@@grisoli521 It is not worth, if you cant record on 16bit without clipping it, you should learn better, as even if 32 bit prevents the loss of info when the input is too loud, IT DAMAGES THE MIC. So no, never ever rely on 32 bit for that.
@@davide.schiaffino 32 bit is for insurance. If you're shooting a scene and your actor decides to make an unplanned decision by doing something like shouting at the other actor or to themselves and it results in a wonderful moment that works perfectly for your movie, you want to make sure that you capture it then. Instead of being like oh by the way we need to do that take again because the audio was clipped. They may not be able to get that emotional moment again in the same exact way. I laughed out loud at 5:19 and had to check out if the website actually said that and it does! For an otherwise professional looking website that whole paragraph is so random 😂
I've never clicked this fast. I love you David! I admire you greatly, and I'm glad to have discovered and followed your channel when I did. Good luck Hollywooding and YouTubing! My regards to Lotta as well :)
You may not be a "professional UA-camr," but your insight and advice for making our own films is absolutely incredible, professional or not. As a student currently, I find your videos to be just as valuable as any class I take on campus (well, online campus for now, I suppose). Thank you for continuing to help filmmakers out with these videos!
You have less than a million subscribers and that is insane. The amount of free information and knowledge we get on your channel is above average Id say. Thanks for your hard work and love for film!!!
I prefer your other videos honestly. Talking frankly about the creative process, problem solving and all it’s frustrations. It’s therapeutic, and genuinely fascinating. It can even be educational.
These look like great tools! I'm gonna for sure get some of these for my films. Easy and nice to use. Love that. Thank you for making videos like this and staying in touch with your UA-cam community
I'm always down for some tools videos, but I've love the other content you create. Problem solving and the process of making a film from start to finish are of great value to me as a filmmaker. Thank you for all that you do.
The first 20 seconds are so relatable even though we are clearly playing in different sandboxes. You can map out why certain things are the way they are here by observing viewer behavior on various channels over time. This also changed my perspective about some popular criticisms of movies and studios. Your test screening videos is still one of my favorites.
I really do agree with you on the "tools aren't important" my friend and I just shot an effect for our short like 20 minutes ago using fishing line and chop sticks as puppeteering tools and we love how it looks! I just love trying new things out because the simple little tricks you learn never become outdated.
I'm not here for just the tools videos, I like all of your tips and guidance. As someone new to the game I appreciate very much learning from the pro, so thank you!
Those MC lights are amazing. I grabbed some back before they sold out and have been using them for a while. SUPER AMAZING and I legit, have in some form or another, used them on every project since purchase. Thanks for these videos dude. Always great input.
I love all your videos! Especially the ones about directing and the filmmaking process. It's hard to find quality stuff like that tbh. Keep killin' it.
Thank you for making these videos . As someone pointed out you are living the dream of many professional youtubers. However little you put out it's always inspiring for us.
Your honesty about filmmaking and generosity toward aspiring filmmakers is truly inspiring. You deserve all your successes, and I wish you luck with your Ferrari... :)
hilarious video and thanks so much for editing this together and showcasing these options. I'm showing your videos to alot of my friends, your content is extremely helpful for us indie peoples :]
Changing focus in post IS actually possible. Ten years ago, they (not Black Magic) announced they were working on such a camera, and a couple years back I saw a demonstration of this. This new camera would also enable you to change the f.stop in post and do focus pulling and all that. The way it worked (very simplified) was to record where each particle of light came from, and thus it sort of created a 3D space in which one could do the with focus as they pleased (They couldn't rearrange the position of the camera, though, maybe in the more futurerer future) Another really awesome thing about this, was that since it recorded the "origins" of the particles, this meant that you were able to crop in 3D space as well, in other words; you wouldn't need a greenscreen, as you could simply remove all the particle from behind the actors. You could record a crowd of people, and if say two of those people were standing two yards closer to the camera than everybody else, you could "key" out everybody and leave only those two people visible, and then change the background. This is the future,,, and also very scary if you ask me. Fixing out-of-focus recordings and "keying" out people perfectly are great advantages to this, but I personally think it puts too much "creative" control onto the post-production process.
I really love that I've discovered your channel. It's such an inspiration. Every time a notification from here pops up I feel that I have to watch the video immediatly, because it will make my day better. Greetings from Brazil!
Your sense of humor is amazing. XD I hope you get that Ferrari. I just want to say that I’ve been following your filmmaking journey since Lights Out, and you’re a huge source of inspiration for me. Thanks for all that you do!
Thank you for creating these videos! It’s a breath of fresh air to see what filmmakers like you and your wife can create when you don’t have a giant budget or crew. A lot of people on UA-cam talk about making films but you two actually do it! That being said, I think the thing I struggle with most is producing. I see filmmakers share their knowledge on writing and directing, but I almost never see or hear anything about producing. More specifically, what a producer does and what resources I can use to help my films. What are some ways you or other filmmakers have financed productions? What do you do once you have secured funding? These questions probably don’t have simple answers but they’re what I mainly struggle with. Anyway, thanks again for sharing your films and your insights on filmmaking, I look forward to whatever you both make next!
I just wait almost everyday to see something from your channel specifically from your .. ( trust me you don’t know how much I like you ) and as always your channel helps me in every possible way to be a filmmaker
I love videos like this cause when you talk about technology and why these advancements/new stuff is cool to you, I learn so much. I'm not familiar at all with filmmaker tools but I've been learning so much from creators talking about what is exciting to them cause when it excites you you explain it in a way that a layperson can understand cause you wanna share what's so cool about it. Do I understand a thing about the bits in audio recording? Nah. But now I understand how its possible to record loud voices and maintain the quality of the voice without shrieking noises from the speaker! and Storyboarder looks so cool even though I can't draw lol
You are right, i love to see your videos on how to achieve X things without that many resources, but having an understanding what the high end tools and their alternatives do helps me see what either i'm missing and what not, to know what to aim for.
Interesting Tools Indeed those lights look brilliant I might have to get some when I save up pretty versatile Thanks for sharing much appreciated Very helpful tools it seems
For what it's worth, I'm glad you're not a professional UA-camr because your videos on filmmaking have fantastic insights that are very rare to find. I hope you keep making them! But I gotta say your gear video was also super helpful - discovered the Blackmagic Pocket 4K based on your recommendation, and wow am I glad I bought it.

Amazing upload as usual! Informative and friggin funny as hell! 😁 I'm using Storyboarder for narrative AND for commercial work for some time now if I don't have the budget or the time to hire a storyboard artist. Personally, I mainly use it with the *shot generator*. Some inputs are still a bit finnicky but it's really getting better and better. Oh and the VR possibilities.. oooomph! In 2019 I managed to pre-produce, shoot, edit and post-produce an 8min shortfilm for a client efficiently with Storyboarder by putting out an 11-page, approx. 30 shot storyboard that helped IMMENSELY in communication beforehand and on set. It can't replicate a real storyboard artist for sure but that's actually not the goal of the software. In fact it even gives traditional storyboarders new ways of producing this type of content. Definitely a great piece of software so far. Thanks for mentioning it. The tool itself but also the community around it deserve some more attention for sure! Have a nice one!
