "nub" of a solder wire it is most often tossed. Maybe moonshiners have been on the river?
Yeah that sounds like a plausible explanation.
That is so beautiful thank you xoxo
You are so welcome, thanks for watching!
Very nice 👍👌❤️💛💚
Thanks!
Are you in Canada?
I'm in the USA.
@@wildernesseric Are you in Northern Calif. Yuba River or American river?
@@jimbennett2795 for now I don't want to narrow my location in case I start pulling out monster nuggets 😆 I just like to say that I'm in the PNW.
Right on
The area you are working has a peculiar flat spot, which is besides a rocky outcrop.
This could be on a fault .
I believe you are correct that there is a fault in this area. I'm gonna do some poking around on the shore some more when it gets to cold to river snipe and see if I can find a good vein.
Love your video really encouraging amigo
Thank you!
